    Hamachi crispy rice
    Alexis P.

Went to Uchi for my birthday dinner and had such a great experience from start to finish. Booking the reservation was super easy. When we arrived, we were greeted with a sweet little "Happy Birthday" card displayed at the table, which I thought was such a thoughtful touch and a really nice acknowledgment. Our server was amazing -- so attentive, knowledgeable, and helpful walking us through the menu and explaining the different dining options between à la carte and omakase (which I'll definitely be coming back to try). Throughout the night, we ordered a mix of dishes. Some highlights for me were the Hamachi Chili, the yellowtail nigiri, and the salmon toro nigiri (salmon belly). Yellowtail is my favorite fish and Uchi absolutely delivered. We also ordered the hot rock, short ribs, Hamachi crispy rice, spicy crunchy tuna roll, and oysters from the daily specials menu. The oysters were fresh, although on the smaller side. The hamachi crispy rice had a sauce that was kick to it - FYI. One thing that really stood out was how generous and hospitable the staff was throughout the evening. We received dishes for us to try including the tempura killer cauliflower and chicken karaage, which was such a nice surprise and made the experience feel even more special. I love the Thai chili flavors the chicken karaage had, and the pickled radish and cucumbers were refreshing with the dish. They treated me to a complimentary cocktail for my birthday called the Mitsu Mitsu and it was SO good -- if you like yuzu/citrus flavors, I highly recommend ordering it. Overall, it was such a memorable birthday dinner and the service truly elevated the entire experience.

Come hungry, leave hungry or spend a fortune. The service and ambiance is amazing, the food is good (some really good) but it's expensive small plates. For example we got the kinoko rabe (mushroom and rice dish) for $24 plus $8 for beef- honestly I didn't even see meat. I think I had one tiny bite. Again, the food is good. It's just very over priced and there wasn't a real dish with substance

I had *such* an incredible experience at Uchi that I had to share. We did the 9-course happy hour tasting, and every single dish was thoughtfully curated, beautifully presented, and honestly just so good. The pacing was perfect, it felt like a journey rather than just a meal. Each course built on the last, with a mix of flavors and textures that kept surprising us (in the best way). You can really tell how much care goes into both the food and the overall experience. Service was just as impressive, our server Leah was phenomenal!!! 10/10. attentive without being overbearing, and super knowledgeable when walking us through each course. If you're even thinking about trying the happy hour tasting, do it. (4-6pm I believe) It's 100% worth it and such a fun way to experience the menu. We will definitely be back!

If you've ever been to Uchi Charlotte, you already know--but this one blew me away. I've dined at the original Austin location and the Houston and Dallas spots many times for business, and I honestly never thought we'd get an Uchi in Charlotte. Not only did it arrive--it exceeded every expectation. This was, without question, one of the best dining experiences I've ever had. The service is flawless, the pacing is perfect, and every dish feels intentional and elevated. The omakase? Easily the best I've ever had. Creative, balanced, and just consistently incredible from start to finish. Charlotte just leveled up in a big way

