I stopped by Umami for lunch last week when I was in Annapolis for work. I ordered one of their specials - glutinous rice shumai - and some of their soup dumplings (they make four different kinds, plus offer a combo) - peppercorn spicy pork soup dumplings. I didn't find the soup dumplings spicy, but the flavor was great and they were wonderfully soupy. The glutinous rice shumai were good as well. I really enjoyed my lunch of dumplings and a cup of tea! The service was very good (friendly, helpful, and fast), and the restaurant is cool and attractive while still being casual and comfortable. I'd happily return for another meal of dumplings!

First time dining here and I had a great experience. The staff are friendly and they even opened the door for us, which I truly appreciated since my mother uses a cane. The place is cozy and clean, and the food is delicious and reasonably affordable. Definitely, I'm coming back!!

Great Scott this place was fire. Start with the fact that the place is super spotless and the staff is super friendly. Into the food started with the spicy pork soup dumplings. Wow, very flavorful and the temperature was perfect. Great presentation and value. For my main I went with Tantanmen spicy pork ramen, what a great choice. The mix was perfect and the soup had a perfect balance between spices and add-ons.

Friendly. Great service. We liked all the food. Nice to have a place around here that serves soup dumplings! Ramen looked and smelled great. Ahi Tuna bowls were very nice sized portions. Avocado bomb is a little heavy on the krab slaw, but is very good. It is an avocado stuffed with cream cheese that is fried. It's yummy.

Craving EKIBEN but not up for the trek to Baltimore, I searched Yelp for Asian fusion and found Umami. Umami is a cute spot tucked in the festival at Riva shopping center. They specialize in ramen and dumplings. Service was prompt and efficient with my water and iced tea. Refills and the bao buns hit the spot. However, I wish they offered more adventurous feelings like Ekiben does. But the real star? The crab rangoons were crispy and addictive. Hoping this spot sticks around Annapolis needs more places like this.

Take out - The image shows a table with multiple dim sum dishes, including yellow steamed dumplings, a red steamed bun, and a fried dumpling with dipping soy sauce. Additional takeout containers with more dumplings and sauces are visible in the background, along with a white cup and utensils. The setting appears to be an outdoor or casual dining area.

This place is so good, they are so nice, and in the photo I got carry out but in the restaurant it's very nice and they have nice plates, but the dumplings are amazing, the avocado bombs are so good and honestly I haven't had anything bad here, the fry's are the worst thing but they are still a solid 8/10 so amazing restaurant. Amazing service and ambiance.

The best Japanese place around. Great ramen: tasty I had the vegan one with extra spice (alas, not enough! They make their own dumplings (yum) Wonderful service ... they leave a pitcher of water without asking! And offer, spacers for the non chopstick users Poke bowls and buns too. I will be back because THIS is the best ramen around ... I've been searching

My bf really enjoyed the one spicy pork soup dumpling I let him have.

The ramen here is delicious. And soup dumplings! We had the bang bang chicken, the spicy pork soup dumplings, a tonkatsu ramen and a miso ramen. The bang bang sauce is a sesame based cream sauce with a little kick and the chicken was fried nicely. My favorite were the soup dumplings -- I adore soup dumplings and they have a bunch of different flavors. The ramen was excellent -- the best I've had in Annapolis. I realize that's not saying much, but I eat ramen a lot when I'm traveling for work and this is certainly up there. The pork chasu was delicious. Roasted in house. Generous portions and I thought the price point was fine. Excellent service also. Highly recommend!

The food here is amazing! My father and I ordered online for the first time yesterday and decided to come in today. The restaurant is beautiful, I love what they did with the place. Our server was helpful and we got our food pretty quickly. Would definitely recommend!

This was the perfect little spot for dinner! I enjoyed the dumplings so much. There was a perfect amount of items on the menu I could choose from. I left full and happy!

Tonkatsu ramen and steamed edamame

When I heard there was a new ramen and dumpling restaurant in town, I decided immediately to take my partner there the first evening we had free. That was this evening, and I'm very glad we went, though there was one significant problem. The vibe in there is great, relaxing and warm. We were seated quickly and able to order pretty quickly, too. However, we waited for over 45 minutes for our food, watching others who had come in after us be served before us. Eventually, my partner got the attention of one of the servers and asked about it, and it turned out there was a problem with the printer and our order had been overlooked. Soon after, we were served, and they resolved the problem to our satisfaction. While I did give 4 stars rather than 5, it's due to the fact that we sat for so long without anyone noticing, and we plan to go back and give the place another shot for sure, since they just opened. The food itself was delicious. We got tonkatsu ramen and steamed edamame, with matcha mochi for dessert. The edamame was steamed and salted perfectly. The ramen broth was tasty and the egg was perfection. The pork chashu itself was good, but could have been more flavorful. The mochi was served prettily, with whipped cream and a chocolate sauce drizzle. We look forward to trying the dumplings next time, though we will wait a little while for them to be open longer before we have our second visit.

