Crab Rangoons (comes with 6 but clearly couldn't stop eating them before I snapped a pic lol)
Chelle P.

I was looking for a new takeout spot to add to my list and I think I found it. Service was pretty standard for togo pleasant and didn't have any issues calling in. It's also nice inside to sit down and eat as well. I ordered the crispy scallion beef entree w/ crab Rangoon togo. First off the food was hot and fresh when I got it! The beef was perfectly cooked along with the rice and egg roll. But the absolute star of the show was the crab rangoon! They were sooo delicious! Fried well and PACKED with meat! I absolutely loved it and will definitely be back again!

I've had lunch here a few times in the distant past...and I recall thinking the foods were good, but didn't like the vibe for some reason. Since then, I almost forgot about this place (for more than a decade...Ouch?)! Fast forward to the present...and a friend raved about the foods here, so I decided to give it another shot. I arrived for a late lunch (almost 2 pm?)...and surprisingly, there were still a good amount of people, which is a good sign. Even more than a decade later, the place still looked about the same. In some ways, better than how I remembered it? I'm usually not a fan of Chinese lunch specials...but I loved how their lunch menu is so customized, with lots of choices (type of meats, type of sauces, etc.etc.)! I ordered from the Lunch Special - Crispy Fried Chicken w/ General Sauce, with Fried Rice and Egg Roll. I also ordered Hot 'n Sour Soup. BTW, I couldn't believe how cheap things were...possibly the cheapest menu I've seen in a LONG time! It's basically as cheap as, if not cheaper than a take-out place. This place isn't a posh restaurant, but not a basic take-out joint either. Despite its take-out pricing, the foods were NOT Take-Out quality. In fact, I was near shocked at the quality of this 10-99 Lunch Special! The General Sauce was DEE-Lish...and I loved how their "Crispy Fried" is just lightly battered...not super-thick. I loved the mushrooms and water chestnuts in the dish too...plenty of mushroom, but there was only 1 piece of water chestnut! Maybe I arrived too late, and the ingredient ran out?? Also, I thought the Hot 'n Sour Soup was very well made, with good mix of ingredients, but they were a bit bland...so much so that I had to add salt and pepper. Still, I liked the generous amount of bamboo shoots and tofu in the soup. Overall, the foods were really good! As expected from a Chinese restaurant, service was fast and attentive. Although I was a tad disappointed with the soup, and the lack of water chestnuts in my dish, I did love the flavor of the Crispy Fried Chicken (General Sauce). Surprisingly delicious...in the most authentic way. Although not altogether a perfect dining experience, I thought they deserved 5 stars in terms of overall value. I mean...seriously, 10-99 for a full quality dish, including Fried Rice and Egg Roll?!? I've paid more at McDonalds!!! So glad I returned to this place. Think I'll be returning soon!

Stumbled across this restaurant after getting my nails done. Ordered general chicken. Restaurant was full of customers - seems to be a popular place. The entree didn't taste fresh to me. They gave a heaping portion of white rice and the pieces of chicken were pretty big. Overall I wasn't satisfied. I'd give this restaurant another chance - may dining inside will be better.

Crab Rangoons

From the moment we walked in, we hoped that it was going to be good because the restaurant smelled so flavorful. It was about 7:30pm or 8pm on a Saturday and overall the dining room was not busy, but as we ate our dinner, we noticed that the to go orders and telephone lines for placing orders was BOOMING! We were in the mood for lo mein so we found what we wanted pretty quickly, ordered the crab Rangoons as appetizers and added cokes for drinks. The cokes came out with good carbonation, and with a refill carafe. Even though we had the carafe the waitress still came by and refilled our drinks on the table. Nice touch for customer service!! The crab rangoons were tasty especially with whatever the orange sauce is on the table. Good ratio of crab meat and cream cheese and wontons are fried crispy! Now the entrees... not only are they delicious but these portions are huge!!! Def enough for two people to split or one person to have another entire meal. And our plates were approximately $11 dollars each. My lo mein was the house version which included chicken, beef and shrimp, and my partner ordered chicken and shrimp lo mein with a spring egg roll. My egg roll was traditional and contained pork, which was ok with me. The waitress also confirmed that with me before placing the order. Sorry that I do not have a pic of the "orange sauce on the table" but it initially appeared to be a duck sauce, but once I tasted it, it's more like a sweet and sour sauce of some sort. It was sweet and tangy and paired well with my egg roll, the lo mein and it's veggies. Try it out when you come! Service was inviting, and welcoming, and satisfied the lo mein craving we had. This was a great experience and a nice restaurant to stop by while passing by & headed back to the triad.

