I came here for brunch to celebrate my friend's amazing news, her engagement! We were seated indoors at the upper level next to the outside seating area (which was unfortunately still wet from the rain but looked really nice). I felt bad that we were too busy catching up that when our waitress returned we didn't have our orders ready. The staff was beyond attentive and patient with us. Answered our questions about the menu without hesitation and checked in on us during the meal. We finally ordered the Shrimp n Grits, Banana French Toast and Eggs Benedict. The first two were delicious, french toast was sweet and shrimp n grits hearty. The third was also good but seemed overcooked at first. Once my friend got to the middle of the egg then it started to ooze that yolky goodness. Im proud to say we cleared our plate willingly. My only qualm was the $6 for 3 pieces of bacon which granted I didn't need but was a want for any breakfast of mine. Wish it came with the toast at least and wasn't a separate order. Honorable mentions were the drinks and they were very very very good. I absolutely loved my spiked lemonade. Definitely a 4.7 meal.

Went for my birthday dinner and was a nice vibe. The waitress was top tier and attentive

I came here for brunch on a Sunday. The restaurant had a warm, welcoming vibe and we immediately felt at home. Vibrant art adorned the walls. The restaurant has a split level. We sat towards the back in the upper section. To drink, they were out of the sangria so I had the greyhound cocktail. It was fruity and juicy, but didn't really taste like grapefruit. My partner got the sidecar and enjoyed the tangy flavor. To eat, I ordered the omelet with avocado. I found a piece of plastic in my dish so they had to remake it. This was unfortunate but after the fix, I enjoyed the food. The omelet was loaded with veggies and tasted fresh. The breakfast potatoes were well seasoned. For dessert, we shared the peach cobbler. It was topped with a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream. It was delicious, with a crispy top layer and large peach slices. Despite the issue with my entree, I'd recommend this place. All of the food looked great as it was passing by for other tables. The playlist included Sade and Keyshia Cole so it's definitely a vibe for weekend brunch.

I've been here a few times in my travels to Brooklyn. I cannot say that I haven't been pleased. Each time the experience is better than the last, and interestingly enough I abandon my need to have the same meal as I so often do. The service is always top tier, the food delicious, and it's an all around great atmosphere and vibe for a time out with friends or an intimate date. Brunch or dinner, you won't be disappointed, or at least I haven't. Can't wait to return.

Came here for Brunch with my niece and we had a good time. We opted to seat in the back outside, the weather was nice and it's covered. The wait staff was pleasant and quick. Especially with them mimosas...Grreat job!!! Lol Honestly my only issue was my steak was small and thin. However, the menu did not indicate steak ounces so that's on me. I should have asked...lol! Overall a good time also the musical selection was good!!

Love this spot so much! I wish it were closer because I'd be there ALL THE TIME! Went here after church one day with a girlfriend. We had a great time! The food was hot and delicious, the mimosa was mimosa'ing and the music playing was on point! It was quite busy due to beautiful weather we were having that day so it took a little while to get the waiters' attention even with a reservation. However, it was worth the wait. We ordered the shrimp tostones I believe it was called for our appetizer, my friend had the chicken and waffles, while I had the shrimp and grits. The appetizer was an eclectic dish of cooked shrimp atop fried green plantains, with pickled cabbage, carrots and avocado. It packed a punch but it was delicious and a great starting plate. My friend said she enjoyed her food but that the chicken had a bit more salt than needed but it was fine otherwise. My shrimp and grits were delectable! I tore that up! It was in the dish and then it wasn't, lol. I wish they had free refills on it because I would've easily devoured another serving! Lol. The mimosa carafe we had was made with love. The champagne was kickin! Left there feeling like I was floating but in the best way! Not drunk, not tipsy, just nice! I hope to be back very soon with more friends!

Nice glass of Chenin Blanc. Deciding on food.

