I was greeted and there was not a wait, so I looked at the menu and everything looked amazing. I tried the plum sake and it was really good. The waiter suggested Japanese Crispy Chicken, which was amazing. For the entree, I order the Katsu Curry Ramen. It was amazing!! Not spicy, but so full of flavor. On our latest visit here, I ordered their Spicy Miso Ramen...and it was DEE-Lish! As good as this is, I usually end up ordering their Katsu Chicken Curry Ramen. My husband can't seem to deviate from this amazing bowl as well. In any case, both are highly recommended! I also shared their Seaweed Salad appetizer with my husband...and we both agreed that it was really fresh. Few things that could have been better? The overhead music wasn't right...genre (whatever that was playing?!?) was way off for the restaurant. Also, I felt that they might have been understaffed. The place was quite busy (Saturday night), and I didn't see too many waiters-waitresses. Despite the service being a bit slow, our waitress was friendly, and remembered everything that was requested...so not a big issue. Still, we really enjoyed this ramen experience. Came here for a casual mid week date night. I've been wanting to try this spot for a minute and it did not disappoint. We were greeted and seated promptly. Just a FYI: The restaurant is moderate size, but it was mostly empty when we arrived. Our server was very attentive and nice. We started off with coconut waters and appetizers, I ordered the seaweed salad and rice and my husband ordered the Japanese chicken which comes with a spicy mayo. The appetizers are served in large portions! We overdid it and were near stuffed before the entrees arrived. We both ordered the chicken ramen, my husband ordered the standard steam white meat chicken that is served with the bowl, and I paid $3 additional for chicken katsu. I would have done better getting no meat at all, because I wasn't a fan of either meat in my bowl. However, the noodles were so good and the broth was amazing. The menu recommends to use a spicy chili paste for an additional dollar (which I did because I'm a spice queen lol) and I LOVED it! The spice from the paste in the already flavorful broth was a tastebud explosion! The portion sizes are large, so come here hungry. Unfortunately, the apps took me out and I couldn't really eat 1/4 of my meal. I definitely plan to come back here! read more

We already have a go-to ramen spot in the area but one day we decided to venture out. Sheng is good! They stay really busy even mid afternoon on the weekend. What stood out the most is the portion size! I can usually finish my bowl of ramen but here I took half of it home! So you definitely get a good portion size for the price. For my anniversary my wife and I chose to go to Sheng Ramen as shes a huge connoisseur of ramen. We drove down to Ballantyne to check this place out and it was really good. The waiter was prompt and attended to our needs and she put in our orders as I ordered the curry ramen and my wife ordered the tonkotsu ramen. My meal was unbelievably awesome as the chicken was cooked just perfect and the broth was seasoned good and hot. I also ordered the pork belly bao buns and these were probably the best bao buns I've ever had. Sheng Ramen to me is ALWAYS an excellent idea. Even though the restaurant itself is a bit smaller, you can still comfortably sit and enjoy a meal! The staff is attentive and so kind! They are also amazing for pick up or delivery and they will put your doodles separate from the broth so nothing gets soggy My husband and I always get the same bowls. I get the spicy miso (spicy chili sauce + egg on side) and he gets the Tonkotsu bowl. We love Sheng so much that we don't even have to ask one another what we want!! read more

