Not sure why there are so many bad reviews, but our experience was excellent--no complaints. We went at 10 a.m. on a Saturday. The restaurant was busy, but there was no wait, and we were seated immediately. Our server, Sada, was attentive and took our order within five minutes. The food arrived within ten minutes and was really good. I say "really good" instead of "great" because I've visited the original locations in New Orleans (Ruby Slipper), and you just can't beat food in NOLA. We ordered the same dishes we had there to make a fair comparison. I had the catfish and grits with a side of one cinnamon swirl pancake (a perfect combination) and iced coffee. My wife had the avocado toast--she said it tasted the same and loved that they cut the toast into four pieces here. My food tasted almost identical. I think the gravy here didn't have tasso and was a bit less seasoned (which isn't a bad thing, since dishes in New Orleans can sometimes be overseasoned). The pancake made me smile, and the iced coffee was good too. I'm happy to know I can get this meal anytime I'm in Charlotte. I loved the food at this restaurant BUT I quit going because the staff were lackadaisical. They would look up at you but not greet you, and the booths were all broken down as well. One time I stood there and waited for about 5 minutes and noticed the staff looking at me with a frown and not one took a second to say "Welcome, In, we will be right with you". It was more like I was an inconvenience for coming in. So, I quietly turned around and left. When my friends and coworkers ask about this place, I tell them not to bother. Had such a good experience at Ruby Sunshine that we literally came back a second time today just to grab another iced coffee From the second we had walked in...even earlier they remembered us, Laura the hostess was warm, welcoming, and peak service energy. Then Nicci our waitress took great care of us...super sweet, attentive, and on top of everything (and her beautiful plug earrings were such a vibe ). Drinks stayed full and she checked on us just the right amount. We had the beignets earlier (because desserts spelled backwards is stressed and we're not doing that in the morning ) warm, fluffy, perfectly sweet. The tater tots were crispy golden perfection. And that iced coffee topped with whipped cream? So good we had to run it back the same day. Smooth, refreshing, extra indulgent with that whip on top.....Also the place was spotless. We went on a Sunday morning around 10:30am and there was no wait but I've heard this place gets busy after 11am. Yelp does have a way for you to sign up for the waitlist which is a nice option. The inside was cute and had New Orleans style decor. We sat in a booth and our server was Andrea and she was super attentive and nice. We ordered the French toast bites and they were melt in your mouth delicious! At our table we order the peacemaker where you can pick two different types of benedicts and so we picked the egg cochon and the chicken st Charles. Both were really good. We also got the bayou shrimp which was delicious with the fried green tomato, the sauce on this one was really good. and lastly I got the florentine omelet and this was delicious, the goat cheese was very yummy. The plates are on the smaller side, but the experience had some real highlights. There was a small hiccup with my eggs, they forgot to make them over easy, but the staff quickly fixed it without any issue, which I appreciated. The standout for me was the blueberry lavender mimosa, easily the best mimosa I've had. It was a generous pour, too, which made it even better. As for the food, the fried green tomatoes were a bit disappointing, coming out rubbery instead of crisp. So the other day I took my mother out to brunch at Ruby Sunshine! First time ever going. The inside was nice with lots of booths lining the wall and sturdy table and chairs with padding all throughout! Outside there was a large patio for nice weather dinning. To her credit our server was very polite and offered to change it out. Mom got the Peach Bellini instead and was very happy with it! By the end of the meal and the drink mom was feeling very happy! We put an order of the Beignets in right away with our drink orders. You get 6 hot and fluffy beignets covered in powdered sugar! For 2-3 people this is a fine app. If you have more people in your party better get a second order! I ordered the sweet heat chicken and french toast bites! This was kind of their play on the chicken n waffle and I gotta say I am here for it all day! I received two large pieces of chicken in a crunchy yet spicy batter! The plate was loaded with french toast bites! I have to say at least 3 pieces of french