Working with Gene was a breeze. I contacted him and he quickly came down for a free evaluation. He was comprehensive, explaining where the safety issues are and why. He left an estimate of all the possible things to fix and how much it would be for him to do it, including materials, labor and tax. His advice on timing was that he gets casual calls from parents with 8-9 months olds and frantic calls at 11-12 months. I asked for what gates he planned to use and he was transparent about the exact model, which was the top pick on recommendation sites. Since he is a one person operation, coordinating is easy and can happen over text or a call. He came by, did all the work himself, and showed me how it all worked. He asks good questions like "which way do you want the gate to swing. Here's the options and trade offs". My TV needed a special screw so he did the rest of the work and then came back once he was able to find it, even though it was a much smaller job. I'm really happy to have all the childproofing done and properly installed. One FYI is the cost is quite little (less than $100 for our 4 story townhome) for the little things like door stoppers and cabinet locks. The price adds up when you start doing gates. read more

I cannot believe it's taken me so long to write a review for Gene! He is seriously AWESOME!! We have 2 very weird stairwells, and Gene came in and installed some really nice looking gates for us. My husband said that would have probably taken him 2 days to put something like that in, but Gene did it in a couple of hours. He also brought specialized wood panels to match and to help fit the gate in the opening. Besides the gates, Gene also recommended and provided many other baby proofing items for us that we may not have even considered (stove knob covers, a holder for our blinds strings, etc.) And lastly, he tethered both our bookshelf and TV to the wall so our daughter cannot pull them down on herself. We moved into a new place that has a staircase and a glass wall next to it, so needed a special glass mount for our safety gate to be installed. Gene came highly recommended so we booked him the day we moved in. He was wonderful. Glad I had Gene come to do an assessment & then do the work! I was playing phone tag with another company (& being a busy mom, I'm not always near my phone or available to answer a call) but you would think they would call you back by the end of the business day. Guess they didn't really need the business? Oh well, happy I was able to give it to SBB! Gene is super nice & was honest about what needed to be done ASAP or what could wait so you don't have to pay for 'everything' right now. As the baby starts to reach higher areas & go to other areas of our place I will probably be giving Gene a call to do more work unless we move first. But even then I would call him to install stuff at the new place! Since I'm pretty anal retentive about things looking clean, it was refreshing that his work made the baby-proofing items blend in really well ! While you can't avoid but notice a baby gate, at least it doesn't totally stand out! : ) He also installed plexiglass to cover the big gaps in our railings and you barely notice it's there! * the website has pictures of his work if you want to see On top of all this, Gene vacuumed up any anything he had to drill etc. & took off his shoes when he came in. Im way overdue on this post. Nearly 2 years ago, I had Gene come to my home and install some items. Great prompt service. reasonable pricing and offered suggestions when prompted. He was not pushy and quickly worked. Fast forward to now. One of my gates was wearing down and he returned to adjust with another piece as a COURTESY! I had every intention of paying a service call because these gates are used very hard with children. Its unreasonable to think thy should last forever. I initially contacted him over the Safe Baby Boundaries website and he got back to me by the end of the day. An appointment was scheduled for a couple of days later and my husband said he was very professional when doing the house walk-through. Our walls have molding and installing gates had become a challenge for us. Gene came in and installed wood panels to match the molding and help fit the gate; he also installed drawer locks and stove knob covers. He also tethered the TVs to the wall as well as a couple of dressers. We asked Gene to install a variety of safety devices in our condo rental to protect our one year old from a variety of dangers. We had a pretty good idea about what we wanted, and Gene was accommodating and offered a few ideas of his own. He installed locks on pocket doors and closets, bolted mirrors and televisions to walls, installed a gate, furniture brackets, and put latches on bathroom cabinets and multiple kitchen drawers. One of the more creative things he did was put large Plexiglass coverings on oven panels and stereo equipment (attached with Velcro). The total cost was around $500, which seemed about right given the custom attention we received. A year and a half after the installation, we called Gene to remove some of the equipment and repair some of the walls. There was a small charge for this visit which was more than reasonable given the time involved and value to us. Bottom line: Gene helped us minimize risk to our child during a vulnerable time in his rambunctious life, and he was kind enough to come back out to take his stuff away and make minor repairs when there really wasn't anything in it for him by way of profit.
