Back again. We are very pleased at how well this diner has improved over the past couple of years. Although not regulars here, we do drop in when we are hungry and just can't decide where to go, especially if we do not want the "dining" experience. Today we wanted a good, Greek Gyro ($16 each). Very excellent, only to be bested by The Greek Grill in the Red Rock shopping center in Indian Land. Service was great, lots of refills on drinks and Maria took good care of us, without any fuss. Time for an updated review after almost a year. My buddy Randy is recovering from foot surgery and has not been out of the house for weeks and wanted to get some lunch. He kept saying 'diner' so i suggested this place. We went for lunch but he ended up eating breakfast. I had the patty melt on rye and the house salad with vinaigrette dressing. We had outstanding service from Kristina. The patty melt was good but I think they are better on sourdough.. I was little disappointed that none of the salad options included iceberg lettuce. 4/26/25 Enjoyed a great breakfast with a buddy before our round of golf. Not my first visit here, I've been several times and each visit has been great. This morning I went with an omelette. Ham & cheese as my typical go-to. Omelette was pretty big (I didn't finish it) and stuffed full with my toppings. Service was great and the place is always clean. Great menu with lots of variety, with fast and friendly service. I didn't love my stroganoff and had high hopes for it, which is the only reason I docked it a star but my wife and kids loved their meals and my tastes of their food confirmed they were in fact great. Terrible. My wife ordered the Ruben. It was grisley and not edible. Swapped it for a salad. I ordered a fish sandwich but got a fish entree. They took it back and made a sandwich out of it. I will say the fish was good. They adjusted our bill accordingly. I'd say we won't be back. Too many other good choices.​ read more

Absolutely horrible place to go. Stopped in on a Monday night at 7pm. First we had to wait for the host to come to the podium, then when he finally recognized we were there he came over and told us he had to ask the server if he could seat us. When he came back he told us they weren't seating anymore customers tonight. Refusing customers an hour before closing is unacceptable especially when there were tables open and servers available. read more

