Unfortunately we experienced one of the worst experiences at an eating establishment. After being seated the waitress that took our order never came back to check on us and we had to ask other servers as they passed by to please fill up our coffee cups. The coffee was watered down. Once our food arrived we then had to wait about 6 minutes for silverware, which 6 minutes doesn't seem like a long time, but when your food is getting cold it does matter. One of the silverware had dried food on it so we asked for another fork that was clean. The waitress who we asked to bring us the fork forgot about it and we watched her go back and forth to at least 4 different tables...passing by our table with one of us unable to eat still waiting on a clean fork. We nicely asked another waitress for a fork and she said she would bring one, but she never did. Finally we were able to ask yet a different waitress for a clean fork and she was nice enough to bring one. The quality of the food was subpar i.e. greasy and cold. We frequent this location quite often and had a guest from out of town with us today and were completely embarrassed to have subjected her to such low quality food and service. I've eaten here a few times over the years and the meals have usually been good. Nothing outstanding but good. Yesterday, I met my mom there for lunch and had one of the lunch specials, turkey breast with dressing. The turkey breast was way over cooked, dry and mostly bone served over a mushy dressing with gravy that was not edible. My mom's meal was the soup and salad. The salad was not fresh. I try to support local non- franchise restaurants, however, this is the second subpar meal I've had at this restaurant. I won't be back. There are much better options in the area. read more

Every soup I have tried has been delicious. I especially like the vegetable soup. Today my Mama took my 4 year old for lunch. I enjoyed the hamburger steak and mashed potatoes. I chose fries for my son for my second side. My Mama loves the Philly Cheesesteak at Sun Valley Cafe. This is the first time I tried it and it was one of the best cheesesteaks I have had. I'll preface with my visit being as we were transitioning from COVID pandemic to endemic. Spouse and I went for dinner, one evening and we're very disappointed in many aspects. We went after reading several Google & Yelp reviews, she's very hesitant to try new things so I'm very careful to hedge my bets. The atmosphere was alright, family-friendly, spacing of tables good and we were seated with little wait - the restaurant was busy but not full. Once seated, it took 10-minutes for first approach, then a while to get our drinks, longer to get meal order taken and delivered and when delivered, the food left A LOT to be desired. Their French fries have always sucked so typically get a baked potato. Today, was there at the end of breakfast so asked for their home fries instead for my side. Could not believe it - a freaking upcharge to get an alternate potato side (and they are already a bit high for what you get, IMO). This place is a go to for my husband and I. The food is so good and most of the staff is nice. The only sever I would recommend avoiding at all cost is Elliott. He is so rude and will skip over you for an hour if he doesn't like you. I used to work here and he never liked me. Last Sunday April 14th, 2024 my husband, step daughter and I had to wait for an hour because he kept telling the hostesses to move onto the next people on the list. We requested a specific server, but he would have them put other people in her section. This place has amazing food and it is a great place to eat. This is a winner of a cafe. Tucked into a shopping center on Old Monroe Road you have no worry about parking. Nice people, good solid food and very fine service. Wife and I have had breakfasts and lunches here and each time has been an excellent experience. It is clean, well run and managed and the menu covers the water front, so to speak. Breakfast: one of my favorite times of the day. Typical egg dishes and meats, good generous omelettes and...hold on to your hats: THEY SERVE HASH BROWN POTATOES! Yea! I get really annoyed when a menu states hash browns and you end up with those chunks of potato that are dry and mostly flavorless. Not here. Hash browns deluxe were a treat as well as a surprise. Similar to Waffle House without the oil, their deluxe version include ham, cheese, onions and peppers. Actually, you could have just a serving of the hash browns deluxe as your meal. It is a $2.99 upgrade if you order a meal. Well worth the up charge as they are soooo yummy. The rest of the breakfast menu is loaded with a good variety of omelettes, combos that will surely bust you belly, griddle items like waffles and pancakes, and breakfast sandwiches to include breakfast burritos. All the meats to include turkey bacon and sausages, liver mush and corned beef hash. And portions are generous. What a deal! We went for lunch, but not the same day as we did breakfast. Lots of variety. Made from scratch soups each day. Salads and "plates" which include salmon and Greek salads. Wraps and sandwiches...you choose. To me the lunch and dinner menus are "diner style." In other words, they have just about anything you can think of and further that you wonder how they can stock and work the kitchen to put the variety of dishes that they offer together for you. Steak, seafood, Italian, gyros and other Greek items, hot oven subs (!), burgers and, so traditionally southern, all sorts of hot or cold veggies. There is a children's menu and desserts. Amazing! AND...in addition to all of these specific items, they have DAILY SPECIALS. I think their menu could win a competition. Couple what is offered with a kitchen that can put it together and very friendly service. Prices are reasonable. I have been here several times for breakfast and lunch. Each time I have been very happy and content with my food and service. It is a friendly and open atmosphere. There is plenty of room and seating. The booths are comfy and restaurant is clean. The service has always been great. The servers treat you like family. The are attentive to your needs and quick with orders and food. Each dish is served with A LOT of food. The portions are huge and most dinners come with TWO sides and a complementary soup. My type of deal!! I love the spaghetti sauce because it's slightly sweet and that's how I make my own. It is a meat sauce, which I tend to stay away from-but trust me this one is perfect!! This place is a hidden gem. They have everything from country breakfasts to salads, sandwiches, subs, Country veggies, burgers, gyros, steak, seafood, chicken, and Italian dishes. I had the vegetable plate with string beans, corn, Lima beans, and cucumber salad. It tasted just like Momma made it . You can get baked cornbread and a delicious roll . Hubs had a BLT with fries. The fries were great- crispy on the outside with delicious potato on the inside. He asked for extra crispy bacon and it was just right! Waitress was very nice and thoughtful- brought salt and pepper and ketchup to the table without being asked! Restrooms were clean and very nice and gender specific- yeh! Music was great oldies , played at a very nice quiet volume. You could actually carry on a conversation without shouting!. Prices were a little high - Burger prices were from $6.99 to $10.99. They did come with fries or a side salad for an additional $1.49. And, although the thermostat was set on "70" , it was too cool for us. But it was Mid-afternoon so it was not crowded at all. Many items came with a complimentary cup of soup. Today's soup was chicken noodle and it was GOOD! Sunday hours are limited so better beat the church crowd! Covid protocols were well followed but they did not offer complimentary masks. I had to go back and retrieve mine from my car.... Overall, a very nice visit . Me and my kids love this place! The food is good, all of the female servers are great, especially Lynn. The only bad experience I had was when the older male server who works there thought it would be a good idea to make not one, not two, but THREE separate comments about the amount of food I ordered (which was an egg biscuit and 2 sides of hashbrowns btw) now, I can brush off the first comment as just trying to make conversation, but after the second he obviously wasn't getting the hint by my irritated one word responses, that I was completely uncomfortable, growing to the point of anger. Or maybe he was too preoccupied talking politics with the other older guests (pretty sure politics are supposed to stay out of the workplace) so I let the girl know on the way out how inappropriate and unwelcome his comments were, especially considering he has absolutely no idea the battles I've been through with food, she was very kind and apologetic even though it was entirely not her fault. Then the next time I went I requested to simply not to sit in his section, well apparently the hostess was his granddaughter and took great offense to my request without knowing any of what happened, and after I was seated (with my son) she proceeded to walk back and forth past our table mimicking me and rolling her eyes and making faces.
