I had a great experience at Sumaq Coffee. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I love the inside of this coffee shop. There are so many places to sit and hang out either by yourself or with friends.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] During my visit, I had to try the Matcha latte. I got it with whole milk and it was delicious. I wanted to try a food item but could never decide so I will have to leave that for my next visit. A friend of mine did try a ham and cheese croquette thing and really enjoyed it. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Just be aware that there a few areas in the second setting area that did seem drafty to me[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] and there is limited parking beside the coffee shop but more parking towards the back and on the side. One of my favorite coffee shops in Charlotte! [[HIGHLIGHT]]This place is great, sophiscitated clean and great for a hangout or simply work remotely while enjoying some great coffee.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Staff is friendly and fully bilingual. My favorite item on the menu: The Dulce de Leche Latte. It's the best I have tried so far. The food menu also offers a lot of options. My wife and I came here for her birthday gathering with her coworkers. We got the Dulce de Leche Latte, Sumaq Latte and the fried empanadas (beef and chicken). Everything was as usual: Fantastic and delicous! The service was also great. Elmer, the manager, helped.us with reserving the space. He is always friendly, helpful and professional. Sumaq is centrally located with free parking. If you are not a local, no worries, the GPS will take you straight to it. Overall, 100% recommended!

Was in town for business and needed a caffeine pick-me-up. Sumaq came highly recommended. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The atmosphere: If I were local, this would be my go-to spot to work. The seating is spacious and comfortable, with plenty of work-friendly areas. Everything is beautifully decorated and very clean.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The coffee and bites: I ordered a Pumpkin Spice Latte and two Peruvian baked empanadas, one Spinach and Cheese and one Chicken. Both were flavorful and came with a delicious dipping sauce. The latte was sweet but not overly so, with a light pumpkin flavor that did not overpower the coffee. The service: Friendly and efficient, no complaints.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]This place is definitely a vibe - love the atmosphere.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It is a perfect place to add to your wfh spots, along with a pastry and drink. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Plenty of seating indoors and outdoors.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I ordered an iced strawberry matcha and impressed with how great it was. I didn't have any expectations as this was my first time here but I can definitely say is high on my list of matchas I've tried in CLT. The matcha is quality! I personally wished there was more of the strawberry. I would definitely be back to try a latte.

Hidden gem coffee shop on south blvd! A great spot that is slightly out of the way from bustling uptown. This coffee shop is a great place to do some work, grab a cup and catch up with friends or a casual weekend date. They have a wide range of drink options, plus some really delicious food. The place was very clean, quaint and staff was super friendly. If you're in the area, go and check it out!

[[HIGHLIGHT]]What an adorable coffee shop![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I wanted to spend a Saturday morning at a nice coffee spot to read a book and I didn't want to go to chain Starbucks. I googled shops and this was at the top of the list with great reviews and I can see why. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's beautifully decorated and staff was great and drinks even better.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I had a couple of their new fall drinks, an apple butter one and a fall spice one. Both were absolutely yummy.

Sumaq latte, strawberry matcha

We came across this coffee shop when we were looking for a pick me up and we were in the area. The parking spots are very limited outside the coffee shop and the coffee shop is directly off of a very busy street. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The inside has ample seating and many tables with lots of natural light and a very nice ambience.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I decided to get a strawberry Matcha as a refreshing afternoon treat. This latte was both very bitter grassy and very over sweetened. The strawberry in this latte was more of a jam, and the proportion added was way too much. My SO got the sumac latte, which was their signature latte that was listed as being brown sugar cinnamon. We both really liked the taste of it, but it was nothing special that made us need to come back. The pricing is what you would expect for a Charlotte coffee shop in a popular area. Would I come back? Maybe if I was in the area and didn't want Matcha but I wouldn't go out of my way to come here.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Very beautiful atmosphere and a great place to get work done.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The majority of patrons were on laptops working when I visited.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Plentiful seating both inside and outside, and a lot of wall outlets in case you need to charge your tech items.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The drinks are decent taste-wise, and average price for this area. My latte cost about $6 and my matcha cost about the same. I've tried two of their pastries (cinnamon roll and a cake item) wasn't a big fan of either. They were both a little dry. There's small parking lots surrounding the building so parking isn't a hassle. I would come back for the drinks and atmosphere.

Beef Empanadas
Michelle F.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]This coffee house is like walking into a tropical coffee house with a lot of room and free WiFi for people doing things on their laptops.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The desserts looked amazing but I was told to try an empanada so I asked them to give me the best one. I opened the box and it was piping hot. I have to be honest, it seemed like the pastry itself was wonderful and fresh but the cheese and beef filling tasted off putting, like the dairy was curdling or maybe a flavor I'm not familiar with tasted sour. We only had a small bite or two and threw out the rest.

Strawberry Matcha

I quite liked my experience here! I went late afternoon during the week so the area and the place was kind of quiet so I was able to get my drink very quickly. I added strawberry flavor to a hot Matcha latte and loved it! It tasted sweet, but it wasn't overbearing and the matcha was just a perfect drinking temperature. The seating area was really nice as well and I like how they had cushions on the wooden benches to make them more cozy. I would've stayed there longer if I could and this place has a ton of outlets so it's really great if you wanna get some work done while at a coffee shop.

Breakfast flatbread and Dulce de Leche Latte

The food was delicious, coffee prepared with quality. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The atmosphere was perfect for working remotely.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Loved it!

