The food was OK overall. The horchata was good, but I found the street tacos to be pretty expensive for their size. They were just too tiny for my liking, especially considering the prices. In my opinion, the prices are a little steep for what you get. That said, the great service, convenient location, and easy parking make this a solid spot. We stopped by here for dinner, and there was no wait inside to order. The drive-thru line was packed, and several people were picking up to-go orders. I tried the bean and cheese tostada for the first time. It was really good, though a bit cheesier than I prefer. It's definitely an item best enjoyed fresh in the restaurant. I would consider ordering it again. The place was clean, and the staff was friendly. I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience at Backyard Taco was unacceptable. I ordered a quesadilla, and while eating it I found a hair in my food. It was disgusting, I immediately stopped eating and had to pull the hair out from between my teeth before spitting out the bite. That's why the hair is no longer visible in the food itself. I took both photos and a video immediately afterward before throwing the food away. You can clearly see that the meal was not finished. The worst part was how the situation was handled. I called the restaurant to let them know what happened, but they could barely hear me on the phone. On top of that, the employee I spoke with had a dismissive attitude and even insinuated that I had eaten the entire meal, which was completely false. If I had, I wouldn't have had photos and videos showing exactly what happened. I was already on my way to an event and didn't have time to drive all the way back just to prove there was hair in my food. Instead of using basic critical thinking and understanding that customers have schedules and legitimate reasons they can't immediately return, they chose to assume I was being dishonest. That kind of response shows a serious lack of critical thinking skills, professionalism, and customer service. If keeping my $8 was more important than making things right, then they can have it. I won't be returning to this location. Food safety and customer service should be priorities, and unfortunately, this experience showed a lack of both. I would recommend thinking twice before visiting this location. read more

When you just need to crush a burrito this place delivers. We had a day - hiking outside of Tucson on a trek beyond our skill set, paired with getting stuck on the highway behind an accident. You know that kind of day. You get back in town and most places are closed, but not backyard taco! Ordered an Al pastor burrito, my boyfriend got three tacos, followed by a second order of an Al pastor quesadilla. (I think he was jealous of my burrito ordering genius in this moment). This place is one of the best in the East Valley. Starting with that Mesquite charcoal flavor that they grill with. You really can't go wrong with any meat that they serve, but the Carne Asada is my favorite. You have to try the crazy potato. It's just like a perfect baked potato filled with Carne Asada. Well if you choose that meat, and they add melted cheese onto it it's just perfect. They really make everything fresh in house. And their salsa is one of my favorites! read more

So we came here late last night! They were surprisingly busy which is always a good sign. The staff was super organized, we had never been to the guy who assisted us had some excellent recommendations. We went with the chicken tacos and the steak tacos with a side of chips and salsa. It was all so good, a bit messy but I'd totally do it again. The place was super clean, spotless which is not what I expect from a good taco shop but they exceeded out expectations! The salsa bar alone is worth coming back for, we'll be back! read more

Sadly, the tacos were very disappointing. I ordered carne asada. It was 2:00 pm. The meat tasted like shoe leather. Extremely dry and tough like it had been under a lamp all last week and put out again today. This is supposed to be the star of the dish and was awful. Love this place! Which they had one closer to Ahwatukee. We get the steak and chicken tacos and the delicious baked potatoes. Their flan is a little more like flan cheesecake texture instead of actual flan. Wish they had chips and queso. The black and whole beans don't have lard and are delicious. Went here with my family to try it out. It's super clean inside and they have an amazing open bar area to grab pico, salsas etc. The overall price seemed reasonable as I ended up grabbing the bowl with the carne asada. The amount of meat was decent but the toppings were really good and fresh. The beef itself tasted good and didn't seem overcooked at all. I did go to the salsa and guacamole bar area several times as they included great chips (unlimited with what we ordered). Overall, I'd highly recommend trying this place out! read more

Everytime I ask for no lettuce or onion or for sauces they get it wrong, it's been like this for two years, I don't know how this keeps happening when I confirm it with the cashier, for this order I asked three times if they could take the onion and lettuce off and they didn't. I actually love this place a lot. I've been to a couple locations and BOTH had wonderful integration between indoor and outdoor seating which take advantage of our beautiful weather. The lighting is lovely and makes this place a great evening dining spot to enjoy Arizonas warm nights with a comfortable, casual atmosphere. The food is good as it comes but it is what you make it and the taco bar makes it very easy to customize to your taste. I will say I'm normally a salsa verde person but their spicy salsa roja is where it's at. Lastly the flan gave me the happy wiggles. Mega yum. read more

Quite possibly the best birria taco I've had! The carne asada was just ok. I would 100% return for the birria taco. They have a huge salsa bar with tons of salsas, cucumbers, limes and radishes. Highly recommend getting a bag of chips to munch on as well. Very good and we will be back! read more

Good place for tacos and it was near our home. When we came here on 6/30/21, there was no cars in the drive thru. We ordered 4 carne asada tacos ($2.90), 2 al pastor ($2.65), and 2 pollo ($2.65). It was made pretty quickly and we were on our way. The tacos all tasted delicious to me and we definitely ordered the right amount since it hit the spot. There were other things on the menu like burritos that I wanted to try on the menu. We came at a later date to try the carne asada burritos and those were delicious.
