I genuinely enjoy Lam's Kitchen. It's one of those places I'm willing to drive out of my way from Uptown to Matthews for--and it's worth the trip every time. As a Bay Area foodie, I'm always searching for Chinese food that gives me that same feeling I get in San Francisco or Houston's Chinatown. Lam's comes close. The ingredients taste fresh, everything is made to order, the proteins are tender, and the flavors have depth without being heavy or overdone. This visit, I ordered the scallion beef, and it was excellent--tender beef, plenty of scallions and onions, and beautifully seasoned. I asked for something spicy on the side, thinking sambal or hot chili sauce, and they brought me chili crisp. Perfect. And yes, I know sweet and sour pork can sound cliché, but theirs deserves some respect. It's made with cubes of tender pork, bell peppers and pineapple, and the sauce isn't cloyingly sweet. The quality of the pork makes the dish. I'm already looking forward to the leftovers. Other favorites include the string beans with ground pork and the beef with broccoli. Both are stellar. They also have an extensive dim sum menu. It's ordered from the menu rather than served from carts, which means there's plenty more for me to work my way through. There's something comforting about eating here. Seeing families gathered around the tables enjoying Chinese food sometimes makes me a little homesick for meals out with my mom. Food has a funny way of doing that. The restaurant itself is clean, comfortable and nicely air-conditioned, with a large live seafood/lobster tank. Service is friendly and fast. Portions are generous, prices are reasonable, and there's an easy parking lot right outside. Lam's Kitchen has earned a permanent spot in my rotation. I'll happily keep making the drive to Matthews and eating my way through the menu. Life is too short not to eat well. Get out there and find your next meal. read more

I was craving dim sum and wanted to try somewhere new, and Lam's came highly recommended by several people. We showed up right at 11:30am on a Sunday when they opened, and were seated right away. Our waitress was on point--super attentive and kept everything flowing smoothly. As for the food? We ordered a lot--and honestly, it felt like a nostalgic feast. So many of the dishes brought back childhood memories of weekends in Chicago's Chinatown. Everything was comforting, flavorful, and just how I remember it. This isn't a fancy spot--just a relaxed, no-frills place that serves really good dim sum with friendly service. It's a bit of a drive for me, but it was 100% worth it. This place has changed significantly since the last time we had visited for lunch. We had ordered the orange chicken with fried rice with wonton soup. The soup was good, but warm (not hot). After that, the experience went straight downhill. Firstly, the chicken was saturated with a honey-sugar glaze that was thick and slimy. It made the chicken uneatable. The broccoli was cold, as if chilled in the refridgerator before being served. Nobody like broccoli cold as ice. Lastly, we had ordered the fried rice. It was nothing like other photos from past reviews. It looked like plain white rice with a fried egg mixed in. It was bland and tasteless. Service was impersonal and lacked any eye contact. In fact, when the server was handing me the bill, she was literally looking across the room while aimlessly reaching out her arm with the bill. The food is sub-standard and is not like it once was. Went there with the wife the other night and ordered up a couple of dishes; whole fish steamed with chili, fried intestine, mayo tofu, soft shell crab and spicy wonton. With me describing the taste, texture, presentation, it does not do it any justice. Need to go and taste it for yourself, you will thank me later. We got there and there were no tables available yet so we sat at the bar and when one was available we got moved over and then our wonderful dinner experience began. It was my idea to go to Lam's kitchen. I told the waiter after waiting for 15 minutes to be served that I wanted fried lobster which is called (Hong Kong style) for those of you that want it. Do not order any other style. Even when I ordered the wrong style I tried to eat it. I refused to eat it because it taste like rubber. I ordered an appetizer that I never received. I normally get the soup which I should have gotten because their soup is generally good. The ragoons we ordered were undercooked. I'm not paying for poor quality food. This was supposed to my Valentine's lunch. The cook must have been off. read more

I went to Lam's for the 1st time for take out at lunch time. The ladies at the front were warm and pleasant. We ordered the shrimp fried rice, the boneless spareribs, stir fried green beans and the Singapore noodles. The boneless spareribs were good moist and not dry. THIS is the place for Dim Sum! It's not in Charlotte but easy access in Matthews. They have all your favorites: Char Siu Bao Shu Mai Har Gow and all the dumplings. The service is outstanding, the food quality is exceptional and the location is great as well. You won't see the 'rolling carts' in the traditional Cantonese style but you order off what looks like a 'sushi' menu. They also have several large rooms with big round tables for your 'private' events. A nice covered patio with lots of outside tables when the weather suits. We go here quite frequently, but I could never understand their process for making food. As it is always, last night, our orders for our party of five trickled out one or two at a time over the course of about 45 minutes. One friend ordered a bowl of fried rice and that was the last to come out. 45 minutes after the first two people's dinners came out. By then, everybody was finished eating . We had a Feast of the Gods last Saturday! I've been looking