Mmmm. Saigon Palace. The broth here is PIPING hot, which is extremely important when it comes to Pho. The service (my favorite is the dude with the pony tail) is always fast and efficient and the Vietnamese noodle soup is just downright delicious. You receive an ample amount of sprouts, basil, jalapeno and limes. The crispy spring rolls go hard AF. I highly recommend the House Noodle Soup (#31) for an amazing treat. I got the grilled beef vermicelli and snarfed it up in short order. I was starving, which helped. But I recently had the same dish from a different restaurant, and comparing the two I can definitely say the one from Saigon Palace was delicious. It tasted very fresh, and although simple, it had a ton of flavor. I hope I get a chance to try some of the other things on their menu. This place is excellent, and one of my favorite dining choices in the neighborhood. I can't say too much about the menu, because I really only order one item, pho. The Pho is excellent. Savory broth, thing noodles, excellent meatballs, and lovely thin slices of beef which are still pink when you first get the soup. I think you're likely going to have to go to 7 corners over in NoVa to find better Pho. The decor is blah, but you're there for the Pho, so you don't really care. Service is attentive and the prices are wonderful (pho and veggie rolls only put you back ~$14). It's worth the drive if you're in the central AA County area, and certainly worth making a regular stop if you live in Edgewater. read more

Usually our favorite Vietnamese restaurant, tonight they were TERRIBLE! Got home to find NO BROTH for two pho orders, and had to return 40 miles round trip to get it. Beef with crispy noodles was so salty it was almost inedible, and caramelized pork was questionable as to whether it was the actual dish or not. All for $60! Wow, just excellent. Very rich flavors with excellent service. What made it such an unusual experience was the server suggesting ways to combine items the way one would do in his country. When you walk in, the nice dimmed lights set a comfortable setting for your meal. We were given our seats and menus and soon after we're asked if we were ready. Seemed a little to soon in my opinion so we asked for more time and didn't get another chance too order until 10-15 minutes later, seemed as though we were forgotten. Don't expect the speediest of all service, we had to wait another 15 minutes to get our food. I ordered the Pork rice platter and when I arrived I wasn't disappointed. Chopped pieces of pork lay on a bed of white rice sat beside shredded carrots and sliced tomatoes, it also comes with a side of fish sauce. The meat was cooked very well and was full of a sweet moist flavor. Would definitely come again! The Vietnamese. Milkshakes were just as good too! read more

We went for dinner and there was good and bad. First I will say they're seating you appropriately distanced and wearing masks. Unfortunately the service was another story. The young waitress didn't know anything about the menu and couldn't take our drink order. Apparently only the owner can take deliver drink orders. They didn't have Cabernet and the Pinot noir was literally ice cold. The vodka and club side was served in a shot glass sized glass with disproportionate amounts of liquor to mix and had 2 tiny ice cubes in it for the price of a regular sized drink . This place used to be amazing. The quality has steadily gone downhill for a little over a year. The Pho broth is inconsistent at best. One day it's great and bursting with flavor, the next it is bland and lifeless. The vermicelli used to have big fresh shrimp, and now it has tiny obviously previously frozen shrimp. I'm all for a restaurant saving money in certain places, but the quality of your product should NEVER be an option. Hopefully they get it together. I don't want to have to drive to N. VA for Pho but I am such an addict and connoisseur ( I have had Pho in over 20 states and 2 countries...except Vietnam, so take my Conniseur comment with a grain of salt) that I refuse to eat bad Pho when I have so many options in the D.C. area read more

I live in Edgewater, and the takeout here has been pretty good. Once, they forgot to close the lids on the broth cases and they dumped all over my roommate's car. They've also forgotten to make the veggie broth *vegetarian* so that was a bummer but that also only happened once. I don't recommend anyone actually eat in the establishment. The service is awful. My friend and I went here to sit down. We were only the second table in the restaurant at the time (both tables only had two people), and it took 10 minutes for us to even get water. 10 more minutes for our orders to be taken (after I stared down the guy), and then we didn't get water refills and had to flag down the waiter for the check and a box. Still wasn't crazy busy. Don't really understand what The problem is, but they seem to be lacking good time management skills. Don't eat in unless you have a lot of time to waste. read more

I live in the area and come here often. Yes, they are understaffed, but the food is always good and fresh. If you can stand the wait, you will not be disappointed. I had never had Pho before eating here so I had nothing to compare it to. I've had Pho since eating here and I can tell you that I've had worse. Diners beware! After hearing from a family member about how wonderful this place was, my husband and I had to try it. I cannot comment on the food because I could barely keep it down after seeing a cockroach nearly walk across my foot. Unfortunately, we had already had our meal and were in the process of paying. I told my server about the cockroach and he said in a bit of a mocking tone..."okay I'll go over there and squash it." He wasn't mortified or apologetic. Maybe it's a regular occurrence. Who knows?!? I went today for lunch and nobody at our table ate their food. First let me say, the staff were wonderful. They did not, however ask why we were sending almost all of the food to the trash can. The food was horrible. Shrimp was small, cold, and the presentation didn't help. My soup was bland and the bowl with lid needs to be replaced-it has been used too many times and the glass was cloudy so it just looked dirty. I have just moved to the area and am trying to find my way because everything is new and different. I just wish I hadn't found my way to this place. read more

