Note: This is a sibling winery to Rubino (see my other review for them if interested). Both wineries complement each other very well, having a lot of the same good qualities while also being different enough to have a cool original experience. The inside is very similar in that it has a nice Italian American feel. High ceilings, home-ish vibe, huge inviting counter space, and some space for a little table with friends. They also have a little deli area for snacks. The wines are bold, varied, and well priced. They tastings are a steal at $15 for 7. I enjoyed a few so much I took a couple bottles home. $15-$20 for some solid choices. The service was fantastic. Super friendly, took time to answer a few questions I had about the wine. This place is currently treating their customers poorly. We had an 11 am appointment and came on time. They told us they were still close as we walked in. We had to mention we had an appointment and they acted as if we are bothering them as they asked out appointment name. We have been a member for years. We asked if after covid we still could bring food in and they said no. Which is fine. The staff who said no food then told our group the birthday cake we are bringing is allowed but she saw out group bringing a big bag. This is not her business what purse we are bringing. Pre arrival we checked their site and no regulations regarding the size of purse we are bringing. The customer service of this place is not appropriate and they should have better treatments to customers. We are cancelling our subscription. read more

I'm not usually a fan of Red Wine's, which Ruby Hill has a lot of (The name ''Ruby'' being a bit of a giveaway) but they Peacock Patch Reserve 2012 Zinfandel is crazy good. Paired with Bison Bolognese or a lightly spiced Filet it's a winner. $26 a bottle it's a very reasonable price too. The grounds are lovely with a small deli counter inside where you can purchase various Cheeses and Meats to pair with the Wine. There is some seating inside but if you are a member you also get the use of the private back patio (Oh, we fancy!). A friend of mine has that membership which comes in very useful when you spend 4+ hours here. The staff are really nice too and I swear give extra pours to members! Flights are $7.50-$15.00 each and they also have a cute little boutique with Jewelry and apparel and even cooking sauces to take home. read more

Ruby Hill is such a friendly winery. I remember the days when we were tasting indoors and the lovely people there would chat to my son about everything under the sun and treat him to chocolates. When I took my friend who was visiting from overseas, they gave her such special treatment because it was her first ever wine tasting. She enjoyed her experience so much that she posted her pic at Ruby Hill as her pic of the year. This quintessentially Californian winery has some good good wines, special mention for the Jewel Collection Chardonnay and Zinfandel. The setting, like so many wineries in Livermore is picturesque. The casa with the tasting room is is very chic and classy. Plenty of outdoor tasting area in the spacious corridors and patio. They continue their friendly service in covid times as well. I'd like to leave my review as a gesture of gratitude to the employees and to this beautiful stablishment. We were late to our 1pm tasting reservation. They accommodated us without question. I don't know much about wines and stuff like that. But their wines were quite delicious. The manager approached us and thanked us for visiting the winery. The employees all seem laid back. Some other winery (some I've been to in Napa) personnel make you feel like you don't know anything about wines and that you shouldn't be there. We enjoyed the afternoon there and ended up becoming members to support these local businesses that put a lot of effort into bringing us good wine and good moments. Kids are allowed to visit, too, which makes it a go-to winery in our case. They have a small deli, which you can purchase cheeses and those things to munch on while you chew wine. The prices on their wines are very reasonable, as well as the $25 tasting fee. I will bring my friends and family now that I am a member. Please visit and support our Bay Area wineries. read more

On a whim, came here for a wine tasting with a friend who had been here before. It was packed on a Saturday, being the day after Valentines Day and part of a 3 day weekend. We barely were able to sneak in a spot as there were so many people doing tastings. They had 4 tasting options ranging from $5 to $7.50. We went with the reserve at $7.50 that included 8 tastings starting with bubbly! Quite a steal, although the pours are a bit small. I do like how the room is spacious with lots of little knick knack things to buy as well as a deli to purchase snack items to enjoy while you drink. Ended up purchasing 2 bottles which took off one tasting fee (not 2 like I had thought). read more

