As a New Yorker, I am aware of my pickiness when it comes to things like Chinese, bagels, pizza. I've been living in Charlotte for 6 years now and have tried plenty of the places I hoped would live up to my northern standards... All that being said.... I still don't have a "perfect" pizza place, bagel, or Chinese spot. I'm raving about Ho Ho Cherry House because it's exactly what it needs to be. I wanted Singapore noodles and a bunch of random soups and apps. I got all of that via delivery (so props to the apps) but my food was SCORCHING hot, fresh, and delicious. Everything was packed neatly and I was given plenty of extra sauces, fortune cookies, utensils, and the like. I've begun to realize I will forever be let down if I keep comparing everything I try to what I was used to back home. Ho Ho Cherry House fits the bill of your classic Chinese delivery/take out spot. They offer all of the favorites like sesame chicken, egg rolls, fried rice and more. Their prices are reasonable and they've been around for a while, so I decided to finally give them a shot one night when I was craving some food. I saw that they also serve wings and had a special for 6 wings and beef fried rice for only $11.95! Talk about a deal! I placed my order through door dash and the food was delivered promptly. I really enjoyed the beef fried rice and found the portion to be generous. The wings I probably would pass on in the future. They were really dry and didn't have much flavor. I was enticed by the deal but going forward I will stick to the more traditional dishes. I recommend! Quick service, called my order in within 10mins my order was hot and ready. The food was good basic chinese food. I ordered the fried chicken wings and vegetable fried rice. The fried chicken wings are fried good with basic seasoning. Now the vegetable fried rice I found very interesting, which had onions, sprouts egg, and broccoli bits. Which was different from a typical vegetable fried rice that I've had before, but it was good and fresh. I ordered a small egg drop soup, which was hot and delicious! For Chinese takeout I thought this place was good! My general tso's chicken was delicious. Rice and soup were also great. I wasn't the biggest fan of the dumplings or the Rangoons, but everything else was really good! Will definitely come back when in the mood for Chinese takeout again. read more

Almost inedible. There is some specific spice / herb they are being heavy handed with that is not standard for Chinese food (certainly not traditional take-out style items). The noodles are almost gummy, absolutely no texture or flavor. I got the Chicken & Broccoli with a side of Lo Mein, as well as an order of the Cold Noodles with Sesame Sauce (a personal favorite I haven't been able to find on menus outside of NY! Was excited). The specific spice flavor i mentioned was consistent across all of these items. I've had plenty of Chinese takeout in my life and never experienced this flavor before (can't put my finger on it as it's so out of place???). The texture of the chicken & broccoli was fine, but unfortunately the sauce ruined it for me. Noodles were really bad all around. Only things I enjoyed were Egg drop soup (pretty simple) and their vegetable spring roll. Disappointed as this place was highly recommended to me by 2 different people. This is the worst restaurant in Charlotte! They messed up my father's order. I had to drive 30 minutes back to the restaurant to get it fixed because my Dad had a stroke and can't drive. When we arrived they were rude, disrespectful, and dismissive. They refused to fix the entire order which was now cold and soggy because they claimed that they only needed to fix what they got wrong. They ruined our dinner and wasted our gas. They never apologized for their error. Do not eat here! The people that work there are nasty and their customer service is horrible. Save your money and eat at another establishment. I used to be a frequent customer. My family and I will never eat here again. We plan to tell others about our experience so they don't eat here either. Go elsewhere! You won't regret it. read more

We have ordered from hoho cherry many times for carry out. i!would rate at 3.5 if that was option. It's decent chinese at value price. All your favorites. I enjoy kung pao chic; sweet and sour chic, mongolian beef; general xhos chic. Lunch specials are particularly good value including a spring roll. We've been going for 6 years --but i've noticed that the vegetables that are part of the dish are very little, example kung pao chic only had like 2 broccoli florets. Fried rice was not as good as other restaurants-hardly any vegetables included --in fact i think two of our portions had only 2 peas --you couldn't find any onion, carrot, etc. Seemed like rice wasn't really a fried rice -just white rice with soy coloring --no flavor. My expectation was more visible chunks of veggies and a little crunch in the rice via wok frying. My only comment is that the quality hasn't been as good over the last couple years. Service is good and there is certainly a lot of take out -but i wish they'd go back to former quality. Portion is substantial (lunch same as dinner) and certainly enough to have leftovers. read more