toast that was cut up into bites. It also came with fresh cut strawberries! The strawberries really helped cool down the spices in the chicken. Also, they brought out the syrup already warmed up. I love that! A few of the bites were a little crunchy so maybe they were a tad over fried but really not anything to be sad about and I ate every one of them! Mom ordered the breakfast taco's with the applewood bacon added in. As you can see from the photo's each of her grilled tortillas' were overflowing with goodness. She only finished two of them and the third became a snack later on. I felt the side of breakfast potatoes was a little over done but mom loves the crunchy bites so she was in heaven. Since I do these reviews I like to try as much as I can without having to be rolled out of the restaurant. So I had to try their buttermilk biscuit and pancakes. OMG were they good! They have a "sweet" butter they serve with it and it was so good. I wish I had room to order a whole stack of those pancakes! The biscuit was thick but not dense! It was so light and fluffy! We came here with mediocre expectations. Our goal was a decent brunch and a mimosa. What we got would be comparable if Temu had breakfast options. It took forever to place our order. I ordered the shrimp and grits, absolutely awful. The green peppers were still raw and crunchy. Grits were lumpy and gritty. I only ate the shrimp and left the rest. I get nervous about having food returned. The BF said his chicken sandwich was good, just a basic sandwich. The service, trash. Our server appeared to be the bartender and our server at the same time. With that being said, it was not very busy in there at all and there were 2 other servers. I believe there were a total of 6 tables among the 2 servers and the bartender. She forgot to bring our drinks, brought us our tab and I gently stated that we didnt receive our drinks. We weren't asked if we needed anything else before the tab was given to us. At that point, we had already finished eating but never received our drinks. She quickly threw the drinks together and quickly gave them to us. Didn't ask if we needed boxes or coffee, just more of a "here ya go, bye". After getting our drinks, we waited another 15 mins or so before I asked to pay our tab, the server never returned for us to close out. I absolutely love Ruby Sunshine's fried chicken so I was so excited to bring my husband to try the best fried chicken ever! Imagine my disappointment when it came out looking burnt. It took quite a bit of time to get our server's attention (the bartender) and she brought another piece that looked the same. She said that the kitchen said this is how it looks because of the oil. I then told her I actually came for the fried chicken and it normally does not look or taste burnt. The third time it came out looking golden brown not burnt. Made reservations for a party of 9 about 3 hours early before our intended time on a Sunday afternoon for brunch. I called ahead to ensure that we will be able to be seated. We did still have about a 40 min wait once arriving. We were told that was to give their kitchen some time to accommodate us. The food overall was pretty tasty, had pretty good flavor and came out nice and hot. The mimosa flight was more flavorful than the traditional mimosa, which was flat. Came here for Veterans Day brunch to check out a new place with a friend. The menu looked really good and there was a good selection to choose from. I love that they have a peacemaker Benedict option where you can choose between two options! I went with that while my friend went for the chicken biscuit. The chicken was very juicy! I was a little bit disappointed that my eggs benedict was pretty much a medium/hard boiled egg. I really enjoyed this location. I celebrated my birthday brunch here with 15 guest and everyone truly enjoyed it even my nephews. There truly was something for everyone on the menu. We went there for a brunch on Sunday morning. Our arrival was lesson stellar. Didn't really feel warm and welcoming. We set our table for at least 10 minutes before someone came to wait on us as it appeared there was some confusion about whose table it was to take care of. We started our day off with coffee and beignets and the loaded tots. The beignets were light and fluffy and warm. They were delicious. The loaded tops was a large portion. I ended up bringing half of it home with me. It was savory. The tots were crispy. The pork on top with flavorful was not dry at all the gravy was a little salty, but not too salty. But overall, they were delicious. I also got a side order of the Applewood smoked bacon. That was delicious. It was cooked perfectly not too crispy done