I first hired Tim about a year ago to do some custom shelving for me. Needless to say, this review is LONG overdue! If I could give him 10 stars, I would happily do so! Exactly what you want in a handyman. Tim is skilled in many facets of home repair and maintenace, does excellent work, works quickly and does so at a reasonable price. He is neat, fastidious, and detail-focused. We had him remove a glider from our patio door so he could access it for staining and finishing. It is a very heavy expensive door. He was careful and completed the job on time. The door looks fantastic. Will have him back for other jobs on our home list. read more

I appreciated Tim's early availability and honesty when he accidentally broke our water filter while replacing the filters. He admitted to having an unfortunate bad day: he started changing a light fixture but was unable to complete it; pictures hung are uneven as well. Tim was great to work with. I am building a custom home in Chicago and needed some help with a lot of odds and end carpentry to facilitate some steel placement. The job consisted of: * Demo some existing framing * Re-frame around steel * Tie steel into walls for support I had gotten a few quotes from others for the job, but decided I would go with Tim at an hourly rate. In the end, it cost me less money to pay Tim hourly to complete the job, and I think I was likely more happy in the end as I was able to go onsite with Tim and sort through a number of issues (Tim could have easily done that himself, I just enjoy working on my house). Some things I really liked about working with Tim: * He's extremely prompt, and often arrived to the site early (I've worked with so many contractors on this project, arriving when they say is rare these days) * Tim is incredibly hard working. He worked 8 hours non-stop on my project for multiple days. There was no smoke breaks, lounging around, etc - Tim's there to work and get stuff done. Far too often I see other contractors spending only 3/4 of the time actually working, this was definitely not the case with Tim! * He adapted to changes easily some things took longer, some things went quicker and Tim was super flexible and easy to work with. I never felt Tim was working slower or anything to increase his billable hours. I stopped for lunch, Tim worked straight through and had a bunch more stuff done when I returned each day. * Easy going and generally great to work with. I had some last minute things I thought Tim could help with on the last day, not a problem, Tim was happy to stay and help with some odds and end carpentry even after working for about 7 hours straight that day. When all was said and done, I was very happy with the work Tim did, and I felt it cost me less than a lot of other people would've charged and had quoted. Don't be afraid of paying him hourly, I can tell you its honestly cheaper and easier than how much bloat is built into other quotes these days. read more

You admitted to leaving a mess when you felt disrespected when I questioned why you were trying to work slower to bill me more per hour. You left not only a mess but a health hazard with the Sawdust traveling throughout my home via the hvac air conditioning system and vents!!!!! read more

Tim did two very non-routine, pain-in-the-*** jobs that I had long put off. Arrived right on time and got to work immediately. First, he installed a wooden basketball backboard and rim on an existing double pole support structure -- very challenging, and very nicely done. He then installed a replacement pump for my Endless Pool; this job required repiping because the old pump had been discontinued and the control panel on the new one was in the way of the old connection. Ally Handyman came to install an attic door. He did not install in the place I asked. Unfortunately I paid before the work was performed. The door opened directly into piping and could not be used. When I called back to have the issue of a nonfunctional door addressed my calls and voicemails were entirely ignored.
