GO SEE LYNDA I cant say enough how amazing and kind she was for taking on my hair. I got an awful cut and dye job down the road (Adelas) and Lynda somehow fixed it and made it look impossibly gorgeous. I still cant believe it. Almost cried in the chair from happiness. I originally starting coming here because of the reviews and because I live nearby. I have very curly hair, and it has been a part of my identity since I was young. When I came in to the salon about a month ago, it was to have my hair colored again, something I've been doing for 2 years. The woman who did it made a mistake and my hair ended up the color of "Wendy from Wendy's" hair (her words, not mine). She died it 2 more times to try and fix it. I left with chemical burns on my scalp, and my curls are completely gone. My hair is fried. I had to go somewhere else to have the color stripped. Carbon tried to charge me at a 50% discount on my way out--I told them I wasn't going to pay anything. I still tipped the stylist for her time. Don't go here if you are looking for a place you can trust. I didn't want to write this review but my scalp is still flaking and damaged and my hair doesn't look the way it has for the past 20 years. read more

First time in this salon, just wanted to go to some place that is convenient and closer to the city and also near a train station. I've passed by this place a few times when I'm strolling around the city. It was kind of obvious that the place was pricey but I only wanted to get a trim which I was thinking to be cheaper compared to all other services that are complicated. I inquired first and they gave me a price range which I thought wasn't too bad but it's not cheap either. But then I figured to treat myself since I barely go to salons anyway. I decided to make an appointment. The stylist was waiting for me when I got there. They let me sit down ask if I wanted something to drink which was nice. I only got a trim so she only Did like an inch but it was ok. It's just that it seems like I didn't get a cut at all. But then the end result Was a nice style at the back and it kept the length of my hair. So I did like it at the end. The only downside was it's a little pricey for only a trim. They should have atleast lowered the price since it's not a haircut. I don't know if I'm going back but I'll see. It's not a bad salon after all. I just don't think it's worth the price. read more

This review is long overdue as I've been cutting my hair here since I moved to Boston in 2016! I cut my hair with Kara and she is always so much fun. If you need someone who can tell you the truth about what would look good on you and what wouldn't, or when you're just feeling like switching it up drastically and need someone to take you off the fence, she's your girl. I mean, for me drastic is like five or six inches cut but you get my drift. She's also done a gorgeous braid for me as well (I attached photos). I went to Xiomara for an updo and makeup on my wedding day and she did an astounding job! A special thanks to her and the staff for working with my mom to open the salon early to accommodate me! As far as the salon goes, it's clean and fully stocked with great products. They pay attention to the details and treat you kindly. I took my sister to get a balayage after a long time of her not having any color services done. She was scared because they messed her hair up in another place and she was still growing it out. Lynda was amazing and listened and actually had a consultation with her. She was very understanding and caring and explained the whole process of what she was going to do. Lynda did an amazing job with making her feel comfortable with her warm personality and did a great job on her hair!!!! She has got a client for life now!!! Go to Lynda everyone!!! A little about me. When I let my face grow wild, I'm basically The Wolverine. Because FML. I usually go to one person even if out of my way because she always does a fabulous job and, well, I just love her. I've known her for 10 years ! She doesn't make me feel embarrassed about my facial hair like many stylists (new walk in places for me) do. So I just keep coming back. But sometimes I let myself go for too long and I just want it all ripped off. And since I work downtown, I'll usually find a place that does walk ins and hope for the best. I'm usually on the defensive just waiting for the "omg you're so hairy!" Comments. I did a brief yelp reading blitz and happened upon Carbon. Good reviews. One even said "they take your coat and offer you a drink!" So I enter the salon and inquire about the price of fixing my face and wince a little because I honestly pay about $10 less. But there are good reviews...my son's birthday party is on Sunday so I need this wax (I'm sure we will already have parents judging us -ha! Why give more fodder? Hehehe). Thankfully the friendly and helpful receptionist could get me in very quickly. I glance around, being the Elite I am to take notes to write you a novel and I see things like : happy customers. More than friendly beauticians. They are having lively conversations. You can tell who are the regular. The salon is extremely clean. Great first impression. I remember thinking as a joke "Hmm so much for taking my jacket, Yelper Exaggerator!" ((But also thinking ...it's Friday and they are busy)) Lo and behold my Facial Hair Executioner comes to greet