Updating this ongoing situation for future potential clients. I didn't hear back from Bryan and have every reason to believe he would have not replied and kept my money had I not reached out to one of his team members who scoped the work the week before to see if he knew what was going on. Previous guy I'd met was surprised by what I told him, so he contacted Bryan on my behalf (who I believe had blocked my number until then). Only then did I get a text from Bryan saying the money would be returned. Previous guy agreed to help me out since I am now down supplies, significant time, and I have work to undo and fix. He makes a plan to come today, 4 days later, now pushing my timeline to the very last minute. But I at least have someone coming who I've met, so I turn down two other bids to start the work the past few days. He's supposed to come at 6am, so my family and I move around our schedules to make sure the home is available and our baby is out of the house earlier than usual. I get no replies to texts or emails until 10am, when I try calling from my husband's phone (showing this guy had also blocked my number - evidently a normal practice for Bryan and his team). Previous guy answers and says Bryan threatened to sue him if he worked with me. So instead of telling me he couldn't come he just ghosted. Again, seems to be common practice here. So now I'm even further behind, still have bad work that needs to be fixed, supplies that need to be replaced, and two deposits being held with no communication from Bryan for 4 days. I can assure everyone I have been nothing but professional in all of my correspondence and given these people no reason to behave so childishly and unprofessionally. Ok so in my last review I said I would use them again. Now that they did they initial clean out and I finally moved my mother to LA I came back to do the final clean out and prep for her home for sale. Well Chicago's Best Services followed up their first home run performance with another HOME RUN! I had 4 days to get the job done with my busy schedule and I told Bryan and his crew it had to be done no matter what. They took on the daunting task to clear out the final things my mother could not sell during her estate sale and the goodwill and salvation army did not want. This was another truck full of stuff. Then they went from top to bottom cleaning every nook and cranny of that property. All my moms sticky cabinets all the cobwebs in the basement and cleaned out every bathroom cabinet shelf kitchen rack and kitchen surface. Everything was as clean as it could be for a 25 year old home. They then came in and shampooed the carpets and mopped and disinfected all the floors. Bryan even pulled out the old caulk in the bathrooms and recaulked these areas as he knew I was placing the property on the market. He came out gave me the estimate and I was amazed at the value with the amount of work that had to be done. I jumped on it and we set up the final phase cleanup for the next two days. He joined his crew and they knocked it out. The place is is exactly that way I asked it to be. I could not have accomplished this cleanup on my own even if I had a week.... BUT BUT BUT here is the kicker! At the beginning of the cleanup I told Bryan and his crew that everything in the house that is not attached to the property goes in the trash and must be removed. My Mother already had months to set aside and pack up what she wanted and we helped her a few weeks before packing everything she wanted into moving containers bound for the West Coast. So at this juncture of the move everything left in the house was expendable. After I left town Bryan called me about a framed piece of art that he put in his car that he found in the house during the clean out. I remember this piece of art and asked my Mother about it! She jumped up and screamed that is hers and that her my Mother had hand knit it and she framed it more than 40 years ago! I asked her why she had not packed it or told me or my siblings to pack it while we were there? She had no answer and could not believe she forgot something so dear to her. I was already back in Cali with my Mother so its not like I could go and pick it up. Bryan went off to the UPS store had them pack it up and sent it to my mother. My mother is 77 years old and things like this art piece mean the world to her and she was in tears when I told her what Bryan from Chicagos Best Services did for her. The reason that this is a big deal is that nobody knew that this piece of art was part of a trash pile. Bryan found it and looked at it and had a feeling that it probably was not a piece of rubbish. He took time to call me and ask me about it. Bryan did not have to do that, he did not even have to think to do that as I expressly told him that everything was now trash. He said to me, "It was the right thing to do and its all Love!" This return of the art piece shows how they went above and beyond and are just the kind of people that do the right things and you would want helping you. I have had nothing but great experiences with this outfit and would highly recommend them to anyone. I contacted Bryan about moving a couch from my house to the junkyard. He was punctual and set up a removal for the