The food here is alright, a little overpriced for the amount of portion you'd get on you plate. I wouldn't recommend getting any beverages here since my friends smoothies had no fruit flavor only the taste and mostly chewing of sugar that's in the drink itself. Whoever own this place is stingy and shameless. I ordered vermicelli with grilled nem and they brought out a bowl of vermicelli with a couple tiny sprinklings of nem. I ask them why so little nem and they said sorry they ran out. Of course they charged me the full price of the bowl with only 1/3 of the ordered ingredient inside. If you run out of something, then have the decency to tell the patron and offer an alternative. read more

I go here as it is very convenient because of the available parking on nearby streets...and you can kind of use the parking lot from their neighbors, Fuloon restaurant. You're not supposed to, but there are usually plenty of spaces. I would give the food 2.5 stars. I've definitely had better pho. A Vietnamese friend did say that he doesn't like the pho there and it's nothing like authentic pho. I'd have to give 1 star for everything else. The service is mediocre. The servers only do three things, take an order, bring out food and collect the cash. Out of the 6-7 years that I've been going to this place, I've only had a waitress ask me once how the food was during the meal. And they never refill the tea or water without asking. At first, I thought it was a cultural thing on the minimal service thing, but it's not the case at other Vietnamese restaurants. As I've said earlier, I've been going to this place for about 7 years now and the food portions have been increasingly smaller and smaller every time I go. I always order the XL bowl of pho. They definitely put less noodles in there now. As for the meat, when the restaurant opened, they had 4 thin slices of beef, now it's down to two. They use to have a little bit of tripe and fresh cut onions on top. There is none now. Two of the last 3 times, they didn't have any tendons in the pho. They use to only give 1, so it's easy keep count. I complained, but I only realize the lack of tendon towards the end of the meal. It would have been weird for them to just bring out 1 piece of tendon that's half the size of a Post-It note. The XL bowl has deteriorated into a small bowl from 4 years ago. I use to be pants button popping full after a XL bowl. Now, I'm still hungry. To make it worse, I've lost weight and my appetite has gone down, so I don't eat as much as before to get me full. For takeout, beware. They tack on a 75 cent surcharge for each takeout item. For the two containers, a bag, a napkin and disposable chopsticks, they are making a profit. The total cost of the takeout material is like 35 cents. Kinda of cheap to do that. I don't know any other restaurant that charges more for takeout. Even then they are cheap with the items. I remember walking in one time to pick up some takeout and the waitress had a conversation with a male manager. She said that she might have forgotten to put napkins in the bag. The manager said that it's takeout, so they should have napkins at home and don't put it in. You can see he was annoyed that she even wanted to put napkins in there. That was my order. Been here multiple times and pretty exclusively get pho each time because it's always very good. Great tasting broth with a healthy amount of quality meat/veg. It always comes out quick, too. I always see the same older man & women servicing, so the service feels very mom & pop. Some might have issue with the pace if you're looking for high-attention, but personally, I've never had an issue with it. OMG! I went here again after the infamous plastic incident and the pho was great. I had takeout and I just wanted to avoid the blandness of my two other pho options in the area so I went here. I was having a bit of a love affair with it for a few weeks...then came the horror. I took my bf here to pop his Vietnamese cherry and it was awful. My food was great but his vermicelli bowl had like 4 or 5 stray hairs in it. He did let them know and they replaced it but by that time he had lost his appetite. Saigon Noodles is a little vietnamese place across the street from my old work. I had been there years ago, but since i never went out to eat really during work, i hadn't been there again till right before i left, when i had a nice goodbye lunch with Sarah. This is a very small restaurant, and definitely not fancy. We did get nice, prompt service. This place is very cheap, and has great lunch specials. The lunch special comes with spring rolls and soda. The bad thing about the lunch special is that they try to stick the soda down your throat. The waitress just couldn't understand that neither of us like soda. She seemed genuinely concerned that we weren't drinking it... The spring rolls are really good, although if you're allergic to peanuts, DON'T use the dipping sauce. They taste fine without though. The meal portions were very large, especially for lunch, with plenty of delicious rice. I had a tofu vegetable dish which was very yummy. The only one bad thing was that the tea was way too strong to drink, but that is free, so it's ok. I would reccomend this as a good takeout place if you live in the area, or a place to treat yourself to a quick, good lunch. read more

