I have been wanting to write a review for a while but have tried to stay calm. After a few months I want to share my experience. In October I went to Safar salon because I was recommended by a friend. I usually go to a salon 30 minutes outside of the city but I now live in Boston and was looking for a salon closer to my apartment. However, my experience left me in tears and with ruined hair for months. For a back story, I have naturally very light brown hair. A few years ago I had my last balayage appointment and since have been growing out the blonde/highlighted pieces so that I can get back to only my light brown. Because my hair had some blonde pieces I wanted to get them dyed brown so that my whole head would be one color. I feel bad leaving the hairdressers name but if needed I can provide. She told me that in order to cover the blonde/lighter pieces that she would have to dye them a little darker. I told her I did not want to go darker than my natural hair color and she assured me that the darkest it would be is a half shade darker and would lighten within 3 washes. She knew I was nervous but I said ok as I trusted her. I also said I did not want permanent color I just wanted a temporary fix so the blonde pieces would not be as transparent as they grew out. She added the dye and then walked me over to the heat lamp. I then sat under a heat lamp for 45 minutes. To the point where another hair dresser came over and asked who was doing my hair and he looked very confused/concerned. I think she had forgotten about me or something. Then she came over and rinsed my hair. As I sat there with damp hair I noticed my hair was very dark but waited for it to be blow dried to be worried. Once my hair was dry I looked in the mirror and it was jet black. Again I had light brown hair, milk chocolate colored I would say. She told me it would get much lighter after a few washes. I cried when I got home and looked in my own mirror. I waited 2 days and then called the salon. I told them how upset I was and they told me that it would wash out. When I asked if they could do anything for me they said they could not. They suggested I get shampoo and rinse a few times. Not only was my hair jet black but it was also beyond damaged. I had very thick hair, I always had since I was a kid and now my hair is beyond thin. I don't even recognize my own hair anymore. People were shocked when they saw my color and a friend even said I looked like snow white. I became so upset I even spent a few days shampooing 4 times a day and spending thirty minutes in the shower for a week. I cried so much; I still do. I decided to write this review after today going back to the hair dresser that I trust outside of the city. When I told her about my hair experience I again started to cry. She told me that what I wanted should NOT whatsoever have required a heat lamp. And to be put under it for 45 minutes was extremely concerning. After examining my hair she can tell that the heat lamp did damage my hair and could be why it is so thin now. I obviously did not know how long hair dye should stay in but the time I had it in my hair was also way too long she told me. I wish I was educated more about hair or I would have stood up for myself at Safar and voiced my concerns during the coloring. Now I am left with thin weak hair and I am not sure if the thickness will get back to normal. The hair color I got did not suit me and it was not what I wanted. I started to avoid social situations because I feared what people would think. I did not want to damage my hair further so I did not go back to any salon until today. You can argue that I should have gone sooner but Safar told me "there is nothing that can be done" and "it will come out with wash". Even going to the other salon today gave me a great deal of anxiety due to the poor experience at Safar. I am confused on why so many people have great reviews and why it is such a popular salon because I will never step foot in here again. Not to mention I was charged 250$ +. A ridiculous amount for me to be so unhappy and sad about my hair. My hair was my favorite quality about myself and now I am sad every time I feel it and feel the thinness and think about how awful the color and experience was. This was the worst experience I have ever had at a salon and I am extremely upset even 5 months later. I will provide a photo of the hair. In person many people asked "when did you dye your hair black" to show you that it was not just me that thought it but others saw it as black as well. PS I use a screen name when on yelp for privacy reasons. However, this is a 100% accurate review.

I first started coming to Safar during covid and i always feel safe and protected everytime and have gone back multiple times since. Omid Maxey is my stylist and he's done such a wonderful job with my hair each time i see him. He has such a good eye and can just tell what your hair needs by looking at you; he always takes your feedback into consideration and my hair ends up better than i expect or want everytime. The consummate professional and ambassador for Safar and he always takes care of his clients every time you see him. I would give Omid and Safar more than 5 stars if I could! Have even referred my friends to see him as well. Your hair will love him and highly recommend him!

Yes, that's ombré hair. And it's not supposed to be.

The work is impeccable to a level that I've been stopped by more than one stranger on the street post appointment. They have fantastic pricing and easy booking but what really sets them apart for me is the personalized and comfortable experience in the chair. I've been in salons where you can clearly tell you're their hundredth appointment, they aren't listening to you, they just want to get it done and worst of the staff don't get along with one another. That's not ZenaRose. Every staff member at ZenaRose genuinely gets a long and helps one another out; creating a wonderful atmosphere to spend what is some times more than an hour or two for an appointment. I connected with Kelli on my first visit and no matter what time or day I have booked with her over the years she makes me feel like I'm the only client she's seeing. She is kind, fun and her attention to detail makes me feel so confident when I leave her chair. I had my first every professional make up done by Yuliya today and WOW! I went in with no pictures and stunned with the results. As someone who has never gotten their makeup done I wasn't sure what to expect. Yuliya made me very comfortable, most notably making sure to pause to let me blink while she was doing my eye make up. I hadn't even realized I needed to blink and she's pausing for my comfort. Will definitely be back. Last note on booking, I called ten minutes before they closed the night before I needed a morning appointment. Fully expecting that a Saturday morning in late Feb would be booked solid, I got a call back in less than 10 minutes saying they had worked something out and it's all booked. No matter who you chose at ZenaRose you're going to have an incredible experience.

I absolutely loved my hair and make up done by Anastasia. She did a fantastic job listening to what I wanted and making my vision come to life. I deducted one star because my appointment was for Event/Glam Photoshoot Make Up and Dyson Bouncy Curl Blow Out, but I didn't end up getting a blow out. She styled my hair with a flat iron but I was still charged for a bouncy curl blow out which I didn't feel was the same value. Other than that, I was very happy with my experience.

Green Room Boston and Jessica are, hands down, the best! I've been to stylists all over (New York,…read moreChicago, Boston, etc.) and have yet to meet anyone that even compares to Jessica. She is truly a master of her craft and on top of that, a genuine person. What makes Jessica unique and ultimately, the best, is her ability to actually listen to what her clients want. For the first few appointments, Jessica asked me to show her images of hair I liked and then she really pressed me to detail exactly what it was I liked about the images (darker roots, length, layering, highlights, overall color, etc.). After only a couple of these conversations, I realized that for years I was describing to hair stylist something that was entirely different than what I actually wanted. With Jessica, going through these images and having these discussions helped us to be on the same page about what I wanted my hair to look like both in the moment as well as in the future. Using this information, she created a customized plan and timeline for me; the result is that today my hair is longer and healthier than ever with a color that I absolutely adore. Her skills as a stylist are further complemented by the exceptional level of service that she provides. Jessica is always on time and clear about pricing. She confirms appointments a week in advance and always offers flexibility if you need to reschedule; it's not uncommon for her to come in early or stay late to accommodate a client. She develops long-term relationships with her clients and gets to know them on a personal level so that she can tailor both the service and overall experience to each individual. Jessica is expensive, but I believe you get what you pay for. In this instance, superior haircare services in an exclusive single chair salon with a creative and thoughtful stylist.