Finally got a chance to pop in here. I've heard nothing but good things about Rustik Tavern. Black Owned Business is always a highlight for me. Please be advised this review reflects a happy hour experience, not a busy dinner/brunch. Upon entering there are high tops to the left and regular seating along the left wall. Walking further in you have the bar to the right with seating. There are separate men's & women's bathrooms past the bar (one at a time). Towards the back is another level for seating and an outdoor seating area. AC works! There are hooks at the bar to hand your belongings. This place believes in happy hour (4pm-7pm for select wines and cocktails). Ray served me at the bar. Greeted me when I walked in and was attentive throughout my time here. I had a glass of the Chenin Blanc, the Rustik Pink Lemonade (vodka based), a spicy tequila cocktail, and the Shrimp Avocado Tostones. The lemonade went down waaayyy too easy, so be careful. Ray customized my tequila drink to make it extra spicy! was pleasantly surprised about the food because I did not know how these flavors were going to turn out. Shrimp was fully cooked & flavorful, the tostones were tostone'ing (Garlic and salt were just right) and the avocado spread was a great mix to bring the whole thing together. As far as the vibe, music is just the right volume to fall in to the flow but still have a conversation. A nice playlist of soul/neo-soul/house to just make you feel at ease while here. Not any identifiable con's on my first visit. I'll be back here again. Hopefully for brunch.

Found this place on instagram and decided to have mini (9 yr) reunion brunch with a friend here. The service was absolutely phenomenal and the food was SO tasty. There were tons of options but we kept it pretty casual and opted out of the bottomless mimosa. There's also plenty of outdoor seating in the back so keep this place in mind if you have a larger party to accommodate for your next dinner/brunch gathering.

Had a chance to get back to the Rustic today. The food was great and the ladies were in charge.

This is my 3rd time at Rustik. Unfortunately, my least favorite. I came here for brunch and everything was just ok. Made a reservation on Yelp and really didn't need to. On a Saturday at about 1pm there were plenty of seats. I arrived and there was no one at the hostess stand but my friend was already seated so I walked over to her. I'm not sure what I expected but was sort of disappointed with the brunch Menu. I hadn't been there in years but thought there was more on the menu. I ordered a Bellini and a chicken and waffles. The bellini was fine. The chicken and waffles were just ok. The chicken looked so sad. I was expecting bone in chicken but got boneless chicken. The chicken had flavor but didnt feel freshly cooked. The waffles were soft. I usually like my waffles to be crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. What kind of made it worse for me was another table arrived after us and recieved their chicken and waffles and the chicken was hot and fresh. My chicken looked totally different then theirs. So there clearly was an inconsistency with the cook. Towards the end it got a little busy and service got slower. All in all, wasn't the best experience for brunch.

I did not have a favorable experience here, unfortunately. Even before my arrival, I was slightly bothered by my mother being forced to sit outside for about 25-30 minutes before I got here. I was going out with my mother and she got there before me-- she called me while I was driving over because the hostess informed her you needed a reservation and they had no openings until after 3PM. I found this peculiar; I decided to look quickly online and saw a 1:30 and 1:45 reservation time. I attempted to call, but it was too many prompts to actually get a human. Ultimately I arrived and I go speak to the hostess and she offered me a seat at the bar, but I declined. She said to give her a second and she came back and told me I could be seated. I saw a couple of tables empty outside. In addition, within 10 minutes all but three tables were unoccupied-- so I was confused at to what the difficulty was in seating my mother. By this point, I'm slightly perturbed, but both the hostess and server were very nice and cordial. We order rather quickly and the food doesn't take very long to come out. We both ordered a few sides and I had a drink (Sidecar), which was decent. I had eggs, grits and home fries-- none of the food items were anything to write home about. My mother wasn't pleased with her similar items-- I believe she said her grits had onions, which she found weird. The ambiance in the back was decent and the music playing inside was okay, but overall I wasn't pleased with anything aside from the server and hostess being personable.

Olivia B.

