Warning: Do not hire this contractor! From day one, the owner (Ilan Shahar) spoke to me in a disrespectful and unprofessional manner. He repeatedly threatened to walk off the job when things didn't go his way, and eventually did--leaving the project unfinished halfway through construction. He even tried to discredit me by claiming I was yelling at his crew, despite the fact that I have video and audio recordings of him yelling and using profanity at me while I maintained politeness. I was left scrambling with tenants displaced in a hotel while he abandoned the work. Save yourself the stress and money--look elsewhere. read more

Ilan and his team at Chicago Constructions were professional, straightforward, and delivered excellent results. I had a broken shower pan but wasn't ready for a full bathroom remodel. They built a beautiful new tiled shower base and skillfully blended the tiling, even without access to the original tiles for the bottom rows. They also preserved my existing shower door, which I appreciated. I'm extremely happy with the outcome and would gladly hire them again. Unlike other contractors I spoke with, they never pressured me into a bigger remodel, which made the experience even better. read more

Chicago Constructions - General Contractors Near Me

I purchased a coop and will be doing multiple jobs over the next two years - including a new bathroom and kitchen. I was starting with a smaller job first involving multiple carpentry related items. It's a good way to assess whether I'd use the contractor again for the more complex kitchen and bath. My HOA must approve any contractor before work commences and requires that they be licensed in Chicago, Insured, and bonded. Chicago Partners claims to be so on their website and confirmed that to me in person. IIan was very charming, knowledgeable, and initially quite responsive. His quote was detailed and helpfully assigned a dollar amount per task, as I'd requested. Unfortunately, as another reviewer noted, the proposal included language that would waive and indemnify Chicago Construction for any damage, harm, or injuries etc. that Chicago Construction might cause in the course of their work. I spoke to IIan about this and he said he was a lawyer and wrote it himself. I'm certain he did. I managed a contracts office doing over $300 million in business each year - none of my staff would ever approve a waiver that puts 100% of the risk on the client for harm that a contractor might cause. I asked IIan what was the point of requiring a contractor be bonded and insured was if I was going to waive their responsibility anyway? I told him my association wouldn't approve such a waiver. I asked him to strike the language and also to reduce the tasks in the quote. Unfortunately, I never heard back from him. This was in July. I used another contractor to complete the project and am now taking bids for the bathroom. I will not seek a bid from this company. read more

I called Chicago Constructions and spoke with Ian to have some work done on my daughter's bathroom. She needed a large backlit mirror installed with electrical and old mirror removed. i was so impressed he could start the job the very next day. Not only did they finish in 1 day, but added hanging 2 canned lights, patch & paint and removed all debris. They were friendly, accommodating and efficient. I would highly recommend this company to everyone. read more

Ilan and his team have been remodeling and improving our house for many years over several projects including new kitchen, master bath, general updating and painting. Our family has been very pleased with the high quality of their work and attention to detail. The finishes have been very pleasing and we get compliments on the work all the time. His pricing is competitive and the craftsman who do the work are easy to get along with during long major projects. Ilan's team is the only one we will use for future remodels and I highly recommend him and his company. read more

I live in a high rise, which makes contractor work a bit more technical (drilling into concrete, working with metal studs, dealing with HOA's, etc). Ian and his team did a quality job on the installation of custom sliding doors that closed off my den area at a very reasonable price. It can be hard to find contractors who value meaningful project planning communication and do high quality work. This team was one of them. read more

Ilan an team did a great job expanding our 2nd floor and adding a bedroom in the vaulted ceiling area above our kitchen. His team worked quickly and solved problems as they came up without delaying the overall project. Ilan was very respectful of our timeframe and concerns prior to construction. Overall Ilan's team did an outstanding job and I would recommend and use again in the future. read more

We had our wallpaper installer fall through the night prior to our date, and Ian and his team were able to help in very short time! He hopped on the phone with me after looking at some photos, and had a quote and someone lined up for 7am the next day within the hour. Alberto who did the work was timely, professional, and very communicative throughout the installation. He produced great results for some custom shelving we were having installed per the photos. The overall quality, convenience and level of service were great. Would definitely work with them again! read more