me and wut wut? She takes my coat (all my layers!) and offers to make me a coffee or tea. So my stylist , Xiomara, is, simply put, amazing. Like...I love her. I feel bad for cheating on my longtime stylist but she really did gain a new , loyal client. She didn't make me feel embarrassed s it my face. She's great to talk to. Sure when I have time I'll return to my roots salon , but when I just want to get a quick waxing done after work, I'll be heading to Carbon and I'll make sure Xiomara can take care of me. The wax they use doesn't burn and doesn't leave your face feeling sticky or red either. If you are looking for a new place that will treat you like a VIP , Carbon is your place. Worth the price. I was waiting to review this salon to see how my color & cut held up after a week and I'm happy to report that Carbon gets 5/5 stars! I was welcomed with a glass of water and an option to store my coat, then relaxed in the waiting area until my appointment time. I just moved to Boston from California and wasn't sure I'd find a stylist who could achieve the look I wanted. Luckily, I found Xiomara on social media! She was extremely accommodating to my schedule, and helped me achieve exactly what I was looking for: a layered cut with feathered curtain bangs & a fresh color. She does an awesome shampoo, as well as complimentary bang trims between your regular appointments! Xiomara gave me some tips on how to reduce my scalp oiliness & prolong my blow-dries with dry shampoo. She also introduced me to a texturizing spray, which helped my bangs achieve the tousled, fluffy look I wanted. I left the salon feeling bouncy and fresh, and can't wait to visit again. Wow, so I came into Carbon (my second salon in a week) looking for a rescue from this coconut cut that I'd gotten a day or so previous. The location was perfect and I was able to book a day in advance, this would be my first time visiting this particular spot. Shimon was my stylist and he did a WONDERFUL job at delivering what I asked for. I explained in great detail about what I wanted and he was so phenomenal at reassuring me that we would take it step by step. The end result was fantastic and so affordable considering! TLDR: This is the best haircut/salon experience I have ever had, and it's all thanks to Meghan. I woke up one Saturday morning and decided I needed a haircut. Now. An hour later, I walked into Carbon Salon, and was immediately greeted by the front desk. They had availability for a walk-in and Meghan would be with me shortly. The salon is clean and well-decorated, and the woman at the front desk kindly took my coat. Within 5 minutes, Meghan greeted me and brought me over to the chair. This is where the story gets good. Meghan took the time to listen to everything I had to say about my hair ("this is what I want, this is what my hair is like, this is where previous haircuts have gone wrong") I could immediately tell that Meghan was not only a professional, but someone who "got it." She made me feel comfortable, and I got to spend the next 60-90 minutes completely relaxed knowing I was in good hands - an experience I have never had before while getting my haircut. Long story short, I left Carbon Salon with the best haircut (and the best blowout!) I've ever had in my life. I would recommend Meghan to anyone in a heartbeat, especially those who have wavy/curly, thick, or slightly rebellious hair like me. I'm disappointed to share that I had a really negative experience here. When I arrived, no one offered to hang up my coat or get me anything to drink. My hair dresser (who I was first meeting) came over and wasn't super friendly. Right off the bat, I felt like an inconvenience to the salon. I went in this afternoon for a quick hair cut and blow out, asked for just a trim (1-2 inches at most!) and he took off about 4 inches. I told him afterwards that he took off too much and I wasn't too thrilled with it. My hair is shorter than it's ever been and I'm so unhappy with the end result. I left with feeling extremely bummed out and didn't try to hide how upset I was. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this salon. Although, the hours and location are convenient, the quality just isn't there. read more

Awful experience. I asked for cool toned balayage as a touch up of what I already had and ended up with my entire head turning copper with chunky blocks of brassy red and a bunch of my hair melting off. I do not recommend going to this salon. Then I was offered for it to be corrected by the same stylist? The only reason I'm giving the 2 stars instead of 1 is because they tried to be accommodating when trying to fit me back into their schedule to correct their mistakes. I'm extremely disappointed and upset that I can't undo their job. I've always taken very good care of my hair and had only gotten balayage highlights twice before with the same lady at a salon I go to in my hometown. I'm sad I can't fix it for a while due to the irreparable damage they caused. Lastly, an additional 60 dollars was added to the bill to blow dry my hair and half of my head was left wet. To confirm, my hair was NOT damaged to begin with. I came in for a touch up. The business is trying to defend themselves by attacking the client. My before is when my hair is curled. My after is the the picture where my hair is orange. The business owner has never met me in person or seen my hair or even offered an apology. DO NOT GO HERE. read more

