    Tonkotsu Ramen

We already have a go-to ramen spot in the area but one day we decided to venture out. Sheng is good! They stay really busy even mid afternoon on the weekend. What stood out the most is the portion size! I can usually finish my bowl of ramen but here I took half of it home! So you definitely get a good portion size for the price. Beware the spicy chili sauce is VERY spicy so proceed with caution. We liked this spot!

Came here for a casual mid week date night. I've been wanting to try this spot for a minute and it did not disappoint. We were greeted and seated promptly. Just a FYI: The restaurant is moderate size, but it was mostly empty when we arrived. Our server was very attentive and nice. We started off with coconut waters and appetizers, I ordered the seaweed salad and rice and my husband ordered the Japanese chicken which comes with a spicy mayo. The appetizers are served in large portions! We overdid it and were near stuffed before the entrees arrived. We both ordered the chicken ramen, my husband ordered the standard steam white meat chicken that is served with the bowl, and I paid $3 additional for chicken katsu. I would have done better getting no meat at all, because I wasn't a fan of either meat in my bowl. However, the noodles were so good and the broth was amazing. The menu recommends to use a spicy chili paste for an additional dollar (which I did because I'm a spice queen lol) and I LOVED it! The spice from the paste in the already flavorful broth was a tastebud explosion! The portion sizes are large, so come here hungry. Unfortunately, the apps took me out and I couldn't really eat 1/4 of my meal. I definitely plan to come back here!

This is my second time at this restaurant and I loved it both times. The food is amazing and the atmosphere in the restaurant is laid-back and inviting. We arrived for lunch on the second visit (my hubby and I). The first time I came alone. Both times I got the Tonkatsu Ramen. It's garlicy, hot, and the noodles were cooked perfectly. They were just the right amount of chew. The pork was tender and flavorful too. My husband got the curry ramen. He said it was a good amount of heat, but not overwhelming. The pork buns are a #1 requested appetizer, and we see why. They were amazing. If you are thinking of trying this place, please visit them.

I'm so happy I got to try this spot out! I've heard of it before but I rarely come to this area of town and was so happy to dine here. We arrived about 40 minutes before they closed and they were super nice and didn't make a fuss. We ordered quick because we knew we didn't have that much time. I ordered the spring rolls and the spicy miso ramen. The spring rolls came out first and I could look at them and tell either they were cooked too long or the oil they were fried in was older. And that would make sense because it was the end of the night. They tasted how they looked, burnt. But I let the server know and she took them off my order. I told her not to worry about making another batch since it was so close to closing. Our server was great! Now that spicy miso ramen was phenomenal!!! I opted to have the chili paste on the side so I could measure my heat intake. I ended up using all of it in the ramen and it was such a fun spice level for me. I don't really do spicy food so I was happy I was able to enjoy this!!! So many yummy flavors!! I wish this pace wasn't almost an hour away from my house lol. We had a great time and meal here. Would love to to go back soon!!

Seriously good food, and great service. I've traveled quite a bit through Japan and thought this was a really authentic spot, taking a lot of care with the food.

The most delicious Tonkotsu Ramen you will ever eat! Unbelieveablely delicious

Amazing service, bombastic food and great atmosphere. I super recommend. I have never had a bad meal here and the ramen is purely authentic and soooooo much!

Back to try the Ramen again -- got the Pork Belly which was good but thw broth had no flavor and its full of noodles but that is about it --- just okay My Partners dish was a Chicken Katsu on top of rice and they loved it . Just wish it was a little more flavorful !

Try: Tonkotsu Ramen! Why: Solid ramen place during my work trip to Ballantyne, NC. Tonkotsu pork broth was rich and flavorful with tons of cabbage, bean sprouts, onions, and scallions topped with two large slices of chashu pork and a full egg (cut in half). The portion was big and filling. The Shumai (fried shrimp dumplings) were ok and came with 8 pieces. They seemed lightly fried but a bit mushy and not as much flavor. Notes: Hostess and Waitress were friendly and helpful. Waitress was helpful in my order selection. I did notice the hostess on her phone a lot even while guests were coming in and leaving. Clean restaurant conveniently in a super market shopping center.

