My nephew and I were on the prowl for a quick bite to eat uptown and settled on Soho Bistro. It's a small, quaint restaurant across the street from Mert's. My nephew ordered the pan-seared pork dumplings appetizer for us, a dish we've tried several times elsewhere. I wasn't a fan because of their super thick breading, but my nephew enjoyed them. After trying the dumplings, I didn't have the highest hopes for my entree. To my delight, the sesame shrimp was delicious. My nephew ordered the spicy curry shrimp, a dish he's had several times before at other establishments. He described it as a scorching-hot, mouth-numbing spicy, so I took a bite. The bite initially seemed innocent enough, but as the flavors unfolded, a gradual heat began to build and the discomfort grew, reaching a point where it became difficult to focus on anything else. Cold water didn't help with that level of spice. We joked about how someone must've inadvertently poured an unruly amount of spicy seasoning into the dish, but didn't start over. Although the spiciness level was too high for normal consumption, the flavors were amazing. I'm sure the dish is excellent when it's served "very spicy" vs. what we received. On another note, every person we encountered while dining was upbeat and personable from the time we entered the establishment until the time we left. Kudos to the entire staff for their service. .

First of all I'd like to say that I have eaten in a vest number of Chinese restaurants throughout my 68 years on this earth. With that being said, I would like to say this: I was greeted by the nicest people you could imagine; it was my first time there and I felt like family! My waitress seated me by the window so I could look outside. I was then given spotless utensils wrapped in a beautiful, freshly laundered green cloth napkin and a clean lunch menu. The waitress theasked me if I would like something to drink; I told her water would be fine and she promptly brought my water and then gave me a few minutes to look over the menu.

So, I learned that due to yesterday's storm, we now have a water outage in my communitiy and figured, since there will be no cooking tonight, I'd pick up dinner from one of my pre-Covid go-to spots. So, Soho... I get that it's late in the day, I get that these may be leftover from the lunch rush, and I get that this is a take out order. What I don't get is how you would think it is fine to serve stale, dry, flaviorless, barely edible food to your customers. End of day, you are not saving money, you are losing loyal customers to all the many new businesses popping up all over Uptown Charlotte and the surrounding area. Tsk...

Was passing by Charlotte right at lunch so decided to stop in uptown and try something unfamiliar.

Food was good. We came for lunch so there were specials that ran between $9.25.$9.95 including choice of rice and a spring roll. I ordered the Kung Pao and the portion was pretty large, my recommendation to the restaurant is to cut down on the lunch portion size (saves you money) and add the drink to the lunch menu. If you like more "pow" with your King Pao then ask to have it made a little hotter. I forgot to ask so mine was very mild. Overall great food and great service.

Do yourself a favor when you are in Charlotte - go have lunch or dinner here. It is a fantastic gem tucked in the uptown area ( a little hard to find right now due to construction in the surrounding streets at the time of our visit) - entrance to restaurant is on N. College). We did street parking a block away and walked. They have a lunch menu that includes every favorite dish of mine so it made it hard to choose what to try. I love ahi tuna but many places don't truly season/sear it well so I feel that, for me, that's a great dish to try at a new place as a way of judging the food. Here, they do it right I had the ahi tuna salad appetizer. I also ordered house special fried rice - it was not only delicious, but the portion size was huge! Enough for at least two meals. We stopped in for lunch at 11:30 and we literally just beat their lunchtime rush, which filled nearly every table in the restaurant. But even with the lunchtime rush and crowd, this place is still pumping out delicious food efficiently so you can definitely get there for a noon lunch and be back at your desk in time for the afternoon work day! The service was fantastic every though they got busy with the lunch time crowd. Our drinks didn't run dry which is a big bonus star in my book. Give them a try - I bet you'll love it

After checking in to our hotel across the street we wandered over to Soho House for a bite to eat. I noticed they had a beef noodle soup which is one of my favorite things ever at the Mandarin Deli back home. There was also a Hong Kong Beef Noodle soup which apparently had a beef that was marinated but we were also told it was less tender. We both ordered the regular beef noodle soup - one with egg noodles and one with rice noodles and then an egg roll for each of us. While we waited we were brought a plate of won ton chips which neither of us had had in a long time. They were served with a sweet and sour sauce. Shortly after that our egg rolls came out, hot and crispy. The soup came out about 5 minutes later. It was not what I was expecting but it was good. The beef noodle soups I am used to are pretty simple - beef, thick noodles and an insanely flavorful broth. This had a good amount of beef, thin noodles and a lot of veggies - broccoli, carrot, snow peas, zucchini and green onion... might have had some sprouts too. All stuff we like so it hit the spot. The oddest part of the meal were the fortune cookies which are apparently sponsored by a Manscaping company. The "fortunes" are definitely geared toward men. I thought it was a weird choice. Where are my lucky numbers??

