I have Celiac disease. Our church group chose this restaurant as a stop on an upcoming trip. I asked if they could accommodate a gluten free diet. They said no. I asked if I could bring something in to eat. They said no. I know they are not obligated to serve me, but most places will at least try if they can. Our server was a super sweet woman wearing purple kitty ears. Food was good and prices were reasonable. It's a solid diner experience. Basic breakfast (2 eggs, bacon or sausage, grits or hash browns, toast or biscuit) for around $10-hard to find a meal at that price in Charlotte these days. Food came out pretty quickly, less than ten minutes. My meal was good but I did need to add some salt to my scrambled eggs. I was actually impressed at how clean the bathrooms are. I have never been treated with such blatant disrespect as I was by the owner of this establishment. From the moment I walked in, their attitude was rude, dismissive, and shockingly unprofessional. It's one thing to have a bad day -- it's another to take it out on paying customers with arrogance and hostility. The owner seemed more interested in asserting their ego than ensuring anyone had a decent dining experience. I watched them speak condescendingly not just to me, but to other guests. It was uncomfortable, embarrassing, and completely unacceptable. No food is good enough to justify being treated like an inconvenience. If you like a typical diner style breakfast, this is it. We ordered for pick up and I will say, it would've probably been much better had we eaten there, but that's to be expected. Classic eggs and bacon and hash browns meal. The hash browns were tasty and greasy, just the way I like them. It's been 9 years since I came here, in 2012 (thanks Yelp!) in the middle of the night or let's say in the early morning I ate here with my brother. Now 9 years has passed, I came here, but this time with my parents. Long patrons of the restaurant across the street, they wanted to try something different so I came along with them. I had the meat lover's omelet. My parents got the pork chop and also the ribeye... for breakfast. Yes, kind of crazy but you know what? The porkchop and ribeye had pretty good flavor and I can see why my parents decided to eat at this spot. The restaurant was relatively good on COVID-19 restrictions, you know socially distanced the tables and all of that. I saw that it was pretty much one table in between. The omelet was good and gave me good memories of this place. Cold night, warm meal! Needed a place to relax after a productive day of errands and DIY. Noticed this restaurant was in the neighborhood and decided to give it a try. Spending 3 days in Charlotte. Saw Tryon House when we went to another restaurant and decided to give it a try the next day. We've been back everyday. Food was outstanding oldfashioned Southern home style cooking. What could be better than a place that offers Banana Pudding as a side dish! Banana pudding was so good I had it twice! The Service was a great example of Southern Hospitality. Host and servers treated regulars like family and we were welcomed and treated like we were relatives who came for a nice visit. Tryon House is a classic diner in the Charlotte area. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. And are located close to the light rail in South End. Tryon House is my Dad's go to for breakfast. We've been coming for years. They have some great breakfast specials. They do the American classic breakfast right. My favorite part of the breakfast is the triangle toast piece covered in melted butter. I normally don't visit any other time besides breakfast but the great thing is you can order off the breakfast and lunch menu. So I am able to get a side of fried squash!!! Service is very consistent and the servers are friendly. The parking lot can be hectic. They have a a lot of regulars so you know they have a good product. I have eaten here 3 times but kept forgetting to do a review. Probably because I was in a food coma because of the portion size. Every time I go the staff is very friendly and outgoing. They are attentive without hovering. First time: Breakfast!! Fluffy hot biscuits, crispy home fries, not too crispy bacon (I'm a chewy girl), and perfect over easy eggs. Coffee was great as well. Second time: Philly Cheesesteak, I got it without the peppers because as much as I love them, they fight me the rest of the day. Third time: Grilled cheese with bacon. I don't like American cheese (sorry) and they threw on some provolone for me. Next time I'm gonna ask for every kind of cheese they have. This Reuben is a step above the rest because they griddle the corned beef sliced to give a nice texture and enhance the flavor points of the meat. I prefer a savory sauerkraut to the sweetened variety and there's no sugar in this kraut, which I appreciated. The sugar ruins the zippy taste!