After about 2 years of trying different places for trims and color, I have finally found my home for my hair needs. The location is great and walkable for me - and for those who it may not, it's located super close to Park St station and DTX. The staff is super friendly and accommodating, and the overall vibe is quite pleasant. Kara does an amazing job - listening to what her clients want, and then delivering on it. They have great products, too. If you are looking for a new salon and great service is something you desire, I would give Carbon my highest recommendation. To boot, I don't think their costs break the bank either. I expected to pay more than I did for my last few services. So as far as Boston prices go, more than fair! This was my first time getting an expensive haircut, and I was really looking forward to it. However, I would've been better off going to supercuts to get my haircut than here. I have never written a negative review for anything in my life but I am so upset at how my hair looks I felt compelled to say this. My haircut was not what I asked for, it looks completely botchy and is probably the worst haircuts I have ever received. I literally want to cry every time I look in the mirror. I don't even know what to do with it because it is cut so short and I will just have to wait for it to grow out now. My friend had Kara do her hair today and I was with her during the whole process... Let me tell you, if it was me in that salon chair the appointment would've been cut SHORT. Kara immediately insulted my friends hair which was the first red flag. Next thing I noticed was that Kara herself did not even have nice hair. Her extensions were nappy and if you're going to have a hairstylist you can trust sis should at least have nice hair. Also, Kara didn't listen to my friend. She asked for a short chop and Kara assumed what she wanted giving her choppy layers that she did not even ask for. Then to top it all off at the end of the appointment Kara asked my friend how she liked her hair, my friend replied 'I'm not sure yet.' I always see Ingrid whom has been doing my haircuts for over 15 years. I have tight curls but you would not be able to tell after she blow dries it. The antifreeze products she uses really do work. She has great sense of style and and taste. I always love her suggestions for haircuts and color. I was there yesterday and had my hair cut and color. I'm really happy with the result The service in this hair salon is amazing. As soon as you walk through the door they welcome you by your first name, take your coat or jacket off and offer you anything to drink. The place is always clean and smells nice. The staff is very professional and diverse in terms or race/ethnicity, gender and also style. I will actually be going there again later this week to wash and blow dry. Really sad about this salon and situation. My friend recommended me to this salon and Xiomara as she does good color work. Let me preface this by saying that the photo I brought in of what I wanted was cool highlights in the front which she said she can 100% do. I knew it was going to be a process but I was told she would keep the health and integrity of my hair while doing highlights/ balayage. After 6 hours my hair ended up breaking off, falling out, and looking like an orange flaming anime character. I was literally mortified driving home from the salon and in tears. I am attaching a photo after complaining, to desk manager David and having to jump through many hoops - I was able to get money back but the damage is unreal. I washed yesterday and drying my bangs melted into plastic and burned when I added heat and I had to cut that section of burned plastic mess out of my hair. I literally have to get a pixie cut bc this hair isn't salvageable. What should have happened is this: refund money and offer to fix it w a cut or extensions or whatever bc it's my hair! Ugh. This is seriously the BEST salon. I see Lindsey for my cuts, color, deep conditioning treatment, and blow outs. They use amazing professional quality products and are so accommodating to your needs. I couldn't give Lindsey a higher rating. She is professional and personable and will be honest about what she thinks is best for you. She's always accommodating my needs while making tweaks to make it look even better! Also you can go during your lunch break and get a cut, treatment, wash, and blowout within 45 minutes! I came in for a trim and some layers and Olivia Portegello was amazing :) We had a lot of time since there weren't many clients that day (thanks COVID), so not only did my cut look gorgeous but we also did some spontaneous balayage, then she curled my hair! I have been seeing Shimon for close to five years now; and he is the most talented colorist/hair stylist I have ever come across. From beginning to finish he takes care to effect the perfect color, tone and cut---and he's not afraid to stay past closing to do it. There are very few people in the world who are passionate to the core about what they do, and Shimon is one of these people. The experience as much as the result when going to see him is seamless and most importantly stress free. He listens, assesses and always makes sure that he is providing not just quality, but something that his client will be proud to walk out of the salon with.