same day. Two of his workers came and took the couch for $150 (plus tip), which was a bargain. However, the next day, I went down to my alley and see my couch lying on the ground behind my garage. I immediately contacted Bryan about what happened. He was short with me and rather condescending. He claimed that things like this "never happen" with his service and he was very sorry. However, he couldn't promise that the couches would be moved on the same day. He said multiple times someone "was on the way over" and that I should just wait around for them to move the couch. (As of a few days later the couch is gone, but streets and sans could have taken it as well) I was understandably very angry about the whole situation and referred to the whole situation as "bullshit" to which Bryan told me to "watch my language". I'm sorry, but, if you scam people out of money and don't perform the services that your customers paid for then you absolutely cannot expect sunshine and rainbows. Friendly and personable when selling his services, I hired Bryan to build 6 wood loft beds for Airbnb apartments. I sent him instructions and plans, which included 2 people working together to build it. I had previously built 2 of these beds with a helper in 6 hours. Bryan said he could have all 6 done in 1 day for $800. On day 1, Bryan said his girlfriend's mother had an issue. He couldn't come. On day 2, Bryan sent 1 person. They were overwhelmed and left because it really is a 2 person job as I had indicated in the original plans which also show 2 people building. On day 3, 1 competent person arrived along with their girlfriend who was wearing flip flops, could barely walk, and was not able to do much. The competent person also had 0 sense of urgency with 10 minute smoke breaks every hour, and I'll be done with xyz in 15 minutes would frequently turn into an hour. He also refused to accept help, wouldn't let us have the hardware so another crew could start in another room. I complained to Bryan about the lack of progress. He was rude, dismissive, and angry with me. Bryan blamed me for having the parts disorganized (he had taken them from an organized pile in the garage and strewn them haphazardly around an apartment). I did not engage in the argument with Bryan, but rather addressed his concern. I organized all of the parts that he had strewn about. Bryan was yelling at me about the price being too low. I said I'm not complaining about the price. If you can send an additional person, and they can complete this today or tomorrow, I would gladly pay more. On day 4, I was told that Bryan would be going into rehab and I was to pay the remainder of the balance to the person Bryan had sent. The job wasn't completed. On day 5, I had a photographer scheduled for the morning, and the job was not completed. I was already past my deadline and the tardiness in completion cost me a lot of money, screwed up my schedule with my cleaning crew, and upset several of my guests who I had to reschedule. Bryan is very friendly when selling his services. However he subcontracts out all the work, and takes no responsibility for any issues that arise. His customer service, was rude, dismissive, angry, and he almost seemed like he was looking for something to fight about. I would not recommend this poorly run handyman operation. Oh yeah, the subcontractor also raised the price 50% because it took him longer. If you're looking for a handyman who will take longer, charge more, and scream at you while doing it, Bryan is your guy. read more

I have the pics of the unfinished job that I texted him asking him to come finish.... The gunk behind the toilet. The filthy blinds... the dirty floors. He is a liar and a scammer. If he was an honest business man, he would have acknowledged the job wasn't done and he would have come back to finish it. Bottom line: There are too many honest services in Chicago to trust this guy with any job... big or small/ - Bryan did show up to clean my appt. - he had a check list of what he said would be done for $150. Included cabinets, blinds, bathrooms, etc. Basically, it would be move in ready for my tenants. - I showed up and he was cleaning. He had cleaned the kitchen and swept the upstairs. I had to get back to work, so I payed him in full and left. - when I came home, it was obvious he had left shortly after I paid him in full. - no bathroom cleaning, no blinds, no cabinets. I called him and text asking him to make it right and finish the job. He ended up blocking my number (i would call him at 5am). basically, he said "tough luck sucker.. don't pay people in full before the job is done". Original Review: I hired Bryan to clean my rental unit in-between tenants and to clean the carpet. He's friendly and prompt, but he is a scammer. I met him at my unit and he was sweeping up the floor. He said his cleaning crew was running a few minutes late and would be there shortly. He gave me a huge check list of all the stuff that was going to get done. I had to get back to my office, so I paid him the $150 and told him to lock up when he was done. He must have left shortly after I did. Nothing was clean. The bathtub, shower, blinds, floor boards, cupboards, etc. He basically swept, cleaned out the fridge and