The worst restaurant I have ever been to.... the absolute worst. I order a bowl of pho with extra meatballs and when I get the food im already eating the meat but I didn notice that the meat was green until after I ate some of it already. I ask the waiter why it was green and he said it was because of the vegetables in the broth... that is false but whatever at first I believed that to be the case but I looked into it and it isnt... its rotten fucking meat... then I finished the meat and get onto the noodles. I then find a longgggggggggggg strand of fucking hair in my noodles. Absolutely disgusting.. my friend goes to use the bathroom and he told me there were flies everywhere in there and the smell was awful. They don't take care of their food and they dont take care of their restaurant. That place is absolutely disgusting. I always go to pho bistro which is right across the street and it is by far my favorite Vietnamese restaurant but unfortunately it was closed so I had to go to this shit restaurant. If you want some good Vietnamese food go to pho bistro and don't risk getting food poisoning. read more

I usually don't like to bother with these rating things, but after reading some of the bad reviews on this place I feel like I have to say something to do justice for this place. First of all, this place has some of the best Vietnamese food in the area and I am talking about the Greater Boston area including Dorchester with its large Vietnamese community. Now before you question my taste or knowledge of the Vietnamese cuisine, I just want to say that I am Vietnamese and I eat Viet food on a daily basis. There are four popular Vietnamese noodles soup dishes (pho, hu tieu, bun rieu, bun bo hue) and Saigon Noodle does great on all of them, which is quite surprising considering that most of the other Vietnamese restaurants tend to be good on one or two. In terms of the other aspects of the eating out experience, yes this place does not have the greatest ambiance, yes it does not take cash, yes it is not the cleanest of restaurants, but my question for those who made these complaints is does that surprise you? For anyone who actually eat at many Asian restaurants, you should know that these are very typical traits. Just go to a Chinatown in any major cities and you can confirm this. In the end, go here if you want great tasting Vietnamese food and go elsewhere if you think accepting credit card is more important than good food. read more

Delicious pho. Bowl is heaping with noodles and various cuts of meat and of course all the usual garnishes. The lunch special which includes a bowl of soup, a spring roll and a drink is unbeatable. The only downside is that they have a $10 minimum on cards. This is not posted anywhere so when trying to just get the lunch special on your card you are stuck having to purchase an additional item if no cash. I have always visited during lunch hours and have never experienced the slow service as stated in other reviews. Food gets 5 stars and service gets 1, so I'm giving a generous 3 stars overall. I just came back from THE slowest lunch. It took 40 minutes to get our drink order (canned soda!) and, although 3 of us ordered diet cokes, we received: 1 regular coke, 1 gingerale, and 1 "Berkley and Jensen" off-brand coke. Our food came more than an hour after we arrived. We saw several groups arrive after us and finish their meals before our drinks and apps were delivered. This is just...unacceptable. In fairness, I should say their service is usually minimal/unfriendly but speedy and consistent. After today's experience, though, I doubt I'll be back. Well...maybe for takeout. I was asked to join my housemate and her friend here. Unfortunately, it was not a very good dining experience. Asking about items on the menu was apparently pointless as the women working there did not speak any English. Food quality was way under par. I ordered the salad with shrimp, which was mostly white cabbage. I did enjoy the fresh basil, but the dressing was nothing special and they did not de-vein (remove the poop from) the shrimp. A lot of people complain about the cash only but I think this is more of a feature because it is how they keep their prices well below average. Many gas stations around Malden are cash only as well and their prices are unbeatable. As for the food, I find Saigon Noodle unbeatable even compared to Vietnamese restaurants in Chinatown. I've had their beef noodle pho regularly which is usually great. I've had a couple of visits where the noodle has a strange stale texture but I think they're a fluke as I've had the same experience from time to time in other Vietnamese restaurants too. I've always love the taste of their broth which is the best I've ever had in any other Vietnamese restaurants. Their grill shrimp, pork vermicell or house special vermicell is another favorite of mine and my wife. Their fried rice is amazing as well and rivals even the best Thai fried rice. As for appetizer the ban kok and fried quail is completely amazing. As for service, I've always had a great customer service experience. The waitress always smile, always greet me warmly and make small talk with me. I do agree that the atmosphere could be better but this is a small family run restaurant so I don't expect anything better. read more

I entered the restaurant at 7pm and they only gave us the special lunch menu which was supposed to end at 3 and the selections were limited. I asked if there was a full menu and the server seemed irritated but gave us them nonetheless. I ordered a rice dish and fried egg rolls appetizers. The rice was DRY, HARD and inedible and the eggrolls were drenched in oil. The rest of the party ordered pho and thought it was okay. Will not be coming back here again. read more

