This place came recommended from a friend who frequents this place because it is near his office. It also had 4 stars with ample number of reviews and was listed as one $ which is rare in Matthews. I sat at a booth on the side with the fireplace and my barber just happened to be at the table in front of me. He recommended the special so I followed suit. It came with 2 eggs, choice of meat, choose of hash browns, home fries or grits and toast or biscuits and I added white gravy. This was indeed a solid hearty breakfast for a great price. There is nothing fancy about this place but after my first experience and now having 2 friend vouch for it, I think it's safe to say that they provide a good service and consistent food in an inviting homey atmosphere. I got no problem with it.I had a glass of sweet tea, I got no problem with it.I also had a side of grits with cheese. I got a problem with that, that's why you lost one star. The grits tasted like Quaker Oats and they put a slice of cheese in it and didn't mix it up. Americana restaurant overall I got no problem with it. Yuck! This was about the worst breakfast I've had in a long time. First off about 1/4 of the staff is wearing a mask and that small percentage isn't wearing them properly. Second the service is subpar. Our server didn't make sure the lid was on top of my nieces cup and she spilled it 2 twice. She wasn't attentive, didn't wear a mask and didn't account for the mistake she made on our order. Third was the food. No one in my family enjoyed their food. No one completed a dish. We ordered 2 Western omelettes (1 with grits and toast the other with hashbrowns and toast), 2 Country Fried Steaks (both with grits, eggs and toast). The toast was cold at arrival to the table. My husband and I both grew up in Matthews and recently moved back. We have never eaten here before tonight. Can I just say WOW!!! I got the double cheeseburger with fries and ordered a side salad. He ordered the pork soulvaki meal and again WOW! The burger was awesome, Juicy and a tiny greasy but just the right amount. I let some of it drip (came out slowly) over my fries. Sooo AMAZING! And I don't gush over burgers. The tzatziki sauce was easily the best I have ever had and I am a tzatziki snob. I feel bad for overlooking them in the past, no reason, I just have. Great food with a large menu. They have numerous daily specials with expansive veggie menu. The restaurant is nice and has that southern homey feel. The staff is friendly and attentive. They do a great job with takeout orders, having most orders usually completed the times I've ordered done in around 10 minutes. Portions are good. The cornbread is excellent, as is the collard greens, potato salad and most sides. My husband always gives the fish a 10/10. Always prompt and efficient. Prices are very reasonable! Forget getting a refill on drinks. I know a lot of it has to do with there being many jobs to choose from now after the Pandemic,but they could still hire people that give a darn!! I am in the area frequently to visit family and this place is very close to where I stay. The location isn't anything out of an architecture magazine-but the food and service are fantastic. I opted for over medium eggs during both visits and they were perfect. My coffee mug was never empty. The wait staff is polite and attentive. I will keep returning. read more

Nothing like a local favorite. We lived literally 1mile away and hadn't been there until recently. I'm glad we went! The service is great, it's definitely a locals hangout. The servers knew people by name! The daily specials are great options and there's something for everyone. We've fallen in love with the chicken fried steak...OMG so yummy! I just relocated to Charlotte and it had been years since I've been here. My parents and I stopped in on 7:30 Monday night and it was steady, but not busy. We sat at a large table right at the front and our waitress was quick, efficient, and friendly. We never went without a drink (which is a huge indicator for quality service in my opinion). I opted to get the special which was fried chicken and gravy over mashed potatoes and 2 sides (they have plenty of side options and I chose fried squash and a salad). My mom got pork tips over rice with collards and a salad, and my dad chose pork chops with fries and a salad. The portions were great for the price (each entree roughly $7.95) and the food was tasty. My only issue was my fried chicken was a little dry. I could still eat it, but it definitely required sauce. Overall great diner with reasonable prices and good service. read more

I ended up getting the souvlaki and it was one of the best versions I've ever had. The owner apparently didn't like that I used a delivery service but the taste to price ratio was off the charts. My family got takeout from the Americana last weekend and really enjoyed it. I got a grilled chicken salad and was pleasantly surprised at how flavorful and juicy the chicken was. Our order was rather late in the evening and I expected the chicken to have been refrigerated and on the dry side. On the contrary the chicken had been cooked fresh and was really delicious. The lettuce was fresh and crisp (again a pleasant surprise) and the house ranch was tasty. My daughter ordered the calabash shrimp with fries and onion rings. The shrimp had a great flavor, a bit greasy for my liking but my daughter and husband both enjoyed it. The fries and onion rings were nicely cooked and crispy even after the drive from the restaurant to the house. The portions were generous and the prices were fair. We'll be back! read more

Used to be one of our go-to places. Good food and decent service. Friendly atmosphere. Supported a few times with to go orders during closure. When dining in was allowed, we immediately went back. Disappointed that mask wearing was not enforced among employees especially considering large portion of customers are high risk. Came back after mandated mask wearing. Also ordered a side of fried squash which was excellent as usual. Coleslaw was fine chopped, which is not my preference, but tasted slightly sweet and was crunchy and freshly made. Fries a bit soggy and shoestring style. Portion good for me, but most people would wonder why skimp on the fries. Great service, as usual. Great prices. Nothing beats the Americana for breakfast; cheap, delicious, and fast. It is becoming a Saturday morning tradition for me.