So, my last review was in 2013 and was via delivery. So, after moving in the area and trying it recently Ho Ho Cherry House definitely deserved an update. I ordered Wonton Soup, Shrimp Fried Rice and their Happy Family (I think that is the name) which includes, steak, chicken and shrimp with mixed vegetables in a brown sauce. The Wonton Soup, no flavor, very disappointing. The rice was good, but like the soup the Happy Family had no flavor. The sauce was watered down, the veggies were cooked but the proteins were chewy and the shrimp wasn't cleaned properly. I love Chinese food, and so wanted to like it more being that I can walk to this location, but most likely will drive a little further for the other places that offer better food. read more

Your average hole in the wall Chinese food. Decided to order Chinese on DoorDash and came across this restaurant so I decided to try them out! You get what you pay for and you can't beat the price. I always get general tso chicken. It was crispy and hot when I received it. Some other Chinese places only have the chicken for the entree but here the broccoli is an added bonus that others don't include. You receive an egg roll that is smaller than your usual Chinese food places. Overall, the portion of the chicken and broccoli is bigger than your portion of rice. The boyfriend and I found ourselves in CLT on a Saturday afternoon and wanted something to eat! We were already at Pet Supplies Plus and figured, why not just eat at the Ho Ho Cherry House next door? The name of this place piqued our curiosity and we decided to take a look inside. Very clean interior, oriental themed of course. We were greeted immediately upon entry and our orders were promptly taken. We were the only ones in the restaurant at one o'clock on a Saturday, which is a shame! I appreciated the fact that I was offered the lunch special, even though she could've just given me the more expensive plate and I wouldn't have known the difference. I ordered the General Tso Chicken, Fried Rice, and Eggroll and boyfriend ordered the 6-Wing special with Pork Fried Rice. Cherry House has had consistently decent food each time I have ordered take out. Last night I was craving Chinese and decided to get doordash from here because it was free delivery over a certain dollar amount. I orderes a few things and was happily eating in about 30 minutes! Crab rangoons are always a good choice if you enjoy fried goodness. The crab dip on the inside is on the sweeter side, but hits the spot. The veggie egg roll was a little over cooked, but still tasted like it should dipped in sweet and sour sauce. For my main, I ordered the garlic spicy chicken with fried rice. The sauce wasn't that spicy and mixed well with the friend rice. The chicken was a little chewy with some pieces, but overall decent. I plan on trying a few other dishes from here and recommend sticking with your go to Chinese food choices to see how you like it! read more

I'm guessing we get takeout from Ho Ho Cherry House 3 times a month. Our go-to? Sesame tofu Vegetable fried rice Sa cha tofu Steamed broccoli Flavors and textures are dead on. The vegetable fried rice is REALLY good. Something about the way they cook the onion stands out (in a good way). We never eat all of the sides of white rice, so we save it and end up using leftovers to make our own fried rice later in the week. This was my favorite Chinese place but they are never consistent anymore. I guess due to increases in Doordash orders and the pandemic in general it just seems like they no longer care. Sometimes the general chicken is way too spicy, to the point you can hardly eat it. I know this is a spicy dish but we used to get it and there was no problem. Now I have to say mild. Sometimes the sauce in the sesame chicken is kind of watery, which is weird. The egg rolls or the Crab Rangoon may be over fried, or they are using old grease. It's always one or the other. I took a break from them for a while and then went back tonight. When they are good they are soo good, and I missed their sesame chicken. The sesame and general chicken we got tonight were good, along with the crab Rangoon. But of course these are the worst I've ever seen the egg rolls. Unfortunately Ho Ho just hasn't kept up the food and service it used to have. The most recent trip was for lunch. The first call resulted in the person hanging up on me. Upon calling back, I placed my order and picked it up about 15 minutes later. The portions are still large for the price, but the quality of the chicken was tough and stringy compared to Taipei Express. It was also sitting in half an inch of watery oil. I think my Chinese takeout business may be headed elsewhere. :-( read more
