I stopped by Umami for lunch last week when I was in Annapolis for work. I ordered one of their specials - glutinous rice shumai - and some of their soup dumplings (they make four different kinds, plus offer a combo) - peppercorn spicy pork soup dumplings. I didn't find the soup dumplings spicy, but the flavor was great and they were wonderfully soupy. The glutinous rice shumai were good as well. I really enjoyed my lunch of dumplings and a cup of tea! The service was very good (friendly, helpful, and fast), and the restaurant is cool and attractive while still being casual and comfortable. I'd happily return for another meal of dumplings!

First time dining here and I had a great experience. The staff are friendly and they even opened the door for us, which I truly appreciated since my mother uses a cane. The place is cozy and clean, and the food is delicious and reasonably affordable. Definitely, I'm coming back!!

Great Scott this place was fire. Start with the fact that the place is super spotless and the staff is super friendly. Into the food started with the spicy pork soup dumplings. Wow, very flavorful and the temperature was perfect. Great presentation and value. For my main I went with Tantanmen spicy pork ramen, what a great choice. The mix was perfect and the soup had a perfect balance between spices and add-ons.

    4 different rolls. All wonderful!

I am a sushi snob (having been introduced to real Japanese sushi by a "Japanese-trained" sushi chef for years) and I have to say that Umami served up the best sushi I've had in the past 5 years! I'm scared because now they're on door-dash so I could have it every day ‍

Friendly. Great service. We liked all the food. Nice to have a place around here that serves soup dumplings! Ramen looked and smelled great. Ahi Tuna bowls were very nice sized portions. Avocado bomb is a little heavy on the krab slaw, but is very good. It is an avocado stuffed with cream cheese that is fried. It's yummy.

Craving EKIBEN but not up for the trek to Baltimore, I searched Yelp for Asian fusion and found Umami. Umami is a cute spot tucked in the festival at Riva shopping center. They specialize in ramen and dumplings. Service was prompt and efficient with my water and iced tea. Refills and the bao buns hit the spot. However, I wish they offered more adventurous feelings like Ekiben does. But the real star? The crab rangoons were crispy and addictive. Hoping this spot sticks around Annapolis needs more places like this.

The best Japanese place around. Great ramen: tasty I had the vegan one with extra spice (alas, not enough! They make their own dumplings (yum) Wonderful service ... they leave a pitcher of water without asking! And offer, spacers for the non chopstick users Poke bowls and buns too. I will be back because THIS is the best ramen around ... I've been searching

My bf really enjoyed the one spicy pork soup dumpling I let him have.

The ramen here is delicious. And soup dumplings! We had the bang bang chicken, the spicy pork soup dumplings, a tonkatsu ramen and a miso ramen. The bang bang sauce is a sesame based cream sauce with a little kick and the chicken was fried nicely. My favorite were the soup dumplings -- I adore soup dumplings and they have a bunch of different flavors. The ramen was excellent -- the best I've had in Annapolis. I realize that's not saying much, but I eat ramen a lot when I'm traveling for work and this is certainly up there. The pork chasu was delicious. Roasted in house. Generous portions and I thought the price point was fine. Excellent service also. Highly recommend!

The food here is amazing! My father and I ordered online for the first time yesterday and decided to come in today. The restaurant is beautiful, I love what they did with the place. Our server was helpful and we got our food pretty quickly. Would definitely recommend!

This place is so good, they are so nice, and in the photo I got carry out but in the restaurant it's very nice and they have nice plates, but the dumplings are amazing, the avocado bombs are so good and honestly I haven't had anything bad here, the fry's are the worst thing but they are still a solid 8/10 so amazing restaurant. Amazing service and ambiance.

This was the perfect little spot for dinner! I enjoyed the dumplings so much. There was a perfect amount of items on the menu I could choose from. I left full and happy!