Wow I don't even know where to begin.. the food and service was incredible here and we were honored to have been their very first guests ever served at their soft opening! Every single dish we had was amazing and we're so excited for Uchi to be here in Charlotte in the Plaza Midwood area- it's going to be a game changer in the restaurant scene here, something that Charlotte has desperately been needing. Highly recommend everyone check them out when they open- you will NOT be disappointed. The freshest sushi in CLT hands down- straight FIRE Overall: 5/5 - we'll forever think about this amazing meal When: 4pm Saturday, dine in with reservation at the bar Food: 5/5 - We ordered the sake toro (salmon belly) nigiri, namahotate (dayboat scallop) nigiri, hamachi (yellowtail) nigiri, gyutoro (wagyu) nigiri, kurodai (black bream) nigiri, shima aji (striped jack) nigiri, edamame, chicken karaage, hama chili, walu walu (grilled escolar), kinoko nabe with gyutoro, and jasmine cream dessert. ALL of the nigiri was SO SO FRESH and each bite was unbelievable. They fly in their fish every 2-3 from Japan! The gyutoro nigiri was one of the best bites I've ever had... I could cry thinking about how good it was :') The wagyu just melted and disappeared in your mouth. Please give me 5 more of these!!! Now we understand the hype behind the hama chili.. the combination with the ponzu, thai chili and orange made for a fresh, crisp, refreshing and light dish that had a sweetness to it and blended all ingredients together perfectly- YUM! So my boyfriend does NOT like any seafood and never has his whole life. However, I encouraged him to try some since it was a special occasion with such high quality fish. To both of our surprise, he actually enjoyed ALL of it! But especially the walu walu and hama chili. Turns out his palette only likes boujee, fresh fish and will not eat anything less smh. If you have anyone in your party that doesn't like seafood, there's still plenty for them to eat here. There wasn't a single dish that we didn't like. The only dish we would skip on next time would be the kinoko nabe and jasmine cream dessert; not because it wasn't good (they both were!), only because we loved the other dishes a lot more and rather try other fish focused dishes- that's truly where they shine. We wanted to try EVERYTHING and had no idea where to start. One suggestion is that if you have guests not familiar with the menu, give them recommendations on which dishes are shareable / how large they are or how many dishes to order in each category on the menu. Drink: 4.9/5 - Sorry i'm running out of characters for this review so can't elaborate lol- all amazing! NA Zero proof Akabanaa (hibiscus and lime) Hachi no haza (fords gin, rosemary, yuzu honey) Xo old fashioned (wild turkey rye, xo syrup, jasmine bitters) Service: 5/5 - Every staff member we came across was so kind and had the best energy. They looked all SO happy and excited to be apart of the Uchi team! All of their staff spends at least one month training and memorizing the menu. As each dish was dropped off, they explained every ingredient in each dish and how to eat each dish in order to enjoy them to the fullest. A huge shoutout to our bartender/server Monet- she was THE BEST! Also, Alex at the bar was awesome too- easy to talk to. We overheard a few other servers/cooks moving to CLT from other Uchi locations which only shows how much experience they already have in house and how much the staff love working there. Their manager David also came over to check in on us and welcome us in- he along with everyone else was so kind and enthusiastic to finally be open (P.s. David, go check out the WWC asap!) Vibe: 4.9/5 - Uchi is in a historic, renovated manufacturing brick building. It was hard for us to judge the true vibe since we were there at a soft opening and the place was not at full capacity. However, with the current ambiance, lighting + music we could for sure see the vision and how much fun it would be for a date night, business meal, or especially a GNO! Uchiba upstairs was not open yet so we were unable to check it out but I expect it to be a ~viiibbeeee~ Other: It's a higher end, pricier restaurant. But the quality of their food is unmatched and you are getting what you're paying for- 100% worth the prices on their menu. Currently, their google/apple maps location does not take you to the correct spot. Uchi is NOT located at the Edison apartments. It's located in its own brick building across Commonwealth Ave from Harriett's Hamburgers. They're working on getting the map location updated with google + apple! Parking is in the parking garage by Harriett's. It is paid parking, not sure if Uchi validates or not (we didn't ask). If you want free parking, we recommend street parking in the neighborhood on the other side of the 74 bridge and walking. We cannot wait to become regulars and come back again soon!!! So happy Uchi opened in Charlotte! They had me at fresh fish from Japan! The tuna sushi rolls and nigiri...FANTASTIC! Drinks were so good, get the Lychee martini, you won't regret it. Also tried the walu walu and hot rock, great choices. And lastly, that warm banana cake was FIRE. So ready to go back there already. Great new addition to the Charlotte food scene.

For a new restaurant, they moved like a well oiled machine, from front of house, to somakase, to cocktails to the food and service. I loved they had free valet parking. The somakase was a unique experience where you curate your dining experience with your chef. I would highly recommend doing this if offered.

Oh boy ! This restaurant might just be my new favorite ! I was overly hyped about attending today & we were beyond impressed ! Everything from the food, drinks , ambiance , & service ! My friend stated their desserts was the best ever out of the countries /states visited ! So impressed we asked to speak to the pasty chef . I can honestly say this one lived up to all the hype I have been hearing , book now!!!!

Honestly the nigiri was a little petite compared to most high end sushi places I've been to, but overall def a 5 star experience. I'm glad for the addition of another quality restaurant here in Charlotte.