Great place! A weekly favorite for nearly 20 years. The pho broth is complex, rich, and deep, slow simmered with the right balance of herbs and spices. The noodles are silky with a nice chew. Bean sprouts, mint, chilies, Thai basil, lime, and red onion are all fresh and in generous portions. The same for the poached chicken and beef, fresh, moist, and flavorful. Their spring rolls are also superb, made to order, the wrappers tender and delicate. Salads are crisp and lively with bright notes of lime, mint, and licorice hints of basil. The traffic here, especially among Asian diners, is a real sign of quality. Lunch is particularly enjoyable when the place buzzes with young kids on their high school lunch break. The prices are not to be beat, and with so many other delicious traditional dishes to try, find your way here. Easy parking or walk from T. I am so pleased to have found a cheap place to get pho in Malden! Great prices, generous portions! Ordered a large bowl of beef noodle pho w/ rare steak ($6.50?). I should've gone for the small bowl, since the one that arrived was as big as my head. I ate so much I felt sloshy afterwards, and STILL had enough to take home. (The extra large bowl is big enough to take a bath in, btw.) Staff was friendly, helpful, efficient and had a sense of humor! While I normally count lack of credit cards as a negative, if it saves me money on my entree, who am I to complain? I love local businesses! read more

Oh Saigon Noodle...what can i say. Well for starters i have to mention that the people who own this restaurant really care about their decor. I come into this place prob about 1-2 times a week and the color scheme of the chop sticks and table cloths are always changing. I enjoy the change of scenery...but if only they put that much time into their food and service. The biggest issue with this place is their consistency. Sometimes i'll go in there and shut it down. The large beef noodle soup with a side of extra noodles and just tear right through it with the desire to devour more. The noodles will be tight, the beansprouts fresh and the basil looking crisp. Other times i'll come in here and get lumpy noodles, dried out limes, and the basil/beansprout dish looks like it had been sitting next to the stove for the past 4 hours. The one reason why i keep comming back to this place is because of the addictive flavor of their soup. This is the result of excess usage of MSG no doubt, but boy does it taste good. I've had pho all over Boston and the soup at Saigon has a very distinct flavor. The pineapple shakes aren't bad either, but only when they aren't watering it down and giving you a straw from a dunkin doughnuts cup that the waitress was drinking from lol. I think this might actually be the best pho I've ever eaten? I'm rating almost exclusively on the quality of the food on account of the service being pretty "meh" at all of my other favorite pho places as well, but there was nothing that the food didn't more than make up for. I ordered the vegetable, and my friends got seafood and Dac Biet. All three of them were wonderful. This place can get a 4-star rating if the quality of food is consistent. The first time I went there, the food was delicious and fresh. The soup is yummy and the noodle was not overcooked. The servers are okay. The second time I dined, the fried chicken was cold in the inside, the shrimps were not fresh. The last time I went was fair, I still have to give them credit for their broth. I have had every local pho joint within a 20 miles radius. Have legitimately probably tried about 30 different places, old and new. Stretching from malden, to chinatown- theres like 3 in malden square alone. I cannot give a full menu review, but as far as soups and fresh spring rolls go, saigon noodle is hands down the BEST. I cannot believe this place has a 3 star rating. For those of you who are a pho-obsessed like me- you probably know what kind of soup youre looking for. These soups do not have that super sweet hoisin taste, they are super rich in flavor, noodles are cooked well, meat is decent. In leu of a fair review, good and bad, ive had better juicier chicken(for the soups) at other places, but those places lack so far behind in every other category that the (still decent) chicken in the soups here at saigon is greatly outweighed by the rest of the perfection it brings to the table. Plus its only the chicken, so if u get beef soup, or any other soup, the chicken problem is pretty null and void. the bean sprouts are always fresh, never brown, and the service is great- usually one man waiting, I believe his name is Tanh, but either way; he's the man. He has offered me complimentary waters when its hot, and is super attentive. Sometimes there are 2 other women that serve too, i think one is Tanh's aunt and one his mother, and one of the two is the owner. Im not really sure who is who, but this is a tight little family owned restaurant and they make sure their customers are happy... one day i forgot my cash and the owner bought me my soup. The next time i came in i obviously paid her back but this gesture spoke volumes. This place is just great. Weekdays until 3pm is lunch special- you get a soup spring roll and drink for like $7.50... that is epic. You really cant beat this place. The first time i came here i tried it with an open mind as another place on my search for the ultimate bowl of pho, and now im a regular. Ive been here up to 3 times a week. I agree wtih folks about the sometimes inconsistency and cash being an issue but the chicken noodle pho (with extra veggies) has always been exactly what I was looking for. So what if the lime is a bit dry or sometimes they forget the hot pepper and I have to ask for it (I think since they've changed owners they have been more inconsistent...), I still get the bowl of soup, amazing tea, a spring roll, and a can of soda for less then $7. I don't ever finish it and have had it to-goed, not so good the second time around with the noodles sucking up the broth and tasting a bit over done BUT I get two meals out of it.