We received a coupon for a free tasting here because we joined the wine club at Ruby Hill's sister winery a few weeks ago. Upon beginning to taste on the normal side of the tasting menu, we were a bit skeptical. It was good, but not outstanding. We paid for the upgraded tasting of the Jewel series and wow, what a difference. Really good wine. So much so that we decided to join the club here as well. That opened up a few more club wines to try which were great as well. In the end, we walked out with four bottles and a club membership to the second winery within two miles on Vineyard Ave. Thankfully, since they are sister wineries they stagger their release parties and other events so that if you are a member of both you can enjoy the events of both. The club members' area at Ruby Hill is one of the best that I've seen. There's an indoor tasting area just for members and as well a walled-off patio outside to enjoy your purchases. It has good sun protection and privacy from the parking lot is good as well. It is a great place to sit peacefully and drink some wine and stare at the hills. read more

Came here for mother's day with my in-laws & it was in such a calming location. We sat indoors for a while drinking the flights of wine. You all have to take the tour bus. Very nice place, beautiful views and the wine is great. We took the tour bus tasting experience and we loved it. Everyone was so sweet and helpful. U feel like you are spending a day in heaven. Bill was our tour guide and he was great. I kinda don't remember the end of the tour very well but the pictures suggest that we had a great time. AVOID!!! Not Surprised seeing the bad reviews mounting for the winery. There has been a steep decline in their service in the last year. Just yesterday the team there did not even care to come in and check if we got served our order for tasting. On top of that the manager yesterday was very rude. She needs to go for some training. My husband and I went here to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We called ahead to reserve a spot and we got a nice cozy corner in their patio. We tasted 2 different flights and they were both very tasty. We bought two of their wines. During covid times they are being careful, all employees had worn masks, tables were placed far from each other. Let me start off by saying my family has been members here and we have had the most amazing experience up until this last time. I use to love this place and honestly thought about becoming a member even though I don't even live in Northern California. The service use to be amazing, But it has gone so down hill. Our particular waiter kicked us off our table twice because it was "full". And apparently full means having 5 parties at 1 time when there's 30+ open tables. I honestly felt discriminated against as I saw no other parties having to move tables as well. This is so unfortunate and I really wish this place would do better. Over the past decade, Ruby Hill has become a staple in my life and the lives of friends! In Vino Veritas, and Ruby Hill has dished up truth to me in many ways for many years. I first came to Ruby Hill nearly 10 years ago, when a date treating me to a day of wine tasting worked Ruby Hill into our day, and I loved it! Their wine was wonderful, and the atmosphere was successful but also welcoming - so few wineries maintain that balance between growing large and successful and still feeling like a cozy small business. I left that day with a bottle of their sparkling wine and have had so many bottles since! I insisted friends join me to check it out a few weeks later, and two of them joined the wine club! Over the years that followed I've gone to parties here, taken their amazing Mello Cielo bus tour for a birthday party, and joined my club member friends for dozens of tastings, both at the member bar and back in the barrel room. They treat their club members so well, and are always welcoming to guests! Along with their killer sparkling wine to kick off your tasting, make sure to try anything reserve that you can - their Cielo Viola, Intesa, Pinot Noir and Peacock Patch are all stellar! On my last visit I tried their latest blend, Fruition, and it is fabulous, totally drinklable on its own or would be excellent paired up with a plate of pasta. I also love their Grapeful Red and Grapeful White, both with lower price points that make a great table wine or for casual sharing. They really do have something for everyone. The tasting room also offers a small deli - choose a few cheeses to accompany your tasting! I can't say enough good things about Ruby Hill, I always look forward to a visit! So it looks we were not the only ones that were feeling discriminated. As soon as we walked on, the mood felt off. We just came from Rubino and they treated us with so much respect. As soon as we were seated, they took a while to come over to assist us. They helped a large party that came after us first. Once they finally helped us they rarely came by to check in. All they did was tell us that the most economical option was to get bottles instead of flights. Which our party actually wanted to do the flights. But to be honest they left such a bad taste in my mouth that I didn't even get a bottle or flight, (I purchased 2 at the previous winery to go) because I didn't feel they deserved my business. Yes I did give them feedback before I left. I'm not sure if it's because most of us were latinas, but I didn't appreciate the way we were treated. They even interrupted while we tried to sing happy birthday to my sister in law even tho we were not going to cut the cake and hand it out (I have it on video) I don't recommend this winery. No thank you. Haven't had to write a bad review in a long time. But I feel like others should know. Please work on your customer service skills if you want returning customers. read more

