I used Chi Renovation to upgrade my primary bathroom. The design process was a big lengthened, especially since I had a clear idea of what I wanted. I was working with a more junior designer, and replies were sometimes delayed. Once we got into build phase, the process ran really smoothly. I worked primarily with Daniel who was coordinating everything, and he was very communicative. Everyone who worked on the project (tiling, plumbing, electrical) was prompt and attentive. There was a small snag at the end where my heated floors weren't heating. Daniel made sure to get the electrician, tiling professional, and heated floor professional on site to quickly identify the problem and remedy. We used Chi Renovation & Design for our basement remodel (after a pretty bad flood), and am thrilled with how things came out. After we worked through the design aspects, it was time to get started on the build. When it comes down to it, the most important piece from my experience is working with a general contractor that cares, takes ownership of the project, and is fast to rectify issues that inevitably arise when renovating. I can safely say that Ron, who was the GC that managed our project embodied all of those qualities. I never had to prove to Ron why we may have needed something changed, fixed, or reworked; not only was he often already aware of it, he always took responsibility and got it done. He was always fair. Beyond that ownership, the subcontractors that work with Chi Reno & Design were excellent, especially the drywall and painter folks. Honestly, by far the best paint work that has been done on our house. To that end, the value of the work done was well worth the (reasonable) price. We used Chi Renovation for updates to the main bath and kitchen of our (new-to-us) 1950s era home. The designer we worked with - Julie - brought her own ideas and expertise while still making the process flexible and collaborative. The final design meshed nicely with the surrounding existing elements. I'd worked with the project manager - Ron - once before on a previous home. He was the reason we went to Chi Reno for this new project. He's a strong communicator and a creative problem solver. For example, during demo, we learned that the soffit above the shower was hollow, and he recommended we knock it out for some free added height. Or knowing we have young kids, he suggested swapping out the shower fixture we'd chosen for a hydro-rail in the same finish, which has since been very useful during the kids' bathtime. The subcontractors he used were all professional and detail-oriented as well. The project stayed on budget and largely stayed on schedule, with the exception of some doors we were replacing. They had a long lead time to begin with, plus there were some refinishing delays on the one that we needed stained to match others in the same hallway. But the final products look great, so they were worth the wait! Overall, we've been very pleased with the updates to these two areas we use on a daily basis. read more

I hired Chi Renovation for a bathroom remodel last year. Working with Julie H on the design and materials was a nightmare. After two great introductory meetings, she became unresponsive and when she did give updates, they were vague and she forgot several tasks or requests altogether. It somehow took her six months to price and order materials, most of which were available through websites like Amazon and Home Depot. During the three month construction period, she only checked in with me twice. The contractor and crew were awesome, they worked hard and paid great attention to detail. Chi Renovation did an amazing job on our basement project. We wanted a modern and fun, but mature space that would be fitting for the whole family as the basement is our family lounge space. We had a rectangular brick structure in our basement that we had to work with and envisioned building a children's play area where our children could enjoy and also grow into and not feel it would be too child-like as they get older. There was also an under the staircase area where we wanted an update from having a simple IKEA awning and a white pole to something more fun and scenic along with a little library and reading room. Additionally, we wanted to replace a wall of toys with a beverage bar and build shelves for our sliding door area. Chi Renovation executed excellently. When adults and children enter the basement, they are amazed. We first worked w/Mike who was super personable and demonstrated interest & passion for the project. He was very professional, responsive and attentive on the initial scoping, contracting and initial project design. He also went above and beyond with his design input during his hand off to Julie who led the final design stage. Julie introduced us to an outstanding, stylish back splash for our beverage bar along w/crafting very well designed kids play areas containing the best color, tone and feel we were hoping to achieve for our space. Ron was the Project Manager for construction, as he led the build team from start to finish and impressed us from Day 1 of our introductory meeting. He came to the meeting very prepared, organized, detailed and driven towards the completion of the project. Maximum 8 months Chicago condo renovation turned into 14 months+ badly managed with poor implementation. The project was disorganized and sloppy with no particular timeline or project plan on top of very bad communications. Maximum profit was the only priority. Contract was constantly being ignored in favor of additional change orders. Client's concerns were mostly ignored. Most of the hired hands were handymen who might not have