High winds blew down part of my backyard fence, and another part of it already needed repair. Lots of people were in the same situation, and one highly reviewed company said it would take 2 to 3 weeks to get service. Instead, Alex was out the next morning, and fixed the fence, did a little necessary tree trimming, and made the fence stronger than before (with cement bases for the posts, and a few extra reinforcements). First off, thank god for yelp. This is where I found Alex to repair or replace my wood gate. He showed up when he said he would and if you read any of the other reviews then you guessed correctly there was a bit of a language barrier. Was it a problem? Heck no, google translate can help with any major language in the world. He left after inspecting my gate and I expected him to text me a quote for labor and materials. I thought he was not coming back and went for a jog. About an hour and a half after he left he shows back up at my house with all of the necessary material to do the job. Okay, so I'm thinking he is just dropping everything off; no he showed up to complete the job. He rebuilt my 6ft gate in a little over 2 hours! He is a damn hard worker that I would not hesitate to rehire. So yes, I highly recommend his quality workmanship. He stayed at my place till 11:20pm! read more

Tl;dr Alex is great! Very friendly and collaborative in coming up with a fix, punctual and fast, and very reasonable prices! Would definitely work with Alex again! ===== We moved into a place where two of the bedroom doors couldn't close. One of them dragged on the ground at the bottom, and the other hit the doorframe at the top. I sent these photos over to Alex along with my description of the problem and he was extremely responsive and easy to work with to coordinate a time and estimated price range. On the day of the appointment he arrived right on time and got to work straight away. The initial fix wasn't what we had in mind, but he worked with our feedback well to get a fix that everyone was happy with in the end. Fixing both doors took him maybe an hour, and now both doors close super well! He even fixed the door stopper that was broken on one of them, and replaced some of the screws on the door hinges! His charge for the fix also ended up being lower than the initial estimated range, and it was very straightforward to pay him online. He was super prepared and had all sorts of tools with him, so we didn't have to wait a long time for him to go retrieve tools or materials or anything, which I've encountered with other contractors. I also really appreciate that he removed his shoes before coming into our home; I'm guessing he saw that we weren't wearing shoes and that all the shoes were by the door, but this was a very thoughtful gesture on his part that I didn't even have to ask him about, and I think it's representative of his kind personality and customer-focused work ethic. As far as nitpicks go, there was a small communication snafu where I had cleared a space for him to do some sanding, but he ended up doing it somewhere else. It wasn't a big deal, but I'd try to be clearer in my communication next time. He has a great translation app so more nuanced communication in person wasn't too difficult (and communication via message was seamless), but just something to keep in mind when communicating in person. read more

The front leg of my 30yrs old chaise broke as it was being used last week. No one was hurt but it's a loved piece of furniture that I wanted fixed as soon as possible. Alex was a pleasure to work with. He fixed my chaise promptly, and treated my home with respect. Pella no longer supplies parts and so far Alex Star Service has been unsuccessful in finding a fix. Alex Star service asked why I rated his service 3 star. Had Alex Star service successfully repaired the mechanism, that success would earn 5 stars. As no success occurred, I could have rated the project a zero, but Olexsander was pleasant, went out of his way be helpful but could not find a fix or a workaround. 3 is better than zero. read more

So my shower door I thought was in need of replacement. In a panic I ran to yelp for recommendations. Alex came up first as he is local. Contacted him with pictures and descriptions. He said he could be there in an hour. Told him next day would be fine. I actually wound up fixing shower door (amazing what happens when wife is upset) and no longer needed him to repair it.
