My husband got the red eye special, and shared his pancakes with me, and I got a sausage egg and cheese biscuit. Everything was delicious! It was a true diner that definitely takes you back. I'm so happy we made it out without getting food poisoning. This was hands down the worst breakfast food I've purchased. The eggs were cooked so hard as to taste of sulfur. A step back in time. Very 1950s in all respects. We stumbled on to the diner looking for another lunch place. It is pretty hidden, located on an interior alley running between some buildings. NFC wildcard weekend, so a 25 minute wait for a table wasn't unexpected or out of the ordinary. It did take about 15 minutes, and us contacting a server directly, to finally get someone to bring bus some water and take our order. Once all of that unpleasantness was done, we had a good experience. The server was knowledgeable of the menu and gave us good advice on dishes. We were staying at a nearby hotel (AC) within walking distance and I needed a hearty breakfast before an all day tattoo session. RedEye is decorated like you're in a 50's diner. With a Jukebox, glossy red everything, metal coating, and photos of celebrities, it's a lot of fun! Our waitress was a gem. She was friendly, attentive, and quick. We ordered the RedEye Special with a waffle, waffle with blueberry compote, and biscuits with gravy. Everything was delicious except for the grits that I ordered on the side...it tasted like it was made with mildew water. I ate it and was fine but it didn't taste great at all. The biscuits and gravy were phenomenal!! I would definitely order those again. Overall, great place to go for early morning breakfast, especially if you're staying at the AC hotel where it's just an elevator ride down and few steps away. I just don't recommend the grits. There was a so called host on my right that didn't even acknowledge me until one of the servers informed me that I will be seated shortly The server La'Mario was nice but the moment I received my food, he instantly asked if everything was ok. Came here while in town for my college reunion. We had Jasmine as our server. She was great and knowledgeable with the menu selections. I got the 2 eggs breakfast with scrambled eggs with cheese, Turkey bacon and hashbrowns. It was good and filling and I couldn't finish it. Red Eye has the BEST grits in Charlotte. I'm not sure how they achieve the consistency and creamy taste but they have it figured out! I ordered Fish and Grits. This is not in the menu as a meal however they can pair the two items together a la carte. You will not be disappointed. read more

Cute diner, nice location, very clean. I arrived at 9:30 am on 5/1/2026, and was seated at a 4 top. When I requested a booth, the waiter told me that was his section; in other words, "no you can't have a booth, you need to sit in my section!" although there were vacant booths because the restaurant wasn't full. Placed order, waited .30 minutes, when I inquired about my order he stated that the chicken for the chicken and waffles was being freshly made. .15 minutes later he tells us that the cook did not put our order in. He lied! We waited almost an hour for our order. Customers who arrived after us ate and left while we were left waiting for an order that our waiter never put in. Finally, when I was ready to leave due to the lousy service, he showed up with the breakfast dishes. This type of service is unacceptable and I regret not walking out sooner. Perhaps a different waiter would have provided a different experience but this waiter was very off putting. To the manager of this establishment; I don't think that a waiter should tell me that I can't be seated at an available booth because it doesn't benefit him. Flew into charlotte for the football game . Stopped by this place cuz it was open late . Food took an hour and server was inattentive. Wife ordered the club and they forgot to put the bacon inside . Our waiter was nice and checked in on us a few times during our time there, and he was nice enough to wait for us to figure out what we wanted from their extensive menu. Thank you RedEye Diner for being one of the few places in Charlotte that is open 24-7!! Back in the day when I was young I would have been here often after a night of drinking. Now days I love it because after an event in uptown sometimes there isn't a lot open and if you want to find a place to sit and eat it can be hard to find something. We were in Charlotte to see a comedian and arrived an hour early. We took a walk around uptown to find a snack. We stumbled upon Red Eye Diner, which didn't look busy and we figured they could get us in and out quickly. The ambiance is what you would expect from a diner. Dowop pictures on the wall and a big laminated menu with lots of options including breakfast all day. I wasn't hungry, but there is always room for dessert. I got the banana pudding with vanilla wafers and whipped cream on top. It was just ok. The pudding wasn't as thick and I typically like, but all and all it was good enough for my snack. My family was much hungrier and got chicken and waffles and added Mac and cheese. It's the eggy baked kind of Mac and cheese. The waffle was excellent and the fried chicken wings were fresh, crisp, and well spiced. Our bill was affordable and the service was great! I will add that when we left and got to the theatre my iPhone dinged me that I left my AirPods. I called the dinner and they immediately answered and looked but didn't see them. I went into the "find my" app and realized they fell out in my car and were showing in the parking deck. What is otherwise an average at best menu but open late at night is made otherwise subpar and disgusting to say the least. 2 hours prior we placed an order off their website because there was a massive line "while they tried to get some people out of there" and consequently asked multiple times if our website order was ready. 4 different staff said please wait outside in the cold and we'll get you the food when it's ready. No one checked to see if it was actually in or apologized. This place doesn't care. This is the type of service the manager Tim teaches staff to treat customers with. After over an hour we go in and speak to Erin who says she busy but when she gets time she'll go check. Well they unplugged their order machine or it wasn't working (told two different stories) & told us (not asked us to or apologized) to sit down and she'll place it again & it's not her fault. Another hour passes and she's busy talking to other servers/laughing. Over 8 people working there and none apologized or tried to make it right. Erin finally tells us to take the food and go! Get out! Like I said disgusting behavior and food. We even asked for a refund and she refused and asked me "what is your problem"? When I told her is there a manager; this is horrible. What happened to us at this diner was honestly unbelievable. We walked in expecting a simple meal, and at first our waitress, Kristina, acted completely friendly. There were no warnings, no comments, no signs of any issue the entire time we were there. But the moment we got up to leave, it was like a switch flipped. Kristina suddenly started talking to us crazy, acting like we had overstayed -- even though she never once said a word while we were dining. If there was truly a problem, she had every chance to speak up. Instead, she waited until we were heading out to unleash this attitude out of nowhere. And then it got worse. Instead of just communicating like normal adults, the staff decided to escalate the situation to the extreme. They actually called four police officers on us -- over absolutely nothing. We had already paid, we were literally walking out the door, and next thing we know, officers are showing up like we did something wrong. The whole incident was embarrassing, unnecessary, and honestly surreal. No customer should ever be treated like that or made to feel like a problem for simply existing in a restaurant. Management seriously needs to take a hard look at how their staff -- especially Kristina -- is handling customers, because this was one of the most unprofessional experiences I've ever had. I won't be returning, and I'd advise anyone who values basic respect to think twice before going here. read more

There are not a lot of choices open late downtown but redeye is. Epicenter is not what it used to be before COVID. Redeye diner still going strong to feed all the transit workers from CTC and whatever business nearby. The portion is big which is expected from a diner. read more

Located in downtown Charlotte I had a mixed experience. The server was a downer "what do you want" welcome that killed any ambience but the cashier was cheerful. My French fries were frigid but they provided fresh fries after I asked that were delivered after I finished my burger.
