I really wanted to like this place because it's only 5 minutes away from my office. It was convenient to make the appointment online and the waiting time was minimal. I got a full face threading two days before an important event. I left with multiple small cuts on my face (I wish I could post pictures), one of them is one inch long and under my eye. A great place to walk in to get your eyebrows done! I actually got my upper lip, chin, and eyebrows threaded and the whole process took about 45 minutes and cost 35+ dollars. Pros: 1. Staff is welcoming, fun, friendly. 2. You can walk in without an appointment. 3. They are thorough with asking you what you like if they need to shape the eyebrows more, and take feedback seriously throughout the entire process. Cons: 1. I have been seeing Shruti for threading on and off for a few decades. I saw her more often when she was in newton center and used to go to her when she was working somewhere else before she had her own business. I have to say anytime I get an appointment with her I am always happy with her skills and lovely manner. Her work lasts a long time and it's definitely worth spending a bit more for her to do my threading than anyone else. I just saw her last week and have vowed I won't go to anyone else for brows and facial hair removal. She is very talented, has so much experience, and by the time we catch up on our lives the whole thing is finished. She works quickly and I adore seeing her. So I'm only seeing her from now on. As a male, I had never gotten my eyebrows threaded, but the team here knew how to help and attend to my grooming needs, just helping to clean up and trim a bit. The overall effect was slim but it was a peaceful experience and enjoyable!! It was overall $20 including tip. The place was recommended by a friend who also indicated that her technician Shruthi would be on maternity leave for some time. So I was willing to try out one of the other technicians. I explained to this lady that I don't get my eyebrows threaded often and could she just clean it up. Partway through, I noticed a burning sensation on my left eyelid, but the technician kept working. I've of course had threading and plenty of waxing done before and I expected some pain, but when the sharp burning persisted I asked the technician if I was bleeding and she said yes, there was a cut "because you moved suddenly". I don't remember flinching. In any case, she had just been wiping the blood with a tissue and carrying on. Since I was already committed, I let her finish the job. Once she finished, I was able to actually see the cut in the mirror. The technician then kept hedging that my skin was sensitive, that I should have held my skin taut, and then finally that she was sorry about the cut. Never once did she tell me to hold my lids tighter or to not move. The cut was deep enough that it formed a scab that took nearly a week to go away. Totally not worth it if you don't know the individual doing the work. I will not be returning and will not recommend this establishment to anyone. read more

I went here a few months ago and really liked the way my brows looked when Shruti did them. This time I made an appointment with the "master threader" again, expecting she would do my brows again. Instead she had another person in the shop so then because she had a walk in that she knew. The other girl just didn't dona great job shaping my brows and left a lot of stray hairs. I've been threaded, waxed, pierced and tattooed in the name of beauty for years. I've been around. I know what I'm in for, and especially since my first time here was fine... but I had the most unnecessarily painful experience my last time here. I had two threaders work on my eyebrows, and both seemed very inexperienced and unsure. The woman primarily threading my eyebrows left many small abrasions above and below my left eyebrow. It's been two days and they are still visible and bleeding. She was very slow when pulling and so it hurt more than should have. It was an incredibly patchy job to get the stray hairs around my brows. The shape is fine, but I can't advise anyone to come here and see their junior threaders. She needed way more practice and supervision before she should've been allowed to work on clients. read more

I am so so picky with my eyebrows and Shruthi is the best! She pays attention to the details and remembers all the little things you request. She takes her time and you can really tell she strives for quality over quantity. In terms of covid precautions: it is seamless. You enter, sanitize hands and have a temp check. The chair is totally sanitized and the threader is in a 95 mask, second mask, and face shield. Payment is contactless... and the salon completes one customer at a time so you are completely safe. Had a great experience here! The ladies are sweet and the threading isn't painful or uncomfortable at all. I have relatively low maintenance brows so I can't complain much but I liked that I instantly felt better walking out of there knowing that my brows are on fleek. ;) It's a cute space and there was a bit of a wait but they had plenty of seating. I think the regulars were a bit impatient and left saying they would come back another day. The owner said it was unusually busy after having a little dry spell. Honestly, don't go anywhere else. I used to live in Brookline and work in Newton Center, so I found The Beauty Studio out of pure convenience. I now live in JP and work in Back Bay... and still come out to Newton just to come here because nothing else (even in Back Bay) compares. I've never had an even so-so experience here - I'm always impressed and pleased with my brows. Everyone I've worked with (which isn't many - the owner does threading herself, and she has a pretty small team which means you can be confident in anyone you see when you come in) understands brow shaping, is really skilled with the thread (minimal discomfort, minimal time!) and really really sweet and professional. I always get a spot right on their block, parking is easy and it's less than a 5 minute walk from the T stop. Stop debating about it and go to The Beauty Studio. read more

Tip: Save yourself 2 minutes and download the Passport Parking app when parking in Newton at the meter (30 minutes is the standard minimum for most areas). This place is clean and nice inside. The staff is very friendly and there are couches to sit while waiting. I got a clean-up on my brows and I loved how they turned out. Usually I wax these bad boys, but I'm trying to get into the hang of threading. I still don't get why threading seems more painful to me than waxing. The only thing I'm not crazy about is the price. I would go back to get my brows on and popping, but at $17 it's not too budget friendly to me when I usually pay $12 at most threading places. read more
