This was one of the strangest and most disappointing interactions I've had with a contractor in…read moreChicago. I reached out to Welds on Wheels because I needed gate boxes and locks installed. I explained the job, sent photos, and spoke with Kandy. I was told Jerry would review everything and get back to me. What came back was not an estimate. It was a message saying that they "prefer not to work in certain areas in Chicago due to high crime" and that they had previously been assaulted in "bad neighborhoods." Excuse me? I've owned my home for more than 20 years. I work out of state, regularly have contractors perform work at the property, and have never had a contractor respond to me this way. There was no incident at my house, no specific safety issue raised about my property, and apparently no effort to learn anything about the location beyond whatever assumptions they had already made about the neighborhood. My house is also not in ill-repair. I did speak with Kandy on the phone, also. Of course a contractor can decline a job. What bothered me was the manner in which this company did it and the sweeping characterization of me and my neighborhood that accompanied the refusal. After speaking with Kandy and then receiving that message, I was left seriously questioning what assumptions were being made about the neighborhood and the people who live there, including whether race and neighborhood demographics factored into the decision. That is not how I expect a professional business to communicate with a prospective customer. I also did something I should have done beforehand: I went back and read more of their reviews elsewhere. The complaints I found about missed appointments, changing prices, reliability, and service certainly did not make me feel as though I had missed out on anything. Thankfully, I found someone else to do the work. Chicago is a city of neighborhoods. If your business serves Chicago, professionalism should extend to customers throughout Chicago--not just the neighborhoods you have decided are acceptable. I would not recommend Welds on Wheels based on my experience. One star because Yelp does not allow zero.

Steve did an…read moreoutstanding job engraving a retirement gift for a colleague of mine, and the entire experience could not have been more pleasant. The craftsmanship, professionalism, prompt service, and attention to detail were exceptional. What started as "just buying a gift" turned into creating something truly meaningful and personal -- something my friend and his family will remember and appreciate for years. At one point, people suggested I simply buy a gift card and let my colleague choose something himself. I'm so glad I didn't. A personalized gift carries emotions, friendship, memories, and thoughtfulness behind it, and Create Cut Invent helped make that possible. From now on, this will be my go-to place for meaningful and personalized gifts. Highly recommended.

I called another local metal engraving shop and was told they couldn't do an image on such a small surface because it wouldn't look good. Unconvinced, I called Steve and told him what I wanted. The next morning I went to his shop and he already had a sample engraved on scrap so I could see exactly what it would look like. After I approved it, he had the pen ready in minutes. I feel very lucky to have such easy accessibility to a true industry professional! Any projects I need in the future I will definitely be calling Steve.

This is an important choice for our cities, and our citizens. In our house, we are thrilled to support Tyler & Team. Although our first project was small, a trio of gorgeous live-edge walnut shelves for a tricky hallway laundry lack-of-storage issue, Whitney made sure that we left feeling like the most important clients to walk through the doors. Not only did her experience and ideas make the project much better, but it was done in less than half the time estimated, with some amazing trivets provided from the scraps as a gift. No doubt that they will be our go-to team for all future projects!

I really liked it, but it was in a sad shape. There was a gooey residue on the barrel that would sometimes leave imprints on peoples clothes if they brushed up against it. And the barrel hoops kept falling down. Chicago fabrications brought the barrel back to life. They did an excellent job sanding and staining the barrel and cleaning up the metal hoops and fastening them so they would no longer slip down the barrel. And all that residue is gone. It looks like a million bucks and I would definitely recommend them for any projects you may be thinking of