We frequent Sheng Ramen as my entire family always requests it as a Sunday dinner or lunch. Japanese crispy chicken, tonkatsu ramen, teriyaki chicken, and gyoza are our favs. Service could be better....

We circled for about 10 minutes, fighting off three other cars, before finally finding a spot. We arrived just before opening on Sunday and were seated promptly. The place was clean, and the ordering process was straightforward. However, they nickel and dimed you for everything. We ordered two pork bun and black tonkotsu ramens with the recommended extras. The pork buns were small and came with shredded pork, which I don't like. The ramen was small for $18, and the flavors were okay. But something was off with the broth. When I asked our waitress for some chili sauce, she told us to order it through the app, which goes back to my previous comment about being nickel and dimed for everything. In total, our bill came to $67.55, which I thought was a rip-off for just okay ramen. I won't be returning because I've found much better ramen elsewhere at much lower prices.

It took 10 minutes to even be addressed by staff in the lobby, where there were numerous people waiting to be either sat for dine in, order placing, and order pick up. A table of 4 walked in right before me for dine in service. Then I placed my to go order. All I ordered was pan fried gyoza and a side of steamed rice. I had a discount to add, which the hostess did not know how to do, so I had to wait for someone else to come to the front in order to pay. Someone finally came up and I was able to pay. While I was waiting on my food, I noticed another woman was there to pick up her to go order and she was not addressed by any staff for almost 15 minutes. I continued waiting for my food for over 30 minutes-for a single appetizer and side of rice. By 45 minutes, I was letting other people that came in know how long the food was taking. Another woman who was waiting on her to go order heard me say it had taken a while and said she had placed her order ahead but a lot of time had still elapsed by the time it was ready. They brought her order out and I had to ask another server if they could check for my order. When they finally brought it out, it had been over 45 minutes. As I was talking to the server, the party that walked in before me for dine in service had finished their meals and were leaving the restaurant. I asked for a refund, which the server obliged and apologized for. Once I got back to the office and opened my food, it was disappointing to say the least. The "pan fried" gyoza was barely fried, and the dumplings were so gooey that they were sticking to each other and the plate and falling apart. Every time I try to give Jinya a chance, I am disappointed again and again. After returning to the office, I spoke with other coworkers who have all had similar experiences recently. Suffice to say I definitely won't be giving them any more chances.

I also liked how loud the overhead music was...but sadly, it was elevator music. Very dated. If it was something a bit more contemporary (metro lounge?), it would have been way nicer. Now, the food! I ordered their Doza Ramen, which looked spicy from the pictures...but I ended up with a very mild broth, with hardly any red chile sauce or spice to it at all. I even asked if they can add more chili and/or spice to it, and the waitress basically said that's not possible (What?!? Of course you can!!). Anyway, she said I can add Siracha sauce. (???) Guess she assumed this was the first time I had ramen lol?!? The Pork Chashu was nice and tender, but very small portion...and a tiny portion of ground pork (of beef?) and mushroom as well. Just skimpy toppings all around...yet this bowl was priced 18 bucks. I also hated how they didn't even bother to split open the egg. Also, I wasn't a fan of their super-thin noodles either. Just look at how unappetizing this bowl looked! So basically, this ramen struck out on several accounts. Possibly the weakest ramen I've had in a restaurant in years?? I managed to down at least one third of it though. Then this Sampler Tempura. While the portion of plentiful, I thought the batter was weak...and well, some of the veggie tempura just tasted BAD. Especially the Brussel Sprouts (which I normally love) had this sour taste to it? I was also disappointed that they didn't include Broccoli in the mix. I was only able to eat half of this. Just not that good. I just can't sugarcoat it. I was not into their ramen or this sampler tempura. Both too mild...very bland. Also...they charge you an additional dollar if you use credit card. Something I don't recall seeing on the menu. Given such high ratings from Yelp, I had high hopes for this place...but I left scratching my head. I doubt I'll be returning anytime soon.