When I heard there was a new ramen and dumpling restaurant in town, I decided immediately to take my partner there the first evening we had free. That was this evening, and I'm very glad we went, though there was one significant problem. The vibe in there is great, relaxing and warm. We were seated quickly and able to order pretty quickly, too. However, we waited for over 45 minutes for our food, watching others who had come in after us be served before us. Eventually, my partner got the attention of one of the servers and asked about it, and it turned out there was a problem with the printer and our order had been overlooked. Soon after, we were served, and they resolved the problem to our satisfaction. While I did give 4 stars rather than 5, it's due to the fact that we sat for so long without anyone noticing, and we plan to go back and give the place another shot for sure, since they just opened. The food itself was delicious. We got tonkatsu ramen and steamed edamame, with matcha mochi for dessert. The edamame was steamed and salted perfectly. The ramen broth was tasty and the egg was perfection. The pork chashu itself was good, but could have been more flavorful. The mochi was served prettily, with whipped cream and a chocolate sauce drizzle. We look forward to trying the dumplings next time, though we will wait a little while for them to be open longer before we have our second visit.

It was 11:45 am when I visited so I would've thought they would have some kind of business. I checked out menu since this was first visit at this establishment. Decided on the number N1 which is pork ramen. I also decided to give the Thai Tea w/boba (tapioca round thingys) a try since I have never tried one. Let's start with the ramen. I asked if the ramen was spicy and she said no but they can make it spicy. I decided to go with the original. I should have gone with a bit of spice because the pork based broth was very bland. The two pieces of pork they give you had a very strange taste to it. I did not eat it. The mushrooms tasted and looked like ones you get out of a can. The other two ingredients were corn? and sliced green onion, and lots of it. Why do you have corn in ramen? I did not want chowder, I want ramen. Plus it was not worth 15 dollars I paid for such cheap ingredients. The Thai Tea w/Boba was tasty but I did not care for the gelatinous tapioca balls in the drink. If I ever get this drink again I will forgo the boba. Service was good, counter lady was nice enough, and their bathroom was fairly clean but I will find somewhere to go for soup, like a Pho place instead.

Was recently visiting friends in Annapolis and they suggested making the short 15 min drive across…read morethe Thomas Johnson Bridge (or what the locals refer to as the Solomons Bridge) into nearby Edgewater to have dinner at Nova. I usually approach suburban sushi joints with a bit of trepidation, but tbh, I had an excellent experience here. Located in a cookie-cutter strip mall, the place was PACKED on a Friday night. The interior could also be described as "any Asian restaurant in America" with tile flooring, dark hardwood furniture, a large sushi bar, and generic art pieces on the wall. We started with an appetizer of Edamame and small bottles of hot sake. The soybeans were steamed in their pods and lightly salted and had that addictive quality which paired well with the slightly sweet and acidic flavor profile of sake. Sushi plate arrived about 10 minutes later, and again for suburb sushi, I was pleasantly surprised. Standouts included: * spider roll - Deep fried soft shell crab is a standard bearer and is a reflection of the sushi chefs skills. Crab had a light batter and wasn't overly oily. * Spicy scallop - Anytime a place advertises a dish as being spicy, my default is it will be "American level spicy." The scallops tasted fresh and didn't have any slimy texture (unlike at some places). Cucumber and tempura bits added a nice crunch; spicy mayo was more sweet than adding any heat. * Wicked Tuna Roll - Actually, quite good. Inside the roll contained spicy tuna, cukes, onions; which was then topped with cuts of tuna and a jalpeno "salsa." All of the contrasting flavors complemented each other. Service was as expected. Wait staff arrived within 3 minutes of initial seating, kept water glasses filled, and frequently stopped by to check on us. If you're out in Edgewater or the Annapolis area and are seeking good sushi, bookmark Nova.

My husband had the smoked salmon avocado toast and it was so filling he couldn't finish it! We got the kid's meal for our child, which I'm assuming he enjoyed very much as well? Our seating was upstairs with other families also there for Father's Day, but seating was much quicker than I thought :) It was a little pricey for two adults and a toddler, but it was worth the visit go check it out!

