I'm only giving them two stars because they did manage to get my curtain rods up and to install a toilet. But here is my experience with this company. I requested that they come out to hang 5 curtain rods and to replace a toilet. I was very clear with them that the toilet needed to be hauled away for disposal. I had an appointment set for a Thursday at 8:30am. I confirmed that appointment again two days before they were due here. The night before, they told me they had another job to go to at 7am and said they would be here between 10-11am. They finally showed up at around 1:45-2pm. Because of the way the building is constructed, they had some trouble finding where to drill holes to hang the curtain rods. So in one of my rooms, I have holes in my walls that they drilled and were supposed to fix before they left. They did not. They also did not remove the toilet. So, I was stuck with a toilet sitting in my office. They were supposed to come back today, a week later, to remove it, fix the wall, and finish some other small projects. I emailed them over the weekend to confirm but didn't receive a response. They finally confirmed at 5:30am today that they would be here at 8:30. No one showed up. So I called. Goes straight to a messaging service. Left a message. Emailed them to let them know they have to be here by 8:45 so I can let them in and show them what needs to be done because I will be tied up after that. No response. Someone finally showed up at 9:30. But I had already emailed them a second time at 8:55am to say don't bother coming back. I will go to task rabbit to find someone reliable to do this work. Fortunately, in anticipation of this happening based on what happened last week, I had already gotten a junk hauler to get the toilet out of my office on Saturday. read more

My normal handyman (Chicago Handy) was booked for the next five weeks and was not taking any new job requests but they referred me to two other handyman services in the area - HandiCo and Fix It People for assistance. Fix It People never replied after their initial email requesting photos of the requested work which I felt was rude if they did not want to handle the small job of re-caulking the entire bathtub area in my bathroom. Nancy at HandiCo's office was quick in responding to my email request and scheduled me for a repair appointment 5 business days later which was great turnaround time even though, I mentioned my work request was not urgent. Andrew (nice guy) did an awesome job of re-caulking the entire bathtub area in 75 minutes. He was on time and professional. I provided the silicone caulking materials from Home Depot for his usage. I feel HandiCo has a reasonable price of $96/hour with a 2 hour minimum required + metered parking and material costs. I highly recommend HandiCo (especially Andrew) and will use them again in the future. read more

In November of 2022, I had a leaking toilet and kitchen sink leak. A HandiCo technician came twice and attempted to fix the toilet. I was told the kitchen sink leak could not be fixed without completely redoing the plumbing. I was billed $240 for the attempts to fix the toilet, but the technician only made it worse. When he claimed it was fixed, water flowed into the bathroom closet which created a different, bigger problem. I gave up on trying to repair it, so I purchased a new toilet which I had delivered to the home. I paid the $240 bill in December, even though they were not able to fix either of the leaks. I scheduled the installation with HandiCo thinking they would charge a reasonable amount to install since their multiple attempts to fix the leaking toilet failed. I purchased and had the new toilet delivered. The technician could not carry the toilet to the apartment himself, so I arranged for someone to help him. Before the toilet was installed in January 2023, I asked if there would be an additional charge for the installation. Response: "We will double check with our accounting team to see if we invoiced you for first appointment. Thank you for your patience." A technician installed the toilet, and I never heard back from anyone regarding a charge for the installation, so I figured that they had integrity and chose to do the right thing since they could not properly fix the issue that they originally billed me for and I paid. Yes, they invoiced me for the first appointment and I PAID. On August 10, 2023, I received a bill for $268.26 for installing the toilet!! Not only did they bill me 7 months after the job was complete, but I was also told why I was being billed: "$240 is for the labor and $28.26 is for materials." What materials??? I supplied the toilet! And I supplied a strong person to help carry the toilet up the stairs to the apartment for him! If they had to supply a wax ring or something small, do you think they could have thrown it in for all of the inconvenience and time?? So essentially, I am being asked to pay $508.26 for a job they couldn't do, actually made worse, and a standard toilet install. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY UNLESS YOU HAVE MONEY TO BURN! read more

