    Avocado Breakfast Sandwich
    Bret H.

Nice. Solid. Easy. I love how you can order breakfast all day long. Since I had lunch for breakfast, it only made sense that I compensate with breakfast for lunch. My colleague and I were seated without any wait, even though the place is very popular. Lots of windows contribute to the full diner experience. I went with the breakfast sandwich and was readily accommodated when I asked to swap the default scrambled eggs with over easy. The waitress gave us lots of napkins in anticipation of a gloriously messy lunch. I ran through those quickly and she gladly supplied us with more. It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience and will certainly be back soon. So many delicious options to choose from.

The food was excellent and our server, Edgar was very attentive and friendly. The chicken and waffles were amazing. We will definitely be back soon.

My food was okay overall, but the highlight for me was definitely the mimosas -- they were strong, so I'll give them credit for that! One downside was the wait time for alcoholic drinks. It took a while to get them, and because of the delay, I didn't even get a chance to order another mimosa before we were done. From what I observed, the restaurant seemed clean inside. The experience was decent, but I think improving the speed of drink service would make a big difference.

    Fried Chicken Benedict

Had breakfast at Metro and its goodness. Service was excellent. Seated promptly, order taken and very courteous. I decided to try the Fried Chicken Benedict with crispy hashbrowns. Breakfast arrived quickly and it was very good. The chicken was hot and delicious and the hashbrowns were crispy. Only complaint was the egg was a bit overcooked. Not enough to ruin the meal but still overcooked. I will be back at Metro again for sure.

Looked for brunch/breakfast that was open after 3 and this did it! Amazing food, soft eggs, tasty sausage, crispy hash browns, doughy pumpkin pancakes! Server April was kind and checked in on us! The floors could use a powerwash but overall great experience!

    Main dining

Meat lovers scrambled eggs in a bowl over hashbrowns with hollandaise sauce was delicious. My wife had pancakes. They were fantastic. The coffee was hot. The server was wonderful and it looked like it was crowded as heck on Sunday morning Memorial Day weekend but service was quick and efficient, and I even brought some home to try later on in the day. Everything went well. The place gets five stars.

In the area for a few days and had breakfast and lunch at the Metro Diner. Staff is very friendly and cheerful. For Breakfast I had the Biscuits and Sausage Gravy which is a meal in itself. It also came with eggs and hash browns. All were excellent. For Dinner I had the Loaded Burger Bowl which was also excellent. Hope to return when I am in the area again.

    Steak & Scramble Bowl

Old me would never order a steak at a diner but just TRUST me on this ya'll! When the waiter recommended the steak scramble bowl at breakfast, I was like ummm sure if that's your favorite thing I kind of have to try it and I am SO glad I did! The steak bites were some of the best I've ever had. I don't know what they're doing over there but the meat was tender, juicy, and packed with flavor! I picked up a delicious umami flavor, soy sauce maybe? And that paired perfectly with the creamy hollandaise sauce poured over top. I would definitely get that again. My husband liked his breakfast plate complete with a stack of pancakes. We'll definitely be back.

When will the lemon-blueberry pancakes be back? I have never been a big fan of pancakes but the first time I had those it was love at first sight!! I could never get enough of those and when they went away I was totally heartbroken!!

Our seasonal Lemon Blueberry pancakes, waffles, and bread pudding will most likely be back later this summer (around July) :) Happy to hear you enjoyed them!

By the…read moretime we got settled in, dining options were pretty limited, so we searched online and this spot looked like the best choice -- and we're glad we found it. When we pulled up, there was a police outside, which didn't bother us. If anything, it made things feel more secure. They also use a metal detector when you walk in before being seated. Don't let that scare you off though -- this place is a well-oiled machine and everything felt organized and under control. Our server was fantastic: calm, attentive, and never pushy. I ordered the country fried steak with collards and mashed potatoes with gravy, and my husband got a burger. My meal was excellent, and it came with a perfectly flaky biscuit. The tea was Southern SWEET tea, too. My husband said his burger was good for a diner, fresh vegetables and the fries were seasoned well. The diner itself is adorable, full of character and charm. Overall, we had a great experience and would absolutely come back.

Review for Midnight Diner…read more classic, retro-style diner--the kind with a counter, cozy booths, and a nostalgic vibe. The only thing missing is a waitress calling you "hon," and honestly, that might be part of the charm. I was craving a West Coast favorite--chicken fried steak--which I quickly learned is called country fried steak here in the South. Breakfast, lunch, or dinner... it didn't matter. I wanted comfort food, and this place delivered. I ordered takeout and picked it up without any hassle. They have their own private parking lot, which is a huge plus, especially for an Uptown location. It's situated right across from the Hyatt Regency and along the light rail, so I can imagine it gets very busy--particularly if you're heading to or leaving the Spectrum Center. This is exactly the kind of spot where you grab a solid meal to soak up whatever you've been celebrating. And the food? Generous. Very generous. My order included: * Country fried steak with gravy * Mashed potatoes * Pancakes * And, because curiosity got the best of me, their coconut French toast That coconut French toast was the wildcard--and it did not disappoint. Sweet, indulgent, and definitely a treat. Between that and the rest of the meal, it was a lot of food, but I was very happy. The price point is reasonable, the service was fast, and the whole experience felt easy and reliable--exactly what you want from a diner. Next time, I'd like to sit inside and enjoy the full experience, because the atmosphere looks like part of the fun. As someone still exploring Charlotte as a foodie after relocating from the West Coast, it's always nice to find places that deliver those nostalgic comfort-food moments--and this one absolutely did. Bottom line: Great comfort food, generous portions, easy parking, and a classic diner vibe. A solid go-to spot in Uptown, especially when you're hungry and want something satisfying.

