Just went to the Rusty Taco and ordered a shrimp, steak, and chicken tacos. I was optimistic of this place due to its ambiance. The food was by far a 4/10. The chicken was overcooked along with the steak and shrimp. The tortillas were not proportioned to the food you get within and the pico de gallo was not fresh. Tried this place out the other day. First impression was pretty bad because the music was extremely loud and echoed off the bare walls and concrete floor. No sound attenuation at all. Call it one star because the cashier and I had to raise our voices to hear each other. I ordered three different tacos. One plus is that the breakfast tacos were available all day, not just the morning. However the tacos were very small for $5 each (looks like they're using shrinkflation here too), and the flavors were pretty muted. The brisket for example tasted steamed or baked, which showed no respect for the ingredient. If you serve up brisket you better serve up smoke flavor and a non-mushy texture. This please feels like a fusion taco place like Torchy's, but it comes off a distant second best because Torchy's delivers on both flavor and portion size. Food was a depressing 3 stars. Great concept, we hadn't heard about it until a highway road sign made us google it. Food was delicious, we had many different Tacos and Nachos. The only complaints we had were margaritas that were weak and one restroom out of order. The other working restroom was very dirty and not stocked. You can't beat cheap tacos! This place offers different type of tacos. They have brisket to fish to veggie. The menu selection caters to everyone, which I really liked. Plus, the price is reasonable ($2-$3). I ordered the Rajas, Crispy Fish, and Crispy Shrimp tacos. The tacos were small, but I thought the proportion was good. My favorite was the crispy shrimp taco because it had the best flavor. That creamy baja sauce was really good! My least favorite was the Rajas. It was underwhelming and didn't have a lot of flavors. I also order a margarita and chips and guac. Both were decent. If you're looking for authentic street tacos, then this place is not for you. This place is located in a shopping plaza next to Nektar, menu is definitely not authentic at all and probably catered to more American audience (imo) The taco tortilla broke easily, the meat was very tough and not marinated in any way. Used to love this place! The Team Fave taco was amazing and the Philly! They reduced the menu, upped the prices, and reduced the quality of the food. I completely understand the need to cut costs and make profit. Many companies and business's are needing to do this. However, pick one to cut at first and see how that does. You cut everything (there was only 2 staff working and the guy there says they laid a bunch off) at once and you will lose the customers you need to keep your business profitable. Went today with my daughter and the tacos were hard and stale, 2 small pieces of chicken in the Team Fav, 2 small cuts of shrimp and a ton of slaw in the shrimp dynamite, and the prices went from $2.50-$3 up to $5 for each. Came here to refuel after goat yoga, my favorite Gilbert activity! There's actually a rusty taco opening up close to where I live but I was getting impatient to try it! I got two rajas tacos, one with potatoes added, and a black bean taco. They were all good! The black bean taco had too many pumpkin seeds on it but otherwise very good. My fiancé got brisket tacos and he loved them. We shared chips with queso and salsa. The salsa was yummy and queso was pretty good! It was a big portion of queso, we couldn't finish it. The only reason this is getting 4 stars is because it closes way too early on Friday and Saturday nights. 9 o'clock! Fourth graders stay up later than 9 pm. We stopped by Rusty Taco for lunch today and ordered chips and queso and three tacos (grilled fish taco, picadillo taco, and the uptown stacked taco). The restaurant was clean and tables cleared and blocked off to accommodate social distancing. The restaurant is taking needed precautions and it is appreciated. Salsa is available when asked, rather than being self serve - a nice touch at this time. Service was friendly and efficient. There was a minor issue in applying a coupon, but once brought up, the staff handled it quickly. Their level of service was top notch during our service. The food was good, but not great. They queso tasted a little Velveeta-ish, and didn't have much inherent flavor, but the portion was generous. The tacos were all good, but none were great as was the salsa. While the core flavors were good, they were simple, with no complex sauces or spices. The fried chicken in my uptown stacked was cold, and it all felt very American - or Tex-Mex at best. I was full after my three tacos, and some chips and queso, but at over $10 per person, defiantly not a value location. Review should really be 3.5 stars, so I rounded up due to the service I received. I would go back if invited, but not in a hurry to go back on my own. read more
