Aside from that, the Korean Fried Chicken was true to form, crunchy and delicious! We ordered a side of regular fries and they were ok. You get a choice of white rice, coleslaw, or pickled radish. I've always talked about how I wanted to try Korean Fried Chicken and I was at an appointment that way, so my husband brought me here for a date night. It's a beautiful place and we were seated by the waiter. We tried the chicken and it's the best chicken I've ever had in a while. It was crispy and thought I don't like legs, this made me want more! I heard of Kimchi, but didn't think I would want to try it, but it was different and not bad at all. The waiter suggested we try the rice with a protein in it and it was very filling. I've been coming to this restaurant for quite some time, and it's usually one of my go-to spots when I'm in the area. The food is typically fresh and flavorful, the service is consistent, and pickup orders are ready on time. But my most recent visit really shook my confidence in that reliability. I placed my order as usual and received a confirmation followed by a message with the pickup time. I knew I'd be a little late, so I figured my food would be ready and waiting by the time I arrived. Instead, I was told by the host--a young man I hadn't seen before--that the kitchen was running behind and it would be out shortly. While waiting, I ordered a cold drink, assuming my food would be ready by the time it was made. It wasn't. I checked again. He looked at the screen, walked to the back, and said the same thing, "very soon." I waited. And waited. I watched as delivery drivers and other customers came and went with their orders, while mine still hadn't surfaced. Eventually, another staff member noticed how long I'd been waiting and asked for my receipt. That's when they realized my order had never even been entered into the kitchen. It had been received but never submitted. So after nearly an hour in the restaurant, they were just beginning to cook my food. The same host again said, "It should be ready in a few minutes," but by then, that reassurance didn't mean much. When I finally received the food, 55 minutes after I arrived, it was still wrong. We ordered potstickers with soy garlic sauce. They arrived completely dry, without a drop of sauce. And there were no utensils included, even though we had requested them. So not only was the order late, it was also incorrect and missing key items. What disappointed me most was that no one made any effort to make things right, not a free drink, not a discount, not even a sincere apology. The restaurant wasn't busy, so it's hard to excuse the lack of attention or care. I've had enough good experiences here in the past to not write it off completely, but this visit made me question whether that past consistency is still something they stand for. read more

Well, all I can say is that these tacos did the trick for me. 2 large-sized, soft tacos with an abundance of spicy chicken, sauces and lettuce. Yummy! I would have liked it even more is if they added another veggie or so (maybe even Kimchi?). In any case, this 2-taco plate was priced right under 10 bucks...so only about 5 bucks each? Made for a super-cheap lunch! Service was always kinda iffy at this location. I can't say much about the waitress (she was a bit awkward...not communicative at all?), but the manager (I think?) was nice enough to come by to check on things. Chicken is very unique- I normally don't like fried chicken but this was definitely something else lightly fried whole size actual drumsticks loved it. The bimbamp was good. The Japchae was good. The mozzarella stick forgot what it was called was good (had cinnamon on it reminded me of Cinnamon Toast Crunch which I love). Only thing I wasn't a fan of was the ranch sauce. This place has the best wings in Charlotte by a huge margin. They're not buffalo wings, they're Korean wings. They are massive and are so crispy that you can hear an audible "crunch" with each bite, yet, they are sauced and the meat is tender and flavorful. The 2 original flavors are soy garlic and hot which are both great, but they have added several more flavors including Korean BBQ and Yangnyeom (which is a sweet, savory, and garlicky). I simply can't choose a favorite--they're all so good. The Korean BBQ is quite sweet and sticky--Asian meat candy--which is irresistible. The wings are so large that 5 of them comprise a generous portion and an order of 10 is a massive feast. (They heat up nicely, retaining their crispiness, in the air fryer.) The wings are served with a side of sweet crunchy daikon chunks which is the perfect