This place doesn't get enough love. A Charlotte classic : Kopper Kettle. Don't expect anything fancy. This place looks like it is stuck in the '70s with brown decor everywhere. However, the service is great (our waitress was wearing reindeer antlers and a smile the whole time- it's December, after all) The prices are phenomenal and have not changed on what I ordered since before 2020 hit ! Now THAT'S good business management and I'd bet they own the building too. My biscuits and gravy cost $4.25. The biscuits were nice and fluffy. Sawmill gravy is not my favorite but it's good here. Now, if they had sausage gravy, I think I'd be here once a week ! The browned potatoes were $2.50. These weren't as good as the last time. These here were more like fried mashed potatoes, but they were still good. Hubby's french toast biscuits and syrup were $5. You MUST get this if you haven't tried it ! The crunch of the toasted, fried biscuits brings french toast to another level. I don't think this is actually on the menu, but ask for it and the staff will know what you are talking about before you even finish your sentence. You can get the french toast biscuit as a sandwich too. You tip at the table and then bring your check to the register just like the 'ol days. Open until 11:30am only. read more

First Timer! I think they noticed- but the good news, I will definitely be back. Went for a late lunch. The place was so clean- which I very much appreciate. We happen to be the only ones there so service was quick. My table got a Grilled Cheese and a Pita Burger. Both Hot, Fresh and Yummy. When paying at the counter they told us to come back for breakfast on Saturday's "It's a Fun Time" So I will be sure to go. Always love supporting local and family owned. read more

This place I liked very much. Reminds me of back home. Just some nice, country folks having a good southern meal. The servers were nice. The food took a while to come out. The scrambled eggs were a bit undercooked and the gravy had a whole jar of pepper in it, at least that's how it tasted, I couldn't eat it. Hash browns and biscuits were bomb though. The Kettle is a Charlotte staple. Has been around as long as I can remember and I am a 52 year old local. Stopped by this morning for a breakfast to go. Had a great cup of black coffee while I waited that needed no cream or sugar. I highly recommend the Bacon Smashpot on a cool morning. Got mine with an over hard egg and toast. May not eat again until dinner. Plenty of food, with a great flavor. Warmed me up nicely. Friendly staff as well. Heard the owner ask another patron about their mom. It's not a great neighborhood, surrounded by industrial properties and right off the Interstate. Still, it's a classic and the food probably hasn't changed in forty years. "Comfort" options abound. Prices are quite reasonable, too. I took a seat at the counter and enjoyed a bit of cable television with my meal. I never did find out if Maverick was able to help that nice newspaper lady. I ordered a cheese omelet, which came with toast and home fries. Interesting potatoes, which were closed to mashed and then grilled. Good, but different. Omelet was a good portion. Lots and lots of coffee. I'll be back to the Kettle, no doubt. read more

Very nice little quant place . Was greeted immediately by the lady at the front door. The waitress sherry I believe was awesome. She remembers orders and they are extremely family oriented . My wife and I ventured out of our vanilla Ballantyne neighborhood on Saturday morning in search of something more nostalgic and homey than the sterile chains in our area. Thanks to Yelp reviews, we discovered the Kopper Kettle in Pineville. What a refreshing experience! Yes it's old. The booths are wooden and the art work ancient but the food was reasonable and perfectly prepared. I went simple... Two fried eggs, three strips of lean, crispy bacon, grits, two biscuits and coffee.. all for $7.29. Everything was great. My wife was more adventurous and ordered the Greek omelet which was huge and loaded with feta cheese, olives and onions. It was moist and impeccably prepared. Finally the service was exemplary and warm. I would have been disappointed if our waitress didn't call me honey. I loved the fact that the joint was also filled with regulars. We both liked Vince's review, so put Kopper Kettle into the GPS and off we went. It was as Vince described. Pretty gritty and unappealing on the outside, but we went in anyway. My wife told me to go in first. The inside was very nice. Dated, but clean and the booths looked like they had been recently recovered. This was about 9:30am, so there were only three tables occupied and the waitress immediately took care of us. Menu is about as basic as you can get for breakfast. No surprises except two; the Smash Pot plate and the Kettle Kids breakfast. Otherwise regular breakfast assortment. Wife had the Smash Pot which we learned is smashed potatoes, not mashed smooth, but chunky smashed potatoes fried on the grill with onions and peppers. Biscuits were her bread choice. Hearty and good. A couple of squirts from the hot sauce bottle did it right. I went for the bacon and American cheese omelette and it was three eggs and nicely stuffed with crisp bacon and gooey cheese. Came with smashed potatoes and toast. I was happy. Their biscuits were better than most. They were firm, yet soft and flavorful. So many of the biscuits we experience are hard, readily fall apart making a crumb mess and lack flavor. I ended up eating one of wife's biscuits. We were already full of car dealer waiting room machine coffee so I had some nice half and half ice tea with lemon and wife did do with water. The bill was around $18 for the two of us. Good reasonable prices. So Vince hit it right and we thank him for his Yelp! review. read more