This is my second time at this restaurant and I loved it both times. The food is amazing and the atmosphere in the restaurant is laid-back and inviting. We arrived for lunch on the second visit (my hubby and I). The first time I came alone. Both times I got the Tonkatsu Ramen. It's garlicy, hot, and the noodles were cooked perfectly. They were just the right amount of chew. The pork was tender and flavorful too. My husband got the curry ramen. He said it was a good amount of heat, but not overwhelming. I'm so happy I got to try this spot out! I've heard of it before but I rarely come to this area of town and was so happy to dine here. We arrived about 40 minutes before they closed and they were super nice and didn't make a fuss. We ordered quick because we knew we didn't have that much time. I ordered the spring rolls and the spicy miso ramen. The spring rolls came out first and I could look at them and tell either they were cooked too long or the oil they were fried in was older. And that would make sense because it was the end of the night. They tasted how they looked, burnt. But I let the server know and she took them off my order. I told her not to worry about making another batch since it was so close to closing. Our server was great! Now that spicy miso ramen was phenomenal!!! I opted to have the chili paste on the side so I could measure my heat intake. I ended up using all of it in the ramen and it was such a fun spice level for me. I don't really do spicy food so I was happy I was able to enjoy this!!! So many yummy flavors!! I wish this pace wasn't almost an hour away from my house lol. We had a great time and meal here. Updated as of 9/28/25: Do not trust the yelp menu pricing. Dine in prices for the ramen are 4 dollars lower in reality across the board. Ordered my usual tonkotsu for 18 dollars and got bamboo shoots for a dollar extra. Just like my past reviews, everything about price for quantity holds true. I ate at Menya Daruma a week prior and Sheng offers double the noodles and what seems like double the pork for the same price. The extra bamboo shoots are cheaper as well and I received more at Sheng vs Menya despite that. Yeah I'll say it - STILL THE BEST BOWL OF RAMEN IN CHARLOTTE. Bottle of Asahi for only 5 dollars as well? Do yourself a favor and order the crispy chicken appetizer. It's 12 dollars but the amount of chicken is substantial and delicious. Tonkotsu pork broth was rich and flavorful with tons of cabbage, bean sprouts, onions, and scallions topped with two large slices of chashu pork and a full egg (cut in half). The portion was big and filling. The Shumai (fried shrimp dumplings) were ok and came with 8 pieces. They seemed lightly fried but a bit mushy and not as much flavor. Notes: Hostess and Waitress were friendly and helpful. Waitress was helpful in my order selection. I did notice the hostess on her phone a lot even while guests were coming in and leaving. Clean, neat, very Japanese in its simple cleanliness, Sheng Ramen is a good place to try. Good menu, nice array of appetizers and the noodle dishes are clustered together by noodle type. Was surprised to find soba noodles (Yakisoba) which are made with buckwheat flour and, at least in Japan, are a winter-time go-to noodle. But here they are year round. Thin ramen noodles are prepared in a number of soups which they call broths. You will find broths of chicken (paitan - made with chicken bones), pork (tonkotsu - made from boiled down pork bones), vegetarian, miso, soy (shoyu - soy infused bone boiled down) and seafood styles. Veggies and other goodies are thrown on top of your broth and you get a spoon and chopsticks to slurp down your bowl of goodies. Like Vietnamese Pho. Broths are hot temperature and you can spice it up with chili paste that will blow out your circuits...to your taste and tolerance. There are also rice dishes with pork, chicken, egg and veggie. Sort of like Japanese style Indian biryani. Very reasonable prices, huge portions, excellent service. Get out there and slurp those noodles. read more

Quite and quaint place in a shopping center while visiting the ballentyne area. Plenty of parking as well as friendly staff. Not the best ramen I've had in Charlotte but decent for the price. I ordered the chicken ramen(paitan ramen)and the bf ordered the seafood ramen with Shrimp shu mai appetizer. Flavorful broth and plentiful portions! My only concern was the actual chicken in my ramen. It was quite tough and cut into small pieces. Not something I'm used to in a traditional chicken ramen. Reminded me more of a chicken soup then a ramen. They do give you a lot of chicken which is a plus, I wasn't able to finish it all. The food has never been a disappointment. I always enjoy a good bowl of ramen especially on cold nights. We went there and ordered the shumai, pork belly bun, fried chicken bun, and a Tonksu Ramen. The Shumai was fresh and delicious, but my favorite has always been the pork belly buns. This place is small and cozy, we usually don't have to wait long for a seat. Came here today for some ramen and something new. They always have fast service and lots of food for the portions. The ramen is always amazing with such a deep flavor and all the toppings are amazing. The egg is cooked perfectly and lots of noodles so much so I had to save half my bowl to take home for dinner. If they offered smaller bowls for a cheaper I would definitely buy it since I can never finish a bowl myself. Everything here is amazing and it's never too loud even when busy. In the ever emerging world of ramen in Charlotte, sheng ramen brings some bold favors to the Ballantyne area. I have always been a fan of another ramen spot in Charlotte, and that has been a standard measure of comparison for me at new places. What I appreciated about sheng's ramen was the development of flavor in their broth and the delacacy of their noodles. Each bowl was presented with care and you knew some love went into making it. The pork belly is smoked and then grilled, which didn't do anything for me besides leaving an overpowering smoky smell as I ate my ramen. The same with the fish cake, it had an overwhelming fish smell, but when you tasted it, it was just kind of gummy. Other than that, the egg, the sprouts and all the other accompaniments were delicious and inviting. If you like spicy, add the spicy sauce to your ramen...you won't be disappointed. We also ordered the gyoza, which I could have eaten about 100 of those. They were light, crispy and the sauce complimented it well. read more

Hands down one of the best Ramen spots in Charlotte! I can see why they made number 3 on Yelp's Best 40 new places to eat in Charlotte for 2019. I'm so happy they are here in the Ballantyne area. I would say I'm a bit of a Ramen snob and their ramen is amazing!!! I would compare it to the Ramen I had in San Fran in Japantown. They do an incredible job with the preparation and flavoring of their dishes. They are taking time with their broth and really nurturing the flavors. During my visit I ordered the a Tonkotsu Ramen and the Katsu Don. The Tonkotsu Ramen was so creamy. The broth is perfection. The pork belly is braised and has the amazing grill marks on them that give them so much flavor. My nibbling split a bowl and they could have eaten a bowl eat they loved the flavor so much. The Katsu Don was a good amount of food. We got salad and pineapples in a bento box style dish. The chicken was crispy and tasty. I was afraid my mother wouldn't like to but she loved it. The space isn't very large and the restaurant filled up twice during our visit. So they are a big hit. The service was excellent and our order came out very quickly.