We hired this team (Ilan, Sam) to build and wall and install a door after getting quotes from a few different contractors. This was the middle-price option. The project was eventually completed and generally looks okay (not perfect, but not bad). Overall, I wouldn't hire them again, but I work in design and have slightly higher standards than most! There were a few things that went wrong in the process that may be helpful to share: (1) Their team failed to install drywall tape at the top of the new wall (drywall install basics), which resulted in the wall separating from the ceiling as temp/humidity fluctuated. They came back to fix it at no cost, but this was a big error that should've been caught the first time around. Our bedroom was covered in dust twice (vs. just once)! (2) I provided a very simple sketch for how they should finish the top of a short wall, and Sam acted like he understood it. He definitely didn't, which is fine - but he could've asked more (or any) questions. The initial result was very sloppy even by a non-designer's standards, and I unfortunately had to ask them to redo it. (3) The project took twice as long as they said it would, even before the missing drywall tape was discovered later. This is typical of most contractors, but it's always a bummer. read more

I need to take a minute of your time to say that your company has changed--and not for the better. Taking almost a month to fix a broken window and charging $750 is highway robbery, especially when you're not even using the same quality glass you used before. Sixteenth-of-an-inch thinner? It looks like garbage to me. You've lost your base. Chris, don't expect a call from me ever again. read more

Needed assistance with a plumbing-related drywall repair. Danny got the job done in a timely way and to an excellent standard. Estimate was on the higher side and did not get revised downward when the project took significantly less time than expected. Absolutely no complaints about the timeliness or the quality of the work, but the hourly cost for the repair work was quite high. read more

I had them come out to repair a dishwasher that came disconnected in my kitchen. Anthony came out for a quote shortly after I reached out on Yelp, and then they sent Lorenzo out to fix it about a day later. The fix was simpler than we'd realized once Lorenzo took a look at it and instead of doing any sort of make-work, he just did what needed doing. He had all of the tools and parts he needed with him, and so he was able to do the job in under an hour. (I'm actually running the dishwasher as I write this.) Everyone I interacted with was professional, timely, courteous, and folks I would happily work with again. I highly recommend them. read more

There is little to say when the contractors themselves know little about construction and try to use your own money to give you crappy materials ... the staff at least knows how to do their job. It's not a job anyone should pay the high price I paid for. read more

We looked for a contractor for quite some time. We clicked with IIan immediately. IIan took care to review the project, visiting with us twice before we hired him. No nonsense, no drama, no Taj Mahal recommendations, just sensible pros delivering quality work at a fair price. The team checked in with us often to confirm details, even those that others might have deemed too small to bother, but it all added up to make our new kitchen even more than we hoped. And that's saying something. I had drawn ideas for our new kitchen at least 100 times and saved for years to pay for it. In other words, I had high expectations, maybe higher than our budget would allow, but Alberto, Lorenzo, and Miquel, who were on site most often, exceeded them daily. We found ourselves missing them once the project was done. Great work, responsible, responsive, and genuinely nice crew. Good guys all around. Heck, they were even nice to our dog. We would hire them again. (Note: The floor is covered up in the after photos because some last little touch-ups were being done. The floor underneath is a green-gray slate textured linoleum from Forbo, which was a new material for the crew but they did an A1 installation.) read more

My husband I wanted to remodel our bathroom and convert the tub to a shower, re-tile and add in built-in shelves. We decided to go with Chicago Constructions after some research and gathering other quotes. Iian was very responsive and showed up on time for our initial appointment. We were able to start the project pretty quickly and it was a fairly smooth process. If any issues came up Armando and Avi both worked with us to get the issue resolved. They were friendly and a pleasure to work with. I have had issues in the past with contractors being unreliable and heard other nightmare stories but Chicago Constructions was great! I will definitely hire them again for another project! Here are before and after photos for our project. read more

My husband and I hired Chicago Construction to help us with a bathroom renovation. It was an absolute pleasure working with Ilan, Avi, and Miguel. Ilan and Avi are experts in their field and want to give you the best of the best. They provided us with reasonable estimates, timelines, and even suggestions on how to go about the reno. They were in constant communication with us throughout the project and checked in on the progress in-person which was greatly appreciated. Miguel worked his butt off on the bathroom and did an incredible job! He is truly talented and such a kind person. Everything turned out exactly how we wanted! Ilan, Avi, and Miguel made the entire process of renovation a breeze when it could have easily been the opposite. We would absolutely hire them again and refer them to everyone! Ilan, Avi, Fernando, Marco, and the rest of the team were great to work with. They communicated well with us. They listened to our requests and did their best to meet them. They were respectful and easy to talk to. They maintained a relatively clean environment during the job. We wish they could have anticipated how to dispose of the excess dirt that resulted from digging but eventually they resolved that at the end of the project which we appreciated very much. We now have an extremely sturdy deck and we love it. read more