A diner, with their wide menu, works well. And our lunch today at Mattie's was excellent. We arrived right at the tail end of the lunch rush. A friendly hostess brought us to the last booth in the front section of the restaurant and then a waitress took our drink orders. Lots of shouting and "Order ready!" from the kitchen while we looked over the menu and then placed our orders. About ten minutes later, a plate of French Toast with vegan sausage on the side for Mrs. K. Light, fluffy, delicious. The sausage was great! For me, Mattie's Mom's Meatloaf. A massive thick slice of meatloaf topped with melted cheese, grilled onions and spicy marinara. My two sides, a creamy cole slaw and green beans with bacon were excellent. We both enjoyed our meals. But the Bestie that wanted to have this met me in the parking lot scared there would be cross contamination and wanted to go elsewhere. He's been a dedicated vegan since 2008 or 2010. Either way, this ain't for play nor show. He's principled. The other vegan is really pescatarian and could careless. I have severe allergies and definitely care if there's cross contamination. Young lady seating is asked about how the cooktop works for vegan items: 1) is there a separate cooktop? 2) are new utensils used? They did a good job answering and owning what they didn't know but sought someone to answer the questions. Young lady showed us the place where we'll sit and she would go get answers and be right back. She never came back. Alas, the server showed up and he didn't know either nor did anyone ask him or inform him. I had to clean the table and seats were more upsetting to me. The busboy popped nearby and I asked for his spray bottle and he apologized saying he'd clean. H wiped everything but dried nothing. Server returned without answers but someone got another guy to explain their process. He was helpful. I was content. I can say pics on Yelp leave much to be desired but I got the chicken fried chicken + mashed potatoes and sweet potato waffle fries. The vegans got their food first and we got an explanation. I didn't care. Bring it as it's ready. I understand. Plus y'all know vegan cheese doesn't melt. Lol. I didn't desire their vegan breakfast quesadilla nor padrino (I think that's what one had). Cleanup in between flipping/turning tables doesn't really happen in the overflow and I'm good on that. Like, sweeping and wiping can be done between tables and as parties depart. A must stop for both dinner and Southern breakfast enthusiasts…read more On my way home from Charlotte, I used Yelp to find me a classic diner to start my day off right. I choose the Crack of Dawn Diner in Concord. I am so glad I did. Crack of Dawn Diner is the real thing--a local Concord breakfast-and-lunch spot serving traditional Southern fare at reasonable prices. The menu caters to local tastes, the dining room is filled with regulars, and the atmosphere is comfortable rather than trendy. Parking is somewhat limited. The private lot surrounding the restaurant was fully used so I parked in the lot next door that had signs that said private property, but it looked like other patrons were parking there also so I took the chance. As it turns out, it was safe to park there. The entrance is very welcoming, as well as the staff. Amanda was my very efficient and nice waitress. There is great teamwork here, and Amanda was well supported by, I believe, the owner who ran my food out and talked a bit with me. The menu is fascinating. A distinctly North Carolina menu. Several things jumped out: * Breakfast special for $6.59 weekdays * Breakfast plates mostly under $12 * Grits included as a side option * Livermush available * City ham and country ham both offered * Pork chops available for breakfast I ordered the country-fried steak with white gravy (essentially chicken-fried steak), along with two sunny-side-up eggs, perfectly prepared grits, a large buttermilk biscuit, and a delicious diner coffee. The restaurant occupies a stand-alone building with a warm, "come on in and rest a spell" atmosphere. Inside, you'll find counter seating, an open kitchen, and tables throughout the dining room. I chose a seat by the window overlooking the parking area. This was a great breakfast, that was reasonably priced, in a great atmosphere, with very nice people. It stuck to both my mind and ribs all day long. After breakfast, I continued on to downtown Concord and spent some time exploring one of North Carolina's most charming revitalized downtown districts. The breakfast was the perfect start to the morning. Crack of Dawn Diner has earned a spot on my repeat list whenever my travels take me through the Charlotte-Concord area.

At least it's free. Walked in and there's a line - all were waiting for take out so we were able to bypass them all and was seated right away. Good thing too as the place was just packed. Not an empty table when I went to the restroom or when we were leaving. Service was great. Team effort. Several different team members provided service. From taking your order to refills as follow up and general questions. They were busy but still took time to make sure everyone was taken care of. I say that not that I was in a big party - I meant other tables too. And the food was nice, simple and good. See pics. I wanted the meat gravy I hadn't had in a long time. Then some protein and grits of course. I cleared the plate but couldn't polish off the grits. I was so full on the sweetened ice team that there was no room for anything else. Even the tea hits different in the south, compared to California. Not saying this is the best food you'll ever have but it'll definitely be decent comfort food. Inexpensive and simple.