then took off. I showed up on Sunday to do a walk through with my new tenants and, aside from a clean fridge and a swept floor, the place hadn't been touched. I figured things happen and his cleaning crew stood him up. I called him and asked him to have a cleaning crew there later in the day to finish up. Never heard back from him. SOLID SKILL SET, NICE PEOPLE we had them come out and install our speaker system we took down on a remodel. we wanted to re-mount speakers and reinstall the prelabeled wires to our receivers. for this kind of job, they work evenings, which is great, so we scheduled ahead. the prices were a little higher than we expected based on where we used to live, but that seems to be kind of common in chicago. a day or two later, a guy named charles came. very friendly but he had a family emergency and had to leave after just an hour and a half. bummer, i hope his mom is ok. but with just 90 minutes work the job wasn't done, so we were delayed by that. fortunately, a day or so later, bryan sent a guy name ramsey. ramsey was a super friendly, nice dude, but he wasn't aware he was supposed to hook up the receivers, he thought the job was just the speakers being mounted. although he didn't know the rewiring was part of the work he didn't contest the job, just had me speak with bryan to ensure there wasn't an extra charge for the work. i think my only negative comment about the experience was the communication piece as it left some confusion and i had spent some time speaking directly with bryan, so i had hoped there wouldn't be any confusion when the job came around. minor issue in a small job but in a big job, this could be a concern, so i would recommend getting whatever you can in writing to avoid confusion. anyhow, ramsey ended up working a couple hours longer than expected (and did not complain at all, staying very positive and upbeat). if you ask my wife what the downside was, it was that i actually had to get involved in helping set up the speakers to speed things up. ramsey almost certainly could have figured it out by himself, but it seemed like he was looking for my assistance on setting it up as we had seen the old setup before we took it down. if i left him to do it himself, it could have taken hours longer... so it was getting pretty late and i helped him work out the wiring. i wasn't upset or anything about helping, but it was kind of a minor issue as my wife needed me to help her with some things in the house at the same time. so she was a little irked i had to be involved at all in the installation. that was the low point for her. anyhow, overall, the folks doing the work were great, knowledgeable, friendly, and willing to do the work. i didn't have junk removal or anything, so i can't comment on some of the negative reviews, and i acknowledge a couple things could have gone smoother, but overall the experience was good albeit a little more expensive and involved than we expected. had the communication been clearer to ramsey and he came earlier in the day, that would have solved the issues noted above and i'd give the place 5 stars. i'd definitely consider their services again. read more

Super easy transaction. Sent a few pictures, got a quote almost instantaneously, and it was done the next day (Sunday!). Price was super reasonable, too. The job was done quickly and I was never asked to hold a door open or anything -- this guy was very self-sufficient. I had 5 years of accumulated junk I needed to get rid of; I was moving from a 2bed/2bath in bucktown to something tiny in New York. Had a ton of books, clothes, etc. -- see photos. I put the stuff to be donated in one room and stuff to be thrown out in another room along with the added complication of "don't throw away the treadmill in the middle of the throwaway pile." I did a crappy bagging and boxing job (ran out of boxes so stuff wasn't boxed, there were a few things I probably should have double or triple bagged because they were jagged and/or heavy) but my apartment was left spotless as was the elevator, entryway, and hallways. If it was littered in remnants of broken beer bottles or if the guy had taken twice as long because he had to make more trips due to my crap consolidation job, it would have been completely understandable. Nonetheless he did a great job, was uncomplaining, and as an added bonus was super nice to my dog. read more

I'll just get the bottom line out of the way forthright: if you need a last minute job done well (in my case, hauling remodeling debris to the dump), call these guys and it'll get done effectively, quickly, and for a very, very competitive price! Bryan is a great guy, incredibly outgoing, and he's hard working as hell. I will definitely keep his number around for any other work I need done, and I'll definitely be recommending him to friends. No but seriously, we called him on a Thursday and by Saturday he hauled away around 1,500 pounds of stuff in his van. It was STUNNING. I can't rate Chicago's Best Services highly enough. My entire bathroom ceiling came crashing down on a Sunday morning a couple of months ago and, because it was a Sunday, I couldn't get ahold of my landlord. Never having owned a home, I had absolutely no idea what to do or who to call. Most places were closed or wouldn't deal with this kind of an issue. But I found these guys on yelp, and within an hour after I called them, they were at my door. They had everything removed and cleaned and fixed to the point that my bathroom was safe to use again within another hour (I couldn't even get the door open before they arrived, because the sheetrock was blocking the door from opening), and they even offered to work with my landlord to diagnose and fix the leak that originally caused the damages. They were super friendly, down-to-earth and trustworthy as far as cost and quality. They turned a really stressful situation into a story I can now laugh about. Thank you! read more

