We came here for my birthday. The atmosphere is nice, but I didn't like how they made you wait until all folks eating with you arrive before letting you sit at your table. There were only 4 of us. They have 4 VERY low chairs at the front to wait. It was a Monday and there were only about 5 tables of people ... the rest of the restaurant was empty. So it was ridiculous to ask us to wait in the uncomfortable low chairs. I grabbed one of the chairs from the empty tables and used it to wait. When all arrived, we sat at a table near a window for the view. Our waiter took our order.... and then we waited, and waited, and waited. Omgosh it took so long for our food to come out. Everyone at our table commented they probably only had one cook. Finally when the food arrived, it really was good. I got the pineapple glazed salmon ($46) with coconut rice ($10). The salmon was thick and very good. Coconut rice was made from coconut milk and also very good. 2 ladies got sushi and said it was good. For my birthday, the waiter brought out a small treat. TLDR: Nice ambience, but service could use some significant improvement, especially when implementing mandatory 20% gratuity on all checks. Overall, this place hypes itself up like their designer (check the guest guidelines on their website), but it's really just a Temu knockoff with a nice view. Visiting from out of town, my husband and I came in around 9pm on a Friday evening for some late night bites and cocktails for our date night. I have an unwavering affliction for cute rooftop spots and the menu looked phenomenal, so it seemed like the perfect spot for an elevated night out. We were warmly greeted upon entering by the hostess who recommended the rooftop patio, which was being handled by their amazing server Sebastian, so we took her up on the rec. We found a cozy spot with a great view and waited... After waiting for some time, Brook finally came by our table, took a card to preauthorize, and asked if we wanted menus. My husband and I both ordered the samurai smoked old fashioned. Brook did give us a heads up that it contained sake and would be a variation of a traditional old fashioned, which we appreciated. It was ok.. a light version of the original, but probably not something we would order again. As we were waiting for our food, Sebastian stopped by, said he was splitting the area with Brook, and told us that if we needed anything at all, to not hesitate to ask. For food, we ordered a Renge roll, seared scallops (2 pc), Wagyu carpaccio (3pc) and 6 chilled oysters. Everything was good, but nothing really stood out and sounded much better on paper than it actually tasted. Again, it was good, but considering the price and the way the restaurant hypes itself up, I was expecting to be blown away. Unfortunately, it was very underwhelming. The oysters were probably the best, but their flavor was inconsistent, almost like someone just threw on the accompaniments without making sure they were even placed. The carpaccio was cut way thicker than what you would expect, and just made the dish seem heavy and like the flavors were competing with each other. The scallops were cooked well, but lacked any significant flavor. Towards the end of the meal, we ordered another round of drinks, an espresso martini and traditional old fashioned. By the time we finished, Brook came and asked if we were interested in dessert. I was on the fence, so she said she would just bring the dessert menu anyways, and I also asked for the cocktail menu again. We planned on ordering one final round of drinks, but Brook never came back after she dropped off the menus. By this time, it was around 10:30. The place was far from crowded.. there were numerous staff members hanging out on the patio and gathered at the end of the bar chatting, so it's not like she was as busy attending other tables. After about 20 minutes, we just decided to try and get our check. Since Brook never ever came back, we flagged down Sebastian and asked for it. Unfortunately, he proceeded to have about a 15 min convo with the two ladies at the table behind us before we decided to go inside and see if we could track down our check. There wasn't anyone at the host stand and the restaurant inside was a ghost town, except for the bar, so we asked the bartender for it. As we were waiting, we saw Brook at the other end of the bar chatting with another employee. Once she saw us, she went back out to the table and proceeded to start clearing it off, like it was no big deal that she ignored us for the last 45 min and never brought our check. I mean, they preauthorize the card in beginning and then charge 20% gratuity, so what's the point? At the end of the day, we spent just under $250 for two people to have 4 drinks and 4 apps, which is pricey, but not something I would complain about if the service wasn't laughable. read more

The staff were attentive, and the food was good. Unfortunately, one issue overshadowed the entire visit. A few minutes after my friend and I (walk-ins) ordered on the patio, I was asked to insert my card for a $50 pre-authorization. I've dined at many upscale restaurants and have never been asked to pre-authorize my card after ordering at a sit-down table. When the charge posted instead of simply dropping off, I called the manager. She apologized, confirmed it would be returned to my card (it was), and told me this was standard policy for all guests due to walkouts. However, I couldn't find any mention of this policy on their website or in the restaurant. A few days later, I called as a customer to ask about their payment policies. I was told that neither walk-ins nor reservations are required to pre-authorize a card, except for certain pre-booked experiences. When I explained what had happened, the employee was surprised, apologized, and said they had never heard of that happening. I have no issue with restaurants using pre-authorizations--as long as the policy is clearly disclosed and applied consistently. For example, VINYL in Charlotte explicitly tells guests that everyone is subject to a pre-authorization, so there are no surprises. Based on my experience, this policy was neither transparent nor consistently applied, and the conflicting explanations left me questioning why I was asked to pre-authorize my card when other guests were not. Because of that, I'll choose to spend my money elsewhere. Why was I asked to whip out my card & pre-authorize a $50 charge immediately after ordering when it's not standard policy and other guests weren't asked to do the same? How do you pick and choose which guests to pre authorize? What are you basing it on? read more

