My daughter and I decided to have brunch at Ruby Sunshine on a beautiful Sunday after church at Elevation Church Ballantyne. We were staying at the Homewood Suites located next to the restaurant, so I put us on the waitlist which you can do from their website. The wait was 40-55 minutes. Once we were seated, our wonderful sever, Jordi came to get our drink orders and tell us all about the menu. Jordi was super passionate about her job & the food at Ruby Sunshine, she was amazing. It's a pretty spacious restaurant with lots of seating indoors and a good amount outside too. We ordered the loaded tots and the beignets for our appetizers. I've never had appetizers come out so quickly. They were both so delicious, I couldn't stop eating them. The pork on top of the tots was so flavorful and so tender. The beignets were perfect, nice and hot and the perfect puff. For our entree, we chose to share the Trifecta, which was there 3 most popular Benedicts. Wow, every bite was amazing, the flavor profile perfect. I enjoyed each of them thoroughly. This was a great first time experience. We arrived at 1 on a Tuesday ~ in hopes that the lunch rush would be over ~ and waited an incredibly long time even though there was no else in line and plenty of empty tables. We were finally greeted and we asked for a window booth which led to an even longer wait as these tables hadn't yet been cleaned. When we ordered breakfast tacos, we both asked if they contained spicy ingredients and our server assured us they were not spicy. Turns out that the tacos were spicy and inexplicably very soggy ~ really runny and messy to eat. As our server hadn't come back to check on us and we needed more napkins, I got up and looked for any server to help us. When our server finally checked in with us, we told him that the tacos were indeed spicy and he said sorry, but he wasn't interested in asking the kitchen which ingredients made the tacos spicy so we could order more knowledgeably next time. With so many other options for brunch, I don't think we'll put Ruby Sunrise on our rotation. read more

I was in town for work. Been trying to get here for days. When we tried over the weekend the wait was too long. Today I'm here on a weekday (Thursday) about 50 minutes before they close. I'm very excited because I went to their New Orleans location and i fell in love. Here in Charlotte so far, service is great. I'm sitting at the bar. Having their Ruby mimosa and French toast bites for starters. The place is very clean, wasn't too busy but also because the came before closing. Food was AMAZING again. Didn't disappoint at all. The cochon Sammie was a bit saltier than I liked but I loved the applewood one. The French toast bites were delish also but I would get as a dessert but thats just me. I fully recommend. My wife ordered the standard stuff with a side pancake. Pancake was as thin as construction paper, and cold. Shouldn't have been on the menu at all, since at first site it was offensive. I ordered the Eggs Benedict Trio. Presentation was great! I looked at my wife's meal and was like mine looks amazing. Life is about choices... The flavor was off and left a weird aftertaste. The first eggs Benedict tasted sweet and bitter at the same time, so I went on to the 2nd which had shrimp and some red sauce, so I thought ok this will make up for the first. Nope, it tasted sour more than good. I tried to eat the tater tot's to get the taste out of my mouth, but eh nope, it was cold. I let the waitress know. Full disclosure, they did discount the meal. I decided to lick my wounds and leave the 3rd one, which included a nice crispy chicken for home, so I could warm it and not waist. This one was to be their best one, as per the very nice waitress. She was right! It was the most flavorful one. I wouldn't complain about it, but I warmed it up and shared it with my daughter, half of the eggshell was in the Benedict. She got the shell. But after my graduation, we came here, and to my absolute surprise, everyone cleaned their plates! I'm late to post my review but we came here on Sunday during their opening week. We were anticipating a wait but we were sat right away. The restaurant has a nice ambiance and the staff were friendly. Minutes after we were sat at our table and our server took our drink order, a large group of 17 was sat next to us and our server was taking care of this party. This is obviously no fault to the server - but that was a huge 'red flag' for us - the fact that the hosts would sit a party that large with a server they had just sat, responsible for a large party by themselves, during opening week. YIKES. Our sweet server went to greet this party and get drink orders, after she went around the group all agreed immediately they were ready to order. We knew it would be at least 30 minutes before our server came back to us and we had 2 babies so we knew that wouldn't work. My wife went to the host and asked for a new server, the manager came over to speak with us and a new server was assigned. Amber quickly came over and put our order in. She was very knowledgeable of the menu and helped us make our selection. We ordered the biscuits and gravy and the Benedict trifecta, and a side of fruit. The biscuits and gravy hit the spot! And the Benedict trifecta were delicious and I will probably order it again. The price was pretty high for being an above average brunch spot. I came to Ruby Sunshine on a Sunday afternoon. It was definitely pretty busy, which included a 30 minute wait even after joining the waitlist online 90 minutes earlier. I was able to go to the bar and get a drink while I wanted, then we were sat outside. Bad idea for the SOUTHERN heat unfortunately. The wait was long even though we put our name on the wait list prior to arriving. We were seated immediately but forgotten about