Loved this place. The ambience was nice, nice music in the background, great service and great food. We did the osusume which was a tour of the menu. They brought out 7 courses of small plates and everything was delicious. Just the right portions for tasting but you definitely get full. Or waiter Cameron made sure we enjoyed everything, he even noticed we didn't like the dessert so he switched without us having to ask. We recently celebrated my husband David's birthday at Mizu in Charlotte, and it was an incredible experience from start to finish. One of the most thoughtful touches was arriving to find personalized menus printed with his name and a birthday message. It was such a small detail, but it made the evening feel truly special and set the tone for a memorable celebration. We chose the Curated Family Style Tour of Mizu for Two, and every course was beautifully prepared. The seared tuna was easily our favorite dish of the evening--absolutely outstanding and something we'll be talking about for a long time. The ambiance was perfect. Between the music, the energy of the restaurant, and the spectacular views, Mizu created an atmosphere that made the evening feel both elegant and welcoming. We absolutely plan to return. The only suggestion we would make is to consider adding a sweet Riesling bottle option to the wine selection, as it would be a wonderful complement to the dining experience. I came to this restaurant with high hopes. A friend and her husband had a great experience on a previous visit and thought it would be right up my alley. We came on a Saturday evening and arrived just in time to catch the sunset before starting our meal, which felt like the perfect start to the night. We ordered our first round of drinks, and the ladies at the table opted for the Osusume while the gentlemen ordered directly from the menu (there were four of us total). The drinks took a little while to arrive, but nothing that raised any red flags yet. Service started to feel off once the food began coming out. One of the guys received his appetizer, entrée, and side of rice almost immediately--basically all at once--while the other received his entrée well before his appetizer. As for the Osusume, it started strong with the first three dishes coming out fairly quickly. Unfortunately, that momentum stopped completely. We then waited 45 minutes to an hour before the next dish appeared. Our server did acknowledge the delays, which we appreciated, but that was about the extent of it. At one point he stopped checking in altogether, likely because he had no updates for us. What was frustrating was that we never even had the opportunity to order another round of drinks while we waited. After a couple of hours, one person in our group had to leave. Meanwhile, my friend and I were still waiting on at least three more courses from the Osusume (we were told it would be 6-9 courses). My friend's husband eventually went to the host stand to ask for a manager. When the manager arrived, we were given conflicting explanations as to why our food still hadn't come out. By this point it had been over three hours, and we still had three courses left to receive. Another friend left because the wait had become so unreasonable. Unfortunately, the manager didn't offer anything to help make up for the experience--no drinks while we waited, no gesture for the delay, nothing beyond explanations that didn't quite line up. Walking past the kitchen, things appeared chaotic and disorganized. It honestly seemed like our order may have gotten lost in the shuffle more than anything else. Tables that were seated well after us were able to order, eat, and leave. At one point a group of about ten celebrating a birthday came in after us, enjoyed their entire meal, cut a cake, and left while we were still waiting. Even small touches fell through the cracks. We never received the lemon or water enhancements that were being brought to other tables, and getting a simple water refill often took 30+ minutes. Going that long without any drink--water included--is tough for a restaurant of this caliber. Eventually, because it had gotten so late, we asked to have the remaining courses packaged to go. Unfortunately, that experience wasn't much better. The food was poorly packaged and didn't seem intended to be shared between two people, which made it difficult to properly enjoy what should have been the remaining courses of the Osusume experience. In the end, we were offered a series of explanations but not much in the way of service recovery. We were patient throughout the entire experience and didn't make a scene, but the lack of communication and basic hospitality made the evening feel like a missed opportunity. Unfortunately, I can't recommend this place. Lack of service is one thing, but