They are definitely lighter on the sauce, so if that's your preference these are perfect. Personally, I like my wings a little saucier, so I would probably ask for extra sauce next time. The chicken itself was fried perfectly and the portion size was pretty solid. For my main, I got the buffalo chicken wrap with no buffalo sauce and it was amazing. The lettuce, guac, and pico all tasted fresh and paired really nicely with the breaded chicken in the wrap. My only complaint with it is they go pretty light on the guac and pico, so I wish there was a bit more of both. The pricing overall was fair too and didn't feel over the top for the quality and portions. The fries that came with the wrap deserve their own mention because they were phenomenal. Crispy golden brown on the outside with a soft, fluffy inside. Honestly, I'd come back just for the fries alone. I requested outdoor seating when making the reservation and they have a really nice outdoor section with a great atmosphere and view. They did a good job with the space they had, but the tables are pretty close together, so you can hear basically every conversation around you. The chairs were also a bit smaller and not the most comfortable for longer seating. Service was great all around. Our server was very polite and even helped my very undecided sister choose her meal. Everyone was friendly and it definitely feels like a nice place to bring friends or family. My only real complaint, and honestly this applies to a lot of places nearby, is the parking. It was pretty rough. Other than that, definitely a place I'd come back to.

Let me put this out here now. The 2 stars is for FOOD and id give 4 stars for CUSTOMER SERVICE if I could. Based on photos on reviews people praised the sushi rolls etc but my group wanted a variety of everything because well we dined with kids. Their menu consists of sushi, Thai food, Chinese food etc ... we ordered a plethora of food . shrimp tempura, chicken and vegetable tempura, kids steak.. sizzling beef w rice... sushi entree.. miso soups and tom yum soup and pad Thai. THE FOOD WAS NOT GOOD! we've dined at many sushi restaurants, Thai food places ,Chinese restaurants.. we KNOW what things should taste like and this was NOT it at all. The sizzling rice beef only good thing about it was the presentation. The sizzle and smoke show when it arrived. This dish was made with such a generic bland sauce with wierd textured beef. It was EDIBLE.. But thats all I can say. Pad thai.. my my my .. This was the most soupy orange colored looking dish with over cooked noodles. Tasted NOTHING like pad thai.. please remove this off the menu. The shrimp tempura.. tell me why on your menu you described this as lightly battered shrimp etc etc like it was hand made and dipped by you in in tempura flakes? not only did this dish come out wayyyy too fast after ordering that we KNEW once we got the shrimp tempura that this place wasnt going to be good. The shrimp tempura was clearly frozen and the horrible coating that you usually get with frozen shrimp tempura from the store was thick and shrimp was skinny and inedible. idk if this was microwaved but i doubt they even fried it since it literally came out in 5 min after ordering. Costco shrimp tempura in the freezer section would of been way better than this. My kids barely touched this dish and they LOVE shrimp tempura so much. Please change the description on your menu. It makes it seem like you would be dipping and coating your own shrimp tempura when in fact this is frozen and coated in a thick bread batter not in a nice light tempura flakes batter.. the sushi! OMG.. The sushi Entree was horrible. The fish looked like play dough .. i felt bad for my husband .. the sushi was not fresh idk where they get their fish from but the sushi looked as if it was "Play sushi " the colors were off.. My husband said there was something off about the taste and we could see it. We've dined at many sushi restaurants from high end to $ sushi restaurants.. We've even had sushi in Korea,& Japan.. the texture, the look of the fish pieces this was inedible and not sushi. Would not recommend. Tom yum soup.. very orange.. very concentrated needed more water and the shrimp were diced in small pieces. Maybe used 2-3 shrimp and this cost $7. There was only a sour taste and no spice to it at all. Don't recommend if you know me I HATE wasting money on bad food. The reviews definitely tricked us into coming here. The only thing I felt like was a 7/10 was the sushi rolls which had spicy tuna , shrimp tempura, and all the sauces on top from eel sauce and spicy mayo. That was the only dish I felt like tasted fine. The Chinese, Thai and sushi dishes were not good and this place is crossed off my list of restaurants. It sucked knowing once we got our first dish I just knew the dishes coming after the shrimp weren't going to be good and my entire group agreed.. so disappointing. Almost $80 down the drain for my family and i. if you're going to have a variety of different cuisines on your menu please perfect them. Otherwise focus on ONE because non of the dishes tasted good. or authentic to how it should've tasted or been made!. 0 stars if I could. SMH . we left 1 hour before closing no other customers in the restaurant after we arrived around 830pm They were counting the registers by 9pm. They close at 1030pm. That should tell you something.. Came home to a bad stomach ache . I'd rather have that then food poisoning so .. took pepto bismol and called it a night
