This is a popular place, and for good reason. It has an upscale, modern cafeteria style decor that is clean and inviting. My colleagues and I were quickly seated on our visit here for lunch. If there are any problems, I would only say there are too many choices! There are dishes from many different non-Indian Asian countries. a minute ago New DO NOT GIVE YOUR BUSINESS TO OPEN RICE BALLANTYNE!!! THEY ARE THIEVES!!! My family dined at this restaurant on September 16th. We handed our waiter a visa gift card to pay for the meal and he took it to the register with no issue. Returns with the gift card OPENED and outside of its packaging with the numbers exposed and lets us know that "they do not accept vista gift cards". Weird since he acknowledged it and took it with him in the first place but we didn't think much of it being opened since we figured he had to type in the numbers. We even called the gift card company to confirm there were funds after leaving the restaurant and sure enough the funds were there. Weeks later- we attempt to use this card for a purchase and it does not work. Upon looking online at the balance we see several online purchases were made the FOLLOWING day on the 17th not by us. Whoever at the front desk wrote down the card number and made purchases on google and other online websites. We called today to speak to a manager and he was beyond condescending and simply stated "he could not do anything about it" and that he remembers the day the waiter asked about vista gift cards and claimed he checked with the waiter there were no funds on the card but told the waiter to tell our table that "they do not accept visa gift cards so we do not feel bad for their being no funds." Not only are they thieves but they also lie to their customers instead of being upfront to try to cover the fact that they are liars. Do not give this business your money read more

O.M. Goodness! It might be better than this but I don't see how. I had been to the Open Rice @ Metropolitan in Uptown CLT for Dim Sum and it was really very good. I wanted to try this place which is actually much closer to my house and easier to get to rather than negotiate all the construction in Uptown CLT. I studied the reviews and at 4.5 starts with 536 reviews it's a good indication it's better than just good. I wasn't disappointed! I had the Hong Kong Pork Char Siu with a side of fried rice. Each bite was better than the one before. It's served over a bed of bok choy. So well prepared with quality ingredients, fresh and delicious. The portion was huge & I had to get a 'go box'. I had outstanding service from Colleen. She knew the menu well and was able to answer all my questions. She was attentive and continued to check on me from time to time. I especially like their 'team' aspect to service. As other servers come by, they take an empty plate and ask if there is anything else they can get you. I'm so pleased to be able to tell my family and friends about this place and give it an enthusiastic recommendation. Sadly, they don't do Dim Sim like the Metropolitan location but their menu is broad and creative. Nearly EVERY Elite review I read was a five star review, what does that tell you? Open Rice is about 30 minutes from where I live, so I don't order from there very often. The first few times I did, the food was fantastic--easily 5 stars--so I was expecting the same quality this time. Unfortunately, this order was a huge disappointment. The sesame chicken was dry and tasted stale, nothing like what I had received in the past. I ordered two meals, one side dish, and two orders of spring rolls, and the total was over $80. For the amount and quality of food we received, I simply can't understand how the bill was that high. I don't mind paying for good food, especially when I've had great experiences before, but at this price the quality needs to be consistent. We visited for lunch on the weekend. Our server was really helpful and attentive. The decor is modern and the restaurant looked clean. However the concrete floors were sticky, particularly near the back/restroom area. We liked the food okay, but did not like the iced tea at all. Our server, named Chelsea, came to the table and took our orders. She was so pleasant and professional. She didn't make you feel like you were just a number, but she was very engaging, and I appreciated that about her. Went here for dinner with friends. We had a very knowledgeable waitress who answered our questions about the vast menu choices. We ordered the very popular half of roast duck, kingdom chicken ( sweet and sour ) ,a sizzling shrimp dish ( shrimp teppanyaki ) with yum yum sauce and vegetarian spring rolls. Our friends ordered cast iron chicken fried rice skillet, jumbo lump crab meat and shrimp fried rice, fried pot stickers, and sweet and sour chickens. We ordered fried golden buns, SHRIMP AND CHICKEN UDON WITH BLACK PEPPER SAUCE, MISO BUTTER CORN RAMEN, HONG KONG CHAR SIU, a side of fried rice. For the dessert both families ordered the bubble waffle. We think the food were okay. The Hongkong Char siu aka Cantonese pork bbq came out very late and it was cold and need more salt or more flavor, in my opinion. The best flavor food was the cast ironed skillet shrimp fried rice and the bubble waffle with the ice cream and all the cereal toppings. The lack of quality Chinese food in Charlotte has been one of its major drawbacks to a foodie like me. I often have to drive to South Carolina to get something remotely close to what my Big Apple palate is used to. All that has changed now that I have found Open Rice Blakeney. For starters, I like the interior. Didn't sit there, but it looked fun, clean and not too prissy. The cashier was friendly. I ordered the shrimp and pork fried rice and the chicken fried rice (I had some jerk chicken at home and needed to add a carb). Let me tell you, both rice dishes were fantastic. A++. So this is a tough review for me to write. I absolutely loved my beef bulgolgi but my boyfriend's Pho was honestly not very good. It was bland and the beef had a weird texture. Our waitress Esther was super sweet and knowledgeable. She answered all of our questions quickly and was always near by. I would definitely want her as my waitress again. The bill was very pricey for food that we didn't absolutely LOVE. But again I loved my beef bulgolgi and we will be back to try a different dish rather than the Pho. Love Open Rice!!! I've been here several times and they have never disappointed! Nearly every time I visit the Blakeney shopping center I stop here to eat. During this visit I ordered one of their chef specials - can't remember the name. One of the employees compared it to a rotisserie chicken that's lightly fried - giving the skin a nice crunch. It comes with rice and the chicken was on a bed of bok choy. Also, every time I'm here I order a 22 oz thai tea. One of the best I've had in CLT - perfect balance of tea/milk/sweetness. Outside of Korea, this was the best I've had. The kimchi wasn't as spicy as I was expecting but had good flavor. Strawberry boba was a tasty treat to have with my dinner as well. We've made it a tradition to come here every year around Christmas. The past couple years this place has been absolutely amazing, but pricey. This year the food is as lackluster. The pineapple rice was tasteless, the 2X fried noodles were awful unless you poured the sauce on top, but more sauce means more money. Overall with drinks the bill for 4 was $140 which isn't terrible if the food was memorable for the right reasons but his meal wasn't. I promise to provide an update in late 2026. read more

Finally came to Open Rice on a super rainy night. It was really hard to find the location. I think it was the GPS taking us to the wrong side of the biz. It was crazy busy for a rainy Tuesday night. There were a lot of folks waiting to be seated right in the front area near the door. When I walked in there was a couple before me and for some reason 2 different parties walked in after me and skipped me in the line to put my name on the waitlist. Of course I was pissed, but didn't make a fuss. LUCKILY this super sweet hostess named Elizabeth saw it all happened and as soon as I walked up to her she said: "did they just cut you?". I said yea and she so nicely put my name before theirs on the list! Thank you so much for doing that, made all the difference :) I ordered the: ~ beef chow fun: it was soooooooo good, flavorful and was actually a great amount of food even though it didn't look like it.