when concerns are raised to a manager and they seem to be brushed off, it makes the experience even more disappointing. I could maybe forgive slow service if it were a one-off situation, but the lack of ownership or effort to make things right makes it hard to suggest this spot to others. Tried Mizu for the first time with my family of 3 yesterday, we ordered a variety of items off the menu to get the full experience. Edamame and Southpark Shrimp App, Katsu Udon Entree, Salmon, Sea Bass, Chicken yakitori from the Robata, Cowboy Roll, Scallop Hand Roll Sushi, and the Chestnut Cheesecake and Lychee Sorbet Dessert. My wife really enjoyed the Edamame, it had a nice flavor with the seasoning on top, but the Shrimp Tempura was very avg, with a thick tempura batter and not much flavor, even after dipping in the aoli that sat under the shrimp, Katsu Udon was soggy and not crispy as the server poured the broth all over the Katsu and the broth was not very flavorful. My wife's favorite thing was the Salmon which was cooked pretty well and had a corn puree on the bottom the other 2 robata items (sea bass and chicken) were both quite mediocre with little flavor. Cowboy Roll was a bit surprising as it had bbq sauce on it but wasn't too bad, The scallop hand roll was my favorite thing, it was torched on top and had a nice creamy dressing on it as well as some jalapenos. Both desserts were good, both not too sweet and suiting my families palette, overall it was about $270 after tip. Due to the restaurants location they probably get a lot of guests of the hotel and business meals to keep them in business but the food overall was not up to par for that price point. My family eats out quite often and compared to many other places we've been to with similar price points this place is not IT. We most likely will not be going back, but it was a nice experience to try. read more

An amazing experience indeed. Lovely interior with a most gracious hostess who showed me around. I settled for a seating at the bar. Bartender suggested a kikiso jumai sake to go with my torched scallop and tiger sushi (lemon crab, hamachi, avocado, cucumber). The portions were much smaller than I expected but the flavor explosion made up for the smaller portion size. I would have loved to have more of the scallop and tiger sushi. Service was excellent. I received a gift card for here and I'm so glad that I did because it was a pleasant experience. This restaurant is on the rooftop of a hotel and the ambiance is nice. I liked the layout and the good music in the background. We tried the Osusume and really enjoyed it. The waiter was very accommodating too. The drinks were good too. It was too hot to sit outside but next time I will likely go later in the evening when it cools down so I can enjoy the patio. read more

Mizu is conveniently located at the top of the of the Hyatt Hotel. Upon arrival, I was escorted to a table outdoors and I immediately noticed the beautiful view. To get things started, I settled on the Elderflower French 75, it was equal parts sweet and boozy. For my meal, I had the crab fried rice and a yellowtail hand roll. The rice was okay, but it was dry and lacked flavor in my opinion. I think I would've been satisfied if there were more scallions and spices in it. The handroll was a stand out for me, and I truly enjoyed that the recipe was very different and the texture was very different! It's been a lil minute since I've been back to Mizu, but it's still one of my fav Charlotte spots. My fiance and I came on a special date night! It was truly a perfect night, we had a reservation for 7pm or so and the sun was setting so we were seated outside on their beautiful patio area!!! My my my, this was just so scenic and beautiful. The weather was perfect and so was my company. We're big foodies so we opted for their Osusume, which is a curated family style tour of the entire dinner menu. It's $70 per person and $5 from each meal is donated to the Boys & Girls club. Amazing. We had a time!!! There was soooooooo much food! I can't even sit here and tell you everything we had, but I HIGHLY recommend trying this. You will get so much food and get to try so much from their menu. It was exceptional!!! I didnt get any food on my visit, but I had some late night drinks on the rooftop around 10pm, as they closed at 11pm The service was friendly and efficient. The restaurant is stunning. They have some non alcoholic drinks on the menu, a nice whiskey list and plenty of wines. The lobster fried rice was super yummy but I wish there would have been a tad more lobster in it for the price. They Yaki-Tori was chicken thighs on two skewers which was really flavorful. TLDR: Great date night spot with amazing service. My boyfriend and I came on a Friday evening without a reservation and we