Andre cleaned and redid the faulty installation of my dryer vent, which had been a fire hazard. He also fixed a door that had come off its track, took down old blinds and installed new shades. He does great work, is super professional and the estimate Norbert gave me ended up being accurate. After working with Fixer and Fit It People for a few years, I can say Chicago Handy operates at a higher quality level. We had splash guards installed on our tub multiples times before, but now are finally secured. Similarly, we needed a few passes at a curtain rod. Being a single woman will have challenges, but It has never been about loneliness. I'd rather have a handyman available at the snap of my fingers. I needed my flat-screen TV hung. After calling the company that sold me the TV, and having them tell me they don't do house calls unless the job involves an entire entertainment system, I turned to my friends. I offered a reasonable sum of cash to one of my guy friends, who flaked on me because he was unwilling to do the job before 8pm. Then a coworker brought it to my attention that there were small businesses in Chicago specifically oriented toward these kind of small tasks. That's when I found Norbert, owner of Chicago Handy. All I had was a first name. Without meeting him in person, hiring Norbert honestly scared the crap out of me. I had no idea what this man looked like, and knew nothing of how the business was run. You can take the girl out of the suburbs, but you can't take the suburbs out of the girl. Bless Norbert. The minute I greeted him at the door, all my fears instantly dissipated and the person standing in front of me was a hard-working, polite, professional, and organized young man. Bro, you need to post a picture of yourself! Show the world how approachable you are! With one hand Norbert was pulling a small cart loaded with all of his tools, and in his other hand, a wall level for measuring, along with a vacuum. I instantly wanted to help him carry some of his things upstairs and I suddenly felt silly for hiring such a professional service for my bootleg apartment. Sometimes I love it when all of my preconceptions are wrong. I'll never forget this moment. I even laughed with embarrassment when Norbert attempted to put on a second set of house shoes so that he wouldn't dirty up my apartment. Neither of us are handy (it sat leaned against a couch for three months to reiterate this), so I called Norbert yesterday (Friday) with hopes of getting a Monday appointment. Norbert throughly covered all the questions he needed answered PRIOR to arriving to ensure an efficient wall mount. He had me send the product information, parameters for the space, and other details and gave a conservative estimate. AND, he came by the next day (Saturday). This is critical when charges are by the hour. He saved us at least an hour worth of costs. He came in way under what we thought as a final amount. A final great touch is customer service.