Love our new bathroom! Complete gut job including removing an enclosure above our old shower to free up more space. Fair pricing for high quality work (got 5 estimates, this one came out right in the middle). The crew was all a pleasure to work with. I don't write a lot of reviews; BUT, I had to write one for Chicago Constructions. First, IIan is wonderful - fair and reasonable pricing. If he can make it happen, he will. Sam (the project manager) and his crew, is absolutely the best. From being responsive to ALL my calls and texts, promptness on completing the job, follow-up activities, and overall general pleasant nature - Sam was what made the whole experience 5 STARS! If you are searching for a contractor, please do not search any further and reach out to them. You wont be disappointed. Ask for SAM!! read more

Rene and Ilan were outstanding. I had a full back porch remodel in the spring that was very expensive. After that I really didn't want to replace the full front porch as well. The bids I got were to replace the entire porch, rather than fixing it - and were, as expected very expensive. Ilan said they could fix it and did quality work faster and more affordable than the other options. They came out and inspected it within 2 hours and got the job started within a day. They finished the job within 36 hours. If you want a fair and honest company, who cares about their customer; I could not recommend them more. They also met my property management compliance requirements without any issue (not a given). read more

We found Ilan based on his five-star Yelp rating for kitchen renovations. He treated my small kitchen project with respect and laid out a very reasonable timeline (four weeks) foe start to finish. He addressed all questions very professionally, and he gave us a very reasonable estimate. All work was executed and overseen by a field manager (Avi), who remained on top of the project throughout, with constant supervision and site visits. We began our complete demo and renovation within a day or two, on a pay-as-you-go timeline which was very easy on my finances. We worked with one highly skilled and knowledgeable construction professional throughout the project, and he diagnosed and solved every problem quickly and expertly. Cabinets were picked, delivered and installed quickly, with no delays or missed appointment. Same with new countertop, and we had ABT appliances delivered and all hooked up to electrical and plumbing modifications in record time. The project was seen to completion in record time, (four weeks, as promised), and I was completely happy with every single thing, honestly! read more

Very quick response time, reasonable pricing and very good work! We had a project that was above our skill level and his team was able to come in and finish it beautifully. Chicago Constructions - The team finished the top glass and edge tiling. Its seamless! I'm excited to have that done so I can finally paint the walls! - General Contractors Near Me

Representative who came to look at my project was condescending and off-putting. Showed not one iota of genuine interest. I had provided a 'Bid on Repair" form prior to the appointment which was pretty extensive and thorough. If it was not of interest, there was no need to waste my time as he did. Added to this experience were comments like "where are you going to live during this", "everyone doesn't do work on the south side, but I do" and "this job could pay 15 of my workers well for 4 months." - definitely not what I want a general contractor focusing on- how well they will make money. And lastly he suggested the house be demolished and rebuilt. Not anything that I asked his opinion on. Condescending and judgmental attitude from John. Teach him some manners before sending him out. read more

Ilan and Ernesto were a great team. Outstanding communication, excellent ideas, and support along the way. I had a shower renovation which was all new territory for me. Spent time in the "Tile Aisle" with them in Home Depot and it was not only educational but a lot of fun! Suggestions made to upgrade from an older model shower were all on target. Ilan worked well within my budget, while I went outside of it. He offered excellent suggestions when selecting the tiles in terms of beauty and cost. Couldn't have pulled it together without his help. Ernesto worked long hours and job was completed in the time that was quoted. Looks beautiful and this is one very happy customer. We were doing a bathroom remodel and nervous about finding the right contractor. We met with several contractors and ultimately went with chicago construction - I found them off of Yelp from their high reviews! Ilan came in for initial quote and seem much more genuine & helpful than others we engaged. The pricing for the work was fair. Ilan was very responsive and diligent - he made sure to understand my vision and wrote everything down, which I really appreciated. The day to day team on the ground was equally as great. Avi was great communicator & made sure things moved along as expected as well as up to standards. Fernando & Ernesto made sure to check in with us throughout the process so everything was as expected - before they laid the tile, electrical, etc. they would make sure we were good with the exact position. Everything was completed within the timeline expected & up to our standards. They made the whole process stress free.