I needed a handyman for a new place to add ceiling lights and replace a toilet. I thought based on ratings and location that this company would be good. I first contacted the company to ask them if they can complete these tasks. We were scheduled to do something about 8-10 days later. Things were going well at the time. My building requires contractors to complete forms such as the scope of their work and provide insurance and can take some days before the work is approved. So I provided them those emails to make sure that this wouldn't be an issue. They ignored the email, so I called them to remind them that I sent it to them. He answers the phone and says he'll check it later. He never did. I sent another email regarding questions I had regarding toilet installation, asking him if I needed to provide any other equipment/supplies to complete the installation. I once again heard nothing/no follow-ups. A week passes by or basically the day before the scheduled appointment. I then was going through my email and basically forgot at that point that I had something scheduled with them and I emailed them to tell them to cancel. They didn't fill out any paperwork or answer any question so even if I wanted to work with them I wouldn't be able to on that day. Now all of a sudden I get a call from HandiCo making some pathetic excuse that it hit their spam inbox. Isn't it a massive coincidence how like 3-4 really important emails from me supposedly hit their spam inbox but then they had zero problems reading my cancellation email? And now I am getting emails from them making new excuses as to why they couldn't get back to me. I am sorry, I gave this company the best shot I could to work with them and they didn't want to work with me or they were too lazy to answer questions or fill out forms. I have no idea what their service is like because I never got to that point but the customer service was pathetically bad to the point I had to cancel because of it. read more

If you're looking for professional handyman look no further than HandiCo. I emailed them requesting some information regarding painting my new condo and Mr. HandiCo (aka Mike) called me within an hour. He was super courteous, honest, and helpful...everything you could want in a handyman! After my call with Mike I decided to not only look into using them for painting, but wanted them to install my elfa closets from the container store as well. The container store claims the average person can install these themselves, but the container store hasn't seen my lack of handy skills. Anyway, I digress... Scott from HandiCo showed up for my free estimation right now time and he was just as helpful as Mike. He gave me his opinions on paint colors and all that other fun stuff I'm clueless on. I was completely sold on HandiCo...that was until I received their estimate a few days later. The estimate seemed a little high so I had a few other painters come in for an estimate and it seems that HandiCo's prices were double! Based on my experiences with HandiCo I have no doubt they'd do a great job and this may be one of those situations where you get what you pay for, but considering all the other costs associated with the new condo I think I"ll be going with the half priced painter! read more

I was all amped up to do some renovations after watching a couple episodes of "Windy City Rehab" but realized I didn't even own a screwdriver. Was having some problems in my three flat, some tenants were complaining about a draft and roaches getting into there apartment. Tom came over, was very professional, showed me that the tenant kicked a hole in the wall and shoved a cheeseburger in it and that was what was attracting the roaches. He put some patch stuff down, put in some weather stripping and changed a couple light bulbs for me cause I got a busted back. They took forever to reply back to me requesting a quote. They said my original request went to their "spam" folder. After reading a few of these reviews now, that seems to be an ongoing excuse they use. I went ahead and moved forward with them anyway. They agreed to arrive at 9am to repair a few odds and ends items in my company office. They emailed me at 11pm the night before they were scheduled asking me if they could come in later in the day. I replied the morning of advising them what time I would be in the office until and asked them to specify the time they were now going to come. No response. I called and left a voicemails asking if they were still coming. No response. I emailed one last time prior to me leaving for the day. No response. Totally ghosted us. Way to run a business! We hired Handico to help us with our kitchen renovation (just completed in May 2021) for the demolition part. (The company we bought cabinets and countertops from only does installs). This our third time working with Handico for different household repairs/projects. The previous two times turned out great, so we had no hesitation calling them for this job. Working with Joe to set up the dates and the work to be done was easy... all over the phone, with some images shared via email. Since Handico works on a time-and-material basis (ie hourly rate), it really makes arranging the work so much easier (in my opinion, anyway). We needed the following done: (1) Take down and remove all existing cabinets and counter tops, (2) remove the soffit that the upper cabinets were anchored to, (3) patch-up where the soffit used to be, and other areas as needed, (4) relocate electrical outlets for the range and Microwave hood, (5) hook up new plumbing to the new sink. Joe was very keen to our needs; he even sent one of his guys over to check the soffit as an "advance scout" to eliminate any surprises and secrets the soffit may be hiding (it turned out to be empty). Joe also requested the drawings and spec sheet of our new kitchen provided by the cabinet company to ensure that the area is properly prepped. He definitely knew what needed to be done. The work: Joe sent Luis to tackle the job. While a 2nd guy came aboard to help with the demo, Luis was clearly the guy in charge. Luis was very professional and he knows his trade very very well. I'll try to attach some pictures to show what was done. Whenever possible, Luis would ask what needed to be asked. When necessary, Luis would pull me aside and explain what he needed to do. And when I wasn't catching on, Luis was also very patient with me. I did my best to stay out of his way. In the end, Luis and Handico left the site how it needed to be. The day after, our Cabinets were installed uneventfully. Not a single complaint from the installers. The upper cabinets were mounted where the soffit used to be. Base cabinets were put in. All cabinets were cut out for new plumbing and outlets; perfectly placed by Luis the day before. Aside from the fact that we discovered my walls aren't square (typical for a home built in 1949), the whole project went without a hitch. Luis did come back to finish the plumbing after the sink and countertops were put in. Handico delievered! This was definitely a big job. While I can't say it was stress-free (hey, it's still a kitchen reno), I couldn't be any happier on the end result. And without Handico, it wouldn't have turned out the way it did. We will hire them again in the future. Oh yeah, the Cabinet people were great, too... but that's for a different review. read more