Cute brunch spot! We made reservations in advance for 11. They weren't completely open at 11 but were seated a bit after. Our server was amazing! She was so attentive and nice, we really appreciated it! The food came out quickly. Food was okay, I would give it a 3/5. The bottomless breakfast drinks are awesome! You can do Bellinis or mimosas as well for select cocktails. Drinks were great, 5/5! Fun brunch stop in Brooklyn.

Really good food. Great atmosphere. The bottomless brunch is truly bottomless. We never had to ask! Our server, Ashley, was quick, friendly and welcoming. I had the shrimp and grits and it was so yummy!!! Can't wait to come back again! The outside seating in the back of the restaurant looked spacious and it also had a covering so even if it rained you'd be able to sit there which is nice! I'll try that next time. I need to preface this by saying that I was originally trying to get a reservation at Piquant. They were so unprofessional and ridiculous with their "rules" thatI had to look for another venue. I am so glad we did. Aside from making the reservation process super easy, the brunch (a birthday celebration for my fiancé) was superb!!! The venue is exquisite. A lovely ambiance, clean and cozy. The music is great and the service, perfectly seamless. Keith was our host/server for the brunch and he was beyond pleasant and courteous. The food (had the chicken and waffles) was perfection. In short (a little late for that, I know) this is THE place to come for Sunday Brunch. We are planning to return to make use of the back patio. Love this place, and thank you guys for a wonderful experience. read more

The bartender June is great. Attentive to everyone and right on time!! The vibe here is very chill and comfortable. The wait was long (no surprise being that it's Sunday) so my friends and I grabbed a seat at the bar. I ordered bacon, French toast and home fries. Wasnt too fond of the French toast because it tastes pre-made, or like boxed or something. The baby red potatoes are slammminggg. Loveeee. My friends got salmon eggs and home fries, they were satisfied. Would def come back again for a third time. Thumbs up read more

It was my first time at this restaurant and I had decided to celebrate my birthday here because I heard so many good things about this place. I did not have a good experience here and the customer service was unbearable. I would say that the server Ashely did a great job. Ashely did make me feel good but for some of the staff members they need more customer service training. The host was okay at the door. I would go into details but there is too many issues that I had encountered and I had found unacceptable. I would not be coming back to this restaurant. read more

Terrible experience. Arrived at 5:30 pm. Waited 20 minutes, no one asked me if I wanted to order. Friends arrived another 20 passed no waiter. When waitress came there were issues with our order. Food wasn't great, just meh. Not a good dining experience. Explained to the waitress the various issues with the service. Her response "I'm sorry you feel that way" Later the owner came. Explained the various service issues to him but, he was rudely indifferent and straight walked away. Do yourself a favor. Go somewhere else. There are plenty of good places to eat in the area with better service that would appreciate your money. I gave one star because no stars was not an option. read more

Wow, I came her from Florida and they canceled the reservation that was made 3 weeks in advance. We didn't get a phone call or email and showed up as we had normally scheduled. We get there the door is open and we walk in and yell a couple of times no one is there and of course we are shocked because it's 3:15pm on Saturday (holiday weekend) no one is there. The amount of unprofessionalism here is quite shocking. The fact that the door wasn't even locked and the fact that once again we weren't notified and now we are nervous because what's going on here? We yell out and hear nothing so now we are thinking did they get robbed? We get so concerned we call the local authorities. The police investigate and now magically people are there (staff) who inform the cops that they were closed and be opening at 5pm. So now we go back again because as I stated before we are visiting from Florida and I'm like ok maybe we can get some brunch and let them know we are concerned. Ladies and Gentlemen I was completely wrong! We go back and not only does the hostess (who has magically) appeared tell us no and I believe she called the owner who didn't even apologize for the inconvenience but she finally admitted that they won't be open at all. I will never patronize this place again. We also saw people coming from NJ who weren't notified as well. Again, no respect for your time. Apparently someone said there was no chefs were available, now if the chefs don't show up you know something is completely wrong! read more

