This place has been on my radar for a while, but I don't live close (probably a good thing because I would be here everyday). Saturday afternoon, made plans to stop in and check it out (off peak lunch time -2pm-ish). They were moderately busy... for good reason! Had the Black ramen and it was . Gone in 60 seconds but super flavorful and delicious!! We also had the fried shrimp shu mai with dipping sauce... piping hot and delicious!! Our server was super friendly and took care of us. Actually the entire staff really took care of us and you can tell in the food as well. A lot of love, passion, and great ingredients go into all their entire menu. Location wise, this place is definitely a "sleeper" place just because it's tucked back in Stonecrest across from the movie theater. The dining room is cozy but there are booths and tables.... Small outdoor dining area with a handful of tables too. Overall a great place to get great ramen! Just wished it was closer but again, I would be here daily getting ramen. read more

My husband and I had a lovely time here! We ordered a bottle of wine, a few appetizers, and two ramen bowls. We will arrive Friday night at 8 PM and there was a full restaurant, but we seated immediately. My only complaint is that it took a minute for our server to come, but I think it's because they only had a few people working. However, they made it up with how fast our order came out and the amazing quality of it all. Not the only that, but also our server, Kevin, was absolutely amazing. My favorite part? Went on Valentine's Day at 7pm for the first time, we only had to wait for 22 minutes (projected wait time was 30-35)! The space is cute. Spicy Edemamae was really good. Lychee cocktail was delicious, they garnish with an actual lychee. Kazoku black was okay. Too fatty for me. Took leftovers home and the broth completely congealed in the fridge, it was straight fat. I do love that I was able to swap ramen noodles for mung bean noodles which are gluten free. They do have one fully gluten free ramen bowl as well. The inside looks like an authentic ramen restaurant in Japan. I would say, though, that the portions are a little small. I realize that this may be yet another authentic feature as I have heard that meal portions in Japan are smaller than what you would find in the West. As far as taste, no complaints here. I got the Kazoku Red which is their spiciest ramen selection. The word Kazoku or かぞく means family in Japanese and it appears that this indeed may be a family run restaurant. Service was quick and efficient. However I still have to compare it to Sheng Ramen which seems to have bigger portions and the ramen noodles seem to be more authentic at Sheng. The noodles at Kazoku seemed to simply be very thin spaghetti - like vermicelli. You do pay more at Sheng though too. All in all, Kazoku is decent enough, but if I'm in the mood for ramen, there are other places I would choose first. read more

Update: it got worse!! After reviewing, I thought it was fair to give the manager a call. I let him know about the poor service and he began grilling me. "Normally you ask for the manager while you're still in the restaurant," he replied nastily. I replied that we had a movie to get to, and with the slow service, I would have also assumed it would have taken forever to get the manager out. He gave zero apology on the phone. He had such a nasty attitude until I said, "I'm not looking for money back, I am simply reaching out to inform the manager of a poor experience. Typically, managers take feedback and do better going forward." Then his attitude completely switched but I was so offended by his initial nastiness, I hung up. Always a staple whenever we come down this city of the city. Especially when the Ramen craving is an all time high. Every time we have come in we are greeted and seated instantly. Service is 10/10 and so is the ramen. The broth is hot and flavorful and always has us leaving with our bellies full. My mom LOVES this place!!! She loves the Kazoku Karaage and the Kazoku Black ramen. She always gets 2 orders of the Kazoku Karaage which is a 4 piece homemade Japanese fried chicken thigh, scallion, served with spicy mayo. We were informed that you can now get the Kazoku Black spicy so we ordered one of those and 2 of the regular one. The Kazoku Black is full of flavor with a heavy concentration on garlic. The spicy does not compromise the garlic flavor. It's delicious. Being a texture girl I really appreciate that the pork belly in their ramen always has a good meat to fat ratio. But asking for some hot sauce should have been fine - come to find out we were charged for each Teeny Tiny bowl - 2.00 ! Also we were explained that there were no free refills on the tea or soda! And was hands down thee best ramen I've ever had. The flavor was full and throughout, every