been qualified to work with some finished materials. "Professionals", when required by the building were hired for a couple hours a day which causes long and costly delays. Chi Renovation tends not to correct mistakes, even when exposed early during construction. Examples: Informed PM several times about things that needed to be corrected (electrical not done per drawing with switches behind door, no electrical box for cooktop [retrofitted after cabinet install], microwave outlet in different part of appliance cabinet). Some work was worst than others like uneven tiles, sloppy grouting, crooked corners, bad install of pocket door, etc.). They constantly ignore or try to gaslight instead of correcting mistakes. Cabinets in general were lower quality than paid for, some with warped doors. Wrong appliance kitchen cabinet was ordered, and ignored that fact. There was no occasional onsite project supervision by anyone else from the company for such large project. The PM seemed not to know when/how to inspect/review completed work to make sure it's to specs or standards. Unqualified handymen were allowed to do work outside their capability, which yielded to shoddy and damaging results on many occasions. In the end, we opted to pay them the final amount and get this unpleasant experience in the rearview mirror. read more

We renovated two full baths, and a one half-bath in our condo with Chi Renovation. (We lived in our place while the work was done, so it was done successively, one bath at a time). We started our process by getting estimates from 3 companies in the area to compare services and cost. Chi Renovation was the one with the highest cost, but we liked that they had an integrated approach with the designer and execution team both in the same contract/company. The other contractors that provided quotes offered to refer us to designers, but those would be independent. It seemed to us that having the designer and execution together would offer the smoothest experience and an easier path to solve any unexpected issues that might come up later in the project. Now, having completed the project a few months ago, we are happy with our choice. Julie was our designer and she did a great job of listening to our preferences/likes/dislikes to generate initial drafts and then taking our feedback to modify it until we were happy with it. She also provided great choices of materials for everything to be used (tiles, counters, mirrors, etc). Ron was the project manager and he was great. He kept us informed of work happening and planned in the short term, he was also quick to act when things didn't go as planned (delays in parts, or work taking longer than expected). There are a number of trades needed in the project (electrician, plumber, framing, etc) and scheduling them efficiently can be a challenge, so there were days when no work happened, but we were informed of it. He was also very good at solving unexpected things like a countertop that arrived broken, a few missing pieces, a heavier than expected bathtub or a few things that didn't look as expected. Moreover, he was quick to have any collateral damage in the hallways/walls/stairs (due to the work itself or damage when carrying big pieces in and out) repaired without us having to request or argue for it. Workers in the project seemed to be a mix of direct employees (more general tasks) and sub-contractors (electricians, plumbers, other specialized tasks) but all of them were respectful, worked clean and during the expected hours. As an added plus, we had no complaints from anybody in our building related to the project. Overall the project was on-time and on-cost (we paid exactly the amount shown in our initial contract). Our place was as clean and livable as possible during the renovations. And not less important, we are very happy with the end result, they did quality work that looks beautiful and works well. All in all, we ended up as a happy customer and we are happy to recommend them to others. read more

We finally got the gaping hole patched that Ron Lifshitz and Chi Renovation left by our master bathroom vanity. This was supposed to be an 'access panel' to our steam shower motor but it extended way below the top of the vanity. No planning or measuring as per usual for Chi Renovation. The contractor we hired to do the work correctly, had to remove wall baseboards, disconnect vanity plumbing and slide the master bath double sink vanity out to patch the 4 foot by 2 foot hole they left. Just egregious negligence from this company. The inch of caulk above the crown molding in our kitchen from their uneven dry wall work is already separating. Please go elsewhere if you want any work done even mediocre. read more

Over the last two years, Chi Renovation has helped us transform our home. We have had two large projects managed and delivered by Chi. We gutted three bathrooms (primary, on suite, guest), refinished our kitchen cabinets, changed all the kitchen stone work, added a second island, removed a wall and re-tiled our front porch. The work completed by Chi was excellent and definitely met our expectations. Our project manager, Tom, was excellent to work with. He spent hours with us going over design choices, explaining engineering elements, providing examples of similar work and helping us throughout both projects. Our first project with Chi started during the pandemic. We gutted our guest bathroom and made kitchen upgrades (including replacing counters, backsplashes, and fixtures). Tom helped us through all the major decisions and the end results were excellent. In February 2021, (after the epic Chicago snow storm), our kitchen ceiling collapsed from water