correctly. My husband ordered the Peacemaker which was a combination of two of the eggs Benedict one was the Chicken Saint Charles and the second was Eggs Cochon. He said his favorite was the Chicken Saint Charles. It was crispy. It was full of flavor. The biscuit that the chicken was on was light and fluffy, and the egg on the top was perfect. The Eggs Cochon had pork on the top. Again with a perfectly cooked egg. The meat was savory. It was not dry at all, and the portions were huge. The coffee which I must admit I think I had 3 cups of while we were there was great if you like strong coffee. I would actually give this place a 3 1/2 star rating. We have come back here twice in 1 week! This is now my favorite lunch/brunch spot. I'm a huge fan of bloody Maria's. And they have plenty of tequila options here!! The spiked iced coffee drinks are excellent, and very strong. Get the beignets. Powdered sugar goodness. I'm not exaggerating this enough. They are perfect, not too filling either. For entrees I ordered the eggs cochon. perfectly poached eggs with hollandaise sauce rested on a buttery biscuit. The pulled pork was break apart with your fork tender. There's a reason this restaurant has a line out the door. The food is great! The hostess was so nice despite patrons being rude to her (be kind to your wait staff or go home) and the wait wasn't too bad. Highly recommend walking down to Pikes and going plant shopping while you wait. Our server was also very nice! We got the loaded tots to start which are so good we ate half before I got a picture. I got biscuits and gravy with fries, eggs, and bacon. My only complaint is the gravy tastes like it has a chicken base and I prefer it to be fully sausage based. Otherwise fantastic. My peach Bellini wasn't very peachy. Do expect to be here for over an hour due to the high influx of patrons but that's outside of the restaurants control. I'd definitely come back! read more

It was French toast bites, fresh strawberries and 2 huge pieces of fried chicken with a spicy sauce on top. It was unlike anything I've had before and was soooooo tasty. My family and I came here on Sunday and I was able to add myself to a waitlist when we were on the way. We arrived around 11:30 and checked in and were seated right away. We ordered our food and started with the beignets, which were warm and delicious! I ordered the migas which was also good. My husband got the breakfast sandwich, which i really enjoyed. The biscuit was so warm and fluffy and the potatoes that came on the side were nice and crispy. The only thing was that our server was also working behind the bar, so she only took our orders and brought out our drinks (after like 15 mins of waiting) and then we didn't see her again until we had to grab her attention for the check. Our drinks were never refilled, she never checked in on our table or anything. The coke we ordered tasted absolutely disgusting for some reason and we wanted to let her know but were never able to get her attention. We just asked to take it off our bill instead. Went in on Saturday morning at 10am. It was surprisingly slow. We were greeted and seated right away. We sat for a little longer than typical awaiting a server. Then, someone came and said that the Internet had gone out and they would be with us as soon as it was back. They couldn't ring in or cash out orders. There was a missed opportunity to provide great customer service by offering us water and/or coffee while we waited, but no offer came. Finally, service was restored and server came for our drink orders. She asked if we'd ever been before and we told her no. She was perplexed, or disinterested, when I asked if the coffee was strong and said she wasn't sure. She didn't suggest any specialty drinks. She took our food orders, again, no suggestions, only made sure to tell me that each individual item for the BYO omelet costs. It's clearly printed on the menu. Tell me about your dishes or suggest your faves. Don't infer that I can't read or am daft. One of my guests and I ordered to go meals. She insisted on taking those orders after she took the main orders, but they came out, in the same bag though they were on separate tickets, when our eat in orders came out. I'd ordered a side of potatoes, which seemed to confuse the server when I first asked. As soon as she walked away and put our orders in, another server brought my side of potatoes. Umm, what? I sent them back because I wanted them with my meal. Food finally comes out almost 20 mines later and it's cold. Pancakes are cold, pretty sure it was the same potatoes, and one of my guests had ordered the French toast bites and they were cold. We had to send it back-not something I like to