It's it's been quite a while since I felt the need or desire to write a review for a restaurant. However, I had the opportunity to visit Uchi in Plaza Midwood over the weekend and it was nothing short of amazing! Uchi opened March 31. Usually in the first few weeks restaurants have a bit of a growing pain trying to figure things out, so it's not always the best experience if you visit too soon after they open. This was not the case for Uchi. Service 9.2/10 The service was very good. However, if you are seated at the sushi bar, it's a very unique ordering experience. The actual sushi chefs, who are making sushi for the entire restaurant, are also the people who are taking your order for your food. This was a little confusing because there were a long period of time where nobody said anything and you were kind of trying to figure out what was going to happen, but when the sushi chefs engaged, they were super nice and willing to answer any questions. Food When sitting at the sushi bar, there is an option to let the sushi chef choose your courses for you once you tell him what your preferences are. What I told mine was that I do not like fishy fish nor do I like roe, although I do like caviar. He picked the perfect courses for me and there was not a bad course in the bunch. Hamachi sushi roll - was good not exceptional just a standard sushi roll, but very fresh, served with soy sauce. 7.5/10 Uchi salad - The vegetables are all rolled like a hand roll with the dressing and chili crisp in the base of the bowl. It was a unique presentation for a very toothsome salad with great flavors 8/10 Hama Chili - Yellowtail, ponzu, orange, Thai chili was a PERFECTLY balanced bite!! It was light, bright and delicious. I will order this every single time I visit. 9.5/10 Karage Chicken - i've had a lot of karage chicken over the years, but this was one of the top ones. The sauce was perfectly balanced. The thighs had a great crunch on the outside, but was still juicy on the inside complimented with a tasty sauce. 8/10 Hot Rock - Thin strips of Wagyu steak that you cook, at the table, on a hot stone. It is served with whiskey maple ponzu and tamari butter. It sounds simple, but this was pure heaven! It is such a perfect balance of flavors. I definitely preferred the butter over the ponzu, but there is nothing I would change about this dish at all. It's definitely worth having again and again. 9.8/10 Fried Milk Sundae - I don't even know how to explain this dish besides saying it was a whole party in my mouth... maybe even a rave .... or a mosh pit... I don't know, but it was DELECTABLE. There are these little fried balls filled with some sort of, served with ice cream, chocolate mousse, a brownie crisp, corn flakes, and more. They tell you to try to get a little of everything in your mouth at once, which sounds ridiculous, but when you do, it is an explosion of flavors and textures, and unlike anything I've ever experienced before! hands-down one of the best desserts I've had in at least five years. - 10/10 Price - I spent a little over $100 for this meal, but I'd definitely do it again!! 9/10 I definitely recommend this restaurant with no hesitation! ***************** Constructive Feedback - the only feedback I have I also shared with the maître D. The sushi bar most of the bar is mostly glass, so guests can see the chefs working, but there are sections of wood that you cannot see through or over. Do not place a single party in front of one of the wooden panels because not only can they not see, they don't have anybody to talk to to distract them and they're back is to the dining room (so they can't even people watch). So for a better experience at least make sure single parties can see what's happening at the sushi bar while they are eating, but that is a small detail. ***************************

This review is for Uchi, not Uchibā. It IS that good. Everything I had was good. You have to get the Uchi salad here. I know, a salad? Just trust me. This was the high light of the meal for me and I came in for sushi not salad, dafurk. The edamame is the best edamame I've ever had and I mean it's edamame how good could it be? They grilled theirs, which I've never had before and the grilled flavor of it was divine. The zero shen? Simple but divine. The hamachi with the ponzu and chili? It's been so played out but it's good here. The cocktails were perfect. Trendy asl but the food IS that good. Gorgeous environment and the staff was nice.

Amazing new restaurant! I've been looking for a new sushi restaurant and this was by far one my favorites! The atmosphere was very nice, all of the food was super fresh, and the service was very good. Everyone had exceptional knowledge of everything and made ordering a lot easier. Definitely a great date night spot!

Crispy chicken - it was soooo good!

Now... if you have not visited this spot that is ok... however, ADD IT TO YOUR LIST!!! Uchi is positioned in a dope warehouse area in Charlotte and walking into the spot makes you feel like you are no longer in Charlotte. I do not know what it is, but the vibe is just different but in all the right ways!!! The food... there was not one dish that we both did not close our eyes and say "WOW". The staff... attentive and just overall perfection. Everyone was there to help and just so knowledgeable! Love love love!! We almost went back the next day! But instead, I think we will go back next weekend!

Unfortunately, the experience fell short in several areas. Given the location, you'd expect the service to be A1. Instead, I was highly disappointed. Our server was friendly enough and did share the popular items, which I appreciated, but the follow-through from the kitchen didn't match the expectations that were set. I went with the recommended Panther Roll, and it was not at all what I expected -- it came out half-baked and lacking in both flavor and presentation. The crab Rangoons were even more concerning; they were fried in what tasted like old oil, leaving a heavy greasy aftertaste. The batter itself didn't seem right, and overall they were difficult to enjoy. I've worked in the hospitality industry for seven years and recently started writing reviews to offer honest feedback that can help restaurants improve. I genuinely dislike writing negative reviews, but this visit left me no choice. Konnichiwa has the potential to be a hit with a more engaged, enthusiastic staff, consistently hot food, and some attention to kitchen maintenance -- especially the fryer and oil. I hope this feedback is helpful, and I truly believe with a few adjustments, the experience could be much better.