This is the second time we have used HandiCo and were so pleased with our choice to use their services again! We used their online request form, which was answered within hours, and our appointment was booked within the week. For this project we had two bathroom exhaust fans replaced/installed and repairs to duct connections in the kitchen and laundry room (see pics). Demond arrived on time, explained how each project would be completed and took care to protect our rooms & appliances (drop cloths, vacuuming). Because we purchased exhaust fans larger than the original opening, with our permission, Demond cut and patched the drywall for the new fan (see pic). His work is impeccable, the repair looks great even before painting! HandiCo's hourly rate is a little more than other handyman services, but well worth it. I am getting my old house ready to have renters move in and wanted to fix a number of things in anticipation of their arrival. My serviceman was extremely knowledgeable competent and fast. I asked him to do about 10 small jobs. A couple of them he suggested something different than what i had originally thought and that made a lot of sense and saved me time and money. Jobs including putting on a new shower head, fixing some laminate under a garden window, and adding a railing to a staircase. Everything was done professionally and quickly. I used six hours of his time and about $300 of materials so it was not cheap but it was done much more competently and faster than I could have done any of it myself. I used Handico a few years ago for various projects around the home and I had to use them again. Let me first say that most people want to watch a YouTube video on how to repair something or make it look good. Those videos make it seem super easy, but the reality is something far, far different. I value my weekend time - and time away from work. I also value a job well done and a project handled in a manner in which I will not have to worry about it again. That is why I hire HandiCo for tasks that I know are beyond my skill level. Those YouTube videos are done by professionals, and even when you try to do in the same way they do, it never ends up looking right. I had HandiCo fix hole in the wall after I tried to do it myself. My attempt, while it was the best I could do, was weak. HandiCo came in a fixed my problem and made the wall look like new. The paint job matched up and I couldn't have been happier. We had a great experience with HandiCo. After staring at some weird drywall damage near our shower for about a year, we finally got to the point where we wanted it fixed. Small problem: we had no idea how to fix it. We made one attempt that was completely unsuccessful. So we called HandiCo and e-mailed a photo of the weird spot. He was able to come over by the end of the week, explained what the issue was and fixed it. We painted the area ourselves to save some money. The price wasn't bad at all and I'll certainly call them again if I'm ever scratching my head over a home repair issue. read more

Ok I will say that these guys totally ROCK. I live in a house in Lakeview that needed just a bunch of small and/or medium things fixed and redone. Now I love my husband, but he's really not the handyman type. Don't get my wrong but its not something he LOVES to do but can do smaller stuff. For ladies out there that are single or weren't blessed with a handy hubby, HANDICO is for you. I've talked to Scott, Andy, Mike and all of them are really nice. I had plumbing work done, caulking like my entire bathroom, they refinished the front portch and back deck (I mean, resanded, and repainted everything), I had a ceiling repair to the drywall, I even had them touch up all the paint after we moved out. Absolutely everything they did was AMAZING. They were fast and they did not try and rob me on the estimates. Price wise, I think they are fair and certainly better than most from a value standpoint. Never again.... Never again will I go anywhere else when it comes to fixing my home. These guys are it. I wanted to put some more outlets in my basement so I call Handico. Mike, the scheduler, actually suggests that I can save money by doing it on my own and then tells me how to do it all and what to buy. I say no, I'd rather have it done and not deal with the headache. Mike says ok and that an electrician will be at the home between 11-1. That happened to be the best decision. Andy, the electrician, shows up at 11:05! He sees what needs to be done, realizes that it's going to be a LOT more work than anticipated, and proceeds to haul ass. I'm serious, the dude shuffled back and forth to his truck to get tools, trying everything he could to save me some money. Great guy. So he finishes a lot more work in the same amount of time I expected in the first place, and perfectly. The bill wasn't bad, pretty much what I expected. SUGGESTIONS: - Buy the materials needed for the guys to work with, it will save you time ( = labor). 5 stars are relative - i'm comparing this to any other handyman/contracting service (which in my experience are generally confusing and terrible). However, I'd probably give 4 to Handico regardless. They were very communicative, prompt, friendly, and trustworthy. Also the pricing was spot on with the estimate. They came to fix my buzzer system and got the job done in an hour. Unfortunately later we learned that, in fixing our system, we had inadvertently damaged our neighbor's. Handico keeps things niiiice and simple. And I shall follow suit. Here's what happened. After being stood up by my bone-headed "handyman" for the eight thousandth time, I decided to try a new guy. I own a few apartment buildings here in town and I need, you know, "a guy." So I called Handico. From then on things went very smoothly. I chatted immediately with a receptionist (very nice), was called back by one of the partners (very professional), made an appointment, they came a few days later, on time (15 minutes early), and did all the work professionally. I mean, what could be bad right? Now, let's be honest. They will charge you about 15-20% more than a smaller-time guy. But for that premium, you get "good work" done by people who "speak English" and "do what they say." You will also never catch these guys "eating your tenants' food on the job if left unsupervised," or "installing a furnace with no access to an air filter." All true stories. Is it worth the premium? That's of course up to you. All I know for sure is that Handico is a rare breed in the world of handymen: reliable, and competent. read more