bite and piece of food. At first I was eyeing the chicken and thinking it looked dry but I think that's just how it's cooked because the chicken was the best part!!! It was fantastic and had a light sweetness to it that paired perfectly with the savory ramen. I also ordered their hot green tea which was Genmaicha, Green Tea With Roasted Brown Rice Flavor. Amazing and really different than anything I've ever had. They also give free refills on the hot tea and I was incredibly and pleasantly surprised about this. For dessert I tried the mochi green tea ice cream and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was my first time having it and I'd absolutely order it again and again. We visited Ramen Bar Kazoku as a group of four, and two of us ordered the Chicken Katsu Curry. Unfortunately, the chicken was extremely tough and completely inedible--we couldn't even cut through it. We brought this to the manager's attention, but he showed no concern whatsoever. Even after we physically showed him the issue, he insisted nothing was wrong and then walked away without offering any resolution or returning to our table. This was disappointing, especially since we've had this dish here before and it was great--moist, flavorful, and well-prepared. This time, it was clearly not the same quality. What made the experience worse was the lack of service. We couldn't get anyone's attention for water, and the manager continued to ignore us after our complaint. When another server eventually brought the bill and asked if we wanted a box for the untouched meals, we explained the situation again. All she said was "sorry" before running our card with no further effort to make things right. It wasn't just the food--it was the dismissive and careless service that made this a place we won't return to. Mistakes can happen with food, but how a restaurant handles it makes all the difference. I saw reviews of this new ramen bar in Yelp, so had to stop in to check it out... I swung in alone super-early (11:30 am), and there was only 1 other table of diners. The place is small and quite cozy, with this hipster-rustic feel. However, the best tables were set for bigger parties of 3 or more. Aside from countertop seatings, all the single tables were laid out somewhat awkwardly (super-close to one another). I did love how they made the place very comfy with generous air conditioning...and overhead music. As it turned out, I could have easily sat in one of the nicer, larger, booth-styled tables (as it was super-early, and a slow that day). I don't have friends or family members that are ramen fans, so I usually do ramen bars alone...and unfortunately, I don't find their layout too friendly for solo dining. The menu was fairly small, but it had some cool, unique points. It has Keto- and Gluten-Free options, for instance. Also, it had many popular Japanese appetizers. I chose the spicy Miso ramen, with an order of Karaage Chicken on the side. I really appreciated the nice presentation of both. I actually ruined the ramen presentation by adding the messy bamboo shoots. While not the best I've had, the Karaage Chicken was pretty good...and especially so with their dip. As for the ramen, I thought it was solid. It had some unique aspects...in that it came with both Pork Belly AND minced Chicken! Also, loved the taste and texture of their noodle. Oddly, the broth wasn't filled higher like most...but that was fine with me, as I don't love the water weight. The flavor wasn't super-rich, but it was just savory enough. Overall, I liked this ramen bar. Think the place is family-owned...and the service was fast, friendly and attentive. Charlotte continues to have a lot of Ramen place opening. There two other ramen place in the area. Ramen scene is heating up. First of I like the set up for the restaurant, it has about 6 to 7 tables and many seating for the noodle bar. Also it has some art work on the walls and it felt clean being that it is a new restaurant. The service was excellent, everyone seems to care about the restaurant and they want to do well. The food quality is mostly good. The dumplings are flavorful, I just wish it can be more crispy, but it does has great balance with dumpling sauce. Karaage is fresh and hot. I ordere the Shoyu Ramen, the soup was flavorful and Cha Chu tasted great with a bit of sweetness. Knowing the location I hope this restaurant will do well. The location next to the theater seems to be great, but knowing the history in the area, the restaurant doesn't stay around too long. Great Ramen spot located just a few steps from the movie theater. You can walk there to grab a bite after a movie, and seems like a great spot for a date night too. The ramen was good, I tried the chicken broth. The Ebi shumai was also delish...those bites always go so fast (next time might get 2 orders)!