I would give a zero rating if I could! I am more than angry but I cannot use the words ok like to on yelp. In addition to the huge list below, I just found an enormous paint stain on my curtains. DO NOT GO TO THIS GUY!! It's by far, without a doubt, the worst service I've ever received. Unprofessional sloppy work!!!! They didn't paint everything I requested and the painter told me I wouldn't have to pay extra for the inconvenience of painting the baseboards because the his boss, the owner, didn't tell him that was included. The nerve to say he wouldn't charge me extra when that was supposed to be done! And on top of it, he didn't even paint them!! 1. The baseboards were not all painted. 2. Drop clothes were not used as I was and still am removing paint from my hardwood floor. There is paint everywhere on the floors. My floors are ruined. 3. They used my sink to clean rollers etc. and each night was left beyond filthy. 4. My sink in addition to the filth has paint everywhere. My sink is completely stained and garbage disposal broke. 5. Light and plug covers were scattered throughout my living room and kitchen that were not screwed back on. 6. Wall corners are not straight and paint looks uneven and also bleeds over to the other wall. 7. Not all nail wholes were patched. 8. The red painted in the kitchen still shows white paint across the entire length of walls that were painted. Paint is also on the countertops everywhere! Spots where he didn't even finish painting! 9. The doorway trim was not painted. This isn't even all of it! When I do a project, no matter what it is, I do it meticulously and leave the area clean. Now I will have to find someone to correct all of these problems. More money plus a huge amount to replace curtains. read more

Terrible. My office hired someone to come put together two desks we ordered through Amazon. The guy called a day in advance and said he had put plenty of these kinds of desks together before, no problem. I had to step out for a meeting and let him know that I would be back within an hour. He said it was fine and that he would still be here. I came back and he was gone. The desks weren't even assembled correctly, and he had taken the instruction manual with him. He left his personal number, I called, he said he didn't want to "wait around" for me to get back... Also told me he would come back the next day to finish the desks. I haven't heard from him since. This business went above and beyond for for and did an awesome job! It was an Ice storm and the original cleaners could not get through the streets. Bryan stepped up and cleaned it himself even though I had no parking during a sleet storm and was so friendly the whole way! This was the WORST experience I've ever had with a handyman/repair service. The guy missed his first appointment because he was running behind on the job before mine. I understood and happily rescheduled. I showed up the next day at 11am and he was a half an hour late, again, not that big of a deal. Long story short, it took him 5 and a half hours to try to fix one door handle, and couldn't even do it. He took 3 trips to home depot that took almost an hour to 2 hours each and the first time he came back with the wrong lock, the second time he went back to exchange it for a correct one, and the third was because he left parts to the door handle at the store on the second trip. He took literally 5 and a half hours to "fix" my door handle and couldn't even do it. MY PAINTER HAD TO FINISH IT FOR HIM because I had to leave for an appointment at 5:30pm and couldn't leave my door open with no handle or lock. When I emailed his supervisor, he basically told me it's common for them and I should understand. What I do understand is that when you go to get a lock, you figure out what type of lock you need first before you leave for the store. This whole experience was a total joke and if you choose to use them, good luck to you, you need to block out an entire day and have someone else on hand to get the job done. I found Chicago's Best Services on Craigslist, searching for junk/debris removal. I emailed some photos of a pile of broken sidewalk and bricks that I needed hauled away. Bryan responded quickly with a quote and his availability. We worked out a pick-up date/time via email and everything worked out perfectly. He showed up on time with a van and within 20 mins or so he was on his way. Did everything we agreed on. Total relief to have the stuff gone, and really happy about how easy it was to schedule the work and have it actually be done.