Usually Rustik is my go to spot for brunch and for this reason I chose to pick this place to celebrate my sons graduation. Unfortunately this experience was way under satisfactory. I arrived for my 7pm reservation and within the first 15 minutes we placed our orders. As I am writing this review it is now 8:32pm and my party still does not have their food. After bringing this to our waiters attention he replied with insulting comments such as " you didn't order appetizer,...you saw me pass before and didn't say anything... they are paying money(in regards to another party getting there food. As if we aren't paying)". Unfortunately I believe this will be my last time at this establishment. read more

I am sort of a regular here- I've lived out of state for some years now, but always come here whenever I'm home for a jaunt. Anyway, the place has changed much since I was here last- and for the better. Let me start by saying that despite the changes and improvements its overall aesthetic has remained true to its moniker, and was truly impressed with what I saw. Indoor seating is charming (that's not code for anything) and quasi- intimate. There is however, more secluded seating as you head out back. The owner(s) have done much to improve the rear outdoor area; adding the lattice work and pergola encourages al fresco dining on hot and sunny days and the wall art was a nice touch as well- bringing character to rear and conjoining both indoor & outdoor spaces into a more aesthetically cohesive unit. The music is always poppin', the waitstaff, always friendly and engaging. I cannot critique cocktails etc because I'm usually a hard liquor/ no chaser kinda gal *fluffs hair* rendering my opinion subjective, here. But their drink price list is reasonable. The fried calamari is the only item I have tried and it was delicious. Peeping at adjacent tables, the food appears to be beautifully presented and I've yet to hear a complaint about taste so... read more

A hip whole in the wall in Bed Stuy. The crowd is older and mature. Live DJ, played 90s rap. and reggae later on. Dimmed lights. Art decor pays homage to some legends in music...MJ, Biggie, Bob Marley etc. The food was tasty...the menu had a wide variety of choices; American fare. I had the fried shrimp which was delicious, turkey burger stuffed with blue cheese, and the Willoughby wings. The turkey burger was not bad... just different with the blue cheese mixed into the meat. The drinks were good in the first round but tasted like medicine ... kinda syrupy the second round . Everything was reasonably priced. I would recommend it for a easy night out if you live in that area. read more

Came here with a group of 8 on a Thursday night. Service was NOT good at all in general. Me and my party was seated for over an hour without food, one person in my party ordered a salad! (How long should that take?) While waiting we ordered two rounds of drinks. We was scared the waitress wouldn't come back to our table before happy hour was over, that's how long she took to check on us. Our food FINALLY arrived and half way through eating a burger my friend found a piece of metal in her burger. The owner handled the situation VERY well. He was very professional and caring. Our experience was bad. But this place has such a good vibe and great music, I'll come back maybe for drinks not food! P.S I didn't eat my burger I lost my appetite but the fries was good. read more

Food was great. I ordered the chicken and waffles and the chicken happened to be very juicy...which I obviously loved!! Another great thing about this establishment was our server, Keith. He was absolutely knowledgeable about the menu and guided us in the right direction. My girlfriend order the steak and eggs which she raved about. We also order deviled eggs and a shrimp Caesar salad which was too die for. Happy with service and food which is hard to come by. read more

They sat our party (a group of 5) in the back in this corner that was right next to the server's station. The seating was the worst part of the dining experience. We asked to be moved on multiple occasions because we felt cramped, and were even promised to be moved. We were never moved. The servers would bump into the table AND members of our party as they would come & go. Their cocktail and beer list was out of date and unavailable, and their servers' knowledge of what WAS actually available was inconsistent at best. We asked for hot water that took an extensive amount of time to be brought to the table because "it had to be boiled." When the water was finally brought to the table, there were unknown particles floating in the water. The steak was tough, flavorless, and unappetizing. We had a vegetarian in our party who ordered the kale salad which was unpalatable. However, despite the negative experience, the music selection was fantastic. The chef did a great job with the bacon and eggs. There's outdoor seating so it probably would be more enjoyable in the spring and/or summertime, but it was a huge disappointment. read more

