We had Safety Matters install several gates, drawer latches, and plexiglass shielding in our home. They got the job done quickly and the aesthetics were decent. But they cut some important corners. A day or so after they came one of the drawer latches broke off (not the part, but how it was mounted). This should have been a red flag. About a year later, the gate at the top of our stairs came detached from the wall when my wife closed it. This gate sits on top of approximately 20 steep stairs. Safety Matters secured the gate to the wall with just two screws, into drywall, without using any kind of anchor. There is a stud two inches away, which they did not bother to use. Our stairs are at a very weird angle and we called Safety Matters to inquire about a custom gate. Instead of installing a custom gate at a cost of $800, he recommended doing a normal gate and was able to install it to work perfectly. He came and installed it the next day and saved us $600 by being honest. Gate has worked great! read more

Horrible, unreliable, unprofessional company! They baby proofed my house for a ridiculous amount of money. Missed many socket outlets, even missed one in my children's playroom which made me furious! They use crappy cheap gates and other baby proofing items that you can buy on amazon for a fraction of the cost they charge you for! And good luck getting a hold of them or getting a call back if you need them to fix or finish the service they been already paid for!!!! It's very disappointing bc at the walk through the owner who's an excellent sales person (Larry) promises you the world!!!! It's a bad, careless and unorganized company. read more

I always check Yelp before hiring any service so I'm not sure how I missed all these awful reviews! The reviews I read for the company I thought I hired had all 4-5 stars. After reaching out to several companies, I think I got a case of baby brain and hired the wrong one. That being said, Larry was very quick to respond to my initial inquiry and did my home evaluation the next day! He was very professional & not at all pushy. He made a list of recommendations, then let me choose what I wanted. The installation guy, Paul, was great. He came 2 days later. I didn't have to pay for anything until after he was done---which is great, because I changed my mind about a lot of stuff once he showed me stuff in person. He was very patient. I did have a problem with one of the gates not working right. I tried reaching Larry the same day (of installation) but couldn't get through. He did get back to me the next day though & had Paul come out 4 days later to replace the gate. As for price, yes, it's expensive. But I spent probably the same amount of money on baby proof gear for our house 2 years ago, self installed and it didn't withstand my now 2 year old. With a newborn now too, I need to know that if I'm off changing a diaper or nursing, my toddler won't be getting into danger. Take it from me--it's worth it. It's worth the money, the time (it would take most people several days to do what he did in 3 hours), and peace of mind. I only reduced a star based on communication.....definitely not super responsive to follow-up emails & calls. But I'm thinking they are a 2-man company so I'll cut them some slack. I was terribly disappointed with their service. Not only is the owner a great salesman (promising the world) but is also terrible at returning phone calls. I felt like he painted an amazing picture of babyproofing when he did the estimate, but when installation guy arrived, (1) was only able to complete half the job for a VERY pricey cost (I could have ordered off of amazon for lower price), (2) handed me boxes of cord protectors and powerstrip covers and said I had to install myself because their attorney told them to do so (they were sued for breaking computer of client), and (3) could not follow through on stove protection as previously discussed. If I could give zero stars, I would. Similar to the other reviews, I was promised the world. The initial meeting was fantastic and I was excited to move forward with the safety gate installation. I required a couple of follow-up visits due to poor installation and had to pester the owner for weeks before I even got a return call. It's been months and I'm still waiting for a response from the last email I sent. Go with another company! read more

I wish I had checked Yelp before hiring this company. I had the same problem as the others. He's very responsive until you pay. Then he will no longer answer any phone calls or emails. I really had no problem with the service initially. But when they came to do the installation there were a few items that weren't in stock and would take 2-4 weeks to arrive. I figured no big deal, I paid for everything in full, including the items that were to be delivered. It's been 2 months and I still haven't gotten the items I ordered. And he has not responded to my emails or phone messages asking to find out when they would arrive. I've asked for a refund, but no response. If you end up using this company in spite of the negative reviews, do yourself a favor and only pay for what you receive and do NOT pay in advance for anything. read more

I used Larry. He came quickly to give me an estimate. He's approachable, and did a great job at child proofing my new home. I would use him again, and recommend his company. Not sure about the negative reviews here on yelp, but he got the job done and I have no complaints. Plus he will come back multiple times to fix whatever, and charge you reasonable prices. read more

Similar to the other stories, the initial meeting was great. Larry was very thorough and not too pushy with sales. They came out and installed everything, but did not have one of the items. Said he would be back in a week to install it and never returned. I had paid in full for everything since it was only the one item we had to wait for so I didn't think it was a big deal. I tried contacting him after waiting and he said he was sorry that they were out of stock on the item and asked if I would I like a different brand or a refund. I asked for a refund and he never paid me back. The toilet locks all broke immediately.....complete crap. The baby gate poles broke within a few months of my baby pulling on them. If a 1 year old can break the baby gates, that's pathetic. My baby was able to pull open the cabinets despite having locks installed. DO NOT TRUST THESE GUYS OR WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THEIR CHEAP PRODUCTS. They are complete scammers and have no intention of following through on their contracts. read more

I read the other reviews after Safety Matters had already done work for me and I felt that they were really harsh. Larry came and did a prompt evaluation, and made a number of suggestions. There was no pressure to get everything done. His guy came out as scheduled and did a clean, tidy and methodical job. I was disappointed that an item I had been expecting him to bring was not with him (table edging). But in fairness I had not specifically confirmed that I was planning on having this done (even though it was on the estimate). Hiring a professional baby proofing company is not cheap. But at least they measure and bring the correct gates! Before hiring a company I spend hundreds of dollars on gates that did not fit well, and socket plugs that can be pulled out. Plus I had to put things up myself. I generally agree that you shouldn't pay upfront for products that you have not received, but I was not charged for anything extra and I expected to pay an up-charge to have someone apply/ nail/ screw and stick everything in the correct place. I would recommend this company. read more