I'm extremely disappointed with our experience at Hestia. We had made Easter brunch reservations over a week in advance and even paid a deposit for each person, so we were really looking forward to it. We showed up right on time at 12 PM on Easter Sunday, only to find the restaurant completely closed. After standing there confused, we checked our email and saw that a cancellation notice had been sent 48 hours before. Unfortunately, we didn't see it in time--but canceling something like a holiday reservation with such short notice is unacceptable, especially when deposits are involved. Because of this, our entire Easter plan was ruined and we were left scrambling last-minute with no options. A restaurant of this caliber should handle reservations--and especially holiday events--with far more care and professionalism. Overall, this was a frustrating and disappointing experience, and I would be very hesitant to rely on them for any special occasion in the future. read more

Unacceptable service and zero accountability. We had paid a $200 deposit for the Tamahawk experience and an extra 200 for the Tomahawk so a total of spent of $400. The bill came out to almost $1000 on extra food and drinks Fortunately we had got full and didn't finish our Tomahawk before the server took the plate. We explicity saw how much meat and food was left over. When we got home and opened the containers. we realized we were heavily shorted. They clearly sliced up the remaining meat to make it look full, but massive portion, including the bone, packed with meat was completely missing. We immediately drove all the way back to the restaurant. The Manager on duty refused to fix the issue or offer a refund claiming only the regional Manager could handle it has now been four days every time I call I get the exact same runaround line that someone will call me back. They have no intentions of resolving this do not spend your hard earned money here they will literally steal your leftovers and ignore you afterwards highly unsatisfied and do not recommend this place. read more

The food was genuinely very good. We really enjoyed the sushi and the tuna in particular. The Wagyu was decent, but it definitely was not authentic Japanese Wagyu, so it did not really stand out or feel especially memorable. Still, overall the food itself was enjoyable, and the view from the restaurant was absolutely beautiful. Unfortunately, the service left a very disappointing impression. Since gratuity is automatically included in the bill, it honestly felt like there was very little interest in treating guests with care or attention. The overall atmosphere from the staff made us feel less like welcomed guests and more like people they wanted to serve as quickly as possible and move out. It was my girlfriend's birthday, and I politely asked our server if it would be possible to move us to another table if one became available. I completely understand that on a busy Saturday evening nothing can be guaranteed, and I was never asking anyone to be rushed out or removed from their table. However, there were several opportunities where it realistically could have happened. The first couple of times, the available tables were assigned to other servers, and it seemed like our waiter simply did not want to transfer us because another server would then take over the table. Later on, he told us twice that he would try to move us, but nothing ever happened. At that point in the evening there were no reservations left, only walk-ins, and all it would have taken was a quick conversation with the hostess asking her not to immediately seat the next guests at the newly available table so we could move there instead. I understand many people celebrate birthdays, and I know restaurants get busy, especially on weekends. But considering we made a reservation and politely asked in advance, it really felt like no effort was made at all. This was a great Friday night double date spot! Located in the swank AC Hotel in the posh Ballantyne neighborhood, Hestia is a rooftop Asian fusion restaurant with some excellent skyline views. It's a hip spot with a big city vibe, but it is definitely a little pricey. In addition to traditional Japanese dishes like nigiri and sashimi they have some delicious steaks and some great option for appetizers. In particular I enjoyed the short rib potstickers and the wagyu meatballs. For my main I got the chimichurri steak which was a generous hunk of meat cooked and seasoned well. My girlfriend got the filet which she enjoyed a whole lot. The service was great, overall this was a wonderful spot for a night out, and I would love to come back for more special occasions in the future. Visited on Friday Feb 13th and had a fabulous time! Had reservations for two at 7:30pm and it was already buzzing with excitement. We were immediately sat and immediately taken our drink orders. Our waitress was super friendly and efficient. They offered lemon, lime, and orange slices for your water which I thought was a GREAT touch as im a lover of lemon in my water. Husband and I decided on their "Love of sea" Valentines dinner. Consisted of two lobster tails and a 20oz Tomahawk steak with broccolini, coconut curry rice and fingerling potatoes. It was very delicious! The steak was cooked medium and perfection. The lobster tails were very tasty and there was not a thing wrong with the meal. Everything has cooked perfectly and was very flavorful. We will definitely come back and try other things on their menu. It is a little pricey but I feel like its worth it. The drinks were delicious as well. Tried a Valentines rose infused drink, it was not my favorite as rose isnt a preferred taste of mine in a drink but other than that, no other complaints! This place was interesting but not a place I'd return. The decor is nice, but it feels like it's trying to be a sushi bar in California and missing some of that southern charm and warmth. With the exception of a brief interaction with the sushi chef, the service was lackluster. From the hostess to our waitress, the service was absolutely blasé--no smiles and a lot of RBF. Additionally, our server kept forgetting our order because she wasn't writing it down and repeatedly returned to the table to ask what we ordered. If you've gotten this far into the review and still want to come here, I would recommend the drinks and a small plates only. We got the Komachi Hamachi, Wagyu Meatballs and they were really good. For drinks we had the pear and lychee martinis which were also solid. Unfortunately we also ordered several of the rolls, including a limited time special but none of them really measured up and definitely aren't worth mentioning. Fair enough but as we waited for people to get through parking lot maze they threatened to give our table away at every turn. I felt very reprimanded and the directional signage from the deck to the restaurant was less than clear. Then they only allow a 4 way split of checks, which is just annoying. It is hard to believe that in this world of AI they can't get a POS system that can accommodate large groups. Now the food was spectacular! The quality of the constructed booths and nicely lit tables shows careful planning. The staff here were all helpful and very courteous. The bar area is just as nice as the booths and tables.