Black Pepper Chicken

This was my cheat day and we seem to be on an Asian kick lately. Been wanting to try this one for a while and it was a great experience. Staff was super friendly and seated us right away and even helped with the high chair for our daughter. It's a decent size dining area and looks like people have been coming here for years. Could use some updating, but was clean. I mainly came here to try the dumplings and saw their meals were still reasonably priced. The menu has a variety of meal options with picking the protein and a sauce and some lo mein and appetizer options. Most meals come with white or fried rice and egg roll or spring roll. We ordered steamed dumplings, ginger chicken, black pepper chicken and plain lo mein noodles for the kiddo. Dumplings were the thicker kind with a mild flavor. The sauce was more savory with a soy spicy taste. My black pepper chicken was good. Sauce was just spicy enough and did have a black pepper flavor. Veggies and chicken were cooked just right. I loved their fried rice. It had a nice flavor and I could see pieces of egg throughout, how my family makes it. The egg roll had a good crunch and seasoned veggies inside. My husband ate all his meal. And my daughter who is picky and doesn't always eat, ate almost all her noodles. Service was quick and several staff interacted with our daughter which she enjoyed. They even brought out her noodles as soon as they were ready. We enjoyed it a lot and will be back.

I came in here with my brother and his wife when they were in town. We came on a Saturday night and the place was pretty busy, but we were able to get a table right away. The service was good, but the food was pretty bland. The best part was the pan fried pork dumplings.

So I'm not fully sold on the place just yet. Both the food and the service are a mixed bag in my opinion. I stopped in for the first time after a work out right next door at CKO. Nothing better than a hefty pile of Chinese food (or in this case Taiwanese) to fill your belly after a hardcore workout. The first visit I ordered the Four Happiness and the second visit I ordered the Chicken with Mixed Veggies. I was not impressed with the egg rolls and found them chewy. The spring rolls are better with that perfect crunch. May have been an issue of freshness. Both dishes had a serious amount of meat, which is also great after a good workout. The fried rice did indeed leave something to be desired. I didn't find it unpalatable but it was nothing special. It's a good thing for extra sauce in the meat and veggies to help flavor-up the rice a bit. Prices aren't bad at all, even for dinner. They're just what you expect for typical Americanized Chinese/Taiwanese food. You can get out with a belly full of dinner for $10 after tip. Service was always fast but they get a bit pushy and both times I had my bill brought to me while I was still halfway into my meal. It felt like I was being asked to speed it up, even though there were other tables always available. I will definitely come back but may try some other places in the area after my next workout.

I went for lunch and service was quick and hot food. The prices for a combo meal are affordable and dishes are customizable.

It's a very family, fast paced quick service spot. But they hit the spot. The orange chicken was nice and crispy, came out piping hot. Had to give it a minute to cool. The broccoli was also done really well! Not mushy and still had a good crunch. May be a regular spot for a quick and comforting dinner.

It was pushing 97 degrees outside, and after a long afternoon of computer work and errands, I finally stopped in for the crispy scallion chicken and pan-fried dumplings. Huge portions. Fair prices. Friendly people. Consistently solid food every single time. The best part today honestly might have been the air conditioning. They've got a cool, comfortable space to wait while your order is prepared, which felt amazing after baking outside all day. I forgot to take food photos because I was hungry and ready to get home, but trust me, they pack these takeout containers like a game of Jenga. Nothing spills. Nothing shifts. Everything is packed tight and thoughtfully. Only tiny downside: the dumpling sauce goes into the same container as the hot dumplings, so by the time I got home, it had softened the bottom a bit. Still, the dumpling wrappers are thick and crispy enough to survive the trip. Into the air fryer later they go. One warning: the parking lot can be chaotic since it sits right off busy Providence Road. Just be patient. Cars are constantly pulling in, backing out, blocking entrances, and today people were absolutely treating red lights like suggestions. Saw it multiple times, including a bus cutting across traffic when I had the right-of-way. Charlotte drivers... please relax a little. That said, the food made the trip worth it. Taipei Express is one of those dependable local spots that always comes through when you need a solid meal without spending a fortune. Life is too short to not eat well. Get out there and eat your way through Charlotte.

It was our first visit and we wanted to try the curry. We ordered the Thai Red Curry and the Thai Green Curry. Both were perfection! The red curry had just the right amount of spice to give it flavor, but not be too spicy hot. The green was mild, but flavorful. The dumplings were so good. These were both very good and we added shrimp and chicken. I believe they would be just a satisfying with only the vegetables. This is my go to place for Asian noodle dishes from now on...can't wait to sample more of the menu on my next visit.

They genuinely did not taste like chicken at all, and I couldn't even finish them. I strongly recommend staying away from that item. I also tried to order a bubble tea without ice and was told I'd be charged an extra $2 because they would need to "add more juice." I didn't ask for extra juice, just no ice!!! And charging extra for that feels unreasonable and borderline price gouging. Ridiculous!!!! Between the poor food quality and the frustrating service, the overall experience wasn't great, and I won't be returning.
