Beef Stew & Wonton Noodle Soup at Saigon Corner 11/2024
Vivian C.

Saigon Corner is more Chinese than Vietnamese, and it isn't on a corner. But service was friendly, and they let me use their not for the public bathroom when I really needed to go (but I can see why it isn't convenient to share with the public as a rule). Family and friends love their beef stew, wonton, and dumplings. I could see why as there were whole shrimp in the meat filling I spied on the table being folded into the wontons being freshly wrapped. But for my first visit, I was hankering Hong Kong Cafe style food and ordered the baked tomato sauce pork chop rice dish for $15 cash, to go. It came with a spoon and chopsticks, and I ate a good 2/3 of it. The rice was stir fried with egg. I prefer more cheese on my tomato sauce, but it was still tasty and tummy warming. I made it back here with family on another visit, and we were happily stuffed with one order of beef stew & wonton noodle soup apiece, and a shared order of their fried dumplings. Yum!

Interior is small but clean and looks recently remodeled. They mainly speak Cantonese so communication was a bit tough but the menu has English on it with pictures. Server came quickly but we weren't ready cuz of all the options on the menu but she came back twice and we put in our order then. Food came hot and fresh, the wontons were filled with pork and shrimp and the dumplings had mushroom and bamboo shoots in addition to pork/shrimp. Soup is slightly sweet like all wonton soups but I would prefer it to be more salty. There's a cash only sign but also a zelle QR code in case you didn't bring cash like me!

Delicious wonton soup! This place is the best as the egg noodle is not mushy, they cook it perfectly so that it still holds a bit of a chew/crunch. Wontons have big chunks of shrimp. A bit on the sweeter side but still delicious. Beef tendon is so tasty and tender. Great flavor! Must order a Hong Kong milk tea to tie the whole meal together!! Service is quick and friendly staff.

I liked this hole in the wall place. It's small, and fills up quickly in a Sunday morning. We walked in about 10:30am, only ones. And as we left at 11ish- almost all the tables were full. Friendly service. We got the Yuen yung, coffee/tea hot drink was perfect blend and just enough sweetness. Started with the wonton/dumpling mix and we preferred the wontons so we ordered an extra bowl of them. The spicy HK noodles, very chewy and bouncy noodles! So perfectly cooked and the right about of texture, no mush at all. We found the pork in it kind meh, it was interesting though. Also got the baked pork chop spaghetti. Not too sweet, the sauce gave me tomato soup vibes (not in a bad way). The pork chop was cooked well, the noodles were cooked to the doneness I would say of Asian style - a bit beyond Al dente which I think suits this dish. Again not our favorite. We would return. I heard this family is related to Maxis in Flushing (iykyk) so we came out to see how how similar or different. The wontons are filled with lots of shrimp, there is visible seasoning but it'a not like the Flushing place. Different but still tasty.

Affordable. The wonton noodle soup is very flavorful. The place is small. Service is quick.

Finally tried this place after moving closer to the area. Got the Spicy Beef Satay Wonton Soup. It was delicious and hit the spot on a cool day. Very nice and friendly staff. Can't wait to go back and try something else. Keep in mind... it is cash only. Or you could use Zelle.

Good HK style food. Enjoyed the dishes, including the hot HK milk tea (which is sweet). Not a lot of seating but enough for lunch time. Staff speaks mostly Chinese (Cantonese or mandarin)

Curry Beef Stew Noodle Soup but where is the Curry !

Today I am so disappointed about the foods in this restaurant. I ordered a curry beef stew noodle soup so when the soup came out I noticed there wasn't any curry taste at all in the broth. I called the waitress over then the waitress told me " I can bring you a little cup of curry ". So I dumped the curry into the broth then the broth became warm. Worse soup I had ever had in a long times.

