So my wife and I went to Rusty Taco Monday evening. They were busy, always a good sign. My wife ordered the #1 and the Spicy Fried Chicken Taco, I ordered 2 of the Spicy Fried Taco's. I ordered a large order of Queso and Chips to go with our meal. Which was a mistake. The tacos are of a decent size 2 will fill you up. Mine were fantastic and Janna enjoyed hers as well. Stopped by last night while visiting family in PHX area and saw that nachos have returned to the menu; the brisket nachos used to be a favorite a few years ago and were big enough to be a meal by themselves for at least 2 or 3 people. Unfortunately, quality and quantity didn't return with the nachos. My order was heavy on the chips, really heavy on the bbq sauce, light on cheese, and not much more than a sprinkle of brisket. Chips and queso would have been a more economical choice. The restaurant was also nearly empty at 7:15pm but tables weren't cleaned, and during our 30 minute visit we saw no attempts to clean them. Overall another disappointment from this restaurant that used to be almost a daily visit while we were in the area. Rusty Taco was just ok. Nothing truly exciting or unique. The meat to toppings ratio was off and none of the ingredients tasted fresh. The cauliflower taco was much better than the meat taco but both lacked seasoning. Service was good though and food came out quickly. read more

I enjoyed eating at the Rusty Taco at Scottsdale and I thought this place would be just as good. However I was wrong because my girlfriend got food poisoning a few hours after eating here. I ordered 3 original fried chicken tacos with flour tortillas. We also ordered some churros. They were good but I could care less at the moment. My girlfriend ordered the vegetarian bean taco and breakfast taco with potatoes. My girlfriend is vegetarian and because of that I never expected her to get food poisoning but after she got sick and queasy and starting barfing all night to the point that she could not get up and away from the toilet and do anything. We concluded that she has salmonella and it was because there was cross contamination with our orders and that the kitchens were not cleaned during the making of our orders. We understand that places can make mistakes and that is fine and normal. We are not the kind of people to jump to conclusions. However, all signs point to this place being the sole reason why my girlfriend has salmonella and because of how bad the food poisoning was for her, she has become scarred to go out to eat again and I don't blame her at all. Last 4 visits they did not get my order correct. Being vegan I asked for no cheese and every time it showed up with cheese. Staff was nice and remade my meal each time. Food is always good and highly recommended. Complaint is tables and floors are filthy. They are not cleaned properly and a simple repaint of the picnic tables would go a long way in appearance. Just went to the Rusty Taco and ordered a shrimp, steak, and chicken tacos. I was optimistic of this place due to its ambiance. The food was by far a 4/10. The chicken was overcooked along with the steak and shrimp. The tortillas were not proportioned to the food you get within and the pico de gallo was not fresh. When o found Rusty taco we started going quite often. After cinco de mayo, they did massive changes to their menu, got rid of a lot of good stuff. Can't get tacos as a salad anymore. Gilbert isn't my scene, but they always get some new and exciting places to open up. I was looking forward to coming here after attending a school concert nearby. Call it one star because the cashier and I had to raise our voices to hear each other. I ordered three different tacos. One plus is that the breakfast tacos were available all day, not just the morning. However the tacos were very small for $5 each (looks like they're using shrinkflation here too), and the flavors were pretty muted. The brisket for example tasted steamed or baked, which showed no respect for the ingredient. If you serve up brisket you better serve up smoke flavor and a non-mushy texture. This please feels like a fusion taco place like Torchy's, but it comes off a distant second best because Torchy's delivers on both flavor and portion size. Food was a depressing 3 stars. The service was really good - the girls were attentive and checked in. I ordered the steak Fajita taco and the breakfast taco (eggs, bacon, taters, cheese). The breakfast taco was basic, it was totally edible, but easy to replicate or improve anywhere else. The steak taco was disappointing. The menu said it was skirt steak, however it looked and tasted more like balls of ground beef. On the plus side they have beer and margaritas.
