While visiting Charlotte with my daughter, we were excited to try Red Eye Diner after hearing good things. Unfortunately, we never even had the opportunity to eat because of what happened as we entered the restaurant. As I walked in, the heavy metal door clipped my toe, causing a deep cut that immediately started bleeding profusely. There was blood everywhere. Still in shock, I looked at the host and asked, "Um...where's the bathroom?" He awkwardly pointed me in the right direction. Once inside the restroom, I found there were no paper towels and the sink was dirty, making it even more difficult to clean the wound. My daughter grabbed napkins while I searched for someone who could help or provide a first aid kit. I stood there bleeding, with other customers looking on uncomfortably, while no employee checked on me. Eventually, an employee asked if I needed something. I calmly asked for a first aid kit. I was trying to hold myself together and was on the verge of tears. After some time, he located one and essentially tossed it toward my daughter. He seemed visibly annoyed rather than concerned. No one asked if I was okay, offered assistance, or showed even a small amount of empathy. Once I was able to get the bleeding under control enough to walk, I left in tears and returned to my hotel to properly clean and bandage my foot. Not a single employee checked on me before I left. In fact, it felt like everyone simply disappeared. Because of the incident, I can't comment on the food. However, I can comment on the customer service, and it was incredibly disappointing. Accidents happen--I don't blame the restaurant for that. What I do blame is the complete lack of compassion, urgency, and basic concern shown toward an injured guest who was actively bleeding in the middle of the restaurant. I'm not someone who leaves negative reviews lightly, and I'm certainly not looking for special treatment. I simply expected a little kindness and concern. A simple "Are you okay?" or "Can we help you?" would have gone a long way. Instead, my 12-year-old daughter was the only person helping me while the staff seemed inconvenienced by the situation. Based on this experience, I can't recommend supporting a business that responds to an injured customer with such indifference. read more

I'm so happy we made it out without getting food poisoning. This was hands down the worst breakfast food I've purchased. The eggs were cooked so hard as to taste of sulfur. The grits were kept warm so long they became one lump and nearly sentient. The sausage was (theme?$ so over cooked as to be nearly jerky. The staff was so nice though. The grits were thick and creamy. The sausage links and eggs were good. Our friend's chicken wrap looked good. She said the fries were really good. A step back in time. Very 1950s in all respects. We stumbled on to the diner looking for another lunch place. It is pretty hidden, located on an interior alley running between some buildings. A great menu. Will be surprised if you did not fine SOMETHING to your liking. Prices reasonable. Wife had a burger and I had a big salad and a side of hashbrown potatoes. With a Jukebox, glossy red everything, metal coating, and photos of celebrities, it's a lot of fun! Our waitress was a gem. She was friendly, attentive, and quick. Everything was delicious except for the grits that I ordered on the side...it tasted like it was made with mildew water. I ate it and was fine but it didn't taste great at all. The biscuits and gravy were phenomenal!! I would definitely order those again. NFC wildcard weekend, so a 25 minute wait for a table wasn't unexpected or out of the ordinary. It did take about 15 minutes, and us contacting a server directly, to finally get someone to bring bus some water and take our order. Once all of that unpleasantness was done, we had a good experience. The server was knowledgeable of the menu and gave us good advice on dishes. We were in Charlotte to see a comedian and arrived an hour early. We took a walk around uptown to find a snack. We stumbled upon Red Eye Diner, which didn't look busy and we figured they could get us in and out quickly. The ambiance is what you would expect from a diner. Dowop pictures on the wall and a big laminated menu with lots of options including breakfast all day. I wasn't hungry, but there is always room for dessert. I got the banana pudding with vanilla wafers and whipped cream on top. It was just ok. The pudding wasn't as thick and I typically like, but all and all it was good enough for my snack. My family was much hungrier and got chicken and waffles and added Mac and cheese. It's the eggy baked kind of Mac and cheese. The waffle was excellent and the fried chicken wings were fresh, crisp, and well spiced. Our bill was affordable and the service was great! I will add that when we left and got to the theatre my iPhone dinged me that I left my AirPods. I called the dinner and they immediately answered and looked but didn't see them. I went into the "find my" app and realized they fell out in my car and were showing in the parking deck. What is otherwise an average at best menu but open late at night is made otherwise subpar and disgusting to say the least. 2 hours prior we placed an order off their website because there was a massive line "while they tried to get some people out of there" and consequently asked multiple times if our website order was ready. 4 different staff said please wait outside in the cold and we'll get you the food when it's ready. No one checked to see if it was actually in or apologized. This place doesn't care. This is the type of service the manager Tim teaches staff to treat customers with. After over an hour we go in and speak to Erin who says she busy but when she gets time she'll go check. Well they unplugged their order machine or it wasn't working (told two different stories) & told us (not asked us to or apologized) to sit down and she'll place it again & it's not her fault. Another hour passes and she's busy talking to other servers/laughing. Over 8 people working there and none apologized or tried to make it right. Erin finally tells us to take the food and go! Get out! Like I said disgusting behavior and food. We even asked for a refund and she refused and asked me "what is your problem"? When I told her is there a manager; this is horrible. Located in downtown Charlotte I had a mixed experience. The server was a downer "what do you want" welcome that killed any ambience but the cashier was cheerful. My French fries were frigid but they provided fresh fries after I asked that were delivered after I finished my burger. What happened to us at this diner was honestly unbelievable. We walked in expecting a simple meal, and at first our waitress, Kristina, acted completely friendly. There were no warnings, no comments, no signs of any issue the entire time we were there. But the moment we got up to leave, it was like a switch flipped. Kristina suddenly started talking to us crazy, acting like we had overstayed -- even though she never once said a word while we were dining. If there was truly a problem, she had every chance to speak up. Instead, she waited until we were heading out to unleash this attitude out of nowhere. And then it got worse. Instead of just communicating like normal adults, the staff decided to escalate the situation to the extreme. They actually called four police officers on us -- over absolutely nothing. We had already paid, we were literally walking out the door, and next thing we know, officers are showing up like we did something wrong. The whole incident was embarrassing, unnecessary, and honestly surreal. No customer should ever be treated like that or made to feel like a problem for simply existing in a restaurant. Management seriously needs to take a hard look at how their staff -- especially Kristina -- is handling customers, because this was one of the most unprofessional experiences I've ever had. I won't be returning, and I'd advise anyone who values basic respect to think twice before going here. read more
