    Chicken and shrimp hibachi
    Stephen P.

Actually had time to get out for lunch today and given how it is getting increasingly difficult to find solid lunch value in the area, decided to venture out a bit and give Steele Creek a shot. Noticed online that Asahi Sushi has AYCE lunch specials, so figured what better way to maximize the ROI so why not, even though this would be my first time giving it a try. Upon entering, I greeted the host and mentioned that I was a first timer, but he didn't even say hello and pointed me to a table without saying a word. Totally understand potential language barrier issues, but not unreasonable to expect the host to offer a basic greeting, but whatever. The interior had a decent layout with plenty of seating and the decor was fine, but the seating area wasn't the cleanest as there were crumbs and such on the seats and under the table, and the table had the "just wiped down with a used dish rag" swirls and touch. Server seemed to be sleepwalking through the motions even though they had just opened. She offered little to no words, even less personality or didn't seem to care if I was there at all. On the plus side, the food came out quickly as they employed a team to ensure promptness, but outside of that, not much to say on the positive front. Unfortunately not much positive about the sushi rolls or the nigiri, as the nigiri rice was subpar and the fish was just kinda there and the wasabi was watery so didn't bother to taste it. The rolls were below the already lowered expectations that I always have when I hit an AYCE place, as you kinda know going in that you are gonna get 3 star level sushi at best, but this wasn't even that, as the fish was flavorless as it didn't even taste mediocre and the rolls were sliced in "kid portions". In summary, the sushi wasn't even yummy nor did it make this "mister" feel like he was in Tokyo (see what I did there). I was determined to pull a positive ROI on this adventure, so I asked for another sheet to see if I could turn a negative into a positive by ordering something else, so I decided to give the chicken/shrimp hibachi and spring rolls a shot, since that would easily put me in solid ROI territory vs the lunch special price of 16.99. The hibachi came out hot and was fine in terms of taste and portion size, so definitely keeps them out of dreaded one star territory. Plus the 16.99 price point for AYCE is a solid value, even if the sushi was well below already low expectations, as they have enough on the menu to get a decent value for your money even if you pass on the sushi like I should have. With that said, the reason for two stars is because the whole point of going to an AYCE sushi place is to get your fill of at least halfway decent sushi at a great value, and in that regard, this was unfortunately a swing and a miss. Guess I will just stick to the beer from now on...sigh...

Came on a whim and got to enjoy the $16 all you can eat deal! Food was amazing and perfect portions! Felicia took care of us and had great recommendations and was absolutely hilarious! we will definitely be returning!

Last night a friend and I went to Asahi in Steele Creek for dinner. It is an all you can eat sushi buffet. It was better than I expected. Lunch $16, Dinner $25. Soft drinks $3. They give you a paper menu to select all the items you would like to order. I caution you though, everything comes out all at once that you ordered. So if you want soups and appetizers to come out first, order only that then ask for another paper menu. My friend and I each ordered but shared the items we got. They do have a separate menu you can order from, but you cannot order an all you can eat buffet and separate menu item if sitting at the same table. There is also a caution note to ensure that you only order what you can eat, otherwise they will charge you an additional 50 cents to $1 PER PIECE that you do not eat. Since this was our first time, we fumbled along. For appetizers: I got the shrimp tempura, shasumi, and goza. The shrimp tempura was pretty good. It needs a sauce but thankfully I had ordered hibachi that came out at the same time so I used the sauce that came with that. The goza was very good, fried and warm. The shasumi was very small and slightly fried. I think next time I may order miso soup and put it in there. The hibachi was very good. They give you the option to select by circling which proteins you want, veggies or not, rice or not. I got steak and shrimp. I'm used to hibachi coming with lo main, but lo mein was under a separate option. Next time I would get the hibachi and write lo mein next to it. (They should add that option IMO). I also got the seaweed salad (very good) and 2 pieces of shrimp nigiri (good). The first roll, I really liked. It was shrimp tempura with shredded crabmeat (likely fake) wrapped in lettuce. It took 2 bites to eat each piece, the roll was so wide. I put a line thru adding eel sauce and spicy mayo sauce on top. The next roll, I would not recommend : it had softshell crab & spicy salmon. The center of this roll was tough and chewy. We discovered the cause was the softshell crab. I have no idea what they did to make this inedible, but I had to pop out the softshell crab of each piece in order to eat it. Finally, the last thing I ordered created ALOT of confusion, apparently. I ordered the salmon roll and wrote the words "with avocado". The first time they tried to deliver it, they delivered a SPICY SALMON roll with no avocado. If you are not aware, this is salmon that has been pulverized into a mush, mixed with spicy mayo, then smashed into the roll. I very much dislike this type of roll, so I refused it and restated what I had ordered. The next time they brought out the SPICY SALMON roll with avocado this time. I again refused it and restated my order. 3rd time was a charm They finally brought out my salmon roll with whole pieces of salmon and avocado. However, I was out of ginger and wasabi so asked for more. It probably took the waitress 15 minutes to finally bring it because I had to remind her again the next time she stopped by since she forgot. Overall, this place is definitely worth the money you pay. If someone doesn't like sushi, there's still enough options such as soup, salad, hibachi, noodles, chicken skewers, etc. to make them happy.

