Supreme chicken salad

Same take on some of the popular dishes. Counter service with a few small tables inside. Serve breakfast all day and salads, soup and sandwiches. Salad was delicious!!!! Burgers also looked good.

Authentic French Patisserie. Superb coffee. Small comfortable dining area awash with natural light…read more Desserts delicious and artistically beautiful but limited. I had the lemon tart ($10) and a Coffee Americana ($4). Nice place for a dessert splurge. Very friendly service.

Chez Marie is a bright, charming little patisserie at one corner of Sharon Corners shopping center…read more The blue and white ambiance lends a decidedly French air to the place, with its half-dozen or so tables inside and another four or five outside. The inside was immaculate and beckoning, with a two-sided display of the offerings and a shining espresso machine behind the register. The workers bore welcoming smiles and a a polite, inviting nature. All of that is the reason I give this patisserie three stars instead of two. While some foods are still a mystery to me - barbecue I can just take or leave, mostly leave - I know coffee and I know baked goods. The croissant I sampled was dry, implying unkindly that the flaky pastry dough was either formerly frozen or not fresh, and while croissants aren't exactly the moistest pastry to be found, the idea behind making them is kneading and rolling in a lot of butter, which I truly could not taste. What a disappointment. And somehow, somehow, my latte, albeit freshly prepared before me, was lukewarm when I took my first sip on the way to the car. How is that even possible? At the last minute, I asked for caramel to be added to my drink, but that was imperceptible too. I'd forgotten to ask for it to be half sweet, so I guess that was a blessing in disguise. When you stop by a bakery late in the day you sort of pays your money and takes your chances, but I visited just before noon. No crowds either. Disappointing all around, though again, the ambiance invites lingering. Cute bistro, lovely people, but - and I cannot believe I'm saying this - I'd have done better at the nearby Starbucks if all I wanted to do was get a latte and pastry. As the French would say, domage.

Not sure why there are so many bad reviews, but our experience was excellent--no complaints…read more We went at 10 a.m. on a Saturday. The restaurant was busy, but there was no wait, and we were seated immediately. Our server, Sada, was attentive and took our order within five minutes. The food arrived within ten minutes and was really good. I say "really good" instead of "great" because I've visited the original locations in New Orleans (Ruby Slipper), and you just can't beat food in NOLA. We ordered the same dishes we had there to make a fair comparison. I had the catfish and grits with a side of one cinnamon swirl pancake (a perfect combination) and iced coffee. My wife had the avocado toast--she said it tasted the same and loved that they cut the toast into four pieces here. My food tasted almost identical. I think the gravy here didn't have tasso and was a bit less seasoned (which isn't a bad thing, since dishes in New Orleans can sometimes be overseasoned). The pancake made me smile, and the iced coffee was good too. I'm happy to know I can get this meal anytime I'm in Charlotte. Ruby Sunshine is definitely at the top of my list for breakfast/brunch.

The standout for me was the blueberry lavender mimosa, easily the best mimosa I've had. It was a generous pour, too, which made it even better. As for the food, the fried green tomatoes were a bit disappointing, coming out rubbery instead of crisp. On the other hand, the biscuit was absolutely amazing, perfectly done and definitely worth ordering. Overall, a mix of hits and misses, but a few items really shined.