Had 3 bartenders for a pretty small bar and none noticed my cup of water was empty for 20 min; not to mention one of them really didn't want to be there or is a super introvert and just there to make the drink and bye; would have hoped they tried a bit more to have a conversation or explain the philosophy/idea behind the bar/drinks etc (i mean i am paying 20% tip and it's a service industry) 2) The Awakening (tiramisu) was not that great; was on the sour side - maybe because of the chosen espresso beans which may be arabica, but wasn't pleasant; gave an impression of soured milk and coffee. Also the frozen ice cream just doesnt fit; more like a frozen affogato or sour klondike bar than a tiramisu Net net, still a great new place and perfect for dates, but not as strong on the service and desserts

Came for drinks. Stayed all night. November 1st, 2014. Guys Night. My friend suggested Rustik to me a few months ago but since I no longer live in NY, I knew it would be a minute before I checked it out. When suggestions were being tossed around on where we should celebrate Guys Night- I suggested Rustik and the guys agreed. Let me start by saying this spot is in the cut. It's on Dekalb Avenue but its far up on Dekalb away from the other nightlife. And it's a small, unassuming location as well. If you were driving, you could easily overlook it. I was the first guy to arrive at the bar and was a bit nervous to go inside because you can't see inside from outside and after seeing a bunch of people enter I figured it was crowded inside. Once my friend arrived we both stepped in and were pleasantly surprised at what we saw. Rustik is a small to medium sized establishment that makes EXCELLENT use of the space they have. Once you enter, immediately to your right is the seating area. Not many tables, but if you are lucky enough to snag one of the seats, do so because they are very comfortable and communal style to encourage long stays and conversation. Those tables were all taken so my friend and I grabbed one of the few remaining spots at the bar (on your left). The bar offers your typical selection of midshelf alcohol with everything to choose from: wine, beer, hard liquor and cocktails. I have a glass of Pinot Noir and my friend had a Rum & Coke. $18. A little steep. Definitely Manhattan-like prices. However upon his first sip my friend said "Damn! You think they could actually give me some Coke in my Rum and Coke?" That is definitely a plus for a bar! Once all the guys had arrived we relocated to one of the tables and ordered food. Three of the people at the table had the Salmon Burger, I had the Beef Burger and my other friend had the Chicken Fingers platter. Throw in a few sides of steak fries, steak and buffalo wings and we had a pretty good thing going on. The food, we all agreed, was excellent. No complaints. Food arrived in a timely manner. Fresh. Very satisfied we all were. Our original plan was to start the night at Rustik and then head into the City for the main event. However, it was a rainy, cold evening and nobody really wanted to leave the comfort of Rustik. So we stayed and stayed some more. And ordered a few more rounds of drinks and stayed some more. Then we paid our bill and still we all sat, chatting away, comfortable, happy and warm inside Rustik. Our night started at 5:30PM and we left at 9:30PM. Will I return? You bet! I can't wait to take my wife there on a date! Highly recommended! read more

this place doesn't deserve a star at all. the people that gave this place a good review need to have there heads examined, you must be friends with the owner. the staff and management reminded more of the special olympics of bars.SHOULD I EVEN GO THROUGH MY EXPERIENCES THERE ? yes people i said experiences i have been there on more than one occasion.my 1st experience was not one to be forgotten, i had two birthday parties waiting for what they call food, from experience i believe they make you wait so that u are parched to near agonizing death so that u have no choice but to run a 200$ (u.k) tab on watered down drinks that are poured with a eye dropper .after a two hour wait finally the entrees arrive, nothing is fresh everything taste like it came out of the can. event the wings . not to mention that when our food arrived, me and and my date are 99.9% sure that the waitress broke wind during her exit from the table leaving a nice little gift at the table with us, hows that for decor.as u can see this review could take some time to write so to make a long story short,2nd visit because i live two blocks from the place i was walking pass some nice looking girls going in and decided what the heck bought a drink that was twice the price and half the size.i hung for about 20 mins and who coming strolling in but the police and i mean a lot of police accompanied by the health department don' t know what was about but i got the hell out of there i think i did a good job of not swearing but, that place is a damn good looking shit hole read more