Mr.Tokyo whoooo??? This place is a 10/10 if you're into housing copious amounts of sushi, apps, and hibachi. The place is super clean and modern. Staff is kind & quick. Make sure to try to try the salmon lovers roll... so good I had to snag a bite before a pic. Oops!

We had a great dinner, but there were three things that kept it from being a 5-star experience. First, the air conditioning. I understand it's a hibachi restaurant and the grills naturally make the dining room warmer, but I've eaten at many hibachi restaurants over the years and have never experienced one this hot. Everyone at our table was sweating, and it became pretty uncomfortable. Second, the appetizer. The salad was fantastic--they certainly didn't skimp on the dressing--and the soup was absolutely delicious. However, the "appetizer" consisted of just two shrimp. Since I ordered the Hibachi Steak & Scallops, two shrimp were a nice addition, but I wouldn't really consider two shrimp an appetizer. My girlfriend ordered the Hibachi Chicken & Shrimp, so her appetizer was simply two more shrimp. It would have been nice to have another appetizer option instead of just adding shrimp to every meal. Third, the chef. The food was cooked perfectly and was absolutely delicious, but the hibachi experience itself was missing the entertainment. One of the things that makes hibachi special is watching the chef combine excellent cooking with fun tricks, conversation, and interaction with the guests. Our chef prepared the meal well and did the classic onion volcano, but beyond that, he simply cooked. It lacked the energy and engaging performance that I've come to expect from a hibachi restaurant. Those three things aside, the meal itself was outstanding. The salad, soup, steak, scallops, chicken, shrimp, fried rice, and vegetables were all excellent, and the portions were very generous. The friendly staff and delicious food definitely make Fuji worth visiting, and with just a few improvements, it could easily earn that fifth star from me. Overall, I give Fuji 4 stars. The restaurant gave us BOTH mostly chicken to save on cost and there was barely any beef. See hubby's order and it is ALL chicken (WHICH SHOULDN'T EVEN BE IN THERE !) and just a couple of pieces of beef. In fact, when they brought it to the table, even the waitress thought it was chicken until the (manager?) pointed to some beef under the noodles. One: this should be on the menu as beef & chicken if they are going to do this. Two: this is deception. For this reason I took off a star from my last visit (which was 3 stars because their curry was like a soup instead of an entree - I didn't like it either.) The fried pork pot stickers ($9) were very good. Their chicken wings appetizer with Thai BBQ Sauce ($12) were very good. The Thai tea was good and served in a cute mug. We sat in a booth, which was nice. However, the table next to us had a huge hole in the seat of the material in that booth. My opinion is that the owner does not put effort into the food or the restaurant trying to save money. In my opinion, they are participating in deceptive practices by the substitution of chicken for beef dishes due to cost (see photos for evidence). The waitress was nice. I recommend going elsewhere for Thai food.