for a good Chinese restaurant for a long time and I have finally found Lee's Kitchen! I went with my family and we were in a mood for good food and we got great food instead. The service was good and there was no empty tables for the whole time we were there. They have live seafood for you to choose and the kids were having fun watching the tanks. I loved that they were family style and all plates were well served. We all could not stop eating and we ordered a lot. The restaurant is nicely decorated and it also has private rooms that you can reserve for big parties. We are coming back because they have a long menu and we need to try more of their delicious dishes. Oh! They also have Dim Sum!!! This might be my favorite find of 2025 so far! Tucked away in a shopping center in Matthews, NC, you'll find Lam's Kitchen, a charming traditional Chinese restaurant. The decor is warm and casual, and what immediately stands out is the large lobster tanks! That's right lobster is on the menu here. In fact the menu is quite large. From Chinese barbecue, to delicious meals from Malaysia cooked in clay pots, they have a large variety of flavors and dishes depending what you are in the mood for. On my first visit, I elected to start with some pan fried dumplings, and for my meal I went with the kung pow chicken. The service was a little slow but they were very busy so it was nothing out of the ordinary. The portions were huge! The chicken was savory and spiced to perfection, and while I was quickly filling up, the food was so delicious I couldn't put the fork down. I will for sure be back here to explore the menu some more, and I will be singing their praises to all my friends. Lam's showed up on a 'top restaurants in Charlotte' list that my girlfriend found, so we decided to try it. The Dim Sum was the highlight, so we went there... but didn't get the Dim Sum menu. There were only 2 types of dumplings on the menu, which we ordered, but they weren't what we saw on the list. So, we also ordered sesame chicken, the beef with scallions, and crab rangoons. Everything was fine - the food was good, the service was pretty good, and everything came out fast. Later, we looked at their menus on the website and realize we weren't given the one we actually came for (we didn't ask either), so it was a little bit of a let down. One of our favorite Chinese restaurants to go too. Their food is authentic Chinese food with Dim Sum served daily. They have some of the best most plump and juicy spicy wonton ever. Their pan fried dumplings is crispy yet still juicy and moist. I'm not really a green bean person boy but let me tell you their stir fried green beans was amazing. It was crispy and stirred in a light brown sauce with mined meat. Amazing dish! Also the Lobster is cooked really well with very good flavor! Honestly we had a lot there and everything was amazing as usual. We didn't have dim sum that as too me 8-12 dollars for each dim sum plate was pretty expensive. Went here on Easter Sunday and they had a line out the door at opening time. This restaurant is insanely busy so I highly recommend making reservations in advance. They have a full bar and a private room for bigger parties that require a $100 deposit and spending a minimum of $400. Our waitress was the sweetest lady and provided us with the best service. This place is utterly amazing! Years ago, I used to be able to get authentic Chinese food by going to certain Chinese restaurants and asking for the real Chinese menu. Many of the Chinese restaurants in Charlotte at that time actually had two menus. The Americanized Chinese menu and the real one. No need for that here! All of the food is authentic! I don't think you can go wrong with anything you order as long as you are seeking authentic Chinese food and not Chinese food that has been modified for Western palates. We had the Szechuan Dumplings, Hot & Sour Soup, Cumin Lamb and Broccoli Triple Delight. All of them were simply delicious. This was the worst restaurant experience I've ever had. We were celebrating my daughter's graduation and had a party of 8. We called ahead and made a reservation. We were seated and had to ask for dim sum menus; half the items on that menu were not available. Then the appetizers were all served at different times, but we shared things and made it work. Our meals all arrived at different times, as much as 30 minutes apart from each other. We made sure to let the server know that we were NOT eating family style and were NOT sharing our meals so that everything would arrive somewhat close to each other. Everyone had finished their meals and three of us still had not received their food. We asked our server about this and soon two more meals arrived but I was still left without a meal. After the other two people finished eating AND packed their leftovers one of the servers popped into the room where our table was, kind of pointed at the table then quickly left. About 10 minutes later she brought my food. At this point we had been there for over an hour and were ready to leave so I asked her to pack my meal to go. Instead she brought me a small box. I again asked her to pack the food and asked to speak to the manager. About 5 minutes later one of the assistant servers came to the table stating the manager was too busy to address our concerns and she would answer our questions. When I voiced my dissatisfaction with not being served for so long she stated that my meal takes a long time us notoriously comes out late. I ORDERED A RICE NOODLES WITH SHRIMP meal which both take no longer than 10 minutes to cook from start to finish. My daughter received her piping hot lamb stew first! There was no apology, no offer of removing charges and I was charged a mandatory 20% tip despite the poor service. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. read more
