I am not one to hit up chains regularly but I do have exceptions. I went to an exception for tacos recently, let's face it, we are talkinbouttacos so you have to go if you have heard good things. Plus tacos. We went to The Rusty Taco based on some recommendations and the fact we were hungry and it was close. Service - Rusty Taco is similar to several restaurants now and in the fast-casual model. You order at the counter and when your food is ready you pick it up. That is pretty standard, however as we had never been here before we were taking some time to review the menu - they have several options and combos to choose from here. As we were reviewing the menu the tacoista- not sure if that is a word but I'm going for it - asked if we had any questions. I had a couple and she was awesome she gave us a few recommendations and told us what folks have enjoyed as well as what was popular (not always the same things). I was pretty happy with what I had picked but she talked me into trying another option with her guidance. Atmosphere - your standard brightly lit, lots of windows, tables, and chairs fast-casual place. Nothing particularly great or poor. They do have an outside seating area which is nice to use in the weather. Value - we ordered chips and salsa as well as two tacos each. I had the chicken fajita taco and the Rusty Taco employee's favorite crunchy chicken. My wife also had the chicken fajitas but went with the Rusty Taco - which is a carnitas style taco. We both really enjoyed our tacos and said we would love to come back and try others. The chips were good as well and the salsa was tasty. I would recommend the Pico if that is your thing as it was very fresh and had a tiny bit of zing to it. Location - As it is a chain there are several locations throughout the US. We went to the one in Gilbert, AZ. Rating - talkin bout tacos. 1 to 5 taco rating. I'll give them a 4. Nothing wrong overall, very good just not "the best eva'" but still worth going and checking out. read more

This place wasn't bad, but Compared to other taco places around here it's not great either The best taco on tue menu is the Baja shrimp taco, and while they're good, it's because they're covered with a sweet aioli which I personally feel is a cop out. I was in the area and decided to stop in because TACOS!!! These are aren't your authentic Mexican tacos but the 2 I ordered were good. I was also happy w the kids meals that they offer. There only 2 but they were $2-2.50 which was a steal in my book. Got my kiddo the chicken and potatoes and was perfect for him. It didn't come w a drink but that's okay! I got myself: Brisket Taco - yum! Topped w cotija cheese, onion and cilantro. Spicy chicken taco - whoa! Definitely had a kick and lathered in sauce. Was spicy but edible spicy for me. Rusty Taco is a chain out of Dallas that is now spreading to Phoenix. They have a large number of street taco style options. The prices are very reasonable, the service is prompt, and the menu offers variety while keeping it basically to tacos, quesadillas, and nachos. They do have beer and wine along with a few draft options. I had a grilled fish taco and chicken fajita taco that were both great, however the fried chicken taco was bland and dried out. By far, my favorite was the fried shrimp. Some crunch on the outside and some juicy. Fried fish was a bit on the dry side for me. I do love drenching the taco in the spicy salsa. Love the spicy sauce salsa all kept in the fridge. Love the inside seating set up. They even have seating in bar fashion looking over the grills. Fast service. Got my tacos within 7mins or so of sitting down. Food made fresh in front of you eyes. Big parking lot since it's in this shopping area. Pricing is on the slightly pricey side and varies depending on what taco you get out of their long taco menu. But doable. Apparently the chips are good. but didn't get them this round. Yum yum! I've driven passed here several times going to Trader Joe's and the mall. Finally stopped in for lunch with a friend. The girl working the register was friendly and helpful answering my questions. Due to her recommendation my friend and I had sharred the churros (which btw only come as two pieces so sharring is not recommended ) which are amazing! They are filled with caramel and tasted so fresh! I had also had a chicken fajita taco and fried chicken taco. Both tasted really good! Tacos with a lot of flavor and even more filling the tortilla. The dynamite breaded shrimp taco is my "go to" choice. Lots of fresh avocado, good heat, and the shrimp are perfect every time. This place has great tacos! Not the cheapest place for tacos, but they're delicious! I Will definitely be coming back to try more. The chips and salsa is a great size for sharing. Tacos wise; I tried the Dynamite Shrimp, Baja Shrimp, . All are were very good, but my favorites were the shrimp one choices by far. So good! Also tried the Margherita, which was excellent as well! I've been to this location once while I was in a hurry and grabbed two grilled fish tacos to go. They were excellent! Fresh and flavorful. However, today I had a craving for fish tacos, so, I returned. I ordered the same grilled fish, plus one deep fried cod, and one grilled shrimp. Unfortunately, the fish in both tacos was old, not fresh at all! Chewy, dry and hard like it had been sitting in the fridge exposed all night--dare I say maybe even a couple of nights. Very disappointed. The grilled shrimp looked like frozen baby shrimp they heated up, not grilled fresh. Yet, the taco sauce and tomotillo salsa are brilliant and yummy. Perhaps it was what covered up the fish the first time I visited this location? Hmmmm. Everything else was on par, which isn't saying much--the cilantro and cabbage were delicious! The corn tortillas, perfect! I will mention the customer service here is fabulous. I gotta give them credit for that. Maybe next time I'll try chicken or something else, but never will return for a fish taco craving! read more