Wow! That's all I have to say. When we got there the hostess wanted nothing to do with us. When we were sat our "hostesses"/waitress continued to act like we were worthless. We are from Michigan and all we have heard since we have been in California is how amazing and nice Californians are. And as true as that might be the manager and staff at Ruby Hill Winery are not. We arrived at Ruby Hill a little over an hour before they closed and were not immediately sat after being told "wait a minute". Our "hostesses" who sat us ended up being our waitress and continued to not to care at all about us. The entire time she made us feel as if we were a worthless inconvenience. We ordered our flights after being sat for several minutes and made to feel bad about using the restroom. Then continued to get cheese and meats and crackers. All of which were sadly very good. And I say sadly because I wish I could have hated every part of this winery do to the incredibly horrendous service we received. As we drew closer to closing the server came to remind us of closing and close out our bill and clearly stated "but don't worry you can have a grace period to finish up." We were nearly finished with our wines and cheeses at this point and all but 1 glass and plate had been taken. Not but a few minute later the server came up and told us we needed to leave NOW. Even though there were plenty of other people finishing up without being told to leave very rudely. The biggest thing is our server acted as if we didn't matter from the moment we walked in. After we left we called to speak to the manager and after explaining the situation we were basically told "too bad". My final thought is when deciding on a winery to visit in the Livermore area. Decide anywhere but Ruby Hill. Unless, you like to be treated like your a second class citizen. read more

The Wines here are very good. It was crowded and I noises when we went on Saturday. There were a lot of people in there. It was a great atmosphere to meet new people and network, and do some wine tasting. I recommend that you purchase one of their wine Ports with the chocolate tasting cups it is delicious. I have recently broken my leg, so my sister asked of the server, is there somewhere we can sit for our tasting. Yes, there are seats outside was the reply. We were brought our first tasting. I hobbled in to ask a question and was told by the same person we had to come inside to get our tastings. We were told we had to pay up front for our tasting. I gave my card and told her to hold it open and run a tab, nope, we must look untrustworthy and she came out with a paid receipt. They wines were vividly unremarkable... The server came out several times and looked at us, but never offered a drink or any service. Ruby Hill is an amazing winery with great staff! I have been here on multiple occasions with friends for tastings and my birthday. I set up reservations for one of the private rooms on my birthday and it was really nice. We had our own sommelier as well as snacks and water set up. I wish I was able to choose the wines we got to taste instead of a set list, but other than that it was good. They have a big selections of wines to taste from reds to whites, I'm more of a whites person so I like that they have a lot of those to choose from. The tasting includes 7 wines at $15 and is waived with the purchase of 2 bottles. I will be returning to ruby hill in the future and recommending it to friends for special occasions or just a fun day of wine tasting! read more

I attended a wedding here last Sunday and was it gorgeous. I am in the wedding industry (professional photographer) and was invited as a guest. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The wedding coordinator they have on staff was so pleasant and always willing to help whether it was a guest or the bridal party. My friends and I planned to have our next "Couples Date Night" at Ruby Hill Winery. We had such a pleasant experience the 1st time around and invited another couple to join in on the fun! If you're a member, you can bring up to 3 friends (at anytime) and you all have free tastings of their entire menu which consists of over 20 wines. (1 champagne, whites, and mostly reds) There were 6 of us total so only 4 were covered as free tastings. My fiancé & I planned to sign up for membership anyway so problem solved. Everyone was free AND we got to bring home the latest shipment. We picked a perfect time to join because Ruby Hill is hosting a private event for members on July 15th. I love win-win situations. On Thursday nights they're open until 8:30pm and you can order antipasti & sit at the bistro tables. They even do table service - great for couples or a group of friends. We decided to stay indoors, however, to enjoy their entire tasting menu. They also brought out a tray of cheese & crackers for our party only.