Amazing comfort food in the heart of North Quincy. Don't let the name fool you. Saigon Corner is not your banh mi shop. It's a Cantonese/HK hidden gem that serves wonton and noodle soup dishes. It is a small cafe with limited seating. Whether you're there to dine in or take out, make sure to bring cash. Fried Wontons: Came out extra crispy and had whole pieces of pork and shrimp, instead of ground meat. They also have Fried Dumplings on the appetizer menu - this might be the ground meat version. Beef Tendon and Wonton Noodle Soup: Noodles were al dente. Broth was hearty. Good amount of beef tendon with the chewy texture that I like. Wontons were super juicy and plump - this is the ground meat version. Tomato Sauce Pork Chop Fried Rice: Sauce was sweet and savory over a bed of fragrant egg fried rice. There were at least 2-3 whole pieces of pork chop for this one order cut up into bite size - a great value!

White sauce with pork, egg, and sausage over spaghetti

I was super curious about eating spaghetti at an Asian restaurant but I do think getting rice would've been better I added pepper because the white sauce itself didn't have a ton of flavoring. The pork was so good! And my sister got wontons which were so good we bought the frozen ones they were selling. The shop is small with not a lot of seats. They also got our order wrong a couple times due to miscommunication between the person who took our order and the person who charged us but thankfully it was all figured out before the kitchen started cooking.

So value and so good. Apparently the prices have gone up, but it's still super cheap. Only drawback…read moreis the food can get a little greasy, so be prepared. Chow Foon (8/10): Extremely solid, with plenty of wok hei. I always judge chow foon off of the beef, and they did pretty well here. It was tender and flavorful. Noodles had perfect texture. Chicken Quarter Appetizer (7/10): This was pretty good fried chicken. Very crispy. I think Cafe Mami in Porter Square still does it better. It was a bit too greasy for me. It's VERY value though ($9.99 for a massive piece) Bolo Bao w/ Silky Scramble Egg (8.5/10): I haven't had this combo before, but it was very good. Their silky scramble egg dishes are a must-try. Cream-Filled French Toast topped with Ovaltine (9/10): Delicious. They somehow made cheese work with this. I applaud it. Baked Pork Chop w/ Portuguese Sauce (8.5/10): Portuguese sauce was delicious. Pork was tender and flavorful. Cheese on top was delicious. We waited about 90 minutes for Saturday lunch. I would highly recommend not coming with more than 4 people. If you do, you should split your party. They only have one large table. Service was very good, though. Food came out super fast.

Be prepared to find street parking and even do a little walking. As for wait time, I have been here twice during lunch and on the second trip I did have to wait 20 minutes for a table. The restaurant was packed and there were plenty of takeout orders throughout the meal when I dined in both time. Clearly, a local favorite. You can try the trio appetizer that lets you try the fish ball, fish dumpling, and rice rolls. It's the right amount to share with three people and each person gets a taste of the three appetizers. My favorite had to be the rice balls, followed by the fish dumplings, and last the rice noodles. Of the toasts I have tried so far, I preferred the sweet toast dessert filled with milk as opposed to the truffle egg toast. For entree, I have to say, the fried chicken with the omelet egg is a must try. Next would be the Hainese chicken. Then third with be the sorrowful rice, which is two fried eggs and bbq pork. Everything was so flavorful. You have to try the milk teas. If you prefer sweet, go for the ice bear milk tea, but if you like a bit bitter, go for the hot version and add sugar to your preference. Overall, food came at a fast pace, service attentive. There is plenty of seating end even seating in a private dining space for a larger group of 10 or so in the back of the restaurant. I would definitely be coming back. See my pictures.

Between my friend and I, we ordered three items. We started off strong with the salt and pepper chicken wings. They were perfectly fried, sprinkled with salt, and adorned with fresh jalapeños. Then we got the curry beef brisket with rice. The beef is so hearty and tender. The sauce sopped up every morsel of rice. And the star of the show was the baked pork chop rice with tomato sauce. This dish was so satisfying. It's a crispy pork chop over a bed of fried rice. Ladled on top is a blanket of tomato sauce and gooey cheese. If it is your first time eating at Jinye Cafe , please order the baked pork chop rice with tomato sauce. It is like a hug in a bowl. Jinye Cafe has three available tables.