I called HandiCo because I wanted a new circuit added to my breaker box. They actually showed up early and finished the job quickly and under the estimated cost!!! They did a beautiful job and were extremely friendly and professional. The technician, Andy, even answered some additional questions that I had. Andy's knowledge and expertise are astounding!!! These guys are the best and there is no doubt that if I ever need any more work done, HandiCo will be the first and only call I make. And, it happened! I decided to have yet another circuit added to fill up my breaker box. Why not, right? A different technician came this time but he was equally as professional. I've used HandiCo several times for plaster repair. Each time, they came on site to evaluate and gave a clearly outlined estimate. The work was undertaken professionally - they showed up on time, brought their own supplies, moved and covered my furniture and quickly/efficiently fixed the plaster. In these instances, the repair took place on a wall and a section of ceiling (two leaks occurring at different times). Each repair cost about $600 and included plastering and a primer coat. They would also have painted using my preferred color, however, insurance was paying for these repairs and did not cover wall paint. I've been using HandiCo for my handiman needs for the past seven years. This included building a fireplace mantle, general electrical work, plumbing, leak testing/diagnostic and repair, and other jobs I wasn't comfortable doing myself. HandiCo is very professional, the people they employ are skilled tradesman, not weekend handimen. They are always on time, courteous, thoughtful about not creating a mess around the house. Because they are so good, they are always busy, so sometimes it takes a few days for them to send someone in, and occasionally over a week if you want a specific person that is already familiar with your house. They cost $88 an hour, min 2 hours, which is a bit on the high side, but in this business you mostly get what you pay for. read more

Once again, Handico has met my high expectations. Deamohn (not sure of spelling) was SUPER friendly and VERY quick and efficient. In and out within less than an hour. They had a slight glitch...not all the parts came in that they ordered (had to come back a second time) and they apologized and worked with our schedule. Very nice, very handy indeed. I do not want to even give one star after all the headaches Handico caused me. I hired them to lay two new bathroom floors, and paint the bathrooms. I was so patient with this company, even after they installed a brand new bathroom floor completely un level. They had to re-do the tiled bathroom floor as it was off by over an inch (the old floor I was replacing WAS level ~ I saw them remove the old leveling compound and they did not bother to make it level.) THEN they proceeded to ruin both of the new marble bathroom floors that they had installed. They used an acidic product that HONED the polished tile. All the polish is gone ! Then they would not even come back to trim the bathroom door that had not been trimmed. The new floor tile was thicker than the old floor tile. In one bathroom they trimmed the door, the other bathroom they did not. When asked to remedy this (VERY simple, not time consuming task) they would not do it ! After ALL the mess ups and unprofessional work, I presume since they knew I would likely not hire them again ... then why bother to remedy the situation. The only gain of course would have been I would not have bothered with a review had they fixed the door because I never do these reviews, and don't like focussing even for this long on negative things, But THEY were right, I would never recommend them, nor hire them again. Some of the workers were skilled but the coordinating GC was VERY poor at communicating with them and the work was not up the quality you would expect from anyone redoing a bathroom floor. read more

In Chicago, it is difficult to find a service as good as HandiCo Inc.. I had heat coils & cable put in on 2 roofs. They put in an exterior power source for one roof The job was done in less than 4.5 hours. I couldn't be more pleased with their work! Matt did the estimate. Andy and Deman did the work. I finally found a trustworthy straight-forward maintenance solution. I had Handico come out to take a look at some potential shower work and window frame work. After determining they wouldn't be able to help out with the shower, they gave an estimate of time and cost for the window work. Since they were unable to help out with the shower work, there was no charge for the visit. Currently have them scheduled to come out and perform the window frame repair. Joe was great and called me to discuss my project and potential alternatives. I ended up having drywall repaired as well as a few odd jobs in between the drying times. The 2 crew members ran into some unforeseen material issues, but both were very friendly and professional. The end result was very good.
