We came around 9ish for breakfast while visiting some friends. It was pretty busy but the wait was only about 7 minutes. The servers were friendly but definitely dont have time to "chit chat" during this time. The atmosphere is casual and the pricing is reasonable. We ordered the cornbread hash, biscuits and gravy, French toast, bacon and grits. Everything was delicious! We will definitely be back the next time we are in town. read more

- Onion rings : flavorless unless you dip them in ranch - Salad: very basic salad but mid with dressing - Chicken Parm: Chicken had flavor, heavier on the salt side but overall decent. The spaghetti had a different sauce and flavor than the chicken and was very underwhelming. I ended up finding a hair in my pasta so I didn't finish it per the picture. - Salmon: Was decent, rice was tasteless. - Broccoli casserole: sad looking and okay - Fruit Cup: sadness, came out of cans. He never steered me wrong and when I recently drove past the Palace Restaurant brimming with automobiles, I thought of my father and said to Lori, "we're going here Saturday for breakfast." The food was very good and fresh! I ordered the Grilled Chicken wrap. It was very good, and the bacon was NOT chewy or tough so I enjoyed that. I got ranch and honey mustard to dip my wrap in as well as my fries. The ranch was delicious. The honey mustard was to die for! It was amazing!!!! However, the bathrooms could have used a little cleaning to them but otherwise everything was great. Friendly staff, and our server was super sweet. read more

I went to this restaurant that is near my new home because it always appears to be busy. I went for breakfast one morning, and I must say I was very disappointed. The food was very average, everything that I asked for was an upcharge, and the waitress was not very attentive at all. I will probably give them a second chance because of their proximity to my house as there isn't a lot of other places to choose from, and I hope the next experience will be better. read more

Our first Saturday morning visit to "The Palace" restaurant in Monroe, North Carolina. This spot was recommended by two of Shelly's teaching colleagues, Monica Potts and Logan Ellis. I could immediately tell this was going to be good, because the place was pretty full at 9 AM and there were lots of "old timers." (I am getting dangerously close to becoming an "old timer" myself now...) https://palacerestaurant.net We both had omelettes, Shelly had the veggie omelette, and I had the meat lovers with the addition of onions and jalapeños. We both also had biscuits, which was a splurge, and grits with cheese. The grits were good, some of the better ones I've had, but not as good as the grits at John Gs in Peachland. Service was excellent. Like many rural diners, they did not have any special nondairy, milk substitutes, but I'm used to that and that was fine. The real unique experience was trying "liver mush" for the first time. We discussed it with our server, so she brought Shelly a complementary serving. It was cooked, and basically fried. I found it unusual, but not particularly appetizing. Still, it's probably good that we tried it once. It is the attached photo that looks a bit like a thin brownie. The food here was good and solid quality, atmosphere was good, and I love how close it is to the Union County farmers market and downtown Monroe! We will definitely be back here. This place was super busy on a Sunday afternoon... but we'll worth the wait. The food was delicious. I had a broiled flounder with the broccoli casserole... both were a 10/10. The kids had lasagna (not your traditional but creamy and tasty) and the chicken tenders. Very generous portions and well priced. The hubby had chicken tips over potatoes with yams and Mac n cheese. We will def be coming back! Just try to avoid Sunday after church as it's super crowded. read more

Every town has a a palace-type food service place. Everyone for a generation or three knows it. It has good food, well prepared, no frills, no glamour, good prices and all the locals eat there. Usually the parking lot is full. I got breakfast at 11 a.m. It is very hard to get eggs over easy right. These were excellent. The coffee was good, sometimes these days it is not, plus hash browns, and bacon, but you could choose any options as one usually finds. My friend had a burger and terrific little fries that looked like batons. I am no fan of fries but I'll get these myself next time. And I'll go back. A good choice for taking a visiting friend out for breakfast. read more

The service is great, the food is great with exception of those sugar waffles that have gained in popularity lately (I don't care for them at all), but orders come with very generous portions. The atmosphere is typical of similar places, but it's definitely a step above Waffle House. I've had the smother chicken and biscuits and it's delicious and enough for two people to be full. This is your basic American breakfast place. I know they do lunch, but I've never had it there. I go for breakfast because it's a good hearty breakfast made well and served fast. It's been in Monroe for a long time but they've kept it up well, and they probably do the best breakfast in town. I've had many items on the menu and none of them were disappointing. All I can say is watch your receipt. A few weeks ago I gave a $10 for a to go order and later saw the cashier added a $20 tip. When I called back, oh it was a mistake and they refunded $10. Today I ordered to go and saw a $10 that I didn't authorize (wasn't even asked). I called back and was told there is a $10 gratuity on to go orders for 6 or more plates. I told her we only had 5 plates, she quickly changed to say the gratuity is on orders of $50 or more. That is ridiculous, you are forced to tip them. Really, $10 for putting food in a bag to go. My company orders lunches from there. Needless to say, we won't be ordering again. Sad that a company has waitresses that rob their customers and nothing is done about it. read more