were able to grab a high-top table in front of the kitchen with no wait. We ordered a bit of everything, and every dish was delicious, but the highlights for us were the desserts, Brussels sprouts, and grilled fish. I honestly think you can't go wrong with anything on their menu, but what really set Mizu apart was the staff's hospitality. The chefs at the counter checked in on us throughout the night and even surprised us with complimentary nigiri. Later, when we couldn't decide between two desserts, the staff brought out both and only charged us for one (a foodie's dream). To top it off, they gifted us a grilled fish entrée (!!) which ended up being the best dish of the night. We were already really full when the fish came, but we managed to finish every bite because it was SO good. Overall, we give Mizu a solid 5/5. My first time here and it is such a pretty restaurant overlooking South Park on the 9th Floor. Parking is validated for the restaurant if you park at the hotel. There is also a valet. If you park at the garage near Calle Sol, parking is free the first 3 hours. The restaurant has comfy booths and features a pretty outdoor patio. We came here for my birthday. Our waitress made it extra special by gifting us all a glass of champagne and some items. We ordered the crab fried rice appetizer. It didn't have alot of flavor, but was fine. You could see the small pieces of crab. Next we had the brussel sprouts and pork belly bao buns. The brussel sprouts could have been cooked a bit longer as they were still fairly chewy, but they had good flavor I especially liked the pickled ginger on them. I liked the softness of their buns and the carrot and cilantro were nice with the pork. I got the Lemon Drop sushi roll as my entree. I loved it ! Nice portion size, tasted fresh, and had great flavor. There was a lemon aoli on top that set it off. A friend got the orange duck and enjoyed it. We were served grilled pineapple which was quite good. For dessert, we had the peach & caramel cheesecake. It had good flavor and was very light. I loved the area that this restaurant was located in. There is valet parking, free street parking and a parking garage. It is inside of a hotel on floor 9. Beautiful sitting lounge when you enter and then a gorgeous bar and an inside and outside seating area. There is also room at the sushi bar where you can watch the chef's use their special grills from Japan. Service was great and food came out in great timing. I started with a dirty martini. We split the brussel sprouts, sea bass, and chicken yakitori. I love the way they were cooked on the grill. I had salmon belly sashimi and hamachi crudo which was my favorite thing on the menu. The menu is broken into robata grilled items, small and large plates, sushi, and a chilled and raw section. Honestly, I could have ordered everything, but my wallet had other plans. I started with the seared tuna in citrus ponzu. Thin slices of lightly crusted tuna were served in a flavorful sauce that didn't overpower the freshness of the fish. From the robata section, I got the Negi Ma, which came with two skewers of teriyaki-glazed flank steak. There was plenty of meat, and it had a nice char from the grill without being dry. The standout was the Iron Man sushi roll. It had spicy tuna and cucumber inside, then was topped with flank steak, chimichurri, and a drizzle of ponzu. Every bite had heat, acid, and richness. It was bold without being too much. Everything I tried was thoughtfully prepared, and the service was smooth from start to finish. With good weather, city views, and a menu built for sharing, this is a solid choice for a date night or a night out with friends. They were playing the football games at the bar, so we were able to sit in their lounge area to enjoy great cocktails, yummy small plates and better vibes. This place is beautiful inside and our service from the bartender was attentive. They are located on the 9th floor of the Hyatt hotel. The restaurant has a great ambiance and vibe. I had a reservation and was seated quickly. My waiter was very pleasant and knowledgeable. I started with the 9th floor sushi roll. For my entree I opted for the salmon and for dessert their version of a chocolate brownie. I drank water. The sushi was out of this world delicious. The salmon cooked to perfection with bok choy. The dessert was good. Portions not bad. My tab was about $60 with the tip. They have roof top outside seating that is nice. One of the best service I've ever experienced, our waiter was quick to go down the list of menu options with some of his favorites and answered any questions we had. Our drinks came out quick. The Lychee Martini was mouthwatering packed with Lychee flavor, one of my favorite martinis. My husband had the MIZU maple old fashioned, which he