Andy is excellent! Very honest, prompt and professional. I left a message on a Thursday night for Andy. Friday morning his office contacted me. Andy called me Friday afternoon and offered to come out between jobs and look at my issue. He fixed a Pella casement window lock in less than an hour. He also gave me a reference for a painter he works with. His rate is extremely fair and I will definitely be calling Andy first for any future work. Absolute 5 Star handyman!! read more

Called to get a quote - Left a message. Told I needed to upload pictures of project. I did that via email. Waited - Finally emailed back. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME. read more

The problem: Andersen inswing patio door very difficult to open & close. There were two problems: worn out weatherstripping gasket and need for adjustment for this complicated door. It took 2 visits to measure to the satisfaction of Andersen to correctly identify the right replacement gasket (Andersen may have as many as 20 models). Before the repairs, I had to slam the door vigorously and finish by kicking the door in order to get it closed. Thieves robbed my next door neighbor, perhaps having seen how difficult it would be to open my door! After repairs, the back door can now be opened & closed like a normal door. It has proper weatherstripping that makes it more energy efficient. Good job, difficult, but mission was accomplished. read more

Eager and enthusiastic about repairs, however, did not respond with an estimate despite several requests. Not a good sign if they are incapable of communicating delays or some other barrier that prevents completion of the job. read more

No show, no call. When I called the office they did not answer or return my call. Wasted half-day off of work. read more

I don't know about the quality of work, but the customer service is terrible. #1 I asked the to call me before going to quote a job at a friend's house. No call. #2 set up an appointment to have them come and do some work. No show!! I would avoid based on service. read more

A very responsive, small contracting company. The bid was reasonable and the project was completed on budget and met a high standard of workmanship. Andy and team made the whole process as painless as possible. read more

Hired company to install an attic stair ladder in my home. The team of Kate and David did an outstanding job. They showed on time, thoroughly explained the work to be done, and explained how the new ladder worked. They took care to cover the walls and floor around the work area, and even removed and then put back dozens of pictures I had on the wall. They vacuumed the area and took good care of my home while working. As for the ladder, they did a superb job of painting the new trim and caulking the area. I would definitely hire them again. read more

The best! Their trucks have a really nice logo design and the work they do is perfect.

Andy and his crew were fantastic and we loved working with Andy! They are on time, guarantee their work and the work is clean and professional. I promise you they will not disappointment you and they are very easy to work with and friendly. I will be calling them again for any work needed for our home. Thank you Andy for all the work you've done for our new home! read more

I hired this service to close a gap behind the kitchen stove to prevent mice from entering the apartment. I was not present for the job but my tenants are happy and told me how very satisfied they were with the entire experience. The email communication with Matt was excellent. The bill was reasonable and lower than another company's quote for the same job. I live in another state from my rental property and the payment process was professional, I've had one exterminator told me that he doesn't take credit card and I had to mail a check. This is not efficient for me, I really appreciate the credit card payment option Andy has, it makes the process quick and seamless. I would hire them again for other jobs. read more

David and Martin did an excellent job of patching drywall and plaster wall holes from a pipe refitting. I can not tell where the holes were. They worked with my budget and only painted the walls and ceiling where the holes were. They used paint matching instead of having me repaint the whole room. I definitely plan on using them again. Matt in the office responds quickly to my calls or emails. read more

The crew at Andy Sjostrom Handyman Services, especially Andy, was fantastic. My husband and I had a dormer breaking up our shower, making it impossible for anyone over 5'9" to shower. We knew we wanted a quality remodel but were reticent to hire a full blown designer. We interviewed and received quotes from several groups (including contractors, designers, and handyman services) and felt the most comfortable with Andy. His proposal was the most innovative and creative use of the space and demonstrated a firm knowledge of older homes in our area. Instead of relying on the common "well, this is just an estimate until we open the walls," Andy was quick to provide an informed opinion with solid reasoning to justify his quote. During the remodel itself, we couldn't have been happier with the service provided. Living in an older Oak Park home, taking care of property was paramount. This was also a priority to Andy. Everything was protected in a thorough manner. Andy treated our home with respect and a level of care that was beyond our expectations. The work itself was thorough and precise, consulting us frequently for our advice or preferences on numerous things. Our remodel always felt like we were involved. Furthermore, Andy was incredibly helpful in advising us on design features, something that wasn't part of his job, yet he advised regardless. He helped us talk through stains and potential designs for our custom vanity, called our medicine cabinet producer for clarification, walked us through what is common in our area for bathroom accessories and never tried to upsell us. When trying to decide how luxurious to take our shower, Andy was practical and provided pros and cons of all options. Even Matt, a project manager for the group, sat with us when we were shopping for our shower system. Every person who came into our home for the project (including carpentry, tiling, and plumbing) was professional and polite, introducing themselves to us and showing us their progress daily. Andy has been especially communicative even after the project, from checking in to see how things are working to making small adjustments and even providing recommendations for other providers in the area who can help with smaller projects outside his scope. From start to finish, every person associated with Andy Sjostrom Handyman services made it a smooth remodel. Even though the company is identified as a handyman company, this truly is a full service construction group, who we would hire for any additional remodels and recommend to friends. We feel so fortunate to have worked with this amazing organization. read more

Andy is great! He showed up on time, told us exactly what was wrong and what needed to be done. After he did the work, he explained what he did. His rates are very reasonable and we will certainly call him again. I highly recommend him! read more

Andy and his colleagues have done work a handful of times for me- minor and major repairs, building beautiful wood handrails, painting, electrical repair carpentry, installations etc. The handrails were tricky and I have had several estimates. Andy did an amazing job problem solving and finding a solution. They are great to work with, do great work, and are super good people. Andy is a really smart, earnest person who is very professional and respectful. I really enjoy working w everyone on his team. Like any good professionals they tend to get busy, but it's worth waiting to get the job done right. When you do schedule something you don't get a "appointment" aka four hours window of time. You get a time and they show up when they say they will. I also love the ease of paying the invoice via the online portal quickbook. The most clunky thing is talking to the answering service, giving them all the information every time and waiting for a call to schedule something. But it's really how most services are because it's not feasible to answer the calls while on a job and it adds a lot to the overhead to have someone in the office. If you want professional, quality work call Andy. read more

I hired Andy Sjostrom to do multiple things at my house. I saw that his ratings were all excellent, so he was the person I chose. This is his own business, and he takes a lot of pride in it. Totally knowledgeable and professional. Hire this man! I would have him back in a minute. If I need anything, he is now my go-to fellow. He takes his work very seriously, he is conscientious. I am delighted that he could get this all done. Again, very conscientious, hard working, and communicates very well and is very respectful. I was delighted when he called me to say he would be a few minutes late the second day, as he was still at Home Depot picking up wood and more drywall. I really appreciated that. I trusted him so much that I was gone from the house for much of the day, and just left him do his thing. The work done: Andy removed two older bathroom ceiling extraction fans, replacement them with new ones. He had to cut the ceiling out a bit for one of them, did the drywall patching, primed and painted both ceilings. He also repaired two walls where I recently had radiators removed (to be replaced soon) and the walls behind them were in bad shape. He fixed a kitchen cabinet door, replaced two electrical switches, and fixed a bathroom door jamb (so door wouldn't scrape the floor). Again, I will hire him back. Good business to know about. Smart, friendly, prompt, patient, and professional. In a word, excellent! I have lived in 3 different countries, 5 different states, and countless apartments and houses; and yet, despite all this moving, I remain stubbornly incompetent at most household tasks. As you can imagine then, I've had a lot of experience calling upon the help of various handymen, and with mixed results (largely disappointing). So, I wasn't expecting much when I called Andy to help me install a pendant lamp in my newest home here in Oak Park. I could not have been more wrong! After leaving a brief message with his phone service, Andy called me back within the hour not only to offer his help, but to talk me through the project on the off chance I decided to summon some courage and take a stab at it myself. I can honestly say that I could not have been more impressed with Andy and would highly recommend him to anyone with any size project in the area. He is truly exceptional! read more

Andy and his scheduler, Matt, are outstanding. Andy showed up when he was scheduled to, brings his own tools and equipment, is polite, very knowledgeable and gets the job done quickly. He recently repaired for us a bathroom vent, a lamp that hadn't worked in over a year, a kitchen light fixture (that hadn't worked correctly since we had it installed), door knobs on two doors and a bathroom lock. We will continue to call him as he is fast, efficient, arrives for the appointment on time and is easy going and friendly. I'm going to get a list going for my mom's home and hopefully get him to help her as well. He's also trustworthy - a very important characteristic to have! read more

Can't recommend highly enough. I needed some caulking done in the kitchen, a repair in the bathroom and to have a fireplace door installed. Katie came out and was AWESOME! She got through the caulking and repair in no time and then realized the door install wasn't going to be text book, so figured out a way to do it. Will definitely be calling with any future needs! read more

2 months after initial contact and still no estimate......is the job too big? You don't like Berwyn? My house? Verrrrry slow to respond.

I have used Andy and his crew for multiple projects: carpentry, installing a new door and window, plumbing, fixing a falling down fence, installing a hood over my stove, etc.. The team is reliable, professional, reasonably priced, and clean! They take great pains to clean up after they work. Andy has considerable expertise, and a good eye for design. Tony, who is a contact person / vets the jobs, is an impressive problem solver - offering a number of solutions to difficult problems. I recommend them without reservation. read more