A bowl of ramen contains soft-boiled eggs with runny yolks, slices of pork, green onions, mushrooms, and corn in a creamy broth. A black spoon and ladle rest on the bowl's edge, with empty plates visible in the background, indicating a dining setting at a ramen restaurant.

The food and the atmosphere were excellent. The soup dumpling was terrific, so juicy and totally different compared to the frozen food.

We went for dinner there. It is about 15 mins from Annapolis City Dock and it's in a strip mall. There is lot of parking available. When we went in it wasn't that crowded. We were seated promptly. We ordered a lot of appetizers including avocado bomb, bao, dumplings, loved the appetizer spread. They were amazing!! For main course we ordered the Teriyaki chicken and my spouse ordered chicken ramen. I think being a ramen restaurant the ramen was bland and had a gamey smell. The teriyaki chicken on the other hand was amazing. I didn't ask if the entree menu was compact compared to appetizer menu because it's a soft opening. Overall, loved the food. Wish they can make the ramen a little better, that would be my only criticism

Vegan ramen - Two bowls of ramen are placed on a wooden table, each containing broth, noodles, seaweed, slices of pork, and vegetables. Chopsticks rest on the bowls, and spoons are included for eating. In the background, a person wearing a white shirt is partially visible, and condiments are on the table.

We are very much Thai fans, and the possibility of a great Thai place with great sushi was sounded almost too good to be true. And it was. Perhaps it's the dearth of quality Asian cuisine here in the Annapolis area that has falsely produced such high marks for Nova, but we found our fare to be adequate at best. (Two from our dinner party opted for the descriptor of "meh") The ambiance is cute - clean, bright, with exceptionally friendly (and numerous!) waitstaff. Our servers were helpful and attentive and we had high hopes for the experience. We started with three sushi rolls: Edgewater, Yoda, and one other whose name escapes me . The rolls were good. Not earthshatteringly good - just solid. Like a dependable Chevy truck. We also tried the sizzling steak and the chicken pad Thai. Both were almost over sauced. The pad Thai had a nice sour note (a hallmark of the dish) but it almost felt like the noodles were swimming in the sauce and, in my opinion, the noodles began to break down as a consequence. The sizzling steak felt cloyingly sweet to me - but the others in the group were quite as put off as I was. Again - making the meal simply "fine" As much as we hoped to find that hidden gem - we found that we need to continue our search for Asian cuisine in the area

I had to go grab a backpack, and when I returned 10 minutes later she ranted about how attentive to the table he was! Food came out spectacular, he remembered everything we asked for and was exceptionally patient with our 1.5 year old. Joshua made the experience wonderful, and made our anniversary even better. However, the chicken was breast meat and sliced thin, which made it come across as dry. I did tell the server I liked it and didn't go into much detail since she seemed very busy and I didn't want to add stress in the moment. Still, it's not something I would personally order again. The waffle situation was more frustrating. I initially received cornmeal waffles, but I had told my server ahead of time that I strongly avoid cornmeal. She said she would substitute them, so I was surprised when the plate came out with the original cornmeal waffles. I didn't realize at first and ended up taking a bite before noticing. I let the server know and she had the kitchen remake it. The replacement Belgian waffles were overcooked and dense, so they didn't really improve the experience. The butter though was genuinely delicious, just very rich and more of a holiday-style flavor than something I'd personally crave in warmer weather. I also had a basic cup of coffee made with Rise Up Coffee Roasters, which was $4.50. That felt overpriced for what it was. I could have walked right across the street and had a specialty coffee from the source for very little extra cost, which honestly would have been the better choice. Overall, the experience had some clear issues, especially with the waffle mix-up and consistency, but it wasn't completely disappointing. I just don't think I would personally order the same meal again.

Recently I went with a group of family, some from out of the area, as it is convenient, the food is good, and is a good introduction to Bay life. While my out of town family thought it was great, I was honestly a little disappointed with the food. First, however, the entire staff were incredible and it is hard to beat the setting. Everyone was friendly, authentic and helpful. One of our group was celebrating a big birthday and the Cantler's team made him feel very special. Second, some of the food was very good such as the fresh oysters, oyster chowder and the hush puppies. Unfortunately, a lot of the food wasn't great, especially the seafood sampler and the crab cake. Maybe we should have asked for the crab cake and sampler to be broiled rather than fried, and that may have been why we were disappointed. The crab cake was particularly disappointing as it seemed mostly leg and backfill meat with a fair amount of filler and then deep fried. Will I go back, mostly like because of the staff and the gorgeous setting, but will only order steamed crabs to pick.