damage. This event kicked off the second project with Chi. First off, Tom and Chi were with us every step of the way to help with stopping the water leak, remediating the problem and then ultimately incorporating fixing our kitchen along with additional work in our second project (two bathrooms, kitchen, front porch). It is extremely hard to know who to trust in the contracting business. Before working with Chi, we talked to friends and reviewed multiple websites. We ultimately picked Chi Renovation because their online reviews were great (and specific) and our first walkthrough with Tom to discuss our potential project was impressive. He was thorough, had great ideas and really cared about what changes/work would add value versus what would not. After two large projects, multiple accomplishments, countless changes and obstacles, we are beyond happy with the outcome and work delivered. I used Chi Renovation & Design to remodel my guest bathroom, and would highly recommend them to others. I ended up going with them because they were the most punctual, professional, and organized throughout the consultation & estimate process, and I liked that they were a combined design-build firm, so the project manager (in my case, Ron) would see the whole project through from start to finish. Plus, their estimate was in line with others, and they came highly recommended by a co-worker who'd recently worked with them. I'd intended to do the remodel in June but then had to push the timeline back to the fall, which they were able to accommodate without an issue. Other things I appreciated were that: the team cleaned up the work area at the end of each day, so I never walked into a mess after work, and I pestered Ron with tons of questions and ideas throughout the process, and he was always quick to provide helpful guidance or answers. The project itself (punchlist excluded) took closer to 4 weeks than the 3 originally planned, but I'd call that an on-time finish for any contractor. As for the project outcome: the bathroom used to have a tiny (32"x32"!) shower, ugly beige tile that was difficult to clean, and an even uglier glass block window. We worked with CHI renovations on a major kitchen remodel and we are very happy with the result. To give you an idea of the scope of the project, we had to remove walls, reroute a main water line pipe, completely redo electrical, reroute HVAC, extending a ceiling, building an island, ... basically a complete gut and remodel. The whole process took about three months and the demo with remodeling taking roughly 1 and 1/2 months. We first met up with the kitchen designer Mishneeta Chopra where we were asked to provide examples of kitchens that we really like. We really appreciate Mishneeta coming up with multiple designs that exceeded our expectations because we have not idea what kind of kitchen we wanted. Mishneeta also helped us with material selections and provided suggestions on what goes well with the design. Another huge reason we went with Chi Renovation was that we did not want the hassle of finding, hiring, and managing contractors. Our project manager Gene made sure the process was as smooth as possible. From bringing in the demo crew, plumbers, electricians, carpenter, painter...etc, all of these things were handled by him. I can't imagine how difficult it would have been to have to deal with this stuff ourselves. It was also nice that Gene also inspected the work that was done by contractors and made sure it was done correctly and to our liking. The only minor complaint is we would have liked more communication on contractor scheduling. For example, it would have been nice to get a weekly schedule instead of just a few days notice. It ended up working out well because we worked from home the whole time, but I could maybe see this being a potential issue for those that do not have that option. Overall, we would definitely recommend CHI renovations (and already have to family and friends!). We looked at many other places that could have been a little cheaper but no way it would have been the same quality. I called this company on Saturday, October 27th and was scheduled for a consultation/estimate today, November 5th. Given that no one called by quarter after my scheduled appointment time, I called to follow up and was told "we received an email from you on October 19th stating that you no longer needed our services." LOL/Really?? I emailed you 8 days before scheduling this consultation to say that I didn't need the consultation? (True story: some people don't think before speaking) After a bit of mindless back and forth attempting to get a simple answer to the "am I on the schedule for today?" question, I was informed I was not based on the above--although the story changed to "we hired a new girl...". Blah, blah, blah. Whatever the case, simple details seem to be beyond this company's--or at least their receptionists'--grasp. Beyond that, this is the only company I called for a consultation/estimate that thought it wise to have the receptionist ballpark my renovation estimate at ~80K (for a small kitchen and bath) without my having provided any measurements or any meaningfully specific details about my desired project. BOTTOM LINE: None of the above inspires my confidence or interest in the company and I'll avoid it resultantly. Obviously, there are many who laud this company, but the front-end incompetence is my barrier to entry. Based on the above AND below? I suggest you avoid it as well. 11/8/18 Update: Someone named Julia (likely at the behest of someone higher up) thought it would be a good idea to drop by my home uninvited and unannounced to "apologize" for the