accompaniment though you can opt for cole slaw. Daikon is the way to go in my opinion. The fries are impeccable as well--coated fries that are crisp and fresh and without a bit of greasiness. We especially love the bulgogi fried rice as a side. The chicken strips are large cutlets and also crispy and impressive. Lastly, this location is tucked and hidden in the back of the strip shopping center. It's definitely worth finding. We have ordered takeout and general stick to rice and chicken but as family came town we introduced them to Bonchon and ordered a few new items. The chicken sliders were delicious and very spicy. We tried them on two different visits they were so good! The japchea is a glass noodle dish and I was very surprised at how much I liked this dish!!!! Lots of veggies and packs a punch. The wings we had them in soy and hot. I will say this only get the hot if you are INTO spiciness. My family is and I enjoyed them but our table used the words pain and my lips are on fire a few times. I read all the reviews that my Korean Yelpie pal Rose E writes, and I'm still left wondering. Alas, a spicy chicken taco rescued me. We traveled to the Pineville-Matthews area to visit the Bonchon based on Rose's review (I have one nearer my home, but why chance it?). We ordered both the trio of Spicy Chicken Tacos and a plate of Beef Bulgogi. Easy. While both dishes were prepared well, the chicken spicy taco cracked it out of the park. Hot and spicy chicken perched atop a crisp bed of cold lettuce, cabbage, red onion, and mayo wrapped snugly in a warm, soft shell. Mmmmm. My kinda taco. The bulgogi, while delicious and hot, was too sweet for my liking (although I've learned that sugar is a key ingredient in the marinade). Not for me. Overall, the food was good (the tacos excellent) and the menu worthy of exploration. Our server, while attentive, was unable apparently of multi-tasking, handling only one table at a time. It was difficult to gain her attention unless it was your turn. Awkward. In the mood for Korean food? Follow Rose E's lead and "give 'em a whirl." The boneless wings did have crunch but were a little chewy in my opinion. I loved the flavor on the soy. I usually like hot wings, but the hot wings were too spicy for me. My mouth was on fire. Finally made it to Bonchon instead of just talking about going forever. I was seriously craving some takoyaki and they had it here so I convinced a bunch of friends to join me. I was not disappointed. The takoyaki wasn't bad - it certainly hit the spot as hoped. It was not, however, the best I've ever had. But no place here can really compare to the real deal. That alone wasn't going to hold me over so I split an order of gyoza with the table. They were fried crispy. They have a veggie and a meat option. I was on the fence between bibimbap and the salmon ball. A friend pushed me in the right direction and the salmon ball was practically to die for! Will go down as one of the best dishes you (read: I) can find at any restaurant in Charlotte. They have Japanese beers and sake to wet your palate. A friend got the tteokbokki - it was incredibly spicy, just as I remembered it. We were a group of five and got together here on a Saturday night. I was able to make a reservation same-day but it ended up not being especially crowded at this location. Even a friend mentioned the Woodlawn one is noticeably better. The pork was tender, the vegetables had crunch and great flavor, and the sauce was outstanding! The wings were plump & juicy with a crispy crust. The garlic soy sauce was flavorful and not too salty (as some soy-based sauces can be). The spicy sauce was a bit much for me, but my son was thrilled with my leftovers. I was excited to try Bonchon but it was a disappointment. I ordered some sort of bowl (can't recall the name) with rice, veggies and spicy chicken and it was not good. The chicken tasted like fish and was very tough. This tells me they store the raw chicken right next to the raw fish because the chicken had absorbed the fish taste. The service was not good, either. We had to flag someone down to take our order because they seemed to forget about us. The server didn't check on us when we were eating our food for a long time. I won't go back to this place. The breading on the chicken (I got the 15 pieces half/half spicy and soy garlic) was not crunchy like many of the korean friend chicken I've had, but it was lumped together and fell off in big pieces. The flavors were good, but the frying technique was disappointing. I've had bonchon from other franchise locations, and I don't remember the chickens being covered in the fried batter.