enjoyed. He said it was a delightful twist to his old fashioned with the maple flavoring. As for the food, the Ironman sushi roll had a Medium spice level but nothing special to me, about average sushi roll. The Oysters taste a bit too fishy however the toppings and flavors go well together. The Corn ribs were tangy, with a nice crunchy char alongside a touch of lime. I've never had Sea Bass and wow am I glad I tried it. The Sea Bass was buttery, flaky and had a really nice glaze. The Flat Iron steak was cooked to perfection, a very flavorful steak, chimichuri sauce was excellent. For desert we had the Coconut Rice Pudding with passion fruit and mango. It was average, I thought it needed more rice to be a rice pudding. Overall, a must try date night spot or girls night out. read more

My first visit here started off very slow and weird. For starters I sat at the bar area with a friend and wait for almost 15 min without getting a glass of water or asking what would I like to drink. Two other couples came in and sat at the bar and were served drinks before myself. Then when it came to ordering our food they only took her order as I guess maybe they bartender assumed we were eating together. After all of that things got little better once they realized we were together. The attentiveness wasn't at the level I would expect for this restaurant. The food was blah really no flavor at all minus the duck which was great. The decor and presentation of the food is lovely but i expected much more flavor. Made an anniversary reservation tonight. Sat outside for the sunset which was beautiful. We unfortunately were not greeted from our server for almost 30 minutes after we sat down. Drinks and food were good except one roll we received was all avocado unfortunately. Our experience was ruined by our server not coming to greet us until we were already hoping to have drinks & apps by then and entrees on there way. When our apps finally came no one checked on us till we already finished and were way beyond ready to just leave. We felt very ignored and not taken care of. I didn't , however cuz...BRRRR ...t'was a freezing night for me. Ya'll have fun with them there patio photos lol! Service/Food: ugh. So flipping good. I had two (yes two) Lychee Martinis while Hubbers had a Moscow Mule. Both delicious. We ordered several sushi rolls and they were all delicious. I had the Oysters and for the first time in a while they were NOT fishy and were delicately fresh. No crackers, horseradish or anything NEEDED to cover up the fishy taste. They don't offer those side items with the oysters anyway. That's how confident they are in their product!!! Pure joy. My lady brought home their new Happy Hour food menu so we decided to give them a try. There are not a lot of after 10pm options in the Southpark area, a definitely no sushi options, so Mizu could be on to something here. And from our visit last night, I would say they are well on their way to establishing themselves as a new, go to late happy hour spot on weekdays and weekends. First, a couple of things to note. This restaurant is located at the top of the Hyatt, so you will need to park in the adjacent parking garage as they are very few on street parking spots available. When you enter the hotel, you can head to the back of the lobby where you will find a bank of elevators that will take you up to the ninth floor. Immediately upon exiting the elevator, and entering the restaurant, you will see the bar to the right, which is the only place the happy hour menu is offered. The bar has approximately 10 to 12 seats and then a couple of high tables and a living room-like lounge set up. There were two bartenders working last night, and a couple of seats available at the bar, so we sat there. Service was good and attentive. We ordered the shrimp, crunchy roll, the tuna, crunchy roll, the pork belly buns, and the firecracker shrimp. all four dishes were excellent. I would probably rate the firecracker shrimp number one, and then both of the rolls two and three with the buns coming in fourth. The sushi was fresh, sizable in portion, and for less than $10, definitely a value in the Southpark area. The only catch to the happy hour scene, and it's not just Mizu, is the fact that they cannot offer happy hour drink specials to accompany the food specials. Both of our drinks ended up costing several dollars more than any of the individual entrées, which is kind of a bummer when you are specifically targeting something in the happy hour price range. That being said, I definitely think this is going to be a heavily frequented happy hour once word gets out. The restaurant has a great view, although we were unable to enjoy it last night due to the rain and fog. But will definitely be back soon to try out the dinner menu. read more