Our waitress was wonderful--very attentive and kind. Unfortunately, the food fell short. The Brussels sprouts were undercooked, unseasoned, and drizzled with vegetable oil. You had me at breakfast burrito! We've been meaning to try this spot and we're glad we did! They weren't crowded at all early on a Sunday morning so we were seated immediately. The coffee was served hot and the breakfast burrito was tasty. I liked how fries were an option instead of the breakfast potatoes. My husband enjoyed his traditional breakfast plate. It definitely feels like a diner but the space is huge! They need to make some updates because the leather in the booth was all cracked and was really rough to sit on. Just had the worst breakfast in my 73 years of life. Ordered biscuits and gravy. Biscuits were as hard as bricks and very little gravy, and what little there was, cold with a film over it. I came in here recently with some friends before a round of mini golf nearby. I was charmed by the place at first. I enjoy a good tacky diner and was impressed by the desert display when you walk in. The place is quite large and it had a decent crowd so I had high hopes. The experience left me somewhat baffled mostly because I encountered something that I haven't really seen before, and that multiple items that were prepared and served not how they described on their menu. To start at the table I ordered us some disco fries. On the menu they are described as cheese fries with bacon and chives and served with buttermilk ranch. When they were brought to the table there were no chives and instead of ranch we were served with a side of brown gravy. We all were kinda confused and the server offered no explanation. We were hungry so we just shrugged and ate them anyways. For my meal I ordered the chicken parm sandwich. It is described as being a fried chicken cutlet with marinara, and basil pesto along with cheese. When it was brought to me there was no pesto at all, and maybe a slight smear of marina sauce, so little that unless you lifted up the bun you would think there was none at all. We were eager to eat and be on our way so we could go play mini golf so I didn't feel like complaining or sending my food back, but it was a strange experience and makes me wonder if they had new cooks back there who aren't familiar with their menu. On top of that the fries were over cooked so the cheese wasn't gooey or melty it was just caked into the fries, and the sandwich was dry, essentially just a fried chicken sandwich I wouldn't call it a chicken parm at all. BEWARE: Ballantyne, Charlotte A while back I went to Big View Diner for dinner with my guy. This was not my first HOWEVER it was my last. This underage looking teenager was our waitress. The entire time she was focused only on my guy smiling in his face, taking his order, and making sure he was good. She was working overtime for a tip. But I was the one taking care of the bill. joke was on her! I didn't say anything to her, but I did bring it up to my guy. He said she is young and I was reading too much into it. Well, the waitress returns and asked my guy if he wanted coffee. He said yes and walk away, never asked if I cared for some. WOW!!!!! Now I am pissed, she has no manners or respect. She returns with coffee in hand and proceeds to lean over my guy to place the coffee on his far left. I caught her mid-lean and grabbed the coffee out her hand spilling it, just a little. She ran off upset. Baby girl may have told her mommy because an older waitress maybe Manager came over to the table to ask if we are good. I said yes and we are ready for the check. I did not make a formal complaint like I wanted to but was asked not to make a big deal because we both are not returning. This happened almost 2 years ago but I happened to do a search and this diner came up. Why not do a review and let everyone know what type of "Workers" are at that establishment... Ladies beware! We tried this restaurant twice while staying at an extended stay near the restaurant after we had a house fire. Order both times was wrong! Wrong food, short of items order! We came in at 7:10pm on a Sunday evening. We were greeted at the door by an unfriendly person who looked at his watch, and informed us that the kitchen closes at 7:30 (even though the posted close time was 8pm). The server approached us, looked at her watch, and informed us that, again, the kitchen was closing shortly. By the time we ordered, we were the only customers in the diner. Was excited to try this restaurant because I just love a good diner. The fries and ranch were very good. I got a smash burger and my husband got a chicken club (they were out of turkey). Food was alright, I wouldn't say my burger was a "smash burger" but it was fine. It is a large restaurant and was pretty full on a Monday afternoon. It seemed to be a clean environment but did have a weird, contradicting interior design. My biggest complaint was the service was sooo slow. There were people there, but it wasn't packed and they had a good amount of people working. There really wasn't a clear explanation to why it was so slow because everyone around us was getting what they needed in a timely fashion. So overall the experience was okay. I used to eat here when I first moved to charlotte and it was the closest thing to a NYC diner. It lasted for awhile and it was good. It was recently sold off to new owners who have destroyed the menu and the food. I went once when it first swapped and it was terrible. Went again a few nights ago. I had a soup and a chicken pot pie and my dad had a soup and a grilled cheese. They bring out two pieces of toast and cheese in the middle that is not melted at all. My chicken pot pie is cold. So we send both back. Out comes both again, this time my crust from my chicken pot pie is no longer there and I ask why? The server says "it melter when we heated it up" I just looked at him and finally said "are you joking, I want a new one" and im not sure what I got because it came out too fast and it was semi raw too. Best part, my dad's grilled cheese comes back out and it looks like it was killed 5 times. I ask the server "would you eat this" and he said no and I said why did you bring it out? He brings another and it's ok. Lastly? Why buy a restaurant and destroy it? I hope the old owners see this and buy it back. read more