Edgewater sure has changed since 2001 when I moved there. Back in 2k1 there were only 2 Chinese restaurants anywhere nearby; one a buffet, and one that was just awful (sorry a Chinese restaurant with a sushi bar just won't cut it with me). Now the ethnic diversity is amazing and most of them standouts to boot. Thai, Japanese, El Salvadoran, and Italian places have popped up since then. And not too long ago Vietnamese was added to the list. I've never been to Vietnam - but I do know their cuisine well - some of the best places I've been were in Austin TX where I got introduced to actually good PHO soups. Saigon Palace not only does great PHO but EVERYTHING I've had there has been fabulous. Attention to detail and freshness of ingredients are notable despite what would appear to be low volumes of business. Ever since they opened I was wondering if they'd survive - so far they have. They're kind of a good sleeper; the store is tucked into a small strip mall off Mayo Road between a Papa John's Pizza carry out and ABC Plumbing. Today's visit was for Viet style spring rolls (fresh not fried), and a big bowl of c bit - Special Combination Pho. This is a tricky item for carry out considering the number of components. In my bag were 2 nice large spring rolls (Saigon actually calls these 'Summer Rolls') packed with thinly sliced shrimp, rice noodles, carrot, spring onions, and mint wrapped in rice paper and served with a slightly spicy and chunky peanut dipping sauce. These were also wrapped in plastic to prevent drying out during travel. I adore these things and they were fresh and fantastic. The PHO noodle 'kit' was equally methodical in its presentation and content. Fresh chopped cilantro thinly sliced white onions, chopped green onion tops, sliced jalapenos, mung bean sprouts, 2 nice stalks of very fresh Thai basil, and a healthy portion of rice stick rice noodles. The meats in the combination are slices of well done beef filet, tendon, raw flank, and tripe; all very fresh and perfect and the raw steak is wrapped in plastic for what I'd imagine are cross-contamination reasons. Then the star of the PHO show is of course the broth. A quick sniff and you know it's authentic as you can detect star-anise, charred onions, and beefy oxtail. I've had some bad PHO and the worst of them are always because of lousy beef broth. Saigon includes a nice sauce (sauce with soup? Yup you bet), which is Siracha hot sauce and some hoi sin with a little palm sugar (VERY authentic!). With all these 'pieces' I'd probably charge extra for PHO to go - but they don't! I've had about a dozen PHOs from Saigon Palace and each one was exactly the same in quality and freshness. The only 'gripe' I have is I prefer the more authentic broad rice noodles over the thin rice stick (vermicelli style) noodles. The shops in Austin use those kind of noodles - you might be able to request it - I haven't tried that hmmm. Other dishes of note that I've had here are the Kung Pao Scallops (which is NOTHING like what you would think it is - just try it and see for yourself), and the squid salad. Another interesting thing is their drink menu - many of them made to order. Sô a sa ht gà. Soda, beaten egg & condensed milk. Sô a chanh mui. Soda with preserved lemon. Cà-phê phim. Hot filtered coffee, french style (you DO know Vietnamese food has many french influences right???), and my personal favorite Sinh t b; Avocado milk shake. Yup Avocado milk shake - sounds bizarre but man is it fantastic and great with any really spicy choices you make. Saigon has the standard rice-vermicelli dishes with grilled meat options which are also very good. Check their website for the menu - their website doesn't get a lot of updating unfortunately - they have amazing daily specials that you can only find out about by calling (good luck with understanding anyone there clearly unless you speak Vietnamese) or dropping by. Their website purports to have the daily specials but it looks like their webmaster quit half way through the job. Service is humbly friendly and efficient at Saigon Palace and the prices are quite reasonable ($7.95 for a huge PHO soup, $3.95 for 2 big summer rolls.) All dishes come with a considerable number of interesting sauces or fresh garnishes (signature of good Vietnamese food). I hope they stay afloat especially in today's economy - if you'd asked me if a Vietnamese restaurant would survive in the mostly redneckish Edgewater MD area 5 years ago I'd have called you insane. Being a sophisticated redneck myself, I know I'll keep patronizing this place as long as they're there! read more

Coming from Northern Virginia where vietnamese restaurants are a plenty we were so happy to find one here in Edgewater. The pho is as good as that in NOVA and their other dishes including papaya salad (when available) are fantastic. We hope they manage to stay around. read more

We ordered from the online menu. The total should have been approx $45. When we picked up the order it was $68. We paid, but called back to say we had been overcharged. Saigon Palace said the online menu was not accurate and his daughter needed to update it?? They took no responsibility for their false advertising and error. The menu listed on yelp also has the wrong costs... The Hot & Sour soup was awful, mostly broth, bean sprouts and 4 pieces of shrimp for $13.99. Will not go back. read more

Always a solid performer in the Pho department, which is typically what I order when getting Vietnamese. I have been here about half a dozen times for soup and have always been impressed. Service has been on par with similar ethnic restaurants in the area, which is to say sometimes they are overwhelmed with a few servers and other times the dining room is quiet. With so few great ethnic options in the Annapolis area it's important to support them! read more

We tried this place the moment they opened and that was a mistake, but a recent visit has revealed this place is definitely good to go and has made it on to our regular rotation list. Our first visit in the first few days they opened suffered from our own extreme expectations of finally some Vietnamese in the Annapolis area and from the restaurant's growing pains of new staff, building, etc. Meals were 'meh' and service was confused, to say the least. That's all changed. Our recent dinner was excellent, reminding me of some of the great Vietnamese places in the Northern Virginia area. We had the Pho Tai & Tripe which came in a very large bowl and also the Bun Bo Nuong (?) which is a rice noodle with beef and a sweet sauce (I always knew it as Bun Bo Xioa but I think it is the same). Can recommend both--the later is good for folks with less than adventurous palates who want to try something safe. Had the summer rolls which were about as good as any others I've had. Decor is clean, service was quick and responsive. We were definitely pleased that we tried this place again and will be back more in the future. read more

As good as it gets here in Annapolis... Nothing compares to CA or my mom's but it's one of the better places here. When I'm in Annapolis and I'm craving pho, this is the place I go.