This place just made me sad. It looks so promising from the outside and the website was creative and cute yet maybe a little hokey but at least they put effort into it. When you walk in there is this beautiful old butchers meat locker that is storing cases of soda etc. They could be using that in so many amazing ways which is kind of the common thread that runs throughout the place. Its hard not to imagine what the restaurant could have been or could be throughout the entire experience. The immediate feeling I had when I walked in was "ooohh so cozy and warm in here, I could spend an evening drinking and eating here very easily and then you see it...... The big obnoxious plasma T.V. What is with that? If you want to be a sports bar be a sports bar, if you want to be a cozy little tavern be a cozy little tavern. It really kills it for me. I asked for the menu which was printed on a 8 1/2 by 11 printer paper, straight off of the computer. Really? I ordered a drink from a very nice man. I asked if he had a sauvignon blanc to which he replied "sure" He then came back and placed a glass of red wine in front of me. Again... Really? I didn't have the heart to say anything to him and just sipped on it while perusing the " menu". I was set to order wings when he replied...Oh we don't have any food yet. Ok then why even give me your little menu flyer thingy. And again... Really? read more

I made a yelp account just to write this. But I've been coming to this place for about 2-3 years now not only for the great food but especially for the amazing staff, only to come after being gone for almost 2 months and see brand new people working not knowing anything about anything. Our usual server Christy is not there anymore apparently and we had another girl that was nice but did not make our brunch fun at all. I found myself with an empty glass most of my 90 minutes. In her defense, she was the only server working! Even the host was a complete downgrade from the girl that had been there since I started coming there. She had us wait for about a half hour after our reservation time. The old host never had us wait, especially with a reservation or without an apology or explanation. The bartender, June, was the only familiar face since he had been there since opening. And when I wanted to talk to the owner, no one could find him! The new staff is not friendly not accommodating and clueless. They need pointers from the old staff and I likely won't be coming back unless they do as well. Not sure what management must've done to mess up one of the most fun brunch spots I've ever been to in Brooklyn but they definitely did. Completely disappointed read more

I have been reading a lot of the reviews here and I know alot of them are not positive, and I feel very bad for these people, but first impressions can be lasting impressions and not open a door for a chance for second or third impressions. In my personal experience with Rutik's I have been able to enjoy multiple positive impressions, great fun, and meet alot of new and positive friends. Any time there has been an issue, I have brought it to the attention of management and it was immediately addressed beyond my satisfaction. I have been enjoying Rustik's for well over a year and bring a different group of people with me everytime I go, who all have found it to be a repeat place to have an all around great time. No matter if you are inside or outside the air of freindship, fun, and sometimes extreme comical foolery can be enjoyed. Depending on the happenings of the evening Rustiks has also proven to be an experience of sophistication, ambience, romance, and in depth conversations with new and old friends. I highly recommend Rustiks. If you allow it could be a place where everybody knows your name. ;-) read more

First time having brunch at Rustik. I've been here many times for events and happy hours, but it looks like I've been missing out. The first thing that impressed me was that I was able to get a reservation the morning of for 3:15 brunch. Not easy to do on a Saturday. My cousin ordered the French toast and I had the shrimp and grits entree. Hands down the best French toast I ever tasted in my life--the batter was reminiscent of waiting beignets for breakfast! The shrimp and grits were already really good--barely needed to add anything to the grits as they were cheesy goodness. The service was also on point and our waitress never missed an opportunity to refill us on our bottomless drinks. Definitely coming back for brunch soon! read more

Rustik is a great venue - GREAT. The service is friendly and efficient (though like any restaurant, you may have a wait when it's crowded), the bartenders are awesome and friendly, the owner Frantz is always on hand and very diligent about ensuring your good time and the manager Rudy adds great character to the overall scheme of things (clearly I go a lot). The vibe is awesome and what's interesting is the overall crowd that Rustik attracts! Some nights it's Jazz and you'll see a more mature crowd trying out their vocals as certain highlighted groups Jam...Other nights is just plain chillin'. The weekend brunch and overall calmness is nice as well. Highly recommend!!!! read more