Not the restaurants fault, we didn't read the menu close enough. That said, the food absolutely delivers, and we'd still come back.

The octopus honestly wasn't fully my type flavor-wise because of the seasoning, but it was cooked extremely well -- probably the most tender octopus I've ever had. The cocktails were also very good and definitely strong in a good way. Overall, a really good experience, and I'd come back again.

Great location in south end near the light rail. We had a reservation for 6:30 and were seated promptly. The restaurant is gorgeous! I was in amazement walking to my seat. The host was about to sit us at a table, but we requested a booth and were accommodated. Our server was very nice and thoroughly explained the menu. We started off with the empanadas and I ordered my first virgin "pinny yolada" :). The empanadas were mind blowing! They were nice and hot, flavorful, and absolutely a delight! We were so impressed, we decided to order the double fried wings afterwards. The wings were good and had an interested flavor with the tamarind. After the wonderful appetizers, it was time for the entrees. I ordered the short rib yuca gnocchi and my friend the arroz con pollo. On paper the gnocchi sounded sublime, but in actuality it was lacking a lot. The entire dish lacked so much flavor, even with hot sauce, additional salt, and lime it tasted bland. I was very disappointed. The empanadas and service were a saving grace, I ordered two orders of empanadas to go for my family. However they were so expensive. I paid $14 for 3. Even though I loved the empanadas, I probably would not be back.

The host greeted us and was super nice, she did mention the kitchen closes at 10:50 but that we were more than welcome to come inside just that we should order soon. I really appreciated that!! Our server was nice and attentive and I made sure to order quickly. I was starving anyway so this was all perfect, honestly lol. I tried the sora roll which is: spicy yellowtail and cucumber, topped with yellowtail and avocado, crispy shallots, masago, spring onions, and yuzu miso reduction. THIS WAS FANTASTIC!!!!!!!! I probably could've eaten two. I will 100% be back very soon to have this again lol. I also tried their brussel sprouts and really loved those too! They were cooked and flavored perfectly. I also really love the ambiance of this place. It was perfectly dime lit and it just looks soooooooo nice inside. The decor, the bar, everything was super nice. This is a great date night spot for sure!!!!

The only access problem was the parking as the parking lane is very narrow. I don't know if there's additional parking for Yama but I drive a truck so I had to back out of the parking entrance. Just drove around the corner onto a Main Street, not South Blvd, n viola there was street parking on the side, no signs for time limits. All good. It was for a late lunch with visiting friends. Atmosphere for this meetup made us stay later than we should have bc I think we stayed til around 4:30pm? Lunch service finished maybe around 2:30-2:45? Felt badly for the person at the reception but he said it was no problem. I hv bn to Yama in Waverly a couple of times n now Yama Loso. Both serve a modern twist to Asian dishes. I love traditional Japanese meals but I also enjoy twists in recipes once in a while. Spicy edamame for starters. Looked great but I can't eat spice at the moment so I can't rate it tho my friends did eat it all up. Ate the sushi rice bowl but w/o the spicy aioli sauce n asked for something else which was on the sweet side. Comforting meal, not overwhelming, just right. Edamame, cucumbers, yellow pickled daikon, tuna, salmon, avocado. A simple lunch was all I needed. Then, the hamachi neck part came grilled, not on the menu but if they hv it they'll serve it tender n juicy. Only reason I left a star out was bc of the parking. Other than that, I'd probably go there again if I'm on that side of Charlotte but for me Waverly is closest.

As someone who recently…read moremoved here from the San Francisco Bay Area--where great Asian food is everywhere--I'm always searching for places that really deliver on flavor and authenticity. This place absolutely hits the mark. The food is beautifully presented, the portions are generous, and the flavors are bold and balanced. One of my favorite dishes here is the larb, which is bright, fresh, and perfectly spicy. I also regularly order the red curry and green curry, both of which are rich, aromatic, and incredibly satisfying. The pork dishes are especially succulent, and the tom kha coconut soup is another standout. I've eaten both inside the restaurant and ordered takeout many times, and the experience has been consistently great. Service is quick and friendly, and there's a full bar with cocktails, Thai iced tea, Thai iced coffee, and even good mocktail options if you're skipping alcohol. Parking is fairly easy for the area--there's street parking as well as a garage right behind the restaurant. Insider tip: This is a great place to bring a group so you can share a few dishes and try multiple curries. Whenever friends or colleagues visit Charlotte, this is one of the places I bring them--and it never disappoints. It's definitely one of the better Thai options I've found so far while exploring the city.