Really a 3.5 but I'll round up to 4. They're tacos are pretty tasty and fairly priced. We got 5 tacos with chips and queso for 20$. The BBQ Brisket was the best of my three. I also had the beef fajita which was good, and the grilled shrimp which was nice and spicy but the shrimp was fairly tasteless. My wife enjoyed the steak breakfast taco but said too much egg, and the chorizo taco was pretty spicy for her. The queso has a real gritty texture to it which was a little off putting, but their salsa was VERY good! Oh and they're served on corn tortillas, I'll have to remember next time to ask for flour. This has become our new go to for tacos. Order from a counter and take a seat. They have a nice selection of street tacos and usually a few specials. After a short wait your name is called from a sometimes loud and awkward PA system and you get to retrieve your taco goodness. I usually order 3 tacos. This time I ordered the Baja shrimp fried (#8), fried chicken (#10) and Rusty Taco (#9). I substituted for flour tortillas and they were all amazing. I love the selection of salsas from the refrigerator you can grab and use. We ordered chips with salsa, queso, and guacamole. My mother in law was raving about the salsa. We ran out of chips but Brandon was nice enough to give us a free refill. Keep up the great work here, you are doing great things! read more

This is my second time at Rusty Taco. The first time I got take out & was not impressed but some restaurants aren't always good 15 minutes later so I didn't review it. We stopped in today for a quick lunch and it's still a solid 3 stars. The chips & salsa were good! And we shared 4 tacos. The brisket taco was dry but ok. The fried fish taco only had 2 pieces of fish. It was ok. The shrimp taco was ok but had a lot of the sauce on it. The rusty taco was our favorite. We have definitely had better tacos but it's good enough we'd come back for a quick, cheap lunch. read more

It's not groundbreaking to stick a chicken strip inside a tortilla. And brisket? I'm from Texas, there is nothing that resembles brisket in the 'brisket' taco I had. The color of the queso alone made me gag. In what universe is cheese that color? The chips were great, though, I'll give them that. There are 10 authentic taco places within five miles of this travesty. They are authentic and fresh and absolutely all-the-way authentic Mexican. This is like dressing your wiener dog in a hot dog costume and trying to convince people he's really a hot dog. He's not. This is not a taco place just because they have tortillas. Ick. I LOVED Rustys (previous 5/5) but they recently went through a MAJOR price increase. $5/taco? Absolutely not. Especially when the tacos now only come with 1 flour tortilla instead of 2. So not only is my taco completely falling apart, but I'm paying $2 additional dollars for less food. The Queso is the best tasting, but they no longer offer a large. Instead they offer a $5 small option. Once again paying more for less food. I paid $10 today for queso. TEN DOLLARS?!? I get it - inflation, but passing ALL the expenses on to the end consumer is complete BS and it is not justifiable. read more