Dropped in for dinner. The place was empty but business picked up through the night. We were quickly seated and drink orders were taken. My family ordered the Cantonese Rice Noodles, a side of Broccoli in Garlic sauce, Hot and Sour soup and Mongolian Beef. We had others in the group and I didn't get the names of all their dishes but no one had complaints about their food choice. I sampled the beef in the Mongolian Beef and it was good. My side of Broccoli with Garlic Sauce had great crunch so it was steamed well. The Cantonese Noddles weren't spicy at all even though the menu indicates it is spicy. The restaurant isn't very big but was able to seat my large party of 9. We were seated close to the kitchen and every time the door opened we got a big fish of air. Our server also let us know that if you park in the Hearst Tower deck they validate for free. Also the physical address on Yelp states that the restaurant is on N. Tyron while the door is on College street. My friends Uber dropped them off on N. Tryon and they had to walk to the restaurant. Quick, convenient Chinese food in the heart of downtown Charlotte at a reasonable price. Yelpers give this place a 3.5 star rating and that is about right on the money. We stopped in on a Sunday afternoon after having a craving for some Chinese food. The inside lighting is a bit dim, but we were seated quickly and the service was prompt. They have a lunch menu with a variety of options, with most entrees under $10. We ended up going with the General Tao Chicken and Chicken Lo Mein. Each entree was pretty good and we were able to take some leftovers home to have for later. Overall, this place serves up the traditional Chinese favorites just as expected and at a reasonable price. If you're looking for quick, sit down meal or a convenient take-out option this place is worth checking out.

These were both very good and we added shrimp and chicken. I believe they would be just a satisfying with only the vegetables. They genuinely did not taste like chicken at all, and I couldn't even finish them. I strongly recommend staying away from that item. I also tried to order a bubble tea without ice and was told I'd be charged an extra $2 because they would need to "add more juice." I didn't ask for extra juice, just no ice!!! And charging extra for that feels unreasonable and borderline price gouging. Ridiculous!!!! Between the poor food quality and the frustrating service, the overall experience wasn't great, and I won't be returning.

The prices are very reasonable for the quality of food served! I have eaten here many times and I have tried virtually everything on the menu. With that said, here is my take on it. Everything that I have tried has been delicious! For cold appetizers, I am a big fan of the Black Fungus W. Vinegar Sauce, Cold Spicy Sour Cucumber and the Spicy Beef Tendon. For hot appetizers, everyone raves about the Popcorn Chicken and I concur that it's very good! I really like the Frled Pork Gyoza too. For the main course, they have some rice dishes, but the main focus is the hot pot soups. They bring out a 300°F Stone bowl of broth (in an insulated pot holder) and the ingredients to put in it. You put the meat and lettuce in first, then the other ingredients and the noodles last then wait for "10 seconds"thus the name of the restaurant. I have tried all of the broths and they are all good depending on your tastes. The original broth is the bass broth. Then they add things to the other others to differentiate them. My favorites are the Tomato Soup (especially with Beef Flank) and Spicy Soup. If you like things VERY spicy, they can bring you some cut Thai peppers. The wait staff are patient are very helpful in guiding patrons. They understand that this is a new experience for them. They also pay attention to their customers eating habits. One time when I went in, they noticed that I added lots of chili peppers and chili oil to my food. That's when she said she could bring me some very hot fresh chili peppers. Charlotte is truly blessed to have so many great authentic Chinese body shops popping up all over town! I highly recommend this place! Cheers!

I don't usually like eggs in my ramen (because they are never cooked enough), but Menya cooked theirs perfectly soft boiled, and I loved the flavor the egg added to the soup. Both soups had complex flavors, and we loved them. The tofu was great--thinly sliced and flavorful, if a bit salty--but I am not sure I'd need it again. My husband thought his soup was perfectly spicy. A note about parking - if you can park in the lot in front of the building, you scan a QR code, and open a parking time block. (I believe Menya paid for a 2-hour block.) You then enter the information on an iPad at the back of the restaurant to validate your parking and start the clock. It was easier than I expected, and I'd definitely use this parking service again. I was in one of those "I need noodles immediately" moods, and Sun's Kitchen did not disappoint. I called my order in for takeout, and everything was packed perfectly. No leaks, no mess, still hot when I got home, and the portion was surprisingly generous for the price. The dan dan noodles here are rich, savory, a little spicy, and incredibly comforting. If you're not familiar with them, dan dan noodles are a classic Sichuan street food dish from Chengdu traditionally tossed in a spicy, numbing ma-la sauce with pork, scallions, and pickled vegetables. Sun's Kitchen does a really delicious version that's flavorful without feeling too heavy. The noodles have that perfect chewy texture, and every bite has just enough heat to keep you going back for more. If you're someone who's curious about ethnic food but maybe unsure where to start, this is honestly a great entry-level dish. Yes, there's a little spice, but it's approachable and balanced. The dining room itself is modern and beautiful, and now that they serve beer and wine, I definitely need to come back and enjoy a full dine-in experience instead of rushing home with takeout. The only caveat is the parking lot can get a little chaotic since it's shared with neighboring businesses, especially during busy hours. But trust me, it's worth circling for a spot. Charlotte, there's a big wide world of food out there, and places like Sun's Kitchen make exploring it easy and delicious. Get out there and eat your way through it.