I was a little worried when I pulled in and the parking lot was empty. The decor in the dining room reminded me of a high-end Italian restaurant that has abandoned the property. The menu was offering everything from a meat and two for under $15 to high-end steak. I chose shrimp and grits. Tomatoes, peppers, corn sausage shrimp and grits. What I did not expect was a plate that looked like jumbali. Unorthodox appearance but the flavor was fantastic. Going in for the carrot cake now portions are giant. Ended up here for Breakfast and what a treat. Cute decor, gave me NYC diner vibes. Becca was our server and she was great. I had the Belgian Waffle with whip cream and fresh strawberries. Delicious and so fresh. A side of Bacon that was O so crispy. Hubs had the French Toast and Sausage it didn't stand a chance. All was inhaled quickly and deemed "Really Good". Then came the best part, Desert. Walking in there were so many things in the Bakery case I couldn't decide. I asked our server for suggestions and she couldn't decide either so I asked her to surprise me and she did and was a Happy- Fresh Coconut Cake that tasted like Grandma made back in the day. The food looked very appetizing but something about the Mac n cheese didn't taste right. Tasted as if it was watery or old. The burger was delicious though. Service was amazing though from ms Lauren. She stayed on top of it. As far as restaurant goes ms Lauren needs to take her waitressing needs and amazing top tier service somewhere where she truly deserves it. What a little gem... My family and I visited this place last weekend on Mothers Day. I know what you're thinking....ridiculous!!!!! Especially with no reservations! Lol In my defense, we just moved here May 1st and the wife really wanted flapjacks.... Relax, I know they're called pancakes but flapjacks make it sound like a party... Anyhow, we get here with no reservation on Mother's Day, the host, an adorable sweet red head, said 30-40 mins so we of course naturally go wander off to the Harris teeter parking lot where my 2 year old, 1 year old, Mommy and me ate donuts and made funny faces at each other. 30 mins flew by. And said hostess called me. We were promptly seated and ordered our food. My wife and I were trying to paint a picture of how ridiculous we looked with crazy kids laughing and playing with sunglasses as we ate our food. And then it happened.... The nicest bearded gentleman came by to say hello. Like a kind young version of Ulysses S Grant, he was humble and kind yet clearly the leader of the flapjack brigade. He was so kind. Said hello to my kids, brought them fruit, juice and even cookies! My kids were so thrilled and my wife was so happy. It was the perfect Mothers Day Brunch. The atmosphere was so warm and welcoming and the people so kind. We will definitely be regulars and be back! Well My dinner was the best! Carolina Flounder! Huge piece and fried perfectly! Delicious Brussel Sprouts ! Had to ask for lemon and my fruit that was to come with it --- All the meals were lacking an item. And we have to talk about the cleanliness or lack of ! Bathroom, Booth ( Broken seat , and floor ! It used to be run perfectly by a Greek family ( Illios Noches) but has steadily gone downhill. It's always busy. Family and I came for breakfast on a Sunday around 9am. It was busy but not crowded. We were able to get seated quickly. The kids had pancakes and bacon - a large thick fluffy pancake and couple pieces of crispy bacon. Maple syrup was warm, which was a nice touch. I enjoyed my crispy corned beef hash and eggs. I love how they crisped up the outside of the hash while it stayed soft on the inside. Nice thick toast is included. Would love to return to try out other things on the menu. Noise level was pretty average for the breakfast crowd. We could comfortably talk without having to yell and we didn't have to compete with loud music. Service was outstanding. I mean, really outstanding. Our server was helpful, personable and very professional. She checked on us but wasn't intrusive. She got all our orders correct. In fact, every employee we encountered was great. Love this place and would love to return again. read more

If you've been a fan of Big View Diner, it will come as a shock that the parking lot is empty and the dining room is somewhat vacant at dinner on a weekend. I think others figured out what we encountered tonight: Big View is under new ownership so settle in for a new experience. Gone from the menu are some of my long time favorites so I decided to give the fish sandwich a try. What I envisioned was a golden fried piece of fish and chips but what came out were two pieces of fish, very deep fried in a heavy batter, topped with two small Roma tomato slices. I had to dig through the batter to find some fish. My table mate ordered corned beef hash that was similarly cooked to the same consistency as charcoal. The service was good and while I would have normally ordered a dessert to go, my meal was so disappointing that I wasn't interested in what may be lurking in the dessert case. A stroll through the internet confirmed that others have had similar experiences and that the restaurant is under new ownership. Hopefully they resolve these foibles and restore Big View to the glory it once held. read more

Ordered a French onion soup and waited for my waitress 5 minutes to ask for a soup spoon and was brought a tea spoon, I asked I needed a soup spoon and I was told" I am sorry but we only use those spoons.. really??? So after one year i revisited the diner again to order a cake and wow. the same disappointment as this Diner has continued to drop in Quality and service in so many ways. Multiple owners over the last few years coupled with lack of quality customer service and inept management make this a hard NO. If management doesn't know what the cake bakers are able to make and/or not make, it doesn't give me the comfort level that the leadership knows how operations work. I'm just really not gonna be walking into this diner again. read more

Our family went yesterday, Saturday, to celebrate my Mom's 87th birthday. The service was good. The atmosphere was good, we had young children, and it's a family type restaurant and environment. I must say we were disappointed with our food. I had the grilled salmon, mash potatoes and broccolini. I ate the salmon, couldn't eat the other. The potatoes looked and tasted as though they were warmed over and over again. They were actually a grayish color. My mother could not eat her Reuben sandwich. It was too crispy. Actually the toast and corned beef were over heated/toasted-it was actually hard to the touch. There were several other complaints. We used to come here often, but the food has really failed us lately. I hope this helps them consider seeking help maybe for their chefs or cooks. Btw, my mother was served last, the birthday girl! No special recognition was given for this occasion. I will say again, the waitress was a good server considering it was 15 of us.