It's not much on the outside or inside. I guess it's been here since the 70s and it shows it. On the plus side: our food was good. Server was sort of friendly. On the con side: it's dark and out of date. I ordered a Coke to drink and got a can. I don't like canned soda pop, plus you don't get free refills. It's an old school Greek diner under the guise of a restaurant. They have 7 or 8 specials everyday! My wife and I will go there during the week, eat our meals, order a meal for her dad to go, take our leftovers and feed all of us for at least another day. If you go here and aren't happy with the menu or if you don't get filled up, you're either too picky or don't know how to eat! Oh, and the friendly staff is so cool. got to the shop this morning and all the regulars eventually showed up which meant I had the day off! yea! needed to get something for MLB on the south side so this was mostly convenient today. wandered in around 9:00, guessing I missed the morning rush since there was plenty of room everywhere to enjoy a cup of coffee with breakfast :-) took about ten minutes for my victuals to arrive which was just about right: two eggs nestled between a pile of grits and some corned beef hashes plus biscuits. I think the hot sauce is defective since a little shake on the eggs didn't perk 'em up any, and after soaking up yolks with biscuit centers I made egg sandwiches and blasted them with Tejas Pete to no avail, the sauce is heatless :-( feels like 1976 in here and the hash was crisped up all nice and maillardy with a soft center so kudos to the cook and yea for me. I've come to expect good grits in the "post-My Cousin Vinny"-South and good grits I is what I got, so yea for me again! read more

When a place is opened 45 years you know they are doing something right. I would have never ventured in here because it is not in a road that I am normally on. But we were coming home from a road trip and was searching for some comfort food we were very pleased. We came in and were seated right away. There seemed to be tons of regulars but we didn't feel out of place at all! We ordered French toast, biscuits and gravy and a breakfast platter. Simple, but it hit the spot! First time eating here. Co-worker picked up order after calling it in. I ordered fried pork chops, pickled beets, applesauce, cornbread, a side salad and 1/2 & 1/2 tea. The pork chops were dry, beets and applesauce came from a can or jar, cornbread was ok, salad was iceberg only with 1/4 of a tomato. Yea was the best part. Was not worth $17. read more

Mediocre at best. Don't waste your time! The Philly Cheesesteak Omelette was INCREDIBLY dry and flavorless- I had the drown in in Texas Pete to add flavor and rehydrate the eggs, but it didn't work. Wasn't able to tolerate more than 4 bites. My omelette came with potatoes that I didn't try because one first of the morning disappointment is enough for me. It also came with a biscuit that was, you guessed it, also dry and since there was only a butter flavored substitute I decided that was a NO GO for me. As far as the coffee goes...... Who has horrible coffee? My hospital and the Kopper Kettle! Save your time, your money, and your appetite and go somewhere else! Anywhere else will do! This restaurant made me hungry for MC DONALDS! Solid 3 stars for this "meat and 3" kind of a joint even though you get 2 sides. I got the gyro and it was very tasty. I thought the meat was sliced way too thin. It would be an even better sandwich with thicker cuts. That was my only knock. The fries were that frozen and reheat kind. At least that is what they tasted like. Did not enjoy those at all. Service was good. I did have to remind the waitress to fill my water glass. But other than that they were very attentive. read more