They had offered samples of their lemon tart at the event, which stayed on my mind--so I came back and ordered the Lorraine-style quiche. It was rich, flavorful, and perfectly balanced by a fresh side salad. I paired it with a café au lait, which was equally well done. The ambiance is effortlessly chic--very much reminiscent of a European café--and it was lively during lunch. It's the kind of place where you can sit, linger, and people-watch... and SouthPark definitely showed up in style. At one point, several guests seated near us were speaking French, which added to the authenticity and overall experience. Service was warm and efficient, even with the crowd. The bakery itself is on the smaller side--you order inside and then head outside to sit and eat. I went on a Sunday, so it was very busy with a long line, but it moved quickly. When seating fills up, the neighboring restaurant allows use of their patio, which is a thoughtful touch. My friend enjoyed her quiche as well, and we both agreed it's a spot worth returning to--whether for a casual lunch, coffee, or a pastry break. I also order a few macarons to go and my family enjoyed them.

Review for Renaissance Patisserie…read more After relocating to Charlotte from San Francisco, one of the first things I searched for was a proper kouign-amann (pronounced queen-ah-mahn). It's a staple where I'm from, and when I discovered that Renaissance Patisserie carried it, I made the drive immediately. I'm happy to say--this place is the real deal. The kouign-amann here reminded me of the ones back in San Francisco. It wasn't quite as buttery or rich as some of the West Coast versions, but it was absolutely enjoyable--and most importantly, I finished every bite. That alone says a lot. Location & setting: Renaissance is tucked into the upscale specialty shops of SouthPark, in a lovely, polished shopping center surrounded by quality retailers like Williams Sonoma and several restaurants. Parking is plentiful and convenient, and once you step out of your car, you're welcomed into a charming outdoor courtyard that feels relaxed and refined. You'll immediately notice the bright yellow awning--it's cheerful and inviting--and inside, the bakery is just as charming. The black-and-white tile floors, small bistro tables, and beautifully arranged pastry case create a classic European feel. It's not a huge space--maybe six or seven tables--but it feels cozy, elegant, and thoughtfully designed. What makes it special: * A stunning pastry case filled with beautifully crafted desserts and laminated pastries * Skilled bakers and decorators--you can tell there's real craftsmanship behind the products * Friendly, efficient service * Apple Pay accepted (always appreciated) * Self-service water and condiments station * Clean, comfortable environment * A lovely outdoor patio that's perfect when the weather cooperates I do wish they occasionally experimented with more creative variations of the kouign-amann--perhaps seasonal fruit or specialty flavors--but even in its classic form, it's consistently a hit. I've brought these pastries to friends and gatherings, and they're always well received. What I appreciate most is that Renaissance delivers on quality and consistency. It may be a newer trend here in Charlotte, but these pastries have been a long-standing favorite in cities like San Francisco, and it's wonderful to see that level of craftsmanship available locally. Bottom line: Beautiful pastries, fair prices, great service, and a polished, welcoming atmosphere. This has become my go-to bakery in Charlotte, and if you appreciate well-made French pastries, you will not be disappointed.

Good amount of seating inside (mostly 2-seaters; one larger table reserved for bigger groups). Helpful and friendly staff who were amazing with my little one. We also tried the madeleines, which - as the café's name suggests - were on point. And the garlic bagel is a garlic + cream cheese lover's dream. The iced dalgona latte was such a treat. Sweet with a creamy foam and topped with crunchy cookies - very well balanced and delightful to drink. The prices reflect the care and high quality of the products. There's almost nowhere to park nearby, so if you're stopping in, be prepared for a quick visit and keep an eye out for the meter maid. Inside, the setup is simple and self-serve with pastries, coffee, and blended drinks. I went in specifically hoping to find cronuts or cruffins, but they don't carry anything like that. Most of the selection leaned toward classic pastries and cream-filled donuts. Everything looked fresh and tasted fine, but the variety felt fairly basic. In my opinion, it doesn't quite reach the same level as Paris Baguette when it comes to selection. Insider tip: Skip the weekends. It gets extremely crowded and parking is already challenging. Weekdays are a much better time to stop by. Overall, it's a decent place to grab a quick coffee and pastry if you're nearby, but probably not a destination bakery.

The inside was immaculate and beckoning, with a two-sided display of the offerings and a shining espresso machine behind the register. The workers bore welcoming smiles and a a polite, inviting nature. All of that is the reason I give this patisserie three stars instead of two. While some foods are still a mystery to me - barbecue I can just take or leave, mostly leave - I know coffee and I know baked goods. The croissant I sampled was dry, implying unkindly that the flaky pastry dough was either formerly frozen or not fresh, and while croissants aren't exactly the moistest pastry to be found, the idea behind making them is kneading and rolling in a lot of butter, which I truly could not taste. What a disappointment. And somehow, somehow, my latte, albeit freshly prepared before me, was lukewarm when I took my first sip on the way to the car. How is that even possible? At the last minute, I asked for caramel to be added to my drink, but that was imperceptible too. I'd forgotten to ask for it to be half sweet, so I guess that was a blessing in disguise. When you stop by a bakery late in the day you sort of pays your money and takes your chances, but I visited just before noon. No crowds either. Disappointing all around, though again, the ambiance invites lingering. Cute bistro, lovely people, but - and I cannot believe I'm saying this - I'd have done better at the nearby Starbucks if all I wanted to do was get a latte and pastry. As the French would say, domage.