do, but I want hot food if it's supposed to be hot. The server who took our food back said she would tell them to rush it but she couldn't guarantee it. Blessedly, they rushed it. We were almost done with our food before we saw our server again. No refill offers or anything. I asked for a coffee top off with the server who'd helped with the cold food. When our server did come, she dropped off tickets. Told us she wasn't sure where to put the starters so she just put them on one and if we needed it changed, she would. She walked away and we sat and talked. A 1/2 hour later we guessed that our tickets were to be paid at the hostess stand. As we walked to the stand our server rushed over and says, "I'll take your payments-they don't have anything up there to take it." We said that we just assumed that we were supposed to because no one came for our payment. Her response was that she didn't see anyone's cards out so she didn't come over. If I ever choose to go to this location again, I'll surely request that she not be my server. I was so surprised by this service, or lack thereof. The food: fried green tomatoes were so thin and overcooked, could taste the potential Beignets-thin, we had to knock powdered sugar from one onto others Pancakes-sweet and so fluffy they were more cake like-perfect for someone who likes them that way-I wouldn't order again Bacon-Happy it was good Guests liked their food (shrimp omelette and French toast bites) but didn't get to eat grits because she'd requested butter and it didn't come and again, we didn't see the server forever. Husband liked his BYO Omelet. Definitely pricey for the amounts of food. I wasn't impressed when I visited a New Orleans location and I'm doubling down in that with this experience. This is a chain and we had apparently visited one of these locations in another state, though I did not recall that when my husband reminded me. Service was fun and friendly, and I really enjoyed my white chocolate pancakes and the bacon on the side was very close to how I like it (chewy only, please!). Food and service. Eggs Benedict was overcooked. Server did not come back to check on food after it was delivered. Side items and condiments missing even though it was requested as we ordered our food. Wait time was greater than 45 mins even though we had put ourselves on a waitlist that quoted us 20 minutes. read more

Went on a Friday morning, restaurant not crowded so the hostess directed us to the left side to pick a table, literally all unoccupied low top tables were still dirty with dishes. We didn't want to the high top seating so we go over to the right side and picked a table. No dishes on it but looked like it hadn't been wiped off so had to ask them to do that. Same person who sat is was our waiter. I ordered mimosa flight and my friend and I ordered the green tomatoes for an app and our separate entrees. All food came out at the same time instead of the app being first. Had to ask for syrup after a few min of seeing they weren't going to bring it. My mimosas didn't come out til almost at the end of the meal, that's after I had to remind them abt it. At least the food was delish and fresh but wasn't overly impressed with the service. read more

We put our name on a wait list. 10 minutes past our time we were told about another 20 mins. At that 20 minute point they said 10 more minutes. My husband and I had to leave which left my daughter with 4 children. They were taken in at that 10 minute point but service was slow and food was fair. Won't be visiting again! A little bit of New Orleans in Charlotte. We wanted to have a good brunch on our day off for Juneteenth and decided to check out the converted Cantina 1511 into Ruby Sunshine. Jo Jo was our server and she was great. Super sweet and attentive. I started with a Mimosa flight, but they all tasted similar and I couldn't distinguish which was which. I ordered the Gulf shrimp omelette without onions and peppers because I'm basic like that. It came with a biscuit and grits that I gave to my husband. I'm a Southerner who doesn't eat grits. My omelette was really good. It was filled with sizable and flavorful shrimp; they met my shrimp to egg ratio. The biscuit was a tad dry but the maple flavored butter made it amazing. Hubby said the grits lacked flavor. Overall, a decent experience. Do I have to go back? Not necessarily because there are so many fabulous brunch options in the area. read more

Ruby Sunshine is a really cute brunch spot in the Pineville Area off of Johnston Road. The service was very nice. Our Server, JoJo was attentive amd friendly. The food was delicious. I highly recommend the French Toast bites! The cream cheese icing is the best I've ever had.
