Working with Create Cut Invent has meant a lot to our team. Steve is one of the kindest and most genuine people we have met. You can tell he truly cares about what he does and about helping students learn about fabricating custom parts.. He has helped us with so many custom parts, from metal side plates and back plates to protective polycarbonate plates. He also did something really special for us that not many teams get the opportunity to do, which is custom machining our own gears. Our robot needed a specific size gears in order to create the perfect RPM for the motor. We were unable to find any available parts online and had to make our own. Steve was extremely helpful and the quality turned out amazing! When we were getting ready for the FIRST Tech Challenge World Championship, we were under a ton of pressure with a really tight deadline. We had less than a month to design and build our robot, and there is no way we could have done it without Steve. There were times he got parts done for us the same day. One time, we were a few days out from the World Championship and after initial rounds of testing, we realized our robot could be even faster. Steve was extremely helpful in this matter, where he used his own steel and welded the gears onto a standoff. He was able to get the new custom gears done in just hours, and we were able to attach the new gears onto the robot on the same day! What really stands out is how much he cares. He always took the time to help us, no matter how busy things were, and he treated our team with so much support and respect. Because of him, we were able to succeed at Worlds, earning 3rd place in Design in our division and making it to playoffs. For the 2026 season, we are ranked as one of the top teams in the state of Illinois and regarded as a top caliber team in the world. We are really grateful for everything Steve has done for us. I learned about CCI and owner Steve Coan through a friend who had also had a very positive series of experiences. What I learned after meeting Steve is that he is utterly honest and intensely skilled. He tells you what a thing will cost, and he sticks to it. I'm the kind of guy who always has several oddball projects going, in need of specialties. And his array of ability is almost crazy: laser cutting, water-table cutting, TIG welding, MIG welding, electronics integration, frame-off, powder coating, engine-swapping, drivetrain work, close-circuit, thermal cams, hydraulics, it goes and goes. The only problem is that once you know his skills, your budget can and will go right in the tank, because its like being a kid in a candy shop. I can't count the number of projects I have asked Steve to address, and in every, single last one of them, he has knocked it out of the park, and on budget at that, although, to be fair, not inexpensively: you pay for the quality you get. And further, you might have to wait for him, but I guess that's also a good thing, because it shows he's in demand. I have waited. And ALWAYS been happy. And, as a final note: you hire a guy to weld or build, maybe you don't care if he's a nice guy. He just has to be a competent guy? Well, with Steve, you get both: he cold knows his business and he is one of the nicest guys you would ever want to meet. I would not even consider taking this type of business elsewhere. I brought a part in for my husband that needed to be welded, and we were on a tight timeline. Create Cut Invent was able to repair it quickly and honestly made it better than new.
