Originally I had planned to just have the gate on our fence replaced. It was in pretty bad shape…read moreand needed to be replaced when we moved in; it was hard to move and didn't have a proper lock. But when I looked more closely at the fence in its entirety, I noticed it looked pretty poorly done all around. I assumed the prior owners had done it or paid for a cheap fix because it was clearly not done by someone who builds fences for a living. I contacted Eric to come give me a quote on the whole thing. He came by the house pretty quickly, within a day or so, and provided an estimate within the day. I was pretty impressed that he was able to schedule his crew to do the work within 4 business days. They took care of all the permitting and everything, and though I could have done some of that myself it was worth letting them use their expertise rather than me saving a little money to take longer and get frustrated doing it. The fence looks really great, though there's a board or two that has a bit of splintering. The gate is in a completely different league from what was there before. It's properly constructed, well placed, secure, and makes me feel much more comfortable. And I can place a padlock, providing a bit more privacy and protection. They also fenced in a small section that I had some power lines/pole exposed and was a concern for having kids play in the yard. I'm very glad that we went with Pro-Built Fence. Professional, fast, timely, and very skilled at the work they do. I'd highly recommend them. If you're looking for new fencing contact them early so they can get you on their schedule!

He said I "needed to figure out what I wanted to do first". Uhm, I kinda need a quote to know what I want to do. Right? I've hired other contractors before that are more professional. Surprised I couldn't even get a quote. Maybe he's having a bad day or week but to me that says something.

I explained the job, sent photos, and spoke with Kandy. I was told Jerry would review everything and get back to me. What came back was not an estimate. It was a message saying that they "prefer not to work in certain areas in Chicago due to high crime" and that they had previously been assaulted in "bad neighborhoods." Excuse me? I've owned my home for more than 20 years. I work out of state, regularly have contractors perform work at the property, and have never had a contractor respond to me this way. There was no incident at my house, no specific safety issue raised about my property, and apparently no effort to learn anything about the location beyond whatever assumptions they had already made about the neighborhood. My house is also not in ill-repair. I did speak with Kandy on the phone, also. Of course a contractor can decline a job. What bothered me was the manner in which this company did it and the sweeping characterization of me and my neighborhood that accompanied the refusal. After speaking with Kandy and then receiving that message, I was left seriously questioning what assumptions were being made about the neighborhood and the people who live there, including whether race and neighborhood demographics factored into the decision. That is not how I expect a professional business to communicate with a prospective customer. I also did something I should have done beforehand: I went back and read more of their reviews elsewhere. The complaints I found about missed appointments, changing prices, reliability, and service certainly did not make me feel as though I had missed out on anything. Thankfully, I found someone else to do the work. Chicago is a city of neighborhoods. If your business serves Chicago, professionalism should extend to customers throughout Chicago--not just the neighborhoods you have decided are acceptable. I would not recommend Welds on Wheels based on my experience. One star because Yelp does not allow zero.

This is our second time using K.G.; both times have been problem-free. Came Friday at the scheduled time to diagnose the motor, got the door to work once and then it refused to budge. Since the Genie was from 1992, and we've had to replace everything else associated with this house, not surprising. So we needed a new opener and he recommended Chamberlain, which is a good brand. Showed up on time today, got straight to work (no-nonsense and very efficient), no mess from any of the dismantling or re-wiring, and left old parts as asked so I could scrap them.

After getting several quotes and recommendations, I went with Michael Kelly, owner of Mr. Fence, to remove the 60 ft long wood fence used to separate 2 adjacent properties and replace it with a more economical chain link fence. I chose Michael because he was responsive and willing to readjust his work schedule to meet my short time frame. His pricing was also very fair and competitive for the scope of work. After the site visit and getting his formal quote, Michael and his crew was able to start work within 2 days on a Saturday. David did a great job in removing the wood fence, installing the new support posts in concrete, and cleaning up afterwards on the first day. Michael came 2-3 days later after the concrete had time to fully cure to install the chain link to the support posts and install a new gate. Throughout the process, Michael was open and accommodating to my thoughts and ideas to ensure the finished product met my expectations. He also helped me with some related minor "handyman" type repairs that was well beyond his scope of work which were much appreciated. Michael made sure the work was done right and to my satisfaction. I highly recommend Mr. Fence for your big or small fencing needs. Mr. Fence has become my preferred fence company and I have no hesitation in simply calling them and using them again.