I dined at Rustik Tavern at the end of November 2024 and it was one of the most uncomfortable restaurant experiences I've had. The restaurant had no heat, yet patrons were not informed beforehand. Instead, we were left to dine in a cold space with only a few portable heaters, which did little to improve the situation. Despite these conditions, there was no discount or gesture of goodwill offered. Unfortunately, the food did not make up for the poor atmosphere. It lacked seasoning and fell flat in terms of flavor. Given the uncomfortable setting and underwhelming food, this was a truly disappointing experience. I wouldn't return and can't recommend it. read more

Met a friend at this spot in the hood after reading decent reviews. The music was pumping from the door, but the patrons seemed to be sparse and just a few regulars. There was hardly anyone in the place. Seemed very unprofessional and hard to tell who was an employee from a patron. Ordered the mac & cheese. What a horror show. The mac was shells with a little crusty cheese on top. Was the absolute worst m&c I have ever had! Ever. My mom and I came here for lunch. We had the BBQ wings (so good!!!) and then I has the chicken and waffles (so soft and fluffy, and a nice hint of cinnamon sweetness that I didn't even need syrup. And the chicken was good too!) My mom had the salmon burger and fries (the fries were great!). We will definitely be back. read more

The restaurant has a very homey and intimate atmosphere with outdoor space available towards the back. There is also nice artwork and very colorful furniture throughout the restaurant. We ordered oxtail wontons, their house wings, fries, and soca pasta with shrimp. The appetizers all tasted fine. The pasta could have used more salt in my opinion, but was good overall. We also ordered a couple of cocktails, including a Paloma, Espresso Martini, and Rum Punch. The Rum Punch was a little too sweet and syrupy for my liking so I had to add some water to dilute it. Our server and bartender, T-Rex, provided great service. She made us feel comfortable and checked in on us a couple times. I would definitely recommend visiting and will hopefully be back in the future!

I dream about this, and it comes in a large size. -HH on Thursday meant $1 wings (10 minimum) and the Jerk Chicken ones were large, juicy, and flavourful. The presentation was impeccable. -Music wasn't too loud, decor was perfect, and overall vibes were good from fellow patrons. It was chill and intimate without being too serious. The Bad: -The service was quite slow and the woman serving us was typing in the order one letter at a time...with her index finger. -The rice and peas were not whole grains and rice and were dry; I couldn't taste any coconut in it. The Meh: -The wings were inconsistent in size -- the Thai sweet chili and Soy Garlic were smaller and drier as compared to the Jerk Chicken, and bordered on flavourless. -The drinks were fine, couldn't really taste the alcohol. The oxtail was standard, but I thought it'd have more flavour complexity or be more tender given that it was braised in Caribbean rum. The vegetable sides were slightly undercooked and came with small pieces of corn on the cob which was hard to eat. When I've gotten a side of veggies in the past, it's been blanched cabbage with butter which I prefer. -The salmon added onto the pasta was good, but it was overcooked and dry.

Unfortunately, my experience was extremely disappointing. I came with my family around 2:00 p.m. and immediately noticed that several of the items featured in the Instagram post, like fried catfish and mac and cheese, weren't even on the menu. We ended up ordering the fried fish sandwich, split pea soup, jerk wings, tamarind wings, a salad, and fries. The split pea soup tasted sour, as if it had been sitting for days, and was visibly separated in the bowl. I sent it back because I genuinely felt something was wrong with it, yet no one asked if I wanted a replacement and the soup was still left on our bill. The wings were just as disappointing. The jerk wings were wet, soggy, completely lacking in flavor, and tasted nothing like jerk seasoning. The tamarind wings tasted more like wings covered in sweet-and-sour sauce than tamarind, although at least those were crispy. Sadly, the French fries were probably the only decent thing we had. I really wanted to enjoy this restaurant and support the business, especially after seeing the post online. But based on the food I was served today, I can't see myself returning, even to try the "soul food" offerings that initially caught my attention. The experience was just that bad.