above incident. Not only did she talk her way past my building's front desk with a "gift basket delivery," but also she was repetitively knocking on my door (and still thought I'd be up for a chitchat regarding the above) when I had literally just stepped out of the shower. I suppose someone might appreciate this gross invasion of privacy approach, but I did/do not. I did not provide my personal information to this company so that I could be harassed and this company's level of inappropriateness is now firmly off the charts. If I could give negative stars? I wouldn't hesitate to do so. RESPONSE TO BUSINESS COMMENT: If my "account" was marked as closed, then I should not have been able to schedule an appointment, correct? Whatever the case, it should be concerning when an office manager is "confused" by a scheduled appointment that post-dates a supposing closing of an "account"--even more so when no one reached out to me prior to the scheduled appointment time to question or correct the issue your own company created. I had to call you after my scheduled appointment time was missed to find out I was wasting my time and, during that same call, made it clear that I did not want to be contacted again (which should enlighten you as to why you received no response to whatever calls you made?). Finally, you may laud an individual that lied her way into my building to invade my privacy with a basket full of things I don't even like (based on someone's misinterpretation of my years old reviews), but I don't laud her or your efforts as I specifically requested to not be contacted again. Respecting my wishes in the name of customer service should have been the beginning and end of this bad experience, and your company's ongoing inability to hear, help, and respect me should be informative for others regarding their choice to utilize your business. read more

Just finished renovating my guest bathroom with Chi Renovation and had a great experience. I worked with Tanya (designer) and Eric (project manager) and both were great. We had some hiccups due to COVID-related delays and I appreciated that both of them stayed on top of it. What I liked most was that when the one or two minor things went wrong Eric made it right before I could even mention it. One reason I chose them is that they have experience working in high-rise buildings and this is important as there are restrictions on noise, work hours, elevators, etc and they were well aware of all of this and worked within the parameters so that I had no complaints from my building or my neighbors. I want to preface this by saying I did not use them for my kitchen remodel, but only because their specialty is gut rehabs and I'm just looking for a minor facelift. My wife and I were looking for a bathroom remodel from a jacuzzi tub that took up 3/4s of our main bathroom, to a walk in shower. We wanted something done with a reasonable budget, professionally, and timely. Chi Renovation was our solution. Toufic helped us find the perfect design and worked with us every step of the way, making life easier for two working professionals on the go. Gene ran the operation professionally, walked me through any questions I had, addressed all my concerns, and ran a top notch team throughout the process. He hit the budget and the time frame that was promised as well as making sure the project was built on solid foundations. I cannot recommend the company, Toufic, or Gene highly enough. This is my second review of the Chi Renovation and Design. It speaks volumes that I chose the same company to remodel my master bathroom. It was a very extensive and involved down to the studs kind of remodeling. There was a lot of plumbing, shower and bathtub placement changes, tile work, fixtures to name a few things. To start, Tom Tishbey is amazing to work with. He is strait forward, honest, and very inventive. Tom is excellent in dealing with the HOA and building management. His best feature is his ability to come up with multiple creative and ingenious options to fix the initial plan, when unforeseen obstacles come up, and they always 100% will. Tom gives you a best and worst case scenario, doesn't make promises he can not keep, is very responsive and communicative. He was able to finish my remodeling project as pandemic and quarantine created extremely difficult conditions. I couldn't say enough to recommend him. The project itself involved removing all the old tile, huge bathtub, shower, double vanity, toilet and bidet, and partial walls. Shower and bathtub switched places. Floor standing toilet and bidet were replaced by wall mounted. A linen closet was removed to increase the shower size, and a regular door was replaced by a pocket door. Floor to ceiling large format 48x48" porcelain tiles covered all the walls and floors. Free standing tub on pedestal with overhanging chandelier and towel warmer wall rack took the place of the old shower. Wall mounted double vanity, back lit mirrors and light fixtures replaced regular floor standing double vanity with a huge mirror. New shower with three different fixtures and bench, mosaic marble floor, niches with glass shelves, invisible glass panels and door replaced the old bathtub and linen closet. The workers did an amazing job. Pictures are worth a thousand words. Tom was able to understand my vision and bring it into reality. The company is well worth the money they charge. Living in a condo building, one has to be very careful in selecting companies for major remodeling. Tom and Chi Remodeling have done multiple projects in my building alone, all based on their reputation and recommendations of very satisfied customers. I definitely recommend them.