for 20 minutes. When we ordered we ordered everything at once. We had to ask for silverware, never asked for a drink refill, and we never got the butter we asked for twice. The food took a long time to come out and it was edible but not good. The party next to us didn't like theirs either. We went to New Orleans in March, and this is not reminiscent of the Ruby Sunshine at all. Not even close. Probably won't be back. I've been eager to go here since my niece mentioned it to me. Today was the day. Ruby Sunshine is a ray of sunshine for everyone that walks through their door. Wonderful staff that is helpful and accommodating. It's a very family friendly/big group restaurant. We were seated right away and there was 11 of us. I ordered the Bananas Foster French Toast with Smoked Applewood Bacon and a Cappuccino while my other family members ordered the pancakes, waffles and omelets. My niece ordered Shrimp & Grits but she didn't like the pork Tasso that it was sautéed in. Not to say it wasn't good but for her personally, she didn't care for it. My French toast was everything so I'd definitely order that again. It was perfectly fluffy and delicious. Everyone enjoyed their meal so I highly recommend Ruby Sunshine. Checked out the new location in Ballantyne, and it was great!! I am not a huge sweet eater, but the white chocolate bread pudding pancakes were crispy and delicious. I loved the chicken on the Benedict and the pork Tasso cream sauce. I loved the shrimp and bacon on that benedict (but did not love the fried green tomato - tomato that I could see.) Omg this the second time I visited this restaurant in hopes to give it a second chance. So my daughter had a hair cooked into her omelette. Initially we ask to have it made over and to hold the hair. My daughter changed her mind and didn't want it at all. We ask the waiter to cancel the remake and I literally haven't been able to eat my fish and grits since she saw it. Why did the waiter say let me see if I could cancel it! Needless to say he never returned to the table, had to ask another waitress to call a manager. No I will never returned and please be careful when you get your food... I rarely do a review so negative as I get there are bad days that occur. It is great that they opened another location in Ballantyne area. The food is as good as it is at the south end location. Being that this is the first weekend that they opened, their service is excellent. This food came out fast and tasted great. The restaurant is clean and still has about the same feeling as other locations, but they might have reuse some of the furniture from the restaurant before. I like that the parking is a lot easier than South End location. Overall great experience, can't wait to come back and try other things on the menu. read more

Unfortunately, our experience was disappointing. It took nearly 30 minutes just to receive coffee and beignets, which were not fresh. We were never offered water and the entrees took over a hour from when we sat down. At one point we wanted to cancel part of our order because it was taking so long, but couldn't even catch the waitress! The restaurant appeared short-staffed, and the service reflected that. The wait staff appeared disorganized and unprofessional, wearing wrinkled and unkempt clothing, and they seemed to lack proper training.Hopefully, management can address these issues, as the place has potential with better organization and training. I saw some of the bad review before coming here but I always feel I like to give a restaurant a try before judging them. 1- what's the point of the online wait list as the in house staff doesn't even use it. We ended up waiting almost 2 hour. they apologized for the wait and said they were short staff which we get it - it happens but we were still excited to eat . 2- I ordered the avocado toast and what an extremely led down. The pouched egg was COLD! Like they must make them in the morning and then keep them in the refrigerator before re-warming them up. I have never had a cold egg in a restaurant. They remade it for me but then I also realized the avocado mix was also refrigerated cold. I was so excited for this meal but so unhappy on trying to eating such a cold meal. 3. When we first walked in for breakfast, I already liked the interior decor with the diner look but still clean-looking, possibly because it's still fairly new, but the cleanliness was attractive. We had zero wait time, despite it being a weekend. There are plenty of menu options to select from, though a bit pricey for breakfast items. I had The Peacemaker, which is a mix of any 2 Benedicts for $16.75. I went with the Bayou Shrimp (gulf shrimp sautéed with pork tasso and creole tomato sauce served over 2 poached eggs, a slice of fried green tomato and a buttermilk biscuit) and the Chicken St. Charles (fried chicken breast served over a buttermilk biscuit, topped with 2 poached eggs, finished with pork tasso cream sauce). The food arrived super quick! They looked gorgeous and were very filling. I have never seen Benedicts look so Southern! The cook on both proteins were spot on. I really enjoyed the sauce from the Bayou Shrimp; it was very creamy, tasty, and had just a little kick of spiciness to it. Unfortunately, one of the poached eggs was over cooked, and the fried green tomato was a little mushy in the center. I would have also preferred the biscuits to be more fluffy, but they were a bit soggy and crumbly. I was very impressed with my first visit. There was a long wait on Sunday morning. They do have a check-in feature on Yelp. I ordered the Bananas Foster French Toast, and it was terrific. I also tried the sweet heat chicken and French toast bites. I'm not a massive fan of the sweet heat syrup. The chicken was good, though. I ordered a side of bacon. It was very solid!