The waitress was super professional and gave us suggestions from the menu items. She suggested the Peaches Punch (rum and positive vibes) and she did not disappoint. Peaches Punch was sweet and citrus. My fam is southern, migrated from North Carolina to Brooklyn, so I am not a stranger to southern food. My mother was a sou cook in a small water front hotel on the intercostal waterway, so I confess I am a chair side critic of collard greens. I do not like collards simmered too sweet. I also like to add vinegar. So we ordered the fried catfish, cornbread, and collard greens. The catfish arrived seasoned and crispy. I added a dash of Texas Petes hot sauce, they seriously offer a variety of hot sauce. Love it. The collard greens were inviting, aromatic, and tender. The smell of the collards reminded me of Sunday dinner after training. Yes, it tasted old school, I greatly appreciated the southern vibe and the great southern hospitality. The main entrées were affordable and the drinks were worth every penny. This is within walking distance from my home. I will definitely return for collard greens. Please make a date to sit out on the sidewalk and order those collards.

We sat in the cosy dining room and were served by the owner, a friendly and humble gentleman who insisted we come back when we stopped by in the summer. To our delight, he remembered us! I ordered the lamb ragou pappardelle and my family split an order of fries. I found my dish to be surprisingly hearty, with a rich sauce that wasn't too heavy. The al dente pasta graced with a dollop of ricotta and fresh basil created a balanced dish that wanted neither salt nor pepper, and could be enjoyed as is. It warmed me thoroughly on the coldest December evening of the year. This place is a hidden gem that could use some local love. It's right close to my barber so I definitely will be back.

When we first arrived it was pretty empty so the server gave us a lot of attention, filling our glasses every couple minutes; however once more people arrived, it became very difficult to flag down the server for more water and the check, which took us probably almost 20 minutes of actively trying to wave him down.

There are more savory options for breakfast than sweet. The Mac and cheese used a great cheese blend and was served in its cast iron skillet which kept it warm through the meal. I'm glad our waiter suggested substituting in fried shrimp; this gave more texture to the dish. The best substitution was making our "salt and pepper" fries "BBQ". Specifically for brunch. It is my favorite neighborhood gem and has been for years! Each time i come i get the same breakfast. The Jim Cade breakfast. It comes with your choice of bacon or sausage, eggs, cheese grits or potatoes and granola French toast with a few berries on the side. It's still a great breakfast. But the French toast fell off badly. It used to be this thick brioche toast that was crunchy and sweet and was so dang goood! It was my favorite French toast in the city and the main reason i continuously and consistently order the Jim Cade. The French toast this time seemed to be regular white bread which was a bit disappointing. It didn't hold the same crunch that it did prior. I hope they bring back the original bread. The grits are always a 10/10. The bacon is always good as well. The eggs were a little wet for my liking. My boyfriend also hated the sausage. It really did look and taste like it was old. It wasn't juicy at all. Just very dry. Like it was being under a heat lamp all day. He took a small bite and said nope. Smh. The service is give a 3.5 outta 5. Again, it used to be great. It just lost a little bit of its magic to me this time around. The server was very nice whenever she did check on us. Which was probably once. We had to track her down for the check. Someone else brought us our food and drinks. So we barely saw her unless she was running around behind her other tables. I still tipped pretty good. But the service can be a bit better and more attentive to ALL customers. The decor looked a little light this time. Me and my boyfriend came here for our first date and there was this painting on the wall that looked like Kobe Bryant holding a pitch fork. We laughed about that picture for 2 years promising to go back and visit. Once we did, he wasn't there. So that was a bit disappointing lol. Otherwise the vibes were cool. Good r&b music. The drink was strong as ever! Which i loved and so did my boyfriend. All in all 3.5. I'll be back again next year for my annual tradition for brunch. Hopefully it'll be a bit